    I love these more old school tips. Most special tools or machine work aren’t really needed, if you’re good enough at careful work (I like to call it artisan work) you can do a lot of things yourself.

      @@CherezianRacing exactly,I've always been the guy rooting through the junkyard paying $75 for a motor rebuild it myself and hope I win some cash to buy a better motor,the only thing I've had to always spend money on was my roll cages because welding is beyond on iq level for some reason, and I don't want to die so I do buy my cages pre made

    Years ago (won’t say how many.....) we used what was called crocus cloth to polish cranks. Very seldom was one sent out. Nice looking job!!!

      I still use crocus cloth to polish crank journals on low budget dirt track engine builds..

    1) Silicon-carbide sandpaper is ready available in a lot finer grits than 600, I would use around 1000 next, after that, "crocus cloth" which is jeweler's rouge on a cloth backing in place of polishing compound.

    Very good work will help me do better at that and as sure you know sometimes you can get 001 or even .011 bearings to zero in on it from King bearings

    Gotta finish polishing mine tonight.mine wasn't that bad but I hit it with 800,1000,1500.gonna hit it with metal polish tonight and micro fiber cloth tonight.my press should be here friday.gotta press rods..030 over 360 going in a ramcharger

      @@AbgarMusayelyan gotcha, i will be in Glendale a few times next month. And not unless you can completely plug up the oil feed holes in the crank rod journal before start polishing. U cant get any debris in there or its game over. But chances are if your rod journals are tore up then so are your main journals.

    We run 600 micro sprints. Builder just called me last night and said we had a bad crank and it needs to be polished

    3/4 plywood shaped to a long handle split in the middle and a whole saw. One small hinge to open the polishing tool hahaha. Shit this is quick and easy. Good tip my friend.

    I have a briggs V-twin going to try this before scrapping it. bearing blew up. Journal has a bit of aluminum.

    Did you check for out of round before spending time to remove those deep grooves.

    Just a thought here, instead of electrical tape maybe use something wide like duck tape ( or duct tape if you prefer...) and cut that to fit just like t sandpaper. Kind of keeping it all equal like.

      Thanks! I still used the same bearing. No difference in clearance

      @@CherezianRacing btw do you recommend the balancing on this case my engine block will be stock just adders heads, cam intake etc .

      @@TubeInspireif its all the same stock rotating assembly no need for balancing. I do however recommend balancing the connecting rods/pistons. I have a video for that too

    Curios....how much material is coming off when you guys do this? Mine doesn't look bad, just need a quick going over. Guess I could plasi gage it before & after to see what happened. Also, I have a high volume oil pump with all new bearings cam included to go in wifes daily driver.

      No, the bearing shells will stay the same size.

    I say we just remove the bearing, glue a strip around the scored area, unplug the injecters and ignition coils and let err rip.

      Last time i had a turn and polish done at the machine shop it was $250

      Try Natural Light Ice, not bad for a cheap brew. Plus the Ice brews usually have a higher alcohol content in them so you don't have to drink as many.
      I personally don't like aluminum cans because aluminum is almost as unhealthy as mercury. It's supposed to be the number one cause of alzheimers and dimensa when you get older and as the aluminum builds up in the body.
      Plus I really don't think I'd like it in the can, that's why I'm a bottle baby. LOL

    Yeah.. don't do this.. take it to a machine shop.. I tried this years ago on a 350 crank.. just lightly polished just like this.. lost 20# of oil pressure cause you are loosing diameter and I went from .002 to .0025 and that was enough..

      You have to check clearances afterwards and change bearing sizes if needed to stay in spec.
