We got the Panasonic G7 with the 14-140mm lens for vlogging and travel videos. It's a fantastic camera for the price. The lens was a good choice because of the range you have. I got some awesome shots of boats from being on a ferry and I would have never got them if I chose a different lens. We just posted our first ever vlog if anyone wants to see a more "real world" use for the camera. The autofocus was hit and miss though as I only purchased the camera before we left and I hadn't nailed the settings yet.
B&H now have $300 off on the GX85 with the 12-32 lens. $497 with free shipping. This camera adds the inbody stabilization which becomes dual image stabilization with a stabilized lens (the included one is also stabilized). This is a better deal than the G7. I do own a G7 and its great. I loved it so much I ended up with a GH5 as well but still take my G7 anywhere I worry about theft or damage (hiking and such).
I'm about to get this camera, I already know a lot about it but I still like to watch videos like this about the G7. That's because I like to see what RUclipsr does a great review job. My subscription is looking a bit bland lately. Your video is by far the best and I enjoyed your humour throughout! Definitely liked and subscribed. Also, I noticed your server rack - nice! Do you have a studio tour video that features your unit? I'd love to watch it.
Thanks so much for subscribing! :) It's here in my April office tour ruclips.net/video/zEJIkifYwLU/видео.html Though I'm not sure how much it's touched on. Hard to keep office tours going when things change so much. If you really wanna jump down the rabbit hole, I have a couple videos talking specifically about the rack/stuff in it ruclips.net/p/PLzo7l8HTJNK-wvNHLRE3F0w1s6mqwy9mP And then a whole different playlist talking about my original server build back at my old apartment before I had the rack haha
The AF Continuous setting works the same as previous Panasonic cameras: it enables AF to be continually adjusting while shooting video. Otherwise you need to tap of half-press to refocus during video. Best to keep this OFF to avoid focus hunting during video but you MUST pay attention to focus and refocus if the subject depth changes either manually using the focus ring on the lens or automatically by tapping or half-pressing or however you have set up the camera to focus. For handing the camera to a n00b you put Continuous AF to ON: it'll focus hunt during video, but at least it'll refocus instead of having a whole video out of focus because they aren't paying attention to focus. Might also be suitable in run and gun type situations.
Awesome review on the G7. I've been looking at getting either the G7 or G85. I want to get back into doing video and some photography. Thanks for the info. And it's cool to see some good content coming out of the same area near me.
I Bought this as my first Camera loved it so much i did a review on it as the best budget Camera at $500. I mean a 4K video....that's awesome. Nice Video BTW.
You might be able to save "snapshots" while playing back video, but while in Movie mode, you cannot shoot photos. The shutter button also serves as a record button and I've not found a single option or reference to change that.
My friend recently left mine on top of the car. Decided to go with this camera again! Was planning to get a sony for the auto focusing but I am now convinced to go back to the g7.
I think the reason why your camera splits the video files up every 4GB is about the SD Card format as opposed to the camera doing it on it's own. I shoot with a D3200 and a 50MM and my camera too is noisy at ALL ISOs it crazy how much gear does matter when you are trying to take up your quality. I'm definitely looking at picking up a G7 or G85 soon. Great video by the way.
So, does it stop recording at 30minutes, but then automatically starts recording again? Without having to manually start recording again? If someone could help me that would be cool.
The mic input is on the other side so a mic plug doesn’t get in the way of any other cables you may have plugged in like usb or HDMI. I’d get tired of unplugging it and plugging it back in when I used these other ports. Also and I know I’m being nit picky but AFS - autofocus single. AFF - Autofocus flexible
@@EposVox i dont get it if thats a joke hmmm ok.. last question when will you have a give away? i want a g7 badly so so much.. thats my dream camera since then.. i hope you'll read this
I bought the G7 a while ago but I found that a fair amount of the pictures and even the video could come out a bit grainy, even in daylight without the ISO cranked up. Any clue why? Am I a bit of a camera noob :)
