- In this month's fishing report we travel to the gem that is Back Bay located in far southeast Virginia. Learn about early season fishing opportunities at this popular water body. Regional Fisheries Biologist, Chad Boyce, highlights this unique location and the diverse fish assemblages that call Back Bay home.
I used to live in Virginia Beach, and Back Bay was where I spent all my spare time. I love ❤️ Back Bay !!! I now live in Northern Virginia, I really hope it’s a healthy fishery nowadays. Matter of fact, I always fished out of Muddy Creek. Parking my truck in the field across from Blue Pete’s Restaurant.
Thank you for sharing your article on Back Bay, so many great memories!!
Ya We Fishing
North west river in Chesapeake VA
I don't usually head out east, but looks like a really nice place to fish.
I live less than 2 minutes from back bay. It is so much fun to fish for white perch out there. The bass fishing is also amazing
tynx for the info and tips bro and tynx

Excellent content! Thanks!
Awesome y’all! Really appreciate the locations of the ramps, it can be hard to figure that out.
Thanks for sharing this info... I'll be in Sandbridge later this week! What would you recommend using as bait/tackle in late August?
We Fishing
Is there a ramp at the north end of Knotts Island? I used to launch a canoe there ~40 years ago. It wasn't well developed then as I recall, but it was good enough.
Great segment ! how about the upper chickahominy river ?
Only thing i would ask about is snake population, although VDGF would alert if necessary.
Any opportunities for shoreline fishing? For those without a boat?
@Virginia DWR Is there anywhere close to Hampton Norfolk Virginia Beach or Newport News where I can find trout?
I don't know about trout, but the lake next to the Botanical Gardens is a destination spot for walleye. I also caught a speckled trout near at the Ocean View Beach park.
@Wyatt Jones Thank You
Any good crabbing spots in back bay?
What about snakes?? I have a single person inflatable pontoon boat and I would hate to have a cottonmouth jump in my boat.
just bring lots of pepper spray it deters them
Hard to take these guys serious when both of them have a face mask on and then one loses the face mask. And then their friends on the other boat don't have any face masks on.
