    3M 90 contact adhesive spray works really good for just about anything on any surface. Nashua Aluminum tape works pretty good as long as you wipe down the panels. We used sheet metal screws and bailing wire (pulled tight) to hold up them up on the ceiling with the tape. All our panels were cut to fit tight inside the ribs at 3' O.C. For the side walls we just used the tape and made the panels to fit tight inside the vertical frame sections as my metal building was 24' X 40' as well.

    I went with sprayed open cell foam. So far it's incredible but it wasn't cheap. I think it was worth it. This looks good! Great video too!

      Unfortunately in our area there isn't many spray foam companies. And as such they charge an exorbitant amount. It was going to cost 50% more than the building cost and had a 6 to 9 month wait. And that was 2020! I would hate to see the cost increase since then.

      @@southernyankeehomestead3230 I know it, my 40x30 cost 6600 to spray and it was discounted because the sprayers put foam under the wires to the switch and sensors of my garage door. Plus they did a shotty job of shaving the excess back. The contractor shaved 600 off the price but it was worth it. There were some contractors that wanted 9k, 10k, one came in at 13k. Then there's the Polyaspartic floor salesman that want to coat the floors for the same type of prices... I could easily transition this convo into how shady, "serial entrepreneurs" are but I'll stop now. :) I haven't had a chance to look for finished videos of this project you've got but I'm sure it's awesome.

      @@keithshapiro 13k would have been on the low end on what they wanted to charge if I could have found more than 1 company that could do it.
      As far as finish video... sorry... haven't finished. It's low on the priority list with the rest of the homestead and of course the baby. I may get to finishing it someday but it's going to be a while.

      @@southernyankeehomestead3230 All good, I'm enjoying some of the other vids too. You are doing things I am looking to add to my endeavors here in South Carolina. Everything grows easily, especially things you don't want but homestead'd foods are making there way into my purview and am learning what I can. Good luck on that building and the rest of it brother!

    Next time strip out the whole garage with 1+2' wood strip's on the side wall's and ceiling 4 ft. apart or as needed depending on the size of your insulation.. First that creates an air barrier. Now sense you have stripped the whole building out there will be very little cutting and fitting..It will go together like blocks. You don't need any glue to hold up the panels Your panels fasten straight to the wood using button cap nails or screws. Also use heating and cool tape like air and heat tech's do on air vents. The building may fall but the tape will still be there. After you have in your wood strips at the start you could insulate the garage in a day easy by yourself just plug and play.

    Hello. Any issues after months and years of use doing it this way? Thanks

    • @southernyankeehomestead3230
      @southernyankeehomestead3230  Месяц назад +1

      @cae2024 the spray adhesive didn't work that well. On the other wall I used double sided sticky tape. The foam kind. This had the added benefit of leaving a small air gap behind the foam. But if I was to do it all over again I would just have a pole barn style put up with metal siding. Easier to work with and will still last longer than me.

    There are very different adhesives for the different types of foam. But I see that good preparation in many areas is not your forte.

      Not sure. I didn't have the building too long before we did the insulation. It's loud in a hard rain but it's not deafening.

    Hey I have the same garage...I'm actually honing to use polyisco foam board with 1 inch gap
    Im in NY state so winter's are cold and summer's hot
    Company recommends to leave air gap which increase r rating for the board with foil facing outwards
    Did you have any condensation issues where sir gap is? That's my only concern

      The last couple days have been like upstate with snow and temps in the lower teens at night. I have witnessed frost on the outside of the building but no moisture inside. But with our southern humidity I run a dehumidifier all the time. So there is no moisture to condense.

    Would I have to worry about condensation if i were to install the foam foiled insulation used here and then install batten to increase insulation on the ceiling? In other words... metal ceiling, then foam/foil reflective insulation under the roof, then the batten under that? And of course have a gap between the foil and the metal ceiling.

    • @southernyankeehomestead3230
      @southernyankeehomestead3230  3 года назад

      I theory yes it would stop condensation but that is only a theory. Each area will have a different temperature and humidity swing. Think of the difference between Minnesota and Florida. Also, are you going to heat and cool the building and if so what form are you going to use? Propane, heat pump, wood, or a fan?
      Initially when the concrete was curing and for a couple weeks after the building condensated badly. That could have been due to the concrete "drying" causing the building air to heat up but not the building itself. Since then I e ran a dehumidifier to get as much moisture out as possible and then it got warm on us in which case we aren't going to get condensation. The insulation has made a big difference so far even though I have yet to fully finish it.

      Side note I thought of on the way home. How are you going to secure the batt insulation to the ceiling? I haven't been too happy with the adhesives on the market so far and the widest batt I've seen is for an 18" opening. If you're going to build a structure inside the structure just for insulation you would probably be better off just building a pole barn.

    I thought the insulation is not supposed to be installed right up against the wall because it needs a gap to allow air flow.

    How do you determine what side to use on the insulation boards?

    • @southernyankeehomestead3230
      @southernyankeehomestead3230  2 года назад +1

      If the insulation has foil on one side that side faces out towards the metal building itself. If it's like the insulation I bought it doesn't matter because it's double sided.
      Ultimately you want the foil to reflect the heat while the insulation itself maintains the internal temperature.