Once you get past 1600 iso you will get that and some of that is due to the small sensor (micro 4/3). Lighting is the key and the lens also plays a part of that. The best all around lens for the G7 is the panasonic 12-35mm 2.8. The 2.8 is going to give you better pics in lower lighting and better depth of field for blurred backgrounds. Its pricey but its worth it. You could also try going for a longer shutter with less ISO but you have to be steady or on a tripod with a longer shutter because movement will create blur (good to use the 2 sec timer for this). I'm just a noob too and picked this up as a hobby last year. :^)
I REALLY want a camera for traveling, to make cinematic videos and can't decide which camera to go for. Budget is about $800. Is there something better than this camera for that price? Do I necessarily need 4K for good cinematic videos?
For perfect glitch free joining of 4k files, you must join them 1st before putting them on a timeline. Use the free software "My MP4Box GUI" and select the join tab. It will properly join the file sets together perfectly with no audio or video glitches. Just make sure that you choose the proper video files that go together on a "per recording" basis. I put my USA NTSC G7 in service mode and get unlimited 4k recording time. It is just a killer camera for the price. I also like that it has the low pass filter on the sensor to help with moire. I have a GX85 and it can have just a slightly sharper image (barely if at all) but it definitely can suffer from moire that the G7 controls better.
This is the greatest idea ever! ...I need your recommendation, I have G7 and kit lens 14-42 mm and 50mm 1.7 i like it but not too sharp I want combo like that one you have can you tell me which lens you use for @5:54 ? Looks amazing. Also I love Nikon lens
I think I'm gonna get this camera as my first one! do you think I'll be okay with the stock 14-42mm kit lens? I really don't know the differences between lenses very much, but I'm just gonna be using this camera for vlogging, streaming and some close up video recording with not a lot of movement. Definitely not going to be a power user: I just like the clarity and quality of the camera ^^
So I am trying to start a photography business as well as begin making videos. I have a budget of around $1000 (I am 17) and I have a few wants/needs for a camera. These include: Sharp image quality, at least 6 fps shooting, at least 1080p 60fps (slow motion is something I will be doing) but 4k would be much better, at least 20000 iso, wi fi and bluetooth as well as time lapse mode would be nice, tilting display, good auto focus, microphone port (not necessary but it would be nice), a touch screen would be great, Environmental sealing would also be nice, lots of lenses to choose from. So those are my needs/wants in a camera, It will be for everything from landscape photography, to product photography, portraits and the video will be used just as much. I have narrowed my search to 2 camera that I have found and can get for the same price right now. They are the Canon T7i and the Sony a6300. The kits I found have the following: Canon T7i, EF-S 18 - 55mm IS STIM, EF-S 55 - 250mm lens, filter, battery charger, 2 batteries and camera bag or the Sony a6300, 16 - 50mm lens, battery and charger. Both kits cost the same. I am having trouble deciding, I like the T7i for the ease of use i.e. touch screen, fully articulating, lots of lens options, good button layout, classic dslr feel and the 60fps 1080p is the only reason I want to pay more for it over the T6i which is $500 off at the moment as I want to do slow motion. But I am disappointed that it doesn't have 4k which is why the sony a6300 is nice. I like the 4k capabilities and the 1080p 60fps. Really both cameras have similar photography capabilities. But I am disappointed that the sony a6300 doesn't have a touch screen and the numerous articles about sony a6300's over heating are worrisome as well as the poor button layout. Anyways, my question is which of these 2 packages is the better option for my needs as both are the same price and if you have a better option to recommend please let me know! Thank you very much and I hope to hear some replies soon as the deals are time sensitive. Thanks.
So crazy that the G7 shoots in 4k at 16MP, I have a Pentax KS2 which has 20MP and shoots 1080p. I do more photography tho as I travel a lot. How is the market for panasonic lenses? I've been on the fence of getting my mom a dslr and $500 is a great entry for something modern.
Great video. I have a question. Could I use couple of these cameras for a hour and a half live stream? Or will it shut off after 30 mins? I just want to grab image.
How do you know what adapters to get for your vintage lenses? I have a g6 and have been wanting to get some vintage Russian lenses but don't even know where to begin with the adapter mounts. Good vid btw 👍
