Note: Thunderbolt 3.0 Cables/Ports are compatible with usb-c ports you just wont get the speeds of thunderbolt. Likewise using a usb-c cable (non-thunderbolt) on a thunderbolt port may limit the speeds and/or power capabilities for charging.

Watching an ad while i type this lol
why in hell this isn't the first video that pops up when you search for thunderbolt?
Saw it too, I finished it and went “what the fuck”
It is
This was so much more informative they everything else I just watched on the subject. Good work.
This is probably the tenth video I've watched on the subject and is by far the best. Thank you!
Just spent about an hour googling the information explained in this video and only finally understood after watching. Thank you
Hands the best, most succinct, visual, and nicely compact explanation of the USB-C vs Thunderbolt for laymen like me.
Easily the quickest and simplest explanation of this topic I’ve seen. Thanks!
Dude this was amazing - super well thought out and explained, thanks for the info!
Not the first video I have watched on USB C vs Thunderbolt 3 - but it certainly is the last. Great stuff!
YOU ARE AMAZING! I JUST NEEDED THAT TABLE!
GOD BLESS YOU DUDE. JUST KEEP SHARE THIS TYPE OF KNOWLEDGE MORE N MORE
i watched few videos, but this is the first, information on the point and now i think i understand it :D thank you :)
thanks for such a straightforward and clear explanation!
Got yourself a sub, pal
OUTSTANDING explanation, no nonsense
Thanks for this break down bro, was very confused on USB Type C transfer speeds, would like to see a video on comparing different brand cables and their comparative speeds ! I'm going to buy your recommended USB Type C cable to see if it solves a freezing problem with this new elgato facecam, thanks again !!!
Thanks👍👍👍👍 This is just what everyone needs to know and not get mixed up again!
Great job Explaining it. Thank you, now I'm a little bit more educated on this subject!
This was great. Straight to the point!
Straightforward sensible information . Thank you .
WP dude, I understood the difference within first 20 seconds!
This is the best video. Why isn’t this the first video suggestion.
I learn more on this 3 minute video
video then the whole RUclips videos out there thank you sir :)
Super helpful! Thanks. Helps me make my decision on which monitors to invest in. BENQ PD2725U (Thunderbolt 3) vs Dell U2723QE (UsB C).
this helped me a lot men thank you
Best video explaining it !!! Thank you !
Clearly received! Thank you
So clear now, thanks!
Thanks for clearing that up.
Nothing to say more than Thank You bro.
very good video, better then all other i watched
This is helpful info, thanks
Now I get it! Thank you 🙏🏻
Good explanation. Subscribed.
Thanks for the information bro.
I have more than 25 diferrent USB--C cables and an SSD extreme pro and some cables are up to speed and some are just are plain ripe off. Thanks for this video and wake people up that a cable is not only a cable anymore like the monster cables that are suppose to pass sound better.. I got 30MB/s on a 120$ cable from apple and 1384MB/s from a cable that came in the box with the original pixel phone. Thanks for the info and now we got to watch out for cables we buy.
perfectly succinct! thank you!
Why the hell this guy has only 15k Subcribers ?? . Since a month i was searching to undersand this . So many other youtubers made it so complex and wasted lot of my time. This guy just spend 3 mins time and cleared all confusion in no time and saved lot of my time. Wish i got this video before in youtube search and could have saved my time. Thanks millions for your video bro .❤🙏
Clear! Thank you
There is a channel called "GamingScan" and their video about this topic is horrible. And yours is amazing!
great video much informations
Wish I can subscribe 10x.. thanks so much
good work
Thank you!
Didn't know I didn't know this, but I guess in hindsight my mind registered thunderbolt as lightening and filed it with apple's proprietary connector.
Honestly, usb-c isn't prevalent enough in thing within my budget to be super familiar with. Now if we're talking micro-b, I'm all over it.
Likewise, I associated Thunderbolt with apple which is actually "lightning".
"hello everyone, this is your daily dose of internet". Kinda similar..
WHY DOESN'T THIS HAVE MILLIONS OF VIEWS, WHEREAS OTHER FUCKALL VIDEOS WITH TONS OF CONFUSING INFORMATION ACCUMULATE MILLIONS OF VIEWS?!
Thanks
Just clear my mind
I have a 2019 macbook pro 16". Is a LaCie Thunderbolt drive necessary or regular LaCie. Does speed come from drive and cpu
Nice thanks
Would love to see both of them tested using external gpu's
I found a cable on Aliexpress that have 2 versions, one of them is for thunderbolt 3 and have emark chip, what i wanna know is this cable work with normal usb 3.1 of only on thunderbolt 3?
2:10 I have a dock that delivers 130 watts to my laptop. It works on thunderbolt 3, so is that 100W true?
👍 thank U
USB 3.1 also supports having a hub connected so that multiple devices (Display, Power, storage, etc.) can be connected to one port.
