Awesome video! FYI - you can now download maps for offline use in your google maps app. Just go to settings and tap "Offline maps". Cheers!
YES! We wish we had that on this trip. Would have been so helpful.
Who's here in may 2020 pretending everything is normal
This was GREAT! Very detailed
Thank you! =]
This is one of the most useful videos I have ever watched about Santorini! Awesome job, guys, big thumbs up! I have just one question- since you rented an ATV- how much is the cost per day and fuel? Also you said you can't really ride all the way, since there are a lot of walking parts, so how and were did you park your ATV? Did you pay for parking, did you secure the ATV? I would appreciate if you give me a bit more info about this. Also thanks for mentioning the wifi situation- will definitely consider buying Greek card (hope they are cheap and with data lol).
Thanks!
xx
Aww thank you so much! The ATVs were pretty cheap. It was like 23 Euros for a day. I don't remember fuel being too bad either. It was by far the BEST solution. We drove ALL OVER the island. No one pays for parking, it is pretty much a 'park anywhere' situation. lol. We took the keys to the ATV and that was about it. =] Yes, wifi was TERRIBLE at best. If we were to go again, a sim card would be a must.
That's great! Thanks for your advice, guys! I am looking forward to your next vlog!
Heading there in two weeks. What are the best hotels that will give you the perfect view of the Iconic blue tower? Thanks!
I would suggest doing some research on places that fit into your budget, but if you want those iconic blue domes, I would suggest looking for air b-n-b’s in the town of Oia. We stayed in Firostefani and loved it. Just drove to Oia for the gorgeous sunset. Best in Santorini.
Riv and Al Thanks. My gf got the Cave Suites in Oia. So hoping i am not disappointed. Lol
Winelson Merina Niiice! You’ll love it. Have fun!
Leaving for Santorini in less than 10 days and this is by far the most helpful video I've seen!
Thank you!
Am going to Athens, Santorini and Mykonos loved your video so many tips how bout a few restaurants in Santorini and also is it better to get euro here in US or i Greece? TIA
In our experience, we got a better rate in Greece, but look up the exchange rate in Athens when you're in the airport in the States, just to be sure ;)
Pat Picha - hi, did you get a visa? Do you have U.S passport? Did they require proof of vaccination?( ive heard from other youtubers). Is september to october still warm and sunny? Thank you.
@@kamea4023 proof of vaccination?
T-Mobile works in Europe.
I am currently on Santorini. Your video is so accurate, it's the best I have ever seen about Santorini. Nothing changed since 2016, all you guys are saying is still completely accurate. Waiters on Perissa Beach, AVT renting. I have great wifi in Perissa. It is just super. So if you like good wifi, choose Perissa with amazing Black Beach!
Sunscreen, could you find 70 or 100 spf? I know its expensive there but I want to avoid checked bags for a 3 day trip.
More pics and video of subject please - less video of yourselves chatting about subject - apologies I see this all the time on RUclips - people seem to forget it’s not about their faces ,
Thank so much for sharing your tips ! It’s has been very helpful 😍 one question thou does any of the rooms any fans?
Take bus from airport to fiora and trail walk to Oie. Have lunch and come back with the bus from Oie to Fiora, change buses to airport.
Wonderful video and info. Thanks so much for posting this. I will be heading to Santorini in mid September. Hopefully, it will be "warm" !
Very helpful. Planning my honeymoon trip. Appreciate the info..
I ate at Lucky's last April! It was f*&%ing delicious!!!
SO good! Honestly, would seriously consider just going back for Lucky's. lol
I am going again this April. Definitely going there this time around!
Hi guys thank you for your response, you guys are are lovely couple, I hope you guys are able to do more traveling and share with us, the very best in your endeavours, happiness and longevity in your marriage!! I will keep watching for videos, the world needs positivity like you guys give us, cheers..
Would 5k be enough to spend over there to do what I’d like ?
Wow this is a great video!! Swear I needed alllll of this info haha
My boyfriend and I want to go in May but want to do some research before we book our flights! Thank you!:)
Did driving an ATV require an international license or were you okay with your typical US license?
Yes, you need an international DL.
Awesome tips guys. Also note that August September is high season for tourist there since Europeans take their holidays in August plus or minus two weeks. So all lodging is double priced during high season. Wine lovers should note Santorini is known for its local wines. We kept our empty water bottles because locals would share or sale their personal wine if we have had our own containers.
