Morning. I’ve been Trainspotting for the last few years in North and South Carolina. When I do find a train to record it’s by luck. I know most of the transpotters out there have a scanner. I’ve been looking at scanners and need advice on which one to buy. any help would be appreciated. Thank you, John
That was a whopping load of coal! I loved hearing the power working as it went by, and I'm really shocked it didn't have a DPU on a 201 car train. Great catch JT! 😊😊😊
You should have your dad record his stories on tape or write them down so they will not be lost when he goes to that great railroad in the sky. There has been too much knowledge first-hand that has been lost because nobody wrote down or recorded what they said and saw in the old days. It is a shame so much history has been lost.
Alex saved the day for us. We would have never got that shot at the crossing without him taking us up the hill! Us old guys don`t do long hills! Lol🤣🤣🤣
Excellent content, JT, and glad you used your hi-def camera because I can pause the vid and see clearly to check the load limit, and light weight specs on particular cars. The crazy-long coal drag were all empties .. I could tell by looking at spring compression. The RJ Corman switching action, and the SD's working the grade, I loved it! I love the sound, and look, of SD40's .. my favorite locomotive. And me being an electrician, I'm really glad you showed the spec plate on the Fairbanks/Morse coal elevator motor. I was really surprised it was still that legible. Excellent day railfanning .. thanks for bringing this to us.
I am pleased that West Virginia has RJ Corman Railroad right in that state. Your show shots are incredible. Pleasant June to you, Jaw Tooth! "You don't bark and you don't bite!" 🙂
Thurmond.......... man, what a peaceful place to live out retirement years. Maybe a little too peaceful (and remote)? Either way, very picturesque place. Thanks for the video.
Òne can only imagine now, how a C&O H8 Allegheny must have sounded, pulling a 160 car coal train through Thurmond! Wish CSX would rebuild one of the 2 remaining 2-6-6-6's!
Loved the locomotives and surrounding information. You're good. Long trains. Love the DPU I see you. ❤ Loki was just a puppy here. Sweet animals. Live action. Thanks Mr JT.❤😊
¡Santa vacia! Holy empty! ( vaca = cow, here we're commenting on only 3 human residents to the town, pueblo, which is vacía, empty, or shortened to MT). Gracias por tu video, Señor Jaws. RT sends, Puebla, México...
Wow 😲. R J Corman was interesting .😊 I'm enjoying this video. Cool looking locomotives.I believe Loki is enjoying the play with Chessie. We really enjoyed all the info on this video. On Virginia. Thanks ❤😊
Awesome vidro JT, some really special locos to see that day. I love the ghost town of Thurmond its really pretty & so much to see. Beautiful West Virginia. Ah look at little Loki! He is adorable playing with Chessie. God he is cute! ❤😊👍🐕🐶
Correct, Lynwood, it was a bucket conveyor system .. also referred to as an elevator. And as you may know, that type of system is still used in many applications today.
@@kennethfuller8347 I know, I have designed several over the years, mostly to move abrasives. We sometimes used pneumatics, sometimes screw type and bucket elevators.
We have alot of Union Pacific at Jack London square in Oakland California .. Rare but I have seen N S locomotive once over here paired up with Union Pacific ; thought to take a double look as the Northfolk Southern headed to the port of Oakland .
Those locomotives had some torq ! 2 in front & 1 in back was cool going up that hill .. Thoes cars where full & super heavy ..☺ .. I like to hear the locomotives ☝ ( especially idling up to take off)
I live in S.E. Texas near Port Arthur, Tex. It was the Southern terminus of Kansas City Southern. Since the CP merger I've seen their power everywhere. BTW KCS locomotives are called Belles. You know, like Southern Belles.

That is some Coaling Tower. Very different to most of the Coaling Stages in the UK here, but the Power-Stations used to operate a similar unloading method...a constant-screw type lifter(?) Nice catch with the 'Kansas City' and RJ Cormans folks there too. I'll catch part 1 directly. Keep Safe, Jaw Tooth. All the best. Cheers!

