Very approachable teaching, especially for beginners. I am a music teacher and I appreciate your theory concepts and scaffolding. In a classroom, with more time, I will break it down still more to simplify the walking pattern then incrementally add those 8ths over time. Great job kid!
James: great lesson and I like the way you teach. I think the fill from D to G is F-E-D-B-G, because if played in reverse (ascending), it's G-B-D-E-F, .which is a typical early Blues/Rock & Roll riff (G7) and Duff comes from a Punk background, so he would be familiar with this.
@@ebassguitar Back in the late 1987, Duff and Steve Adler helped me move a sheet of plywood into my apartment. It was at 1750 N. Sycamore in Hollywood, and as typical of those days, the plywood was going to be set atop milk crates so that my mattress was raised off the floor. G-n-R were staying with Adrian, Adriana, and Gabby a few apartments over.
I used to play the non-fill parts like you in the video. That is, playing just the roots with rests. But after hearing the isolated track on RUclips, Duff actually plays the open string wherever I had a rest. So the first bar for example is actually D-A-DD etc. (dropped tuned a semitone, of course)
Great lesson, broughams !! I particularly liked your personal fill off the D note, at about 16:17, I thought it more suitable and melodic than the original riff there.
Yes another AXEsome lesson. I use £50 cans and your bass sounds really great. The bass sound in some lessons is thin or tinny. My questions are. 1) How much do you believe good players "derive" bass lines or is a lots instinct + semi random but semi based on experience + "wrong notes" that totally work. 2) do you imagine they vary what they play when live...... Did John entwistle play different but similar riffs on my Generation?
Hi James, could you post the INTRO bassline, please, that very melodic bit that goes way beyond the 12th fret, and leads into the song itself. The lines you posted were ones that occur throughout the song, but omitted to do the intro. Cheers and thanks, Fred Jansohn
Funny I played Bass for yrs in bars n stopped playing Bass for like 8 yrs. And joined a band right away the day I got a bass n trying to learn 35 songs I couldn't keep up. Once I worked on 5 song's for practice they did another 5 I didn't learn yet as they capoed the songs I learned in natural notes n so I got so overloaded having to play a gig in the same week. I couldn't hear the monitors at all . Thinking of the Beatles doing without monitors. Anyways they kept trying to tell me how to play but couldn't tell me what chords it's in. I tried my heart out but it was a embarrassing situation. I can play and I'm never stopped learning more now than ever with a chip on my shoulder. I got fired but they just lost my feel. Guitar player and drummer constantly arguing n I get to practice and they eat dinner laying around for a hour or so. I just met a beautiful woman after my wife died in my arms. So stressed out wanting to be best I could. Oh well thank you I got this now n your right play it with your style too
This video begins at three minutes and 30 seconds if you don’t want to listen to this guy yammer repeatedly about how Duff does this unique stuff that he doesn’t, he says that about 10 times in 3 1/2 minutes…
