    This is interview was a really interesting one. I'm not really used to to listen to these often, but i guess it will be my new habit.
    I really appreciate that someone takes the effort and showcase to the community that how much this game can really offer parkour wise.
    I bought the game about 2 months later upon release but i didn't had the time to play with it.
    I also heard that some people were not found of this game, but i don't really care about that.
    I am so happy that Ropotopolous made those parkour videos, i didn't found anything similar to them. Really great Quality imo.
    I was always into Assassin's creed, the lore, story, gameplay, the settings, everything.
    I'm thought about making videos, but i always chickened out, that it will be even worth it for the community or they will stay hidden from eyes

    Looks like that's a product of the buffering interacting with the Emergency Aim skill causing the quick throw knives to track during the focus window. This means it has some limitations when it comes to engaging guards facing away from you, but you can also get some pretty disgusting defusals if only a handful of enemies spot you. Liquid also says you need Light Blade, which is strange because I was under the impression throwing knives were instant. Maybe in addition to a higher power charged state, it also adds a faster uncharged state, similarly to how I sometimes strategically shoot uncharged bows in stealth action games to get the effects of a certain ammo type or shot placement without having to wait for the drawstring to pull all the way back

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  2 месяца назад +1

      That makes a lot of sense. I'll go back to look at it myself but is every instance of Liquid using this tech one where guards are actually facing Basim? Some of them are even done several seconds post-detection where he's already been running for a little while, so I'm just wondering.

    On assassins creed’s uniqueness
    I personally go gameplay>iconography>story
    If you give the feeling of being a brotherhood assassin when just roaming the world I’m really hooked and as ropotopolous said having a good story is a bonus. I like gushing about this characters outside of them just being a cool assassin.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  2 месяца назад +1

      Makes sense to me, I think a lot of players could relate to that. The mechanical fantasy of _being_ an Assassin with the kinds of actions being that archetype _gives_ us is something that really matters to me, so I think even just having access to those kinds of moves and techniques makes the feel of any story better already.

      Really glad you've played so much of it! It's such a special genre, huh? If you get a chance, try out Bloodborne or Dark Souls III after, they're both quite comfy if you're already used to how this game feels. Bloodborne can't run at 60fps unless you have a hacked PlayStation which is a little rough, but Dark Souls III should feel pretty smooth on a PS4 Pro / PS5.

    Why no one mention MGSV :(
    Was MGSV too early for the RUclips stealth/movement choreo boom
    Especially when just playing through the game you automatically pick up the speed stealth playstyle due to optional objectives reruns etc.
    For example, really liked how you can get a feel for all the distances that you can get detected at depending on your stance, so you can skirt around these distances, keeping speed while neutralizing enemies/or flatout "dirty" ghosting them.
    Only later did I find that people played AC like this too (specifically Unity). Personally in my playthrough of that game, I didn't feel encouraged by the game to play it like that.
    Tbh I feel like I played every AC wrong after watching any SSJ Lang video, and Kino, Execution Producer etc. with all those combat, stealth and parkour techniques that I didn't even know of their existence...

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  2 месяца назад +5

      Metal Gear Solid V isn't really a movement game, sadly. It's one of my favorite games of all time, and I always, always, always recommend people play it in a _general_ sense, but these players are looking for games with parkour or roof-to-roof traversal which neither Phantom Pain nor Ground Zeroes _really_ have. It's nothing against the game, it's a great game, it's just not the right _type_ of game / not what they're looking for.

  • @ivanov4999
    @ivanov4999 Месяц назад

    18:19
    Could it be that Unity's flaws on launch plus the backlash from the community lead to a Fisher-Price approach in the gameplay design of Syndicate and that dreaded soft-reboot? Ever since Syndicate, all of the assassins display these cartoonish abilities - starting with the Bat Man parkour in Syndicate: Bayek is an HP sponge, Kassandra can fall from any height without taking damage, etc.
    I mean, I'm 'only' 70h into Odyssey after drunk-buying Valhalla on Steam and figuring mid-way through that I had to spend the majority of my spare time in '24 catching up to Mirage beginning with Unity plus the cursed comics. I'm on the verge of listening to the novels in order to make more sense of the way Ubi portrays those characters. It can't be that bad, right?

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Месяц назад +1

      I have thought about these things myself many times, and it's hard to know, even now. Because, these games are often developed concurrently, so they probably wouldn't have the time to make those kinds of changes in response to feedback they would only get when they're already a year or even a few months out from release. Definitely not for deep, overall director's vision, but maybe for smaller things that can be changed on the surface.
      As far as whether Unity's flaws were responsible for Origins and the RPG Trilogy existing, I've talked to people who've told me that those games were planned to be RPGs years before, and they were always going to be that way. If Unity was a perfect game that everyone loved, it didn't seem like that would've made a difference.
      Origins for example was basically in development as soon as Black Flag was done, which makes sense when you think about it: Black Flag already had material-grinds in the game when it came to upgrading your ship.

    • @ivanov4999
      @ivanov4999 Месяц назад

      Black Flag's activities never felt like a chore, and, speaking for me, Origins' defining feature was not the grind, even though it took a relatively long time to complete the main quest - Origins stands out as an archetypal RPG, whereas Black Flag blindsided us with being a perfect up-to-date Pirates! without anyone having asked for it. I guess that's my main problem with Origins to Valhalla - they're not that great at being RPGs.
      With the overlapping development of the games in mind, maybe it's a case of not being willing to innovate anymore, settling for the translation of a formula instead. "Assassins and Pirates mixed well, why can't we make assassins into warriors?" Which then in turn means that AC4 was so good at being AC-hybrid that it broke the franchise.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Месяц назад +1

      Yeah, I feel the same. It's not so much about whether they were defining features, but moreso that we can already see those glimpses of what the series would eventually become even that far back. As you noted, even narratively AC4 is about that hybrid of identities.
      It was received so well by audiences that Ubisoft definitely doubled down, and never went back ever since. No Assassin's Creed game has ever actually excelled at being what it is, and that stays true with the modern ones, they're not incredible RPGs. The difference back then is that even though the classics were still janky 7/10 games, they're my favorites and the favorites of so many fans because of their uniqueness and their commitment to Being Assassin's Creed -- they were carried by that.
      Nowadays that uniqueness is a bit more absent, so without it there to hide behind, we notice the "average" nature of them more easily.