22 cars with bang, bang, bang wheels. Way above the North American standard of 1 car, maybe 2, per train. You definately filmed a record JT. Thank you JT.
Delightful to see a unit train of tankcars mostly untagged by the vandals. UNTAGGED... Lotta flat spots on wheels of that first train. Maybe braking on all those hills???? Good vid.
Thank you for posting this second part of your trip to Thurmond, West Virigina on 31 May 2023, Jaw Tooth! The empty westbound coal train was nice to see going through coal country. The R. J. Corman train switching the loaded coal cars together and then taking them back to Pax was interesting to watch. I presume they will be adding these cars to a future loaded coal train to come back to Thurmond. I enjoyed the tour of the old coaling station at Thurmond, West Virginia. The eastbound ethanol train with the Union Pacific and CPKC power was nice to view. If the population of Thurmond is only three people, why is there an open Post Office in Thurmond? Is there another instance of buttering up a politician to seek favors?
Nice catch! When you get a chance to film some Corman, you film some Corman. There be another CSX along just about anywhere at any time. Yeah...I'd like to spend a couple days there too!

That’s what I counted too!❤️
They're empty
Westbounds are empty.... heading back to the loadouts. CSX has their coal terminal in Newport News VA.
Think about the mountain of coal mined to fill just this one train.
My father, who is 90 years old, remembers Thurmond when it was still an active community. He was raised in Raliegh, Greenbrier and Fayette countries.
Awesome place to live, especially back in the day
That’s really cool, I bet your dad has some great stories about life. I enjoy history and have always enjoyed speaking with folks who’ve lived it.
to bad there is not more people living there

Great to see tunnel motors working in the mountains again!
love the sound of that SD40 T -2 !!
Alex saved the day for us. We would have never got that shot at the crossing without him taking us up the hill! Us old guys don`t do long hills! Lol🤣🤣🤣
RJ Corman SD 40-2 Tunnel motors. Looks like old SP locomotives judging by the long snoot. Great catch.
thanks! I am told they will be getting rid of them soon
@@JawTooth Well that's a bummer. It's always cool to see those old soldiers still running the rails.
@@JawTooth That would be a real shame. Have you heard if the mine at risk of closing?
@@robertf3479 I am told that the mine at Pax is safe. They have a new seam of coal to open up also
It's good to see the SD40T-2s working. Good locomotives for this kind of work.
Absolutely great video JT. Thurmond is my favorite location.
Same here!
God bless everyone ❤️🙏 good morning 🌞🌄
Always love it when you shoot trains in that location. The sound echoing off the hills is the best! Thank You Jawtooth.

Good trains with RJ Corman bonus footage. Very informative. Well done Brian
Many thanks!

Very good observations and one of the reasons why this channel is among the best on U tube... it's the closest thing to being there!
Great video JT. Love that Thurmond live action. Such a beautiful railfanning spot.
Excellent catch on that RJ Corman train. I didn't know that anybody was still using tunnel motors. Very very cool to see them still putting in work.
I miss seeing the old C&O signals. They recently removed old NYC tri-light signals from a control point in Bellefountaine.
Dang what a powerful horn on that RJ Corman loco!

Like that coal warf/tipple, nice lash up on Ethanol train with loud DPU, New River was up!🛤🚂
Gotta love that echo from the horns!
Great video of coal train in 4k
Thurmond seems a very pretty area JT, lots of trees and a cool town. Another great video, thanks!!
I like the fact that the coal LinkStation is still there. A subtle reminder of the great age of steam locomotives .
Downhill on Dynamics. Large percentage of flat spot wheels. Nice video, thanks Jaw Tooth
Cool place and Cool video Jaw!!!!!!!!!!))))))))))))))))))
Great video JT. Thanks again for sharing your videos. God bless
Coaling Tower probably had a Bucket Elevator to lift the Coal to the Top of the Tower. Nice it's still standing too!
I loved that tanker train JT!!