I’m sorry, but I’m struggling so much right now. I’m trying to record in manual video mode but WITH continuous autofocus. I’ve watched so many videos and not a single one of them have been able to conclusively explain how to get continuous autofocus in manual movie mode, or if it’s even possible. I want to be able to set my own aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, but I want continuous autofocus (that doesn’t require any sort of tapping or button input, that part is important.) if anyone has any suggestions, I’m all ears.
Autofocus is a separate option in the video menus, that isn’t tied to any specific mode of the camera. Just hit menu, continuous autofocus is in the video menus
"3 current cameras" Err, wat. Well I had a T3i and a G7, I sold the T3i to buy another G7. no combination of those would equal the cost of a GH5, I still need multiple cameras (G7 would be a backup cam to GH5), and selling them all to buy a GH5 would mean a lot of downtime without a camera at all, which I can't afford. none of it is that simple or works out that way
Can you tell the details of the difference between this and the GH4 and GH5. Trying to decide on a good cinematic filming camera. I know those are better but this looks great too. There are so many models to compare it to. I also was leaning towards the a6500 and A7sii
What would be a good zoom lens to match the camera up to for travel video? Everyone raves about the matchup to the Sigma Art lenses, and at $600 or so I'd pony up if I thought it was worth it, but the lens doesn't seem idea for travel given its size and weight, especially as I'm just taking a lightweight tripod with me - I don't exactly want to lug my regular one along as I'll be trekking through the Himalayas for over a month!
One question, please. Does your camera (G7) have time limit to shooting video in 4K? The european version has a limit of 30 minutes. I heard that US version does not have this limit. Is it true?
I sent it in around Thanksgiving and they still have it. It's been an *awful* experience thus far - but that's primarily to do with the warranty department. They told me it was fine to send in and in warranty, then when they went to inspect it, I got a call asking for a $75 inspection fee plus however much to actually repair. Took a MONTH of fighting them on 3 different communication methods before they found and fixed my 3 year warranty extension I sent in last year. They're just now fixing it this week, waiting on parts to come in. So if you're w/in 1 year warranty, you're good. If you got a confirmation about warranty extension (I never got one and didn't think about needing it) then you should be good. but otherwise..... good luck.
Hey EposVox, Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for your reply. That sounds horrible! I will keep that in mind when considering purchasing one of their cameras, as that seems really frustrating. I watched your recent videos, and thought it was cool you bought another G7 vs. the RED fad for RUclipsrs. - Paul
I kinda feel left behind because my only 4k video recording device is my iPhone haha. Should I be fine if I don't have any dedicated 4k cameras for a while?
GREAT AND AWESOME REVIEW! BTW, IF I AM GOING TO BUY THIS CAMERA . IS THERE ANY CHARGER OR STRAP OR ETC. INCLUDED ?? OR JUST THE BODY ONLY ?? PLS REPLYYYY
Always check the product page of what you're buying to confirm what it comes with. But mine came with both of those things. You can watch the unboxing here: ruclips.net/video/fRQ4d3OUFzA/видео.html
What lenses do you use for that awesome Bokeh effect? Its one of the best looking bokeh effect I have seen. Those purple lights blurred in the background just make it look sooo good. I am hoping to get the G7 really soon (when i get my exam grades, lol) so i thought i might pick some lenses with it as well!
Do you have a video or guide on how and what types of lenses can adapt to this camera? the lumix lenses are so expensive and I have a box of old vintage lenses from nikons and such but dont know how to get them to work with the camera?
well counts me out i dont want a camera with a time limit while recording.... do you knwo if the gh5 has that dumb timelimet trash on it.. i want to use it for live streaming and filming friends sets when they play live and dont want a time limit
Hi all the Panasonic - G7 is now $499, and LUMIX GX85 is $599 both are in sale, I am looking for a low light / lunar photography camera, please let me know which one would be good?
Thinking about getting it as a b cam to the g9 if it gets a cheaper in like a year a so, because the image sould look pretty similar on them and i can use my lenses for it!
"Gear might not matter, but the right gear does make a difference" 👌 so so true
great review bro
Thanks :)
Many famous RUclipsrs use a similar camera, but it's the content that matters. Just make sure your you know how to use your gear. Still learning here.
Picked mine up last week. Took the savings from the body and used it on great glass. This camera is amazing. LOVE IT. Kit lens is great also.
Nice!! :)
You still loving it? How about the self-shooting focus issues that he mentioned?
What glass did you get?
lol

