- Assassin's Creed is a transmedia franchise.
Meaning that each year, new AC stories are told across multiple platforms. And with the release of the recent comic series "Uprising" which is full of exciting stuff, we realized of important transmedia storytelling now was in the franchise.
And as it may be difficult to catch up with all the release, we decided to make this little guide to showcase all the products which are canon and part of the "Expanded Universe" of Assassin's Creed.
We hope this guide will help you and make you want to expand your AC experience! And the books/novels might actually tide you over until the release of the next Assassin's Creed game. ;-)

I remember the days all the way back when the AC Initiates site was still up and there was ongoing modern day story every so often. Those were the good days.
Thank you for making this. The more people who delve into the EU the better. I pretty much spend my life reading or playign some aspect of AC, always finding out new lore and looking forward to the next book or comic.

Quite possibly a twisted attempted at getting small kids and women involved in the franchise. Which is totally the WRONG way to go about doing so? :)

Very sorry to hear that mate. Was a friend of mine who got me into the first Assassins creed when it came out and now we’re both 27 and still loving it! You’ve got a perfect way of always knowing Steven🤍 and yeah that is the first book, the best in my opinion if Forsaken about Haytham! A lot of people agree it’s such a good book you should give it a read

I've read awakening and its pretty decent. It actually has a modern day segment.
Jorge Junior Reis No they just created a whole new character to be as a place holder for the modern section. To be honest its not anything special, I'm just glad it did something the game could not do.

For me Bloodlines is part of the "core" of AC.
Plus, the events of Bloodlines are told in the novel "The Secret Crusade" :D
I wish I could put my hands on "The Secret Crusade" one day..."Forsaken" is the only novel I've read so far
vermillion I used to play Ac: Bloodline on my Samsung galaxy tab but the story is pretty short

The Hawk is the fourth volume of the French AC comic series.
And this whole series is not canon. :)

Assassin's Creed Univers the past is canon, Aquilus for example is in the Encyclopedia.
The encyclopedia are outdated, it isn't anymore!
I still would have included them. Their modern day being non-canon doesn't diminish their value or enjoyment factor in any way, plus they are techncially the first AC comics.
The worst thing is that this comics are not im my country... i mean they aren't in normal shops with normal prices soo i have to buy them by amazon or another web sites... and that's sucks :c

The new books would be desert oath (prequel to ac origins) and odyssey (events of the game following kassandra) as well as the valhalla novel. As for the comics, you've got bloodstone (AC WW1) as well as the blade of shao jun and assassin's creed dynasty (both taking place in china, the first following shao juns story from embers to the end of chronicles china and the second one an original story), both of them manga, there are also two comicbooks for ac valhalla (one of them hasn't come out yet) and also a manga series. There is also an assassin's creed origins comic following amunet after the events of the game.

Will reading the novels make u understand the whole story
Unless you read the novelization of a film or the game that the original franchise is based on, not really. Novels in the EU are usually fluff, for lack of a better term. Filler that is meant to cover up some of the original plot holes or unexplored themes.
Usually, the only canon that is acceptable is what is shown on film and TV series, or in this case, the video games as the original source material. Whether anything else is considered canon, will depend on the original creator's decision on what is canon or not.

Fuck all that, it's the game that matters. All of this would be so much more interesting if it were to be in the actual games and they would have a much better story. If only Ubisoft had the brains and time to implement it.
I disagree, just read "The forsaken" novel and you'll change your mind
vermillion I'm not saying that these novels and comics aren't good, I'm saying that these amazing stories could have been put in the games and would have certainly made them better. They could publish books later with stories that don't progress the story and simply add to the lore.
I mean, games take a lot of time and money to create, market and publish and not so much with books, or even film series. If every single one of these stories were made into games, then we'd be franchise fatigued to the max and the series would have gotten very stale. Books and comics allow them to focus solely on the story aspect, without worrying about things like gameplay design, or graphics to hinder the writing. This is why in the games you'll often end up missing out on stories, that have to be explained outside of them. This isn't about brains or time or lack thereof, it's simply a limitation.
The last Assassin's Creed game is so bad! .... I play them all... but Syndicate just destoryed it for me! ...
