    2023 is here and New Year's Resolutions will ALWAYS be a thing. Maybe you've set goals before. Maybe you have a list of failures. I know I do. But many of us get caught up in goals and don't spend much time on creating good practices that lead to goals. Approaching 2023 with a different framework might be the key. So where to start? Watch the dang video.

    Clicked for info, stayed for the music 😂 great video man! I’ve been doing 100 KB Swings a day as of last month because this new job messed up my old gym routine and I brought a KB to work and it’s been giving great results! My coworkers kept eyeing me at the start but now they see some progress and want to get into it too! 😂 keep up the content 🤙🏽

    The KB swing is transformative in all the right ways for anyone, but especially for 40+ men. I was morbidly obese almost all of my life. After losing 90lbs with pure nutrition in 2020 I started swinging a bell. Swings and pushups HIT style have allowed me to lose another 25lbs and add significant muscle. Current workout is 2 cleans per hand, pass in between, 10 2 handed swings all with a 62lb (28kg) bell, drop bell and do 10 pushups. Catch my breath, take a few laps around the mats and start again. Roughly 25 minutes for everything. Cardio is included. I do this 2-3 days per week. Two other days a week I do get ups and some shoulder rehab work (my weak joint) working in pull ups and chin ups (starting with negatives). I just turned 50 and I feel like I'm 25 in all aspects of my life and I've never worked out for longer than 30 minutes at a time. I can run three miles without difficulty (but will never do so - too much stress on joints as I'm 6'3" 225lbs). It all started with 10 sets of 10 swings with a 35lb bell.

      Your routine reminds me of one of Pavel Tsaoulines books ( I forget which one but there are two similar ones) and another Dan John routine. The common denominators as you point out that they are doable with decent intensity in fairly short periods of time and frequency and that they have tremendous crossover benefit like with running stamina and pullups and are very comprehensive overall conditioning and strength workouts. Simple is great!!

    If you want to know why most people don't follow through with resolutions, it's because the new year is in March when spring arrives, when all forms of life start to feel rejuvenated after months of the dying season that is winter. Spring brings new life, Winter brings end. Just some food for thought. Look into the history of calendars and you'll see we've been duped and that's why our commitments that start Jan 1st tend to fail

    With rabies, you have like 72 hours to get shots to prevent contracting the disease. Unfortunately, you can't be tested without like a brain biopsy, or something, so if you're scratched or bitten and the animal isn't caught, killed, and tested, it's definitely a good idea to get the shots, just to be safe.
    It happened to me in 2014 with a baby raccoon that was crossing the road. I tried to help it and the slow thing got fast really quickly and bit me. I didn't think it broke the skin, but the next day, my finger was swollen. I got 6 shots at the hospital and, not having health insurance at the time because I was a poor student, I got a bill for $30,000. That was eventually settled for significantly less, but still a lot...either way, once symptoms present, you have something like a 1:100,000 chance of surviving without severe brain damage, so whatever it costs, whatever you think about the risk...it's worth it to be safe.

      How many reps should someone do to have it be beneficial?

    • @LaBrujaCinica
      @LaBrujaCinica Год назад +1

      @@WhoIsJonHarrisReps vary a lot from person to person, depending on objectives, the weight you are using, if your in definition, volume, going to compete, just trying to maintain, etc. But a 100 is way too much. It means that what you are doing is extremely easy, and yor body (muscles) are perfectly capable of doing so, hence no improvement. In top of that, Kettle bell swing its an excercise in wich your spinal erectors can take over all the work, and those are extremely well trained (they keep us standing all of our lives). Im talking about strengh here, probably doing that actually works like cardio, with the benefits of cardio, but i personally wouldnt do it for the health of my lower back in that case.

      @@bacul165 But this is an excerise with a bell that does not improve your muscles at all and actually hurts the lower back. It is not presented as cardio (as the 5 mile run is) but as an hipertrofia excercise and they say it has tons of benefits just becuase lots of muscles are required, but actually none of them work in a way they get stronger, It is a waist of time, at least the 5 mile run will give you cardio benefits whihout the pain in the back.

    Great video. I may have missed it, but does it matter if the 100 swings are broken up into sets, or does it need to be 100 continuous swings to get benefits? I assume that building an anchor point habit of daily swinging in and of itself is beneficial regardless, so I’ll just see what this 53-year old, post-stroke and post-open heart surgery gritty veteran can do. Based on current squat and deadlift, I know 10x10 is easily in reach and 5x20 or more isn’t unrealistic. And 1x100 is aspirational by the end of 30 days.

    What kinda neck surgery did you have done? I was partially spinally decapitated for 13 years then got the front of my neck fused c3-c7 then a year later got the hardware removed due to it loosening. Then a year later fell due to my bad heart and snapped my fusion and got the backside fused. It has been like 5 years since.

      You can “kinda” do swings with dumbbells. But it won’t ever feel the same. The weight just doesn’t move the same. But work with what you got! You can always get a bell in the future. I’d suggest a 16kg or a 12kg for swings first.

      I typically workout before “work”. Swings can be first. But not always. I did workout yesterday that had almost 200 swings total in it so I didn’t do another set of 100. The daily swings are just a general baseline for me currently. But I think it can be a great anchor point for anyone.
