Early 90's Spurs were bankrupt. A take over war between Maxwell v Sugar was taking place. Sugar won ( thank god,) Sold to Enic circa 2000. Levy appointed Chairman. Boastful statement, from Chairman about 5 yr plan to get us back to our former glory. Well Mr Levy it took 20yrs + but what you have achieved for THFC deserves the highest respect and I for one thank you for your service to the club.

If he gets his fingers out of the day to day (which it looks like he has been credit to him), he is actually a VERY good chairman and owner. I'd rather a local boy and a lifelong Spurs fan who has been a fan longer than I have been alive, own the club, rather than some oil money or investor who will use the club as either an ego statement or an ATM.

@@JC-kz3ut Daniel Levy doesn't own Spurs, Joe Lewis & ENIC do.
As a Chelsea fan I used to love the fact we'd see our club owner, Abramovich, at almost every game & even academy games.
There's nothing like having an owner who is owning the club for no other reason than he loves doing it. There's no worrying the owner might want to milk the club one day, no worrying that the club puts money above everything else.
Since Abramovich left in 2022 people have realised just what Abramovich did for Chelsea & just how lucky the Chelsea fans were to have him for 2 decades.

Daniel Levy has received alot of criticism over the years for the lack of sporting success, which is understandable from passionate fans. However, you have to acknowledge the incredible job he has done in developing the club's facilities and financial solidity! In my opinion, these structural foundations and the brilliant recruitment of Ange Postecoglu and other, less prominent staff will soon bring in the silverware the club yearns for. THFC is now rock solid and playing an exciting brand of football. We've recently seen new recruits turn down Barcelona and Bayern Munich, preferring to come to us, which is a clear sign of our attractiveness. I predict a 1st trophy by the end of next season at the latest. COYS!

You simply cannot compare Spurs with Chelsea when it comes to building a new stadium. Chelsea are situated in an area of London where property & land is among the most expensive in the country. For many years everybody was adamant a 60,000 stadium simply couldn't be built on the 12.5 acres of Stamford Bridge (SB). The ground is hemmed in by London underground track on one side, railway track on another side, & all spectators have to exit from the stadium onto one road, the Fulham Rd.
Then Abramovich found architects that managed to design a 60,000 stadium on the current site. If the UK government hadn't revoked Abramovich's business visa in 2017 then Chelsea would today be playing in their brand new 60,000 seater stadium. The two forms of planning permission had been granted, every issue with the railways had been sorted, there was just a right-of-light issue with two local residents to sort out & an agreement with Wembley to play there for three, possibly four, seasons to be finalised.
Anyway, we are where we are. A new stadium on the site of SB will cost the new owners as much as £2 billion. One positive is the club has been successful in purchasing 2.5 acres of extra land immediately adjacent to the west side of the stadium at a cost of £80m. Another positive factor is how both the local council & the London Mayor are both very supportive of Chelsea building a new stadium. Without their support it would be almost impossible to stay at SB.

    • @lauriewright388
      @lauriewright388 9 месяцев назад +1

Bullshit, before abramovich, chelski were bankrupt, and I can remember evening cup games at Stamford bridge entertaining 12,000 fans.
      A long way short.

    • @danniwilder2198
      @danniwilder2198 8 месяцев назад

@@lauriewright388 What is? Exactly what did I say that is bullshit? The answer....nothing. Every word I said about Abramovich & his proposed new stadium is 100% true & accurate. What I said about the 12.5 acre site of Stamford Bridge is correct, what I said about the new stadium plans under Abramovich are correct, what I said about the railway lines & what I said about the Mayor's office & the local council is correct.
And no, Chelsea were not bankrupt & not even close to being bankrupt just prior to Abramovich arriving in 2003.
It is true the club was in a difficult financial situation & they were no longer in a position to spend the kind of money they had been doing for the previous 6 or 7 years. In summer 2002 the club couldn't afford to spend any money on new players & were only able to bring one player in on a loan.
However, in that summer of 2002 Barcelona were pushing hard to get Chelsea to sell Hasselbaink for £20m. But Ken Bates refused to sell him. What's more they hadn't been forced to sell any of their players prior to Abramovich arriving. Don't you think that if the club was facing bankruptcy they would have been forced to sell some players to raise some cash? If they were facing bankruptcy then Bates would have sold Hasselbaink for the £20m Barcelona were offering. It's simple logic.
12,000 fans at the Bridge? Yeah, that's right. In fact 12,000 was the average attendance in 1982/83. That's the lowest in Chelsea's history.
12,000 is small, I grant you, but at least it's three times bigger than Arsenal's smallest average attendance for a season. In fact Arsenal had 2 seasons with an average of 4,000 & a whole decade of never getting more than 10,000 average.
Man Utd also had seasons where they averaged 4,000 & whole decades of not getting more than an average of 7,000.
Liverpool once averaged 5,000 over a season.
Spurs once averaged 13,000 over a whole season.
Finally....Chelsea have had 12 separate seasons where they had the biggest support in the country, the biggest average gate.
Only 4 other clubs have had more than 12 seasons with the biggest support in the country.
Oh, & Arsenal literally did go into bankruptcy during their history whereas Chelsea never have.

Levy gets lots of criticism and sometimes rightfully so, but i do respect the man. No success can be built on a shaky ground. His deals are really looking into bigger picture. Ange is doing qmazing job and I am sure the moment Ange started speaking, it was a done deal. However, levy gave a listen.