That's awesome! And your tips/additions are great. Thank you for contributing. :)
We are spending a week in Santorini soon. Your videos are super helpful!
Have so much fun! :)
Thanks for the lovely video. I am going tomorrow .. I can not wait 😊. Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭 !
Have so much fun!! =]
NEVER RENT QUAD OR SCOOTER , EVEN CAR IN SANTORINI, BE AWARE, NO TRUST
This has been so so helpful and informative, thank you very much!!
Hi guys! Mi name is Gaby and I just wanted to thank both of you for all the tips, really helpful and clarifying. I'm planning a two weeks trip to Greece next september with my boyfriend I was wandering if a budget of €1000 cash each would be enough? Plus credit card.
Hope you can orient me with that. Thank you very much!
Hi Gaby, Everyone is different and wants/enjoys different things so it's tough to advise not knowing your preferences, but I know that we spent (all-in with hotels, flights, meals) a little more than that for our trip. However, we went to several places, flew from the US and stayed for 10 days, etc. Good luck in planning your trip and don't give up based on my response. It's entirely possible to do it on less!
Don’t you need an international license
Hey hey hey River and Allison!! So I was relaxing doing some knitting and threw on one of my favorite podcasts. Not sure if you've heard of them before: Extra Pack of Peanuts Travel Podcast. And I hadn't listen to them in a while and clicked on their most recently one! They were in Greece!! And I think around the same time you guys were. Anyways they also have some great travel tips and trick and locations for if people want to travel Greece! Just thought it was cool!
That's so cool! What if we saw them and didn't even know?!?! haha Thanks for sharing! We will have to check them out.
So helpful! We’re leaving for Santorini in less than 3 weeks and this was so informative! Thank you :)
Have so much fun! =]
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Like or Dislike: Like. It's hard to find travel videos on RUclips with actual content and not just visual footage. This was great, and I appreciate the podcast-friendly style.
More footage of the sites please.
You are both too standard and really boring in your presentation... Don't waste people's time....it was just all about you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am from Greece living in Bucharest last couple of years but visiting Santorini in few days and one suggestiong for all anywhere in Greece...if you need sunscreen wine or anything else that you can find in the super market then CHOSE the super market over any pharmacy/tourist shop! The prices are so much cheaper and the quality is more than ok!(for example you can for sure buy sunscreen for like 8-10 euro)
Stayed in Oia for a week (so amazing) about 10 or 11 yrs ago. At that time tips were not common. In fact they didn't expect any tips at all, but I still left a decent North American tip. We went to Rhodes Island after, were in a bar where, there was a bit of confusion/drama about our drink order, we felt badly about it so when we got our drinks, we tip 1 Eurole (which was only about $2.40 at the time, which was high compared to what most were tipping, as in most tipping nothing) my God the waitress was ours all night after that, she was so sweet too us (we did tip more we left) but it seams tipping has changed since we were there.
How hard is it to find parking with an ATV in different locations?
Thanks guys, this is super helpful as I am traveling to Santorini in a couple of days!
That's super exciting. Have so much fun!!
Great video! So excited for my trip in May, real quick question, did you guys need any special drivers licenses to rent an ATV, and was it something you could rent for multiple days?
Thank you and great question! We did get an international drivers license, but we’re never asked for it. However, they did copy our passports. But beware, under no circumstances should be allow a rental hold your passport. Word to the wise 😉 we did rent our ATV for several days and parked it at the place we were staying
Heading to Santorini next month, and your tips are super helpful! Love the video 👏
Our pleasure! Please let us know if you have any other questions and have so much fun on your trip!
Great video! If you want to stay in a budget there of course you can do it..Me and my friends stayed in Messaria which is 15 minutes away from Thira by bus and it was gorgeous...Tips for next time!
Thanks for sharing! We can't wait to one day go back
Hi, just wondering which boat tour did you guys take? Was it the diamond cruise with Sunset Oia? Thank you! :)
Best guide on Santorini I was able to find on RUclips. Big thanks from Czech Republic🙂
Great tips , thx u
WOULD LOVE A ROOM WITH A VIEW AND A HOT TUB, OF COURSE, AC, BUT I DON'T KNOW WHETHER TO STAY IN OIA OR FIOR, PLEASE ADVISE, DO WANT TO SEE SUNSET
Great tips! i did all that a few years ago and had a fantastic time! Stayed in Imerovigli in a Villa $250 a night. Would do it again.
best place in the world!!!!!
