It's crazy to read about the development of this game.
The money spent, change of engines, development restarts.
Clearly it was all worth it.
For a studio known solely for taking old games and giving them some of the best underrated remasters around, you guys hit it out of the park with your first actual scratch-built game, successfully bringing a classic whose control scheme had not aged well into the modern era!
The enhanced edition of the original SS1 was actually the very first time I managed to make it through the game, Doom and Duke3d really spoiled me...
You guys deserve every 10/10 you get and not just for system shock but for putting the old classics to modern systems and consoles. You gentlemen are simply genius and i thank you for everything!

An Enhanced Edition should be fine enough. It likely won't get a rebalance, but visually I think it looks like they're handling it well.

@@aiodensghost8645 there are rebalance mods for that, it's very unlikely they will change anything unless it is an outright bug, in fact the game will ship with all the bugfixes the shock community has already found and fixed, and hopefully, fingers crossed, full mod compatibility with the extended Newdark version of the game that was released by a mysterious hacker.
They had been consulting with the mod community at the very beginning, so hopefully all their feedback and concerns will have all been taken on board and we will get the very best possible version of the game, I very much doubt they will skimp effort on the game that essentially is the reason the company exists in the first place.
This is not a game. This is a manual on how to do a remake.

Backed the game in 2016, my senior year of high school. I'm 2 years out of college, and now I'm finally able to play it, and I would do it all over again. Superb game and superb devs.

The release version had a few progress breaking bugs that are now fixed but I am the target audience for this game, having played the original in the 90's and I must say this is my game of the year. I just finished it last week.

those dumbasses mention "stays true to the original" as a negative...
A bunch of journos got filtered by the fact that there aren't an infinite amount of health packs and you have to actually remember were you need to go yourself.
Also, can't wait for System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition! Haven't played the original since 2017, but am holding out for the EE!
Nightdive absolutely deserved it! The amount of talent, time and effort being put into it is just IN-SANE !
Especialy when modern AAA releases tend to fall flat or be broken at launch, these guys are making one of the most unique and well-crafted game we had in recent years!

I waited a long time for this. backed it way back when. when it started to go pear shaped (you know when nightdive, i remember those "re imagined modern graphics"), i was horrified. Kudos for taking a step back, rethinking about the vision and giving us what we wanted. I cannot stress that enough.
Finished it a day ago - amazing. Thank you to Nightdive for making this a reality.

They said the port is running smoothly just need to iron things out and get it certified. Could be a couple months at least. Maybe more.
Actually there are a lot to be criticized in this game, but compared to what games have been generally praised lately, that's a masterpiece indeed.

System Shock 2 remake please!
I played the Enhanced Edition a few years ago and it was awesome when it clicked. But this remake is amazing! Up there with Dead Space and RE4 this year for me and incredible remakes. Really hope you guys are planning SS2 next!

Limited to console and a low spec laptop at the moment, please port this to console. I adore System Shock 2 and similar games like Prey, Alien Isolation and Dead Space

Seems a little self-indulgent, but I'll allow it. The remake is *really* good. I would love to see a reworked ending, some QoL changes (Recycling, looking at you) and minor weapon adjustments before I call this "The best remake" though. It's splendid, but it's got some big holes I'd like you to plug, given the opportunity.
That said, congratulations on managing this monumental task on such a tiny crew. I know you all worked hard and the fact that you got this far at all is kind of a miracle. Huge congrats and thank you for making an old fart like me relive his childhood in modern splendour

I can't imagine the teamwork and frustration while going through development necessary to take on such a daunting task, switching engines, all the while with absolutely massive shoes to fill in doing justice to the legacy. Not only do we now have a fantastic and FAITHFUL re-envisioning of System Shock, but you now have a wonderfully delightful framework within UE at your disposal, so here's to bigger and better things for all of you!

Unfortunately, System Shock 3's rights disappeared into the Chinese black hole that is Tencent.
@@aiodensghost8645worst part is that nightdive gave ss3 to otherside entertainment (whos ceo is one of the original directors of ss1) who then sold it to tencent.

Played through this game twice already and planning on doing a 3rd and recording it for my channel just for fun. Absolutely amazing experience from beginning to end.
I do wish we had the option of scrapping fully-functioning weapons that we don't want though :P I'd like to empty them of their ammo and then be able to make some money off of them.

Congratulations guys, amazing work. A perfect mix between old and new. I think I'm half done with the game (never done System shock before) and tho I need some time to time to check item placement online (my sh*tty eyesight don't help) I'm having a blast and NOT having a marker that say where to go is a bit of a fresh feeling.
Imagine if those guys remake The Darkness. Man I would buy that in a heartbeat.
This is the only game that made me happy. I hope in a few years we will see an updated version on Unreal Engine 5

Good as hell. I loved SS2 back in the day, I got it as part of the Columbia House CD Rom Club back when that was a thing, or maybe I got it from Babbages, memory is a little fuzzy on that. Really enjoyed that game. I tried the original game several years later and it was too clunky, I figured it would have been best enjoyed back then. Thanks for modernizing it and making it much easier to consume for those that missed out on the original back then, helluva game!
You guys did an amazing job with the game! Runs well looks great, performs well, no crashing, next to no bugs. y'all be putting AAA studios to shame. I only wish other devs can bring this level of optimisation to the table with future games.

I purchased it, and it clearly outshines my every expectation. Immersive, thought-provoking, not too helpful, so it needs a little bit of brainwork to play. Survival, but the gunplay is satisfying enough to give those cyborgs bullet rain. The main strenghts are the lore, the story, the setting, level and weapon design. The circuit board minigames are the best of the kind, as they are accomodates into the settiing seamlessly. (As an electrician, never used any Logic Probes). The graphics have a little bit of retro touch, just enough to honor the original. Runs nicely, although I encountered a fatal error once, but since you can quicksave (best for a father of two, who can pause and save at any given moment). I suspect that the bogies design followed the original, but I think some of them looks hilarious, thus breaking the immersion a little bit. I am waiting for your studio to collaborate with Square Enix about a Deus Ex reboot ;)
All in all, the game suits everyone who loves survival thriller games and slow, patient gameplay.
Every one of those accolades is well deserved. That tough decision to pause and refocus the remake was absolutely the right move, the result is _awesome_. I genuinely wish you the best of luck for a commercial success, I'd love to see System Shock 2 get the same treatment!

I've always tried to play the original, but even the enhanced edition felt too obtuse for me. It's not just the controls, it's also the menus, the almost unreadable (for my myopic eyes anyway) text... It just didn't click for me.
I played and fell in love with SS2, however, a love that's still going strong all these years (and a couple of playthroughs) later. I'm looking forward to the enhanced edition, it'll be the perfect excuse to play it again.
Meanwhile, I didn't take part in the kickstarter, but this remake sounded very interesting to me, so I pre-ordered it as soon as I could. The long wait, instead of discouraging me, just made me more eager to play the damn thing.
I'm currently playing it (yes, I'm very slow with my games), and it's honestly even more fun than I was hyped for. If I had to say one negative thing about this game, I can only think of how I'd like to have a difficult level where I didn't have the time limit, but was still forced to turn off the cyborg bays on a level to avoid a game over - a brilliant mechanic I'm deprived of, because there's no way I'll take less than twenty hours for a first playthrough.
Other than that, you deserve every one of these accolades twice over.