I love my G7. Still getting used to all the features, but it has worked great for video and photo. Great review!

We just grabbed one of these from B&H for $597 with a 14-42mm lens! The footage so far is stunning!!! We cannot wait to start sharing this beast.

manual?
EposVox gimbal ?
So you said you can not take a still picture from the videos is that correct?

Great job on this review. You hit all the important topics to video shooters, and you moved at a nice, quick pace that was just right!
Thanks for watching!
Definitely getting this and I liked this video only because of the silver color, good choice.
Great review, well informed and the comparison of stills was much appreciated as it is lacking in many other reviews. Thank you
Thanks for watching!!!
My friend recently left mine on top of the car. Decided to go with this camera again!
Was planning to get a sony for the auto focusing but I am now convinced to go back to the g7.
It's a good body. Ouch to the car thing.
you have a great voice for vids like this, do more please !
Maybe not perfect camera, but for the price it seems to be among the most valuable cameras out there.
It certainly is
can it shoot video for more than 30 mins at a time?
I think the reason why your camera splits the video files up every 4GB is about the SD Card format as opposed to the camera doing it on it's own. If you format your cards to exFAT, then this should not be a problem. SD cards are usually formated as FAT 32 which has a maximum capacity for single files at 4GB. This is what I know about this matter and I am open to correction if my interpretation of your issue is off
Nope. My cards are all exFAT and the camera formats them to exFAT in the camera itself.
I don’t see the issue with the mic jack on the other side.
Is it still worth buying if your just planning on shooting 1080p?
Anyone know the workaround to make it record for an hour?
No volume control? I read there are 4 settings for external mic including auto gain
Hey! What adapter are you using to use that old Nikon lens? I want to use my Nikon E series 50mm and I don't know what to use!

can you mount this on a tripod
Yes
How much battery lasts on non-stop recording?
So, does it stop recording at 30minutes, but then automatically starts recording again? Without having to manually start recording again? If someone could help me that would be cool.
You have to manually start it
@@EposVox ok thanks, would you be able to start it with the app on your mobile device? Or is the app just for looking at footage.
How good is it for taking photos?
The mic input is on the other side so a mic plug doesn’t get in the way of any other cables you may have plugged in like usb or HDMI. I’d get tired of unplugging it and plugging it back in when I used these other ports.
Also and I know I’m being nit picky but AFS - autofocus single. AFF - Autofocus flexible
You mention the used camera market. Would you recommend getting the G7 used?
Absolutely! I grabbed a second one without lens used for like $350 back in the spring.
How much are lenses for this? It's on Amazon for $500 with a 14-42 kit lens, and I think it's new.
Dmc g7 and G7 whats the difference?
G7 is shorthand :P
@@EposVox i dont get it if thats a joke hmmm ok.. last question when will you have a give away? i want a g7 badly so so much.. thats my dream camera since then.. i hope you'll read this

do you recommend it for shooting pictures?? is it also powerful in shooting pictures?