Thank you so much for all of this information! My husband and I are visiting Santorini late next month and this video is so helpful! I will definitely put these tips to use!
Hello! Do you need to have an international Drivers license to be able to drive the ATVs around the island?
When you are going to different cities is there areas to pro your ATVs and is there a charge to park them?
Nice to see an intelligent and informative video . Keep up the great work guys .
Hi guys, great tips! Can you provide us the name of the accommodation which you booked from Airbnb, cheers!
Do you need to be a certain age or need a global license to drive a moped or quad?
Hi River and Al. Useful tips thanks for sharing. Which month you guys traveled to Greece?
Any idea how is the weather conditions there is first half of October?
Thanks in advance! Cheers!
We were in Greece the first couple weeks of September. "October is a great time of year to visit Santorini, Greece, when the weather is superb and the island is relatively quiet. During this month, the temperatures are pleasantly mild, as is the average sea temperature which retains the heat from summer." Took that from here. Check it out --->> www.holiday-weather.com/santorini/averages/october/
If you end up going, have SOO much fun! It was gorgeous. We made several other videos from Greece too, if you want to check them out =] Here --->> ruclips.net/p/PLLABtq_fWqeH-mG6zP1kq-orur6ogxSLJ
Riv and Al I saw other clips as well and also the suspense you created in of them about your future plans for your channel. That was awesome:)
You both look nice together. Keep it going. Cheers! Hope to bump into you guys one day. ;)
Hi, i have a few questions. Did you guys have U.S passports? Did you have to get a visa? How about proof of vaccination they require ? Did you guys bring dollars and exchange it in Greece? Is september to october still warm and sunny? Thank you.:) Your video is awesome.🤗
We are US citizens and did not require a visa for this trip. We did get vaccinations but did not have to provide proof, but did bring the paperwork. We did exchange to Euros in Greece. We found the dollar a bit stronger in Greece, than before we left. And we thought September was gorgeous. ❤️
By far the most informative video. Thanks !
Aww, thank you! So glad it was helpful.
I was at Santorini in 1998 and while it's good for the Greek economy I hate hearing how bad it's being overruned by tourist from around the world. I enjoyed the beauty but I was there mainly for the Bronze Age archaeological sites. It is still an active super volcano on the vie scale of 7 but an earthquake is more likely. Most of my Greek family is on the mainland but I also have relatives on Kythira. There are places just as beautiful and cheaper in Greece such as the Vikos Aoos National Park in Epirus. I'll be back 2020. Vaccines?
I'm worried as well, and I'm an American heading there next year on a cruise ship,
και ζητώ συγνώμη για την ταλαιπωρία!!!! All my countrymen and others from the English and Mandarin speaking world are on here asking how they can affordably destroy the landscape with ATVs, and yet only you have mentioned the true treasure of the island, Akrotiri - the beginning of our civilization. And not a word from the yo's making this video on whether it would be considerate to try and learn some Greek language before going!
Is Santorini appropriate to take my 1 year old? Also, we plan on flying into Athens? We want to go to Santorini. How should I plan our hotel? All nights in Santorini? Or split our stay in Athens and Santorini. Sorry a bit worried. We’re going next month. If it’s too much for a toddler we may change our plans.
Honestly, Santorini is gorgeous, but pricey. It's a big 'adult' focused, with dinner, boating, sights, etc. Not a ton of things for small children, however if you plan to go to the beaches, you would be fine. I might suggest Chaina on Crete. So much to do! It's seriously the #1 place that we would immediately go back to in Greece
she looks like she doesn't wanna be here. but good info
Awesome video! I’m planning a visit to Athens, Santorini and Crete in September and your video gave me a lot of great tips to check out. Any additional restaurant/food recommendations for Santorini?
Lucky’s. For the best Gyro of your life. Go to to the towns and go into a local place. It’s the best way to experience the culture. We did that with a place in Oia and loved it. Just walked into a random place that looked cool.
Hey guys! Thank you for this awesome vlog! We are planning to go this summer. Question: In Santorini, can you rent ATVs at any hotel you’re staying in or only certain ones?
