Big Locomotives Take Tight Curve @ RR Interchange, Indiana & Ohio Railway, Wilmington Trains In Ohio

- 3 Huge Locomotives Blast Through Wilmington, Hit The Melvin Crossing & Squeeze Around The Tight Curve In Washington Courthouse, Ohio! This is the railroad interchange of Indiana & Ohio Railway lines that go in all directions. We see a Tilting Target Signal, an old Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad steam locomotive and a close look at an abandoned train station. We see both sides of the train as I chase it through the countryside near Wilmington and Washington Court House, Ohio. I was born in Wilmington, Ohio back in the pre historic era.
I got a heads up from 1960gambit that I&O Ry had a northbound manifest going through Blanchester, Ohio. He told me that it had 3 locomotives that I&O recently got from Larrys Truck Electric out of McDonald, Ohio. I headed toward Wilmington and intercepted the train running alongside of Rt68. I was amazed that I was able to catch up to it because the traffic was unusually heavy and there was no way around the red lights in town. I got stuck at both of them and three cars were in front of me.
Once I got out of the traffic jam I filmed the train passing a restaurant that dad used to take us to. It used to be Duffs Smorgasbord but that was years ago. That was in Wilmington which is where I was hatched back in the pre historic era.
Then I went to Melvin, Ohio and filmed it at a railroad crossing next to where I&O loads the rock trains. I intentionally filmed the other side of the train. A bike trail follows the line here and there is a parking lot by the crossing. Mrs Tooth and I rode our bikes on this trail so that I could make a video.
Next, I went to Washington Courthouse, Ohio and caught the train again. I got it leaving the Midland Sub and going onto another I&O line that runs through Tremont City, Ohio. I have filmed here before but it's been awhile. See my trains in the snow here and the railroad switching video.
Anyway, we see the OWLS railroad diamond and the tilting target signal. Look how tight the curve is. The train has to stop so that the conductor can line the track for their move. The nearby park has a steam locomotive on display and this video includes it.
On my way home I stopped in Midland, Ohio to take another look at the abandoned train station before it falls down. It is in terrible condition. It sits at the wye where the Greenfield Sub connects with the Midland Sub. We see a very close look in detail and then the pets and slide show follow.
Filmed Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

I got this train in my video today too from 3 places South of here. I'm surprised you were able to catch them!
Awesome! I want to see your video of them passing the abandoned station in Midland
@@JawTooth It's on there! 😁
I counted 50 cars on the train with 3 engines. That should be 218 axles? They mush have done some switching. The box car and hopper car right behind 2443 weren't there in Washington Court House.
😅😅 play out 😅
Nickel plate railroad had on e in Denver , Indiana Nickel plate cross the diamond of the Pennsylvania railroad
Glad to see those old ex-UP SD60Ms and that ex-CSX SD50 being used in service again! They languished in storage for many years at their respective former owners before LTEX bought them, and remained in storage on their property for several more years until recently.
I saw 2443 in Kent Ohio on a funeral train it is nice to see it running again. Number 2443 is an ex UP SD60M.
It's a big year for ticks. I'm catching them all before they burrow in. That old station is a perfect place to get a nail in your foot. When I was a little kid, we had a signalsman shack on our property. Once a year, nail in foot.
Its hard to see these old stations run down. They were not just throne together building but very classy buildings. Look at the end of the station how it curves around, they could have run a flat wall with one window but they took the time to make it beautiful! Hard to believe that all that crackling noise is music to my ears.
Wsquealing poppinge had a sharp curve going into our Y on the CHW Rwy and Thoses car seem to say, don't t twist our trucks like that, lol! This is a good reason to keep good donuts on top of those trucks becuz one stiff truck will refuse to twist and on the ground she goes!
Hey anybody got a Butterfly to get this thing back on the track! Ouch!
Thanks for sharing your daily runs on the railroad!
Watching some Jaw Tooth about trains with a positive upbeat attitude. A great way to start the day. Thank you sir for your videos!
My dad, though now deceased used to b a train engineer in my country. He wud ve loved watching all these videos especially the lash up of American locomotives with its long haulage which we never had the opportuinity to see over here. Many thanks mate. Do keep the videos coming
Awww, trains are frikken huge in America these day. Cool about your dad.
2:08 Wow! That's a former Union Pacific SD60M "Triclops" leading this Indiana & Ohio freight train. It is called a "Triclops," because it has three windows on the front of the cab.
Stellar video. Thanks, Jaw Tooth.
Great video JT, nice local train action, very cool. Thanks 👌👍😇
A great scene of railfanning!!!!!!
At the station the trains are amazing...SO good!!!!
