I think their sound is subjective of course. They seem to have slightly different sound profiles. M8 being slightly louder seemed to have a more rounder sound with more lows. M9 on the other hand has a more true sound profile (flatter) which may make it seem a little thin to some. They both blow any other phone the water in terms of sound so no wrong choice.
Well it also has dolby AUDIO, so it was suppose to add more quality to the actual sound when it comes to music, though it's really hard see if that's true in this video...
I bet that after HTC seeing the release and design of Galaxy S6 and Edge they are at least a bit regretting not making a redesign on their phones. I really thought the M8 was the best looking phone out there, but now seeing the S6 it actually looks a bit boring.
Samsomite well the s6 looks like the s5 that looks like the s4 that some how looks like the S3. Both companies didn't change much in the front ... But changed the back.
I don't see how the M9 can outperform the M8 with a smaller chamber size for the speakers. The larger chambers allowed for lower frequencies to resonate to fuller volumes in the M9 as well as boosting midrange and high range performance. Since the M9 is an overall smaller device, I don't think it will sound better than the M8 even with Dolby digital tweaking. What HTC should do is make a 5.5 inch device with large chamber size to allow for even better acoustic amplification. The One Max will always have the most immersive speakers on a phone because of that.
No idea why HTC had to "upgrade" Boomsound from M7, it's insanely loud and has zero distortion. M8 just became too tall because of the "upgrade". It's a shame, I had to go back to my M7.
Now if HTC would get rid of that waste of a black space they always use to include their HTC logo on the front, that would make it a lot less taller. I wish Samsung would do that too tbh.
the m9 is thicker than the most flagship phones , so there should be enough room without the the black space, they could get a Sharp screen that can be implemented without edges, so they could have less tall and less wide phones, i hate the double bezel on the sides(the screen cover black and then the alu body bezel... at least get ride of the black stripes on the sides and on the top..
***** Camera isn't really that much better, battery life was almost 3x better for me on M8 vs. M7 :( The speakers weren't at all in need of an upgrade, nor was the display.

Am super curious about the Dolby effect on the new One. You can easily tell the M9 from the M8 from the lip around the M8's edge. The M9 is flat, like the M7. Besides, luckily the black bar on the M9 is a little thinner. As are the bezels.
I did notice that the logo bar on the m9 is slightly shorter and it has shorter side bezels too. Gotta say that for once HTC's latest phone is my favorite one out.

I got to say that the m8 speakers are better because of the updates that it has to make it better so the m9 has only been out for a week as it goes on it will get even better as time goes on and release an update to improve speakers and camera functionality I'm in nz and I can't wait to play with it at 2 degrees, Vodafone, spark(telecom)
You can't go wrong with either of them. They both have front facing speakers which everyone knows is where the position of the speakers should be. I like the design of the M9 over the M8.
Ok I never owned an HTC One phone before. So for me the design is fresh. I have used Samsung all my life. I have a Note 3 right now and want to try another android phone. Would you guys recommend HTC M9 over other android devices? I see that HTC has retained the sound quality and made the black bar slimmer. Are there any other android devices you guys would recommend?
I will definitely suggest the M9 if you are coming from a different brand. It's one of the best put together phones out there. And things like BoomSound, BlinkFeed and Sense will give you the much needed rewarding experience that you might be looking for. And dude, the build quality. Don't even get me started on that. It is the best, Apple itself acknowledges it. But don't take my word for it. Once it gets released, go and give it a spin. You'll know what I'm talking about. And don't let our (previous HTC One owners') bitching distract you. We are only sour because we already know that we own the best hardware and don't feel that the current iteration is a massive step forward from what we already have.
The m7's Beats audio i thought was much better than the audio on the m8, i was really hoping the dolby would bring that back, but i can't really judge anything in this video.

Everyone, look at the M9! Do you not notice it's the perfect mix between M7 and M8. Just look at the corners of the M8 and M9 and see how the M9 has a broader shoulder similar to the ones on the M7. Help! I've been using Samsung phones my whole life and I want a change. I currently have S4 and I've been thinking about switching to HTC. Is it wroth paying more money for m9? Does m8 still hold up? I'm a student, so money is a concern for me. If m9 isn't worth the bigger price, I'll just buy the m8.

The testing parameters are false. The M9 is supposed to now have Dolby Surround sound. Try playing a movie and compare the two. For what is shown in here, the M8 has deeper levels but the M9 sounds like the M8 HK edition.
IMO, M8 is definitely louder and tends to distort, but M9 is more solid sound and clearer. Crisp and warm. I'm watching this on my M8. I prefer M9 because no distortion when max volume.

I prefer using 300 ohm headphones, so I want enough watt to power them so I can skip the weight of carrying a portable headphone amplifier.
I have 5 pairs of headphones, but usually I switch between my Sennheiser HD 650 and my Sennheiser HD 800. Both of them have 300 ohm.... So I would like to see 2.0 watt running power, and I would ideally like to have 256-512 g of memory to hold a big music library of various music from classic to pop music.
That's the reason I like m8 bec I prefer listening to music than games. Btw did you tried using PowerAmp? Sound is phenomenal! You can also set eq manually. Good in m8 too.
Watching this on the M7, a case of two steps forward then three steps back. They really needed to give the M9 a revolutionary evolution but failed big time. M7 still a class act though.

Rutger Jansen The camera and Sense 7 is about the only changes, other then the 4X Ultrapixel camera was used on the M9 front camera. Sense 7 is made by Creative Labs in Seattle, WA. Their office is sandwiched between a laundry cleaners and an Italian restaraunt, you would never know unless you had the address.

Actually he needs to use Binaural recording which gives a headphone listener the most accurate true to life experience of a product on a video. Check out clavinetjunkie youtube channel he does Binaural recordings for a lot of speaker products he reviews.

M8 has on screen keys, which side by side, usable area is the same as the M7... No major upgrade sinse the M7 really...

The M8 was directly facing the mic, and the M9 was on an angle. Also, this is a prereleased unit with unfinished software.

The HK speakers were just a software tweak, watch the video how to get the HK on a regular M8 phone. It's just Equalizer settings tweaks probably.

It's definitely the same. The M8 sounded louder because I'm sure the Mic was closer to the M8. HTC makes a great product 😁
He probably didn't realize that Dolby 5.1 would've been on by default on the M9 and didn't turn it off.

So far I didn't notice any distortion on my headphones. I'm using audio technica M50 and Sony MDR-1R. Forgot their specs but no distortion so far.

Actually he needs to use Binaural recording which gives a headphone listener the most accurate true to life experience of a product on a video. Check out clavinetjunkie youtube channel he does Binaural recordings for a lot of speaker products he reviews.