Only 1 display
Can you charge the MacBook by a battery 🔋 pack via the thunderbird port
So if I buy an optical Thunderbolt 3 cable, and use it on a 3.2 Gen 2 port and hub, I should get 10 Gbps speeds?
But how to get full screen on 16:9 TV since smartphones of today are 18:9 resolution upwards
All Cable manufactures should be forced to label all their cables to what they actually are - what I see from this video is that just because it is USB-C the actual speed is a mystery when purchasing. Looks like that little tidbit of information opens the door to some loose advertisement of products - I am already seeing lots of cables advertised as Thunderbolt 3 compatible which I am guessing is that the compatibility means that the end fits in the USB-C socket. Now we have Thunderbolt 4 which I see is now being advertised the same way.
Just think about the SD card labeling for products. I stood by and listened to a Bestbuy salesman try to explain the markings on a SD card to a customer, it was actually quite funny - the customer asked really good questions to the point of the sales guy getting confused and ended up telling the customer to buy the most expensive card, saying that it is probably expensive because it is the best.
The cable and hub industry looks like it is heading that way as well.
Clear
That is all good to know about USB C vs Thunderbolt 3 ,,, ,but ,,,,
Can be charged Laptops that have USB Type C (3.1-3.2) ???
or only if it is with Thunderbolt 3 .
I just subscribed.
I really a newbie at this computer stuff.
But I like to do video editing.
Can you please tell me
Since I want to build or have a computer built.
Can I get or use this Thunderbolt with an AMD processor and Asus motherboard.
Thank you
Keith
You can either try to find a motherboard that has thunderbolt already in its back io or you can buy a separate thunderbolt card that you can install in the pci ports.

Thank you so much for a direct straight answer I really appreciate that.

Have a old iMac with Thunderbolt 1, got a thunderbolt cable, got a Thunder bolt 3 to Thunderbolt adapter and a Samsung T5 SSD. Connected the iMac to the cable which connected to the adapter which I then connected to the SSD. It does not work (the power light on the SSD does not come on). If I connect the SSD via the iMac USB then it does. Trying to get 10Gbps via Thunderbolt. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like a faulty adapter to me if its not getting power while plugged into it.
Can someone tell me if Daisy Chain is possible with USB 3.2 Type-C Gen 1, too?
So, should I buy a thunderbolt cable and replace the stock type c cable charger that came with my S9 ? Great video BTW
The phone will still only be able to charge at whatever rate they limited it to, I think its somewhere around 10-15W for the S9, so if your charger it came with is already providing that much power you're all set.
@@MaxsTech but when I use it for data transfer with my laptop, it's gonna be faster?
@@user-jm6gp2qc8x Yes, the S9 uses usb 3.1 so as long as your computer has a 3.1 or 3.2 slot you are using it should transfer data faster, compared to the typical usb 2.0/3.0 ports
Hello Max, I have a laptop that doesnt have a usb c port. It only has a usb and hdmi. On the other hand, I have a thunderbolt 3. What connector or adapter do I need to connect these two devices?
You will need to find a USB A to USB C adapter, but you'll be limited to the speed of your laptops USB ports.
What makes a type-C connector a type-C isn't that it can be plugged in either way. There are a bunch of different type-B connectors and the one thing they all have in common is they plug into the device that is told what to do by the thing plugged into the other end of the cable which is a type-A connector. Type-C is type-C because it is supposed to be suitable for peer to peer
Can USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C support an eGPU
Can we connect a monitor thru thunderbolt port like in Manchester mini?
Mac mini
I love this
Extremely simple
Please explain thunderbolt 4 sir!
I really dont understand this:
I have a PC with thundebolt logo. I used a normal USB C cabel to a adapter with a end as C and A. Non worked to charge my laptop. Is it neccesary i need a thunderbolt Cable also for make it charge?
If your using an adapter or any other stuff your speed/power will be limited by the lowest performing part. So likely that regular usb c cable you’re using is not rated for high power for charging.
So, which keywords should I avoid when purchasing one to avoid getting the slowest one?
Some advertisers might hype the fact that it’s “USB C!” But that doesn’t tell you anything about speed. So just check which usb standard it’s running, ideally 3.0 or greater.
Question...If I have a Thunderbolt 3 cable....can I us it as a USB C cable?
Yea, any USB-C cable will work. You can plug USB-C devices into thunderbolt ports. Thunderbolt cables are USB-C cables.
0:51 - Just for clarity, the connector on the right is *not* a USB B connector.
Micro B, the most common version of usb B
So I'm looking at a Dell laptop to buy and it's usb c gen 2 with support for dp and powerdelivery, does that mean i can use a dock or not ?
A usb c dock? Yea that should work just fine
@@MaxsTech thanks
Hello, how can I contact you? I need you to make a video.
Commenting on my videos is a good way :)
Can I charge my laptop on thunderbolt 3 port? I normally use the usb-c port
Yes
PLEASE HELP ME. Can the Huawei laptops (matebook d 15 for example) use a USB type c to connect to a monitor and charge at the same time?