🇱🇷🚂💞💕♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Another highly awesome video from you awesome Jaw.i agree with manny of your other channel followers, manny of your 2023 videos have been more then home runs they been knocked out of the park great. We railfans doubly love UP🇺🇸
There was a Duff's Smorgasbord in Monroe (I-75 at Ohio 63) that Dad would take us to. There was a Dutch Pantry near there too; served frankfurters in a split, buttered roll so we were eating FANCY!
Amazing videos Jaw tooth keep up the good work
Great catch of the IORR! They had quite the variety of power on that train. It was cool. 😊😊
I've never seen a signal like that before. Thanks JT! 😊😊
What a great video I love that old time station
JT thank you for this amazing video sad to see that train station collapsing keep the videos coming stay safe out there
Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo comme toujours ! 👍
I remember Duffs. Lol. They had the circular buffets.
Thanks again for a great videi JT.God bless.
Thanks for todays video, and the tour of the abandoned station. See you on next, Brian! 😊
Great place great video thanks jaw tooth
Cool location! That signal at the diamond and old depot is awesome!👍 wish that depot could be saved, but it's not looking good, great old architecture.
Howdy from Texas! I have always loved trains and stumbled onto your posts several months ago, and have been following you because you live in Southwest Ohio, where I was born and lived until I was 12 and my family moved to Texas. I am also from Wilmington and was delighted to see this post from there today! My dad also used to take me to Duff's, and it was a special treat! I'm so old I actually went to Smith Place Elementary, right before they closed it, 🤣🤣 I will continue to enjoy seeing your posts and learning about trains from you. Be safe, and God Bless!
Enjoyed the video. Sad to see the station in disrepair. 😢👍.
Great videos!
Great video JT. Nice story about taking that dinner train from that old station. Sad to see it in such a bad way. Cool catch of that I&O train that Y is real intetesting...
Thank you very much!
That’s an amazing lashup there! Awesome job!
Thanks a lot!
Hello Jaw Tooth, another great video of trains
going through the countryside and the crossings
here in Wilmington OH. and as always a really
great day and weather to watch the trains
Thanks for another great video and until
your next new video Thank You Jaw Tooth.
🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲💨
Good Morning.
Good morning Steve!
Loved the old train station. Wish they would restore some of the old stations. I try to imagine what it was like in it's prime.
We rip everything down to so sad ...edmonton can.
"It was so bad, that I ALMOST CONSIDERED going to the doctor" :) Classic . Hope you're well JT, thanks for the video
He should go. If he gets Lyme's Disease, it can paralyze or even kill you. My wife's co-workers husband was in a nursing home for 7 years and then passed away. All from a tick bite.
Glad to see those CSX EMDs still traveling, and the triclops!!
Wow awesome catch man! Love them SD60 trios and theirs nothing better than listening to that EMD power!!
Pretty cool when you can get a pacing shot at walking speed. Neat triclops on the point. Another great location, liked this one much!
Thanks for coming to WCH. That derailment last year happened on that very trestle the train is on. 2 or 3 years ago, there was a derailment of flatcars along that single line...
Another great train video! We had to look up LTEX to see what it meant. Good concept. Interesting to see all the tracks splitting off in different directions. Nice man in the red car to back up so he wasn't right in the middle of your video. Sad that the old depot was allowed to get in such a start. At this point not repairable so they should just knock it down. Have a good one!
Thank you very much! I like it when people stop back like that so that I can film. I actually notice that a lot. I always try to wave to them when they are leaving so that they know I appreciate it. Thanks for watching!
@@JawTooth great video as always glad to see them old ex UP and Csx engines still running on another railroad
@@JawTooth
Them people are just getting off camera in case they're caught, on RUclips, somewhere they shouldn't be 😅
Unless they are waving at you and doing Chinese Fire Drills 😮 😂
P.S. I would IF I was seeing you J.T. 🤣
Cool video Jawtooth. It’s sad that they just let buildings just crumble away like this! 👍❤️
That guy in the red car was nice, he backed up so you can shoot! Nice watch the train go thru the switch. Great video. Thank you
For anyone who knew this ruined station when it was still in operation, it must come as a shock! 😪
Brain that was an amazing video and as always amazing content on this channel 😊
Thanks so much!
@Jaw Tooth u are welcome brian
A Triclops! Interesting locos and a great look at short line operations. Thanks JT!!
Thank you too!
With locomotives pulling on that first train. They was really moving on thru there. Awesome action my friend.
Thank you very much!
Awsome they are moving
Magnificent catches of the trains coming by and pass, I like it 5 stars, keep up the great work, my friend, Greetings from Portugal to the USA
Thank you very much!
