- Powerful Truck Pulls A Train In The Middle Of Main Street! Cop Saves The Day At Malfunctioning Railroad Crossing! Street Running Maintenance Of Way Truck/Train Going Both Ways Unloading Railroad Ties! LONG VERSION & Man Walks In Front Of Street Running Train. CSX Street Running Train Action In LaGrange, Kentucky.
This is the full version in landscape orientation. I have posted a few shorts in portrait and now we see the rest of the story. Both sides of the heavy duty truck pulling 5 loaded railroad cars. We see it at both ends of the street running track in LaGrange, Kentucky. We also see how they unload railroad ties from the train while it is moving.
A truck hit the railroad crossing gate and bent it. It kept going up and down nearly hitting every car that passed by it until the LaGrange Police came to the rescue. They bent the crossing gate back so that it would stay in place properly. The guys in the truck who originally bent the gate tried to bend it back but were unable to. They didn't use the right technique. Lol.
I also explain how fast the train can run down Main Street. We see the signs that give the maximum speed for the CSX trains. The numbers to remember are 10 and 25.
Then we see a huge street running train running south through town. A man just casually walks in front of the approaching train like it's no big deal. This train was a huge one. An Emergency response vehicle got to wait for the train while on a run and we also see the steam engine at the train station. The steam locomotive is from the UK and there were talks of trading it and having it return home across the big pond. The talks fell through because some of the parts to the locomotive turned up missing. They were being shipped and never made it to where they were going, according to the LaGrange museum. On the Union Pacific Railroad this truck is known as a Brant Truck. The air brakes work the same as on a normal trains. Thanks to a viewer for that information. The house that you see the inside of is an Air BNB. I stayed there and it is called The Brakeman's Shanty. It is right on Main Street right where the street running tracks begin.
This video has all kinds of interesting stuff from LaGrange and on the day that I am posting this I am in LaGrange filming again! I was there from 10:30am until about 9pm on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
Filmed with 2 cameras in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

The truck is a Peterbilt truck modified by Brandt of Regina Saskatchewan. They add the required railroad devices so that it can operate as a locomotive. They can be ordered in numerous configurations and equipped with many choices of optional equipment.
Thanks for the information!
Freightliner SD 122 actually but yeah Brandt has modified some cool trucks and other vehicles
Oh okay, thanks for the info. @@cdocker3070
Does that mean a train engineer doesn't get paid for the job?
@@JawToothdude are these stick shift freightliners
In the 1800’s towns thought it was a great idea to build right along the tracks. Now a train running down the middle of Main is a bit inconvenient.
L😅L sure is a inconvenience.
Back then things move slower, And I also think the trains were shorter.
Railroads still have the right of way regardless. That's the way it is. People need to live with it.
Many towns grew up around the railroads, with the tracks through town very close to the commercial and retail center, but it is unusual to have retail buildings actually _facing_ the railroad.
I am there right at this moment. I just filmed a monster train of almost 10,000 feet
@JawTooth looking forward to viewing that video. 🤗
Of course it counts as a train. It had a power unit and rail cars, and it was moving on railroad tracks. At least to me that's what makes a train. 😊
You right
In order to be classed as a train it must have a rear end marker of some kind; caboose,Fred, red flag etc
Very true and I am right there at this moment. I just filmed a train with 646 axles
@@JawTooth This is not a train as far as the railroad is concerned. It may be a train to the public and the railfans but it's not a train. If it were a train, it would have to be manned by an engineer and conductor and maybe even a brakeman. As far as I could see, this M/W equipment was operated by one man. All major railroads have agreements with the operating and M/W unions allowing these hi-rail trucks to be manned by a M/W employee. I believe there are limits to how many cars can be towed around by the truck. Great catch showing how the crane rides on rails set above the sides of the cars, so it can move from car to car and reach down for the batch of ties and put them on the right of way. Keep up the good work.
I agree
The derrick in the rear gondola ran over the ties to lift and drop them from the sides. That looks like a useful arrangement.
Thanks for watching 😊
That train was just truckin' along!