Panasonic GX85 it’s the best for traveling videos..
Which lense do you use to film this with a nice depth of field?
I have a small collection of vintage lenses, as well as my wide angle and kit lens; talked about them in the video.
It looks awesome! With the shallow depth of field
doesn't the recording limit go away when switch from mp4 to avchd?
Doesn't go away afaik, just extends the length since AVCHD is limited to 1080p and the lower 1080p bitrate takes longer to hit that 4GB split target
Great review pal, helped me make my decision in getting this camera :)
Thanks for watching!
Great review. Do you think this would be a good video camera to shoot Stock Video to sell on the web?
For perfect glitch free joining of 4k files, you must join them 1st before putting them on a timeline. Use the free software "My MP4Box GUI" and select the join tab. Hey! would you recommend this 📷 for shooting a short film? I have a T3I, but I want to upgrade.
Yes!
What's the computer featured? Custom made?
Between G7 and G85, which one is better?
Great video! I also used g7 and g6 before that! Panasonic g7 is great little camera!!!

Looks amazing. Also I love Nikon lens
IS that mod mic actually good?
You heard it yourself
can it do slow mo in 240 FPS?
No. only goes to 60.
Does this camera have a higher framerate option?
1080p60 is the only high fps option
EposVox Ahh alright. thanks. What would you recommend for higher framerate but good quality?
Never really looked into slowmo stuff, sorry.
Cryo 25FPS while filimg in 4K and 50FPS while filming in Full-HD :)
TeVi There is a video on youtube showing how to unlock 30fps 4k with your PAL camera. :)
How exactly do you compensate for the dropped frames
It doesn't exist on amazon(Canada) or any camera store :/
Does Minolta camera still available
Which one is best for best photography?
Lumix g7 or canon 1500D?
The Canon

I'm thinking about upgrading and I'm really grateful for this video. If you had to buy a budget camera today, what would it be?
I just bought another G7 off eBay for a second one/backup/etc. There's still not really anything else that beat the value.
EposVox I will certainly look into it! I'm still using a Canon LEGRIA HF R706. .. lol
Also the record time is not an issue...who records for an hour straight?
Family gatherings, events, broadcast events, long videos, anything. Lots of people do.
Thanks for the review. What format can you film 4K in on the G7?
MP4 (I believe just H264) for 4k.
It's good for do photos?
Could you use this camera with an encoder to stream ?
Yes, it has clean HDMI out

You can buy dummy batteries to run off wall power and there's an option to disable auto-shutoff

Just look up your lens and see what mount it is. I.e. my Helios 44-2 russian lens is a "M42" mount, so I get that adapter
EposVox I SEE said the blind man
Cool beans, I'll look into it thanks!
Just curious, do you edit out all your breath marks from your VOs, or do you have it gated?
The microphone itself has noise rejection, so technically gated even though it's not a direct decision. Breaths are picked up, just very quietly.
How long does it record continuously?
30 minutes
EposVox thanks
If you want the gh5 why don't you sell your current 3 cameras and just get it?
"3 current cameras"
Err, wat.
Well I had a T3i and a G7, I sold the T3i to buy another G7. no combination of those would equal the cost of a GH5, I still need multiple cameras (G7 would be a backup cam to GH5), and selling them all to buy a GH5 would mean a lot of downtime without a camera at all, which I can't afford.
none of it is that simple or works out that way
from the video quality itself, is this better than the gh4 if you ignore pro/advanced features
No
Can you tell the details of the difference between this and the GH4 and GH5. Trying to decide on a good cinematic filming camera. I know those are better but this looks great too. There are so many models to compare it to. I also was leaning towards the a6500 and A7sii
How does this compare to the FZ300, is it a step up or down?
What would be a good zoom lens to match the camera up to for travel video? Everyone raves about the matchup to the Sigma Art lenses, and at $600 or so I'd pony up if I thought it was worth it, but the lens doesn't seem idea for travel given its size and weight, especially as I'm just taking a lightweight tripod with me - I don't exactly want to lug my regular one along as I'll be trekking through the Himalayas for over a month!
I have G7, but my video is limited - only 20mins. Is there a way to make it 29, 59 ? Thanks in advance.
Very cool. I just ordered mine, can't wait for it to arrive, becuase I've very much outgrown my old camera, a galaxy S7.
What`s about 422 out? Any certain info????
Now that the g7's aren't on sale, still worth the buy at 800$?
They go on sale all the time. I'd wait. If paying 800, might as well make the bump to 1k for a use GH4 IMO
Thanks for the fast response, if im leaving for a trip in 7-9 weeks, do you think it will come back on sale? Thanks for advice!!!
No clue about predicting it, but I'd hold out at least a couple. Check for 4th of july and other silly sales
no at 800 the G81/G85 is a better option.
One question, please. Does your camera (G7) have time limit to shooting video in 4K? The european version has a limit of 30 minutes. I heard that US version does not have this limit. Is it true?
It has the same limit
Hey EposVox,
Did you ever send in your G7 for repair? And if so, was the experience good? Any info would be great. Thanks.
- Paul
I sent it in around Thanksgiving and they still have it. It's been an *awful* experience thus far - but that's primarily to do with the warranty department.
They told me it was fine to send in and in warranty, then when they went to inspect it, I got a call asking for a $75 inspection fee plus however much to actually repair. Took a MONTH of fighting them on 3 different communication methods before they found and fixed my 3 year warranty extension I sent in last year. They're just now fixing it this week, waiting on parts to come in.
So if you're w/in 1 year warranty, you're good. If you got a confirmation about warranty extension (I never got one and didn't think about needing it) then you should be good. but otherwise..... good luck.
Hey EposVox,
Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for your reply. That sounds horrible! I will keep that in mind when considering purchasing one of their cameras, as that seems really frustrating. I watched your recent videos, and thought it was cool you bought another G7 vs. the RED fad for RUclipsrs.

