Idaho - great answer. but she answered through third-person point of view, which made her answer less impactful.

Both Brooke and Miss Idaho gave excellent answers, full of depth and integrity. So, it was fitting that Brooke eventually won Miss Universe and Brandi became Miss USA. Miss Tennesse totally bombed the question.

Brooke won because she was smart, funny, heartwarming, and, most of all, authentic. Her dress at Miss USA was way better than the one she wore at Miss Universe, but she had lots of personality.

The error judges and FANS continue to be guilty of, is judging the answer itself. The vote and judging is to always be the overall performance and impression, which is answers but always the beauty and image. Not the one answer.

I think I would take a good hard look at myself and I'd look from the inside out and I'd know that I was the same girl that was crown that day and it really didn't matter what I look in the outside because I won for what I was in here (referring to her heart). So if I go up I go down, I get taller I get shorter my nose is bigger smaller I'm still who I was when the crown was on my head and I am a good representative no matter what. --nice answer

A lot of people think that Brook Lee won Miss Universe by luck. Look at her in this Miss USA 1997 Final Question round. She did wonderful.
during Miss Universe 1997, her final question that was asked to her was really unconventional "If there were no rules in your life for one day, where you could be outrageous what would you do?"
The question is not really pageanty, isn't it? So it requires pure honest answer. I would answered the same way she did back then and the crowd went wild. But again some people think she won by luck. Which isn't.
I agree with many of you saying that brooke had the best answer in Miss USA history. When you get taller or shorter, fatter or leaner, hair longer or shorter...you need to ask yourself are you still confident and comfortable to be a good representative, if the answer is yes, why does weight bother you?
hawaii gave the best speech composition while idaho is just ok. Tennessee wasn't able to defend herself.
Brooke is very beautiful...even til now, Brooke looks even more beautiful. Seems like she ages beautifully...

Tenesse choked. Brook did amazing even during the top 6 question. The way she answers, you just know she’s a smart girl and she deserved it. This is probably one of the best answer to a beauty pageant question ever.
I love Brook's spontaneity and that's why she won both pageants. But let's give some credit to Idaho, her answer was equally as good. And you know at the end God had a plan, Idaho became Miss USA as well hehe🥰
I'm glad that Brooke won so that Brandy could be Miss USA. She was my pick to win, but I also liked Brooke too. She was very smart and had a gorgeous smile!

Brook Lee spoke honestly and from the heart. She had presence of mind and listen to the way that crowd cheered after she answered.
At the end of the day, I think Miss Universe is the face of a brand. I think she is the modern woman and some of these women are just stunning like Olivia Culpo. But I think what you see a lot of the time is a woman who even if she is not the most striking woman in the room, she is still an attractive woman who dresses well and knows how to use the opportunities she’s been given. So I think she is totally right.

its not ironic! Queen Brook answered those for a reason! She want to gave an impact and clarified things as she had that platform. Her answer to Miss Universe is not a funny thing but a political one! She want to say to the world that this weight problem is not an issue as same with eating a lot! Yes, Idaho has a great answer but she did not answer the question while Hawaii answered it directly and on point. The question is how will you handle it if you are Miss Universe having a weight related issue, it is not asking what is your opinion on Miss Universe who is having weight related issue.

IDAHO-Well I think it's difficult for any woman to handle weight fluctuations,& we all have to deal with that at a certain times in our life.But I feel Ms.U won for a certain reason.I saw the young woman compete, who won.& she was amazing.She had an inner beauty that came through.

You are so right QT and that's exactly my point. You hit the nail on the head. I don't even watch the pageants anymore. I think 1997 was the last one I watched and when they completely eliminated the interview competition, that was it!! Its become nothing but sex and exploitation for women. They used to have beautiful production numbers with the military and I miss the Little Sisters of the Starlight Foundation at Miss Universe. Sad, sad, sad.

Thankfully Brandi eventually did inherit the Miss USA title after Brook won Miss Universe. She became the first woman to have held both the Miss Teen USA and Miss USA titles

Donald Trump actually said that Miss Tenn. gave the best answer and should have won the crown. He said that the judges went with Brooke because she gave the politically correct answer. But he felt that she should have lost the weight and tenn gave the answer closest to how he felt.

When Brooke answered that question, I knew there was no way she could be topped! Brandi gave a good answer but did not really answer the question. Tennessee was horrible and didn't belong in the top 3.
this pageant really resembles miss universe that year miss curacao who dominated the whole pageant failed to get to the top 3 and miss usa who is in the middle of the pageant won the whole thing
its really interesting to see that brook was dominating the interview and judges q&a in miss usa and then she again dominated the interview and jugdes q&a in miss universe
she got a score of 9.75 in q&a 2nd only to lara dutta's 9.95 in 2000

@rodolfo969: remember that not all judges voted for brook as miss usa or miss universe. for the final vote they are ranked and then its averaged. its very obvious that carolina herrera who was a judge in 1997 MU didn't put Brook in first place.

are you kidding? brooke lee is amazing. she doesn't look like any other miss usa that won before, and she certainly didn't look like any of the other contestants that competed at miss universe. she had the best answer for question and answer at usa. it was clear and to the point. brandi is gorgeous! but, her look is like any other girl that competed before and after her. congratulations to her though for being first runner up.