Very cool video JT. Back in the early 1970's, I attended Ohio University in Athens, and made many-a-car trip to Washington Court House. Over there in Athens, I rented a house alongside what once was a B&O main that curved its way thru the OU campus...watched many 1st & 2nd generation-powered manifest freights crawl thru there, along with passenger numbers 11 & 12, the "Metropolitan", loaded-down with tons of headend express business. Great, great memories...gotta love Ohio. Your "walking" footage of those three LTEX units @12:45 was unbelievable...check out that gorgeous 6-motor EMD in the middle. 👌👌👍👍
thanks for your comments! Our quarterback from the Bengals is from there also. I wish I could have seen it back then
When my kids were young we’d vacation in Ft. Lauderdale and eat at Duffs. Loved it. Thanks JT.
Cool! I never knew there were more of them. I learned something from this video
🍄🌹🇮🇳🍄🌹
Excellent Video
Thank you! Cheers!
I caught all of the SD60Ms up in Fostoria on the way down to Columbus back last August
Hey Jaw, great historical tour of that decrepit station. Be careful with those ticks, my wife caught LIME DISEASE back when doctors couldn't even tell us what it was. She suffered. This was a great vid and i enjoyed it this morning with my Saturday coffee here in DALLAS, NC. JUNE 10TH, '23.
Dude, you do the train spotting, so we don’t have to. Well done! 👍
thanks! Lol, I enjoy it
Neat catches and history lesson!!
Great catch of the IORY passing through! Certainly had a few Gondolas in tow in their great consist of mixed freight cars. Was kind of odd to see that switch operated by the conductor just past the crossing. Thanks again JT for another great video along with your PRICELESS time and effort! Cheers from Laurel, Delaware USA.
To see such a to me a beautiful old building left like that is a shame . Loved the internal door frames design. Nice video JT tanks from the 🇬🇧
Nice video and great catches. Have a nice day 😊🌈
Thanks! You too!
Thank you for showing the not 1, not 2 but 3 EMD LOCOMOTIVES!!! Awesome!!!! Thank you jaw tooth!!!
One of my favorite videos you’ve done! ❤️
Sad to watch the old station at Midland slowly falling apart. It has really gone downhill since you last filmed there. Those old buildings could tell some tales! They would have been really good to look at in their heyday, when trains full of passengers stopped to pick up and set down. Excursion trains ran all over the system making memories for those travelling on them to far flung destinations. Now they're just left to rot and fall apart. Such is the price of our so called progress, though I often wonder where it's all leading as the world doesn't seem to improve much for all this. It was always a thrill to catch a train to go on holiday in those days but now it's just another journey on a crowded highway!
My early memories are of a station near our house, where excursion trains ran to the coast on summer weekends. It has long been demolished and no sign remains of it, but it will stay in existence for as long as I live, if only as a memory of good times in my youth.
Thanks for bringing the memories back, even though they're from another country and another time. I can still see in my mind's eye the steep stairs up to the wooden high-level platform and even smell the woodwork, yet it vanished forever over 50 years ago! That's one of the common themes of railway travel from days past wherever you are in the world.
Ex Union Pacific's and ex csx engine
Wow that was a good one Thanks againt, Silt watching you
A Cyclopes! Awesome Catch Jaw Tooth! 👍👍👍
Nothing beats an old Triclops.
Thanks JT!
LTEX is picking up cast off locomotives from the major railroads and renting them out to lesser companies. There were two ex-UP SD60M's and an ex-CSX SD50-3 on there. The lead unit has a 3-way windshield. The three letters are probably the dispatcher's initials.
A trio of (roughed up) SD60M’s … worth the price of admission. OOps, one was a -50. The old terminals, stations, and signals remind us of how authentic the railroads are and how important they are to commerce. Short line RRs and small business: the lifeblood of America.
I liked this one. Gettingrto see them go from one track to another
Hi Mr Jawtooth, great video sir, the train taking the tight curve was excellent, it's a shame to see the old depot/ freight office rotting to the ground if I had means I would rescue I would bring it home to Texas, the old 4-8-4 is a fantastic peace of beautiful engineering.
Hey Jaw Tooth the Big Boy 4014 UPS be in Gering Nebraska today. around 4.30pm and enjoying watching the video anyway awesome video Jaw Tooth 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😃😎♥️ and enjoy the side show too ❤❤
I thought trains used a remote control to switch tracks. But like here. A conductor gets off and flips a switch then gets back on. Enjoying this video so much thanks. Always interesting. 😊 It's a shame old historic buildings are not restored. ❤❤
Many mainlines nowadays have remote control switches but some may still have manual switches. Branchlines and short lines will most of the time have manual switches
Good afternoon I enjoyed that video👍👍
Thanks 👍
It is sad that they let the station fall into such a state of disrepair. I'd think someone would have wanted to move it and restore it in a park somewhere. 😢 I'm sure it was beautiful at one time.