It was a separate business in Fira
Sounds like an amazing trip! We've never been overseas, but it's on our list of things we'd like to do. Greece sounds beautiful!
please know that there are some decent looking americans
Hi, guys! Great tips. Question and forgive me if I missed it, what time of the year did you go? We have a trip coming up in July and I know it will be crazy crowded so I am doing some surveys lol
Great question! We went in September. Crowds were not too bad and the weather was gorgeous
Riv/Al any tips on travelling between different Greek islands?
Also what Islands do you recommend the most?
Crete looks amazing
We loved Crete. Would go back in an instant. He did the Island Ferry and was great. Would highly recommend.
Thanks you guys really helpfull
Our pleasure! =]
Hi, I really enjoy watching your vids! How are the airport transportations? We are staying in Oia and arriving at night. Would you know if there are any bus transfers/shuttles or only taxis?
Airfare was great. We took Aegean. Check with your hotel/where you’re staying. Sometimes they offer their our shuttle or pick up. Just have to ask. We took a cab from the airport. I believe we used cash. Oia is pretty far from the airport. Have so much fun on your trip! Tweet us a photo, we miss it! @RiverAuSable
Great video! Thanks for the tips. My Husband Jim & I recently returned from a 3 week European vacation with our two young kids, Hunter- 8, and River-4 where we boarded a cruise in the middle of our trip and toured the Greek Isles. Santorini was amazingly beautiful. We can't wait to return, and explore more of the island. I subbed to your channel and will keep an eye out for more of your videos. Keep in touch! Michelle :)
Your child is 'River'?! That's awesome. Great name, if I don't say so myself =] Thank you so much for joining our community, Michelle. So happy to have you join us.
nerd stuff thanks.
Omg the crackling chemistry you both share !!!!!
it looks like it was a bit foggy in some photos what time of year did u go there? do u think it would be bad to go in september - november ?
We went in September! It was gorgeous.
great info......heading there next May
have so much fun!
Thanks!
No problem!
Hi guys thank you for doing this video, so incredibly helpful, planning a trip, if I ask, I take it you stayed two weeks, was two weeks enough time being in Greece?
I’m not sure you could ever be there long enough. Ha. But two weeks was a lovely vacation. Not too short, nor too long.
Booking 2 months ahead takes away a ton of options regarding hotels. Santorini is so popular now, people book out 9-12 months.
SOO popular. There were quite a few people there when we were there, but did not feel too overcrowded.
Hi Brother, My name is Akash from Ireland. Myself and my wife gonna visit santorini in end of september. So I wanted to ask you few questions 1)Do you suggest renting a scooter as I know santorini can be hilly too. If scooter would be viable if yes how much cc ? 2) I wanted to do boat tour but in hotspRING they ask you to swim etc and myw ife dont know swimming. Do you suggest stil do it , I mean if they have beaCcy kind of situation in hotsprings or not.
Hi Akash, thanks for dropping by and the comment. Happy to help the best we can. 1) We would 100% recommend a scooter/ATV. Made getting around so much easier for day-trips. The cost escapes us, but we remember it was worth it. Apologies. 2) HIGHLY recommend the boat tour, but understand if you both are uncomfortable with the limited swimming experience. The boat we were on dropped us off outside the volcano spring and you did have to swim in. No boats go all the way back. The boat trip overall was still worth it, to me, even if I didn't get in the water. Have so much fun!
Riv and Al thanks a lot 😀 We are here in Ireland . You should come over here too 😀 it’s nice here scenic beauty etc .
Oh my goodness. I would LOVE to go to Ireland. So so wish we could work it out.
I'm coming from the US. Do you need an international driver's license to rent a scooter?
We went to Crete on the same trip and were renting a car so we had one, however (depending on the business you go to) a license from the US should work. Just DO NOT give away your passport. Haven't heard of any scams or problems, but that is just a general rule of thumb. Have fun!
I'm looking for the sail excursion link that you mentioned would be included, any way to provide that?
Of course! Here you go: sailing-santorini.com/ Have so much fun! =]
Hi River & Alison, I have a really quick question regarding the boat tour company you guys suggested. I see there are many options to choose from like Red Cruise
Santorini Gems
Platinum Cruise
Diamond Cruise
Private Lagoon 400
Private Emily 46 Power Catamaran
Iguana 35 SpeedBoat
Luxury Yachts Private Excursion
Do you guys have any suggestion considering the moderate budget? Also which one did you guys took?