You just never know what's around the corner in this life. For example, didn't the Spurs owner & boss of ENIC recently get criminally indicted in America? I haven't got a clue whether whatever happens to him will affect Spurs or not. But regardless of that, who knows who the owners of Spurs will be in 10, 20, yrs time, & this applies to every club.
You mentioned debt, aren't Spurs currently in debt to the tune of approx £700m?
As a Chelsea fan I'm waiting to see what's going to happen with regard to a new stadium at Stamford Bridge. If & when this might happen, & with a cost of as much as £2b, I'm hoping our new owners don't burden the football club with huge debt.
This was the beauty of Roman Abramovich, he had promised the new stadium would be funded completely separately from the club. It would have most likely been funded by Abramovich himself. If he can write-off a £1.5b debt in one stroke then he could fund the £2b cost of a new stadium. It was never to be , sadly.

I hate that we haven't focused more on cup competitions, but Its always been the long game for the club to build feasibly from the ground up. But most fans are keen to see how all this translates to pitch success and - yes- silverware.
Hard to say based on ENICs KPI’s (eg FA Cup or Champions League qualification)- but based on FFP rules and the need to be self sustaining vs a sugar daddy to float us (Chelsea, City, Newcastle), we may soon bear the fruits of being on the inside track to FFP sustainability through the stadium.
Couple that with global influence (Son in Korea, NFL from the States), we could be looking at a very exciting 2020s

Levy’s a great businessman, even Spurs fans who hate him can’t deny that. As clubs receiving point reductions for FFP violations, Levy’s business philosophy now has our club in great position!
We know on pitch hasnt led to winning PL, CL/Europa, or cup competition “ Yet”! The potential over next 2+ years is limitless: transfer windows & team finally having strong depth to really compete/challenge PL, CL/Europa, & domestic cups. The potential for 2025 and beyond the time Tottenham are the top team in PL & Europe.
As fans we can only hope recent streak of acquiring new players continue along with Ange making few minor adjustments so his game/AngeBall can truly flourish! Ange’s streak of winning titles wherever he’s coached continues too
I know: no One has to say it. All Spurs fans have felt we have a bright future ahead before, and the team …… I’m not saying it’s guaranteed to happen, a lesson we all have learned many times. Hopefully after 20+ years, good people in front office & Paratici as a consultant, Levy finally achieves Success ON & Off the Field/Pitch !!!!

My Bad! I meant to say “ Levy has only Achieved only the 1 league cup 🏆 “.
My comment was long enough, and speaking to other Spurs fans, I don’t need to explain how past history = Frustration.
But also in today’s “Win Now” & “What have you done lately” mentality. Success is still achieved, a 🏆 isn’t the only thing that a team can be called a success. That’s something I believe is important to remember and for younger generation to know! Media drives the 🏆= success, with YT channels that just support that mentality!
So many examples: but take Luton and their success over past 8 years, and if they manage to stay in PL next season that’s an amazing successful season.

My opinion, but Levy and Co. should, also, be praised for bluffing the local council of Haringey, who were not, originally, on board with the idea of changing stadiums even though the new stadium would be built in,, almost, the exact same location as the old ground , instead of moving elsewhere within or away from the borough of Haringey. Spurs said they were prepared to move away from the Borough to East London into The London Stadium, which was empty after the 2012 Olympics when it was created. The threat worked as the locals would have been in uproar and granted Spurs their much sought-after permission to start work. West Ham moved into The London Stadium but I'm sure Spurs never had the slightest intention of leaving that area.

I know that D Levy has come in for lots of criticism over the years but he’s decision to build not just a stadium, but the best in the UK and one of the best in Europe. And now it’s beginning to pay off and hopefully it’s going to happen on the pitch sooner than later, and he’s never put the club in jeopardy yes he’s made mistakes but who doesn’t and it’s better the devil you know then one you don’t know just ask Everton supporters

There was never a question about Levy being great bussinessman. But with this kind of money product on a grass should be also about trophies every year and I dont believe Levy will ever invest enough to win on a regular basis.

@@mxsthxted What? What are you talking about, in a precarious position because of those long contracts? How do you work that one out? Putting young players on longer contract is much more likely to benefit the club & put them in a stronger position as the years go by. I don't see much risk for the club because of 7 & 8 yr contracts as opposed to 5 & 6 yr contracts.
The only way I can think of that you think puts Chelsea in a precarious position is if in a few yrs the club wanted to sell any of these players but that the player might refuse to be transferred & decide to sit out the remaining yrs of his contract & just pick up his wages.
How realistic is that though, how likely is it that a player of 24, 25, 26, yrs old & just coming into the prime yrs of his career is going to say they would rather stay at Chelsea & play no more football for the remaining yrs on his contract & just because he doesn't want to move to another club?
It's not the length of a player's contract that can make it difficult to sell a player on, it's high wages that does that. And none of the young players Chelsea have given long contracts to are on the really big salaries.

All those jumping on the isnt-Levy-a-genius bandwagon are simply being wise after the event - or non-event! It all looks wonderful now, but just consider the utter crap we've had to swallow as fans. It's all well and good being the richest club this side of Venus, but in the interim we've become synonymous with a dusty trophy cabinet, being nearly men and the infamous Spursy.. As fans, we've had to grow thick skins while our two biggest rivals prospered and zoomed past us.. We still showed massive loyalty when the Lane got taken away in skips and we were displaced at the quite awful Wembley. All along the way, as Levy got richer and richer, prices were raised till we had nosebleeds, and had to swallow a succession of egotistical managers who used every trick in the book to tell us our malaise wasn't their fault.. None of us should forget that, if we do become successful in the near future, exactly what our fan base has suffered since the ENIC regime began...

All that financial success, zero major trophies. It's like investing into a team that just lies and fails every year for its fans. At thie point. Harry Kane will have more silerware playing for Bayern before he retires than most of his career palying for the Spurs.
So my main point is. After all that financial success. where did the money go to? Will they buy some good players that at least become contenders for the Champions League? Or will Levy keep most of it?