Thank you, ?!
Can thonderbolt cable connect to usb port? Is it function?
Yes
Will a Thunderbolt 3 hard drive work on my USB-C computer?
It depends, you may be limited on speeds if you plug into a slower speed usbC port. Some functionality can be lost too, but for an external drive it should likely work just not at the thunderbolt 3 speeds.
Is it possible to connect my USB C (not thunderbolt) laptop to a monitor?
As long as your laptop supports it and you have the correct cable, absolutely.
If it isn't thunderbolt on the laptop, it will only charge and transfer data, not video.
Hello guys,
Can someone please help me? I have an hp envy x360 convertible 15-cn0XXX.
I really want to game but the video card is too bad... so I bought a Omen by HP GA1-1000 accelerator shell and of course a good video card. I tried everything to connect them but I can’t. It says that you need a USBc with thunderbolt, but I don’t have thunderbolt... is there any way to still connect them? Or to make the usbc into a thunderbolt? Please can someone help?
Thank you!
Unfortunately if you want to run an external graphics card from a laptop it requires a connection that has a high speed connection (like thunderbolt), normally the card is plugged directly into the PCI-e ports on the motherboard, but since thunderbolt came out, the speeds are high enough to actually transfer all the data the graphics card processes. The thunderbolt chip will be built into your laptops motherboard so there is no way to add it.
I think I have it straight... USB C is the type of plug and socket.
USB 3.1, USB 3.2, Thunderbolt, Thunderbolt 1, 2, 3, etc is the speed of that socket and I would need the correct cable to match that socket. My computer has a USB 3.1 port (10 Mbps), with a Thunderbolt (10Mbps) charger. If I buy a cable for a Thunderbolt 3 device , it will "fit" my USB "C" (3.1 speed) socket but will only run at 10 Mbps instead of the Thunderbolt 3 speed of 40 Mbps correct?
Yup, it'll run at the standard of the socket in that case but you can use that cable on any USB c port.
*Interesting how the tech industry made USB naming complicated.*
Why they needed someone like Steve Jobs who simplified things.
Are all USB type C have the same "conector" ??
They all take the same shape, and work in the same ports, but different versions of USB-C run at different speeds
@@shahtayyib thanks
Is it a thunderbolt cable or we use normal usb c cable?
Thunderbolt 3 is a usb C cable. They use the same connector as USB 3.2
Sounds like the guy from daily dose of internet
So all the ultrabooks who only have USB-C Lightning bolt ports don't really need an HDMI port. So why do reviewers complain that they lack HDMI?
If its a single usb c port it can be annoying that you wouldn't be able to charge your laptop while plugging in other stuff without having to go purchase an expensive dock
Nice video but I couldn’t help to notice that you’re still confused about speed units:
1. USB 2.0 run at 480 MB/s (read MegaBytes/s) which can also be express as 3.84 Gb/s (read Gigabits/s). USB 3.0 run at 625MB/s or 5Gb/s.
USB C can run up to 10Gb/s or 1250MB/s (aka double the speed of usb 3.0).
Just to be clear: 8 bits = 1Byte
2. You show a micro USB instead of a USB type B in this video. USB type B are commonly used for printers.
I think you are confusing usb 3.1/3.2 with type c. Type c has no speed standard, you can have slow and fast usb type c. Its only a physical connection standard.
Also that is a micro usb type B, a more common type B but still a type B none the less
Usb 3.2 gen 2 is the 10 Gbps standard.
Where usb 2.0 is 480 Mbps (bits) which is only 60 MBps (bytes)
What happens if I plug a USB device into a Thunderbolt port? What happens if I plug a Thunderbolt device into USB-C?
It will be limited to its speed. So a thunderbolt device plugged into a USB port can only run at USB speeds.

you sound like the guy from Daily Dose Of Internet
I've heard that a lot recently lol I've never heard him! I'll have to check it out
Who is using what…?
0:47 that is not usb-b
That is usb micro B. I used that since most people are more familiar with it.
you made this way more confusing, is a thunderbolt 3 and usb c the same thing? that's what you said? I'm so confused.
Its not an "either/or" question. Thunderbolt is a technology data standard, while usb c is purely a physical standard. All usb c means is the physical type of connector (the one you can plug in either way) you can have usb-c that are thunderbolt and some that are not.
Similar if you asked if hot wings are wings. Yes, but not all wings are hot, but all hot wings are wings. Not all usb-c connectors are thunderbolt 3 but all thunderbolt 3 connections use usb-c as their connector.
@@MaxsTech Question...If I have a Thunderbolt 3 cable....can I us it as a USB C cable?
@@TheGregWallace Yup!
Way way too fast speech, slow it down for impact
Apple and Intel
You may be thinking of apples lightning connector. Can be confusing but thunderbolt is different. They need to think of some more distinct names haha
