So funny story about using a goose call
My buddy and I were out and saw these massive high-flying flocks, we could hear them making this cooing sound. Didn't know what they were at the time and couldn't get a good look at them. He started calling on a goose call and they circled but, very high altitude, not a lot of interest.
Fast forward a couple weeks and we hear one, see one lone bird so he starts buzzing on the goose call. It turns, comes right in, and starts circling behind us. I can't see it well but figure out pretty quickly it's not a goose. It comes out of the sun and I make a quick ID, realize it's a sandhill crane, dump it with a perfect headshot.
Total improv but we absolutely called in and killed a sandhill on a goose call.

I'm a year late to this party but no, see them eating together sometimes and have shot a few cranes over my goose spread.