hi...are you sure the g7 support external rec with 4.2.2 ?
Yep! It exports 4:2:2 8-bit UHD video via HDMI. Only records 4:2:0 internally.
Got rid if this and got a Sony A6300. I love the G7 and hold a special place in my heart but the AF system and the Fat32 file format got annoying
I kinda feel left behind because my only 4k video recording device is my iPhone haha. Should I be fine if I don't have any dedicated 4k cameras for a while?
4K isn't necessary. Solid 1080p, or just good camera work in general, beats most of what's on YT any day
Alright, good, because it feels like everyone is quickly hopping into the 4k train and I just barely started doing 1080p 60 fps!
Just need Micro Four Thirds adapters
Ok cool i search that out thanks do you know any brand names off hand? Awesome video by the way! I love th G7 the picture is awesome!
Thanks. Usually the adapters are just generic brands - Fotodix, Roxsen, etc.
still rockin the 600d.. def gonna focus on an upgrade soon tho glass is the primary objective atm
BrashTix same here
Is it durable?
Any recommendations of where you'd look to buy used? Anywhere reputable?
I normally just do eBay, Craigslist, or local FB groups
well counts me out i dont want a camera with a time limit while recording.... do you knwo if the gh5 has that dumb timelimet trash on it.. i want to use it for live streaming and filming friends sets when they play live and dont want a time limit
Hi all the Panasonic - G7 is now $499, and LUMIX GX85 is $599 both are in sale, I am looking for a low light / lunar photography camera, please let me know which one would be good?
9876karthi GX85 it’s much better for photography and video
Can i use this to live stream or maybe a work around that will let me do so with maybe an algato?
Yep! It has raw HDMI out which works perfectly w/ the Elgato CamLink or other capture cards!
Thanks for the fast reply and i've done a lot of research tonight and yours was one of the best videos so liked and subscribed
Can you use the microphones you recommend with the mic input of the g7?
I have the same Quality Control issue...im gonna try to exchange it for a new one, it cuts out videos etc.
A very comprehensive review. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Oh one more thing! Currently have a Lexar 64gb, 95 mb/s card. Good enough?
It might struggle, I'd look into at least a 1000x or ideally a 2000x speed card
Thinking about getting it as a b cam to the g9 if it gets a cheaper in like a year a so, because the image sould look pretty similar on them and i can use my lenses for it!
