  • Just some thoughts on how I don't understand why some metalheads hate it when pop stars wear t-shirts of our favourite metal bands. And what do you think?

The 80s covered my late childhood as well as my teen years of listening to these classic bands and artists. To this day, I've never understood the "gatekeeping" in this genre. I want the legacy of these bands to live on through generations. I took two of my daughters to their first Maiden concert last year and it makes me smile to see them wearing their Eddie shirts.

The more exposure the better. Even within metal there is such variety!

@MP2 (Metal Pilgrim 2) - The reality is, you can beat 80s & 90s metal theme t-shirts, my sons who are fans wear them for school for elementary school...and lets face it, there are no good bands today or good music other than legacy bands. Even my sons admit their generation music sucks big time. Be proud our music is ageless...time is running out, our bands will not last forever.

To say that there is no good music "today" is to admit complete ignorance to the musical map.
While the top charts are dominated by pure garbage - which, let's not pretend it didn't make its way up high back in the last millennium - there are floods of good artists that aren't old.
Just pick your poison and dive in,there are plenty of sources, including the search function here on RUclips - there is good music,it just lies in wait.

Very good music out there today. Not as readily available in the U.S. unfortunately, unless you're looking for mumble rap, POP or new country music (which is horrible). It's out there, just requires a little extra effort. @@Stefan979-

@@Stefan979-completely agree! It’s just a bit lazy to say “there’s no good music these days”. I’m constantly amazed at the sheer number of new and diverse acts that are producing phenomenal output. And metal’s gaining new audiences. Whether you dismiss Sleep Token as a gimmick or not, there’s a metal act that has been adopted wholeheartedly by the TikTok generation. These days alternative indie/post punk acts are so varied in their music they could double up as metal acts - Black Midi anyone? Viagra Boys? Or Idles (who, by the way, drive a mosh pit harder than most metal bands!)? I know bands don’t really make any money by recording music anymore, so I try to go to see them live and buy merch to support them. And occasionally you might see me wearing my MP t-shirt too!

@@Stefan979- If you are the Albert Einstein of today’s music which are those bands that fill the stadiums and sell multi-platinum albums? The fact is, only a few 2000s bands have become relevant. Most of the music is box sound and not, noise is not music. There is a reason why legacy metal bands continue to dominate the airwaves and fill the stadium. Today’s music is filled by a bunch of ok but nothing special bands. Even some of the best 2000s band are late 1990s band like Avenged Sevenfold and Atreyu. I’m always looking for good music, the reality is new music is average at best like comparing Whitechapel mid 2000s v. Theatre of Tragedy (early 1990s), similar music but ToT is by far better. Best place to look for new blood is Metal Blade Records RUclips page.

@@juliancw1 - All average music. Making more noise does not make the band better. There is a distinction between actual talent and just ripping. Anyone can make noise but not everyone can make music. There is a reason those bands continue to play in pubs/bars and not filling stadiums.

I absolutely admire this video - who else riffs on non-metal heads wearing heavy metal t-shirts while going to the Post Office to send drones and batteries to the frontline??!! And then gets interrupted by the air raid warning! How metal can you possibly get??!! Love and support to you all in Ukraine from London 🤘🎸🤘

I very much doubt that some 15 year old boy/girl is gonna be turned on to Metal by seeing some big cat wearing a shirt or something, most just find it through other means - such as gaming, which was my case to an extent.
Now,wearing a Metallica or Maiden shirt is socially acceptable - they do are bands of collosal sizes,so I don't get why their fans act like band merch being worn by people that they assume are not "Metal" is desecration.
Now,if we talk underground Metal - which is usually in the extreme genres - ,then it is totally understandable from my point of view to criticize people wearing that clothing with no clue of what it is - don't try to be something you're not,be true to yourself.
That is to be a poser, the only weight that word holds.
To this day,I've only seen 2 people wearing Metallica shirts, and nothing more, which is understandable with my position in this corner of the Balkans.

The few that try to be the 'Gatekeepers of Metal' that Metal is only fir Metalheads need to seriously look at themselves. Metal, music in general is fir everyone. If someone that isn't a traditional Metalhead wants to wear a t-shirt then fair play to them. So they're not diehard fans. They didn't get into the genre or a band from day 1so what? Even if they jump in and out that's fine. The more exposure the better. Metal is never going to be mainstream. It's never going to lose its edge and we are always going to be the 'Black Sheep' of the music industry and society too. How many of these so-called 'Gatekeepers' listen to only Metal and nothing else? How many keep listening to and going to gigs when they get married (to a non-metalhead), become parents, age? There's enough hypocrisy in the world that we don't need it in our Metal community. I've been a Metalhead fir over 40 years and counting. I listen to different sub-genres of Metal as well as different genres of music. A wide and varied catalogue. I've introduced people to Metal and I've also seen metalheads go away as they said that was 'in their youth's. So come or go or come back again, METAL IS FIR ALL!🤘🏻🇬🇧🖤

Your talking out of your ass man. In the 80s the Metal Bands hat to hide their Keyboarders behind the stage on life-shows because the fans wouldn't tolerate electronic instruments on stage. And the reason why people became metalheads in the 80s and 90s is because they wanted to be in a special club of people parents told you to stay away from and you had to be able to take some heat for it too. Metal was never about tolerance and abundance, that came when the labels tried to monetize that kind of music, because mo' money.

Metal fans like metal. Posers suck because it’s just like our era of movies. They’re all being remade. Why do you think that is? Because 80’s were better. Duh.