Thanks for your time and response.
Regards,
Piyush
I know that they are pretty expensive (to be honest), so I would compare the current prices of each bot to each other. The prices may have changed since we went a few years ago, so I don't want to mislead you. I would count on a at least couple hundred Euros. We took a catamaran which, in my opinion, is the only way to go. We saw some boats that were loaded to the limit of people and it just didn't look fun. The company we chose was called 'Sunset Oia'. It included pretty much the whole day on the water + meal/drinks. I hope they are still around, because they were amazing. Have fun!
www.santorinisailing.com
can u get a 4 seater atv
>>>>>>>>>STUFF IT
It can be windy
Are taxi's paid by cash? Since they are expensive I'm wondering how much I better keep on hand.
I think we only took one and I believe it was cash. Make sure you agree on the price before you leave!
We missed the last bus from Fira to Oia one evening..had to get a taxi back about €25...paid by cash.
VERY helpful tips (and a bunch of tips within a tip)
=]
Hi, please suggest if it's the right time to go to Santorini in the month of November. It's my anniversary:)
It would really help me to plan my vacation.
Thanks in advance!
We went in September, and it was perfect. As for November, I would suggest looking at historic temps that time of year. I imagine it would be a bit colder than Sept. Have fun!
@@RivAndAl Thank you so much for your time :)
www.jbvilla-santorini.com
Hi , may I know which month is better to travel to Santorini? Is November a good month to be there? Please advice. Thank you!
I think it depends what you would like to do on your trip. Google whether reports and conditions. We went in September and it was absolutely perfect.
Riv and Al thank you so much! 💕👍😊
First couple of weeks in Oct are nice.
How much did the 4 wheeler cost in total for the whole thing ? And what rental spot did it cost? Also I’m 21 and have my United States Driver’s License, is that fine ? PLEASE HELP , THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Unfortunately I do not recall and we paid cash for it, but i remember, contextually, that it was reasonable for the 3 days worth of rental that we got it. Apologies. I would say it was in the ball-pack of $75-$100 USD.
Do you need an international license to rent the four wheelers or cars?
We got one before hand, but they only looked at our Passport. Do not leave your passport with anyone though!
Heading to Snatorini for my honeymoon in September! Thank you so much for this video! Just curious do yall reccomend any travel booking websites or just travel tips in general when buying tickets to Greece?
Yes! Great question. We ONLY recommend using confirmed logging sites. We used Air B-n-B or hotel group sites, directly. No owner-operated sites, out of concern for their legitimacy. (nothing against Greece or Greeks, just a general rule we use) Airfair, same thing. We love Skyscanner.com for deals!
Unbelievable,
I wont need sun screen... born with it LOL nice video
;)
When is good time to visit?
I have a week end of October ......so I was thinking to go Santorini.
Mischellie M. Oh my gf and I just got back. September is awesome. Less tourists but still busy.
We went in September and it was gorgeous. October may be great as well. See if you can look at historical patterns. That's what I would do! =] Have so much fun!
Nice video taking my girlfriend in feb so this was very helpful
Thank you, our pleasure! Have so much fun and let us know if you have any other questions
A great place to stay is Aqua Suites...check out my video for details ruclips.net/video/lFSDfiM6oCY/видео.html
this is sooooooo helpful! Thank You!!!
How much was it to rent an ATV?
I don't recall right off, but I know that it wasn't crazy-expensive. We rented it for a few days as one reservation because it was cheaper than renting a new one every day. That way we could park it where we were staying and have access to it whenever we needed it.
good tips, but this video is meant for a vacationer not a traveler...this island has so much history, vinyards and culture as well if you want to educate yourself other that partying it up and being comatose on a beach during your stay
Did dude just say "Eccetra?" -_-
...Pretend-Lumberjack.
Guys! How much are the Atv's?
It cost us about 25 euros including the helmet you do need an international driver's license
So you have a Confederate flag tattoo on your chest?
Definitely not.
Lol. Your wife was so not into the video. She’s not even smiling. YIKES! Either she hates RUclips taping or was not about this topic. Hahahaha.