Got a $ million dollars for such a project?
@@jeffreygosselin7576 It wouldn't cost that much if they had kept up with the maintenance.
@@garymiller5937 I agree however I think this one is too far gone.
Yeah, I wish it could have been saved. The good news is that the next depot down the Greenfield sub did get saved. I did a video on it a couple years ago. I can't think of the name of the town at the moment
Another piece of Americana slipping away. Wonder how many young GI’s left from that station to go to their basics or to head to one of the coast to go overseas back in WW2 or Korea or maybe Nam? Just memories now.
The Indiana & Ohio Railway train powered by those three EMD SD60s was an impressive train. You mentioned that the Indiana & Ohio Railway recently acquired these engines from Larrys Truck Electric. Did Indiana & Ohio buy these engines or are they leasing them? If the I&O bought the engines, I wonder how long it will be before they paint them in Indiana & Ohio Railway paint scheme. It looks like two of those engines are former Union Pacific engines and the other appears to be a CSX engine. That was a very tight curving track that the I&O train went around. That train dilapidated station in Midland, Ohio sure looks like it will collapse any day now. Thank you for updating us on this train station.
They carry LTEX lettering, so they're probably leased
The former CSX unit is an EMD SD50.
Hey JT, the I&O looks like Watco's WSOR trains with the SD60M'S in consist!
A good catch today there. Quite a tight curve for the bigger, 6-axle loco's right enough. Pity about the old station. Yeah, be careful about those ticks. Interesting plaque there too. Grand video and thanks again Jaw Tooth. Cheers!
👍🇺🇸🤳🚂🚂🏃💨❤
Everything I experienced as the son of a Railroader, is just a memory. Most all of the Railroad Stations and all the Railroad Housing are gone. I just discovered a photo of my Late mother, posing on the front porch of the home, where we found solace, in tough times.
It's true;
What don't kill you,
makes you stronger.
That was really neat seeing the tilting target signal. I have never seen one before. Thanks for sharing. I forgot what you names your new puppy. What is his name?
Wonderfull film! Counted the wagons : 50 and 3 locks in front! Tx!😊
Hey jaw tooth it's cool to see a tilting signal.its a shame no one saved the station. ☹️ Have a great railroad day.
Finally got around to watching this awesome video. Not sure why I missed it. Must of been busy farming and didn’t get it watched. Thanks for the tour of the Midland depot. RIP the Midland depot. What an awesome chase to get the I & O Railway in action!
We’re lucky to still have our train station and U.P. Main line goes through our town.
I love those old buildings, wonderful video
Glad you enjoyed!
☠️ Hey JT, Leaving the bottle water in the sunlight outdoors is cancer causing. Looking out for YOU and the rest of the family. As always, good to see 🐾 Norfie! 🐈⬛ Keep the vids coming, I look forward to watching them everyday. Thanks man.
Hmmm...
Water bottles sit out all over the world in the sunlight 😮
It would take a looong time for anything to leach out of the plastic into the water that could cause cancers 😂
Ya know that they use special plastic for them bottles heh ??? 🎉
👍👍 Very cool Jaw Tooth! Thanks! ❤❤
Good video Jaw!!!)))
Wow loved that train moving so fast
Thanks for watching
Duff's Smorgasbord. We used to eat there when i was a kid too at the one that was in Fairfield.
😂WheelSqueal... one of my favorite sounds.
Hi from Montreal, Canada. Great videos !
Good video Jawtooth
Thanks for showing the old station, the steam loco and the plaque. I wish the station could be restored and some kind of passenger service renewed, if only for excursions.
I agree with you
1:20 "It's already here!" Twister
Excellent video JT. It’s always sad to see historical artefacts left to decay. But it comes down to money and volunteers to restore the station, then find a use for it to generate an income for continued conservation.
Thanks for sharing ... great seeing ex-UP 2369 SD60M triclops
Shame about the depot..the window of opportunity for restoration has long past, so its good you got one last look, while its still got some of it's bones left. Excellent video JT!
🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💯👍🇺🇸
Thanks 👍
Great catches and nice video
Thank you very much!
You're welcome
Great video, JT. Wilmington in a real railroad town. Someone should model it. Those EMD 6-axle units have seen better days, but I’m glad to see them still working. Looks like an ex-UP SD70. The old station appears to be beyond repair, sorry to say.
That would be cool!
Cheez its love em ...great catch at nostaglia crossing ...memories mmmm sir we are lucky
Glad you enjoyed it
That's sad to see all these train stations going to waste
Great video Brian!