Thanks for watching 😊
That is the first time I've ever seen a big truck pull train cars
Thanks for watching 😊
Never thought I'd see a truck train! Will wonders never cease, lol. Another great find, JT
Glad you enjoyed it
Looks like tie replacement is coming up soon. Hope to see it. I like watching maintenance work. Great video. Have a nice day 😊🌈
Thanks, you too!
Seemed like the train was "truck" ing along
Yup😊 thanks for watching
😂😂
If it's on a track, it certainly is a train, JT! Just not your regular engine... but is definitely still counts as a train. And it certainly was "cool", that's for sure! Loved the "real" train, as well, that held up the ambulance. Great double DPU! Thanks, JT... another great video and pets/art ending... and she is a "good looking" doggy... because she's totally secure and loved!
Very true! We love our pets
Nope, it’s a hy-rail not consider a train. The second move was a reverse move by the Brandt truck. The track-hoe protecting the shove.
Awesome catch great place Lagrange great video thanks Brian
Thank you very much!
I love those street running trains
Thanks for watching 😊
Great video JT!! Would be so happy to live there and be around the trains all the time. Great action going on all through the video!! Thanks for all you do to bring this to us. Awesome to watch the work train and that you were there to catch that!! Like the Railfan platform also. Great when the community supports the Railfans. Until next time!!
Thank you very much!
The truck is a train
First, I had no idea big trucks had that kind of power. And the case for shorter trains was made clear by having a fire chief on call have to wait for a big train to clear, big shout out to our first responders. Always enjoy your trips to La grange, Ky. Nice job JT.
Thanks for watching 😊
apparently they have traction motors ..they don't use the trans ..i don't think even 2200 torque which is at the higher end can move rail cars ..as a truck driver myself i quickly looked into it
@@JawTooth your welcome JT.😎
Of course they do diesel engines have lots of torque
I heard that bull dozers can also pull long trains. When my friend told me that he did that, I found it hard to believe.
Those road to rail chassis adapters are getting quite common on British Heritage Railways for civil engineering vehicles.
Much more convenient, and easier to store smaller vehicles.
Thanks for watching 😊
Thanks for capturing something most of us don't ever get to see!
One more JTV that's awesome!
May God be your protector.
Thanks for watching!
It's awesome seeing how much your channel has grown, before you know it 500K.
Lol thanks for watching 😊
Love old JT running the stopsign at .43 . I held my breath for you man!
Lol, thanks for watching 😊
The first one definitely counts as a train, but some people seeing it from a couple blocks away might think it's a truck. If you ever see a crossing with malfunctioning gates but nobody around to fix them, there is usually a number to call to report the situation. The fire department might have two different stations on different sides of the track, but only one fire chief, so that might explain how the other firefighters got ahead.
Thanks for watching 😊🎉
Two stations could be a solution, but it would depend on the size of the town as to whether they could afford two.
I actually called the number before, one posted on a grade crossing signal in Orange, MA, so to report a burnt out light bulb on a two headed searchlight color signal in nearby Athol (CPF-363), to the east thereof. I do know that both heads of any wayside signal must be lit so to display the proper aspect, giving the train crews the proper indication.
The station in La Grange is a museum. I don't think Amtrak even stops there. It's just a CSX line. East of town there are spurs that look like CSX may have some maintenance yard there. The town is more a suburb of Louisville KY than anything. It's off I-71 between Louisville KY and Cincinnati OH
Unless there is a sound order I would think a truck would still have to blow the horn at the crossing right?
JawTooth
That video was AWESOME 👍😎
Great catch. With the truck train's or train trucks
Live action. With the maintenance equipment
Unloading those railroad ties
Thank you very much!
That sign 10 we call that a "Diamond Board". The rule book definition is a SPEED RESTRICTION.
Thanks for the info 😊
Hey, wait a minute! That train didn’t stop at the stop sign! Lol! 😂
Yeah, keep it up and he’ll get a ticket for running a stop sign. 😅
Thanks for watching!
Wow, never seen that before!! Great video, thank you... 👍🏼
Thanks for watching!

My pleasure, love your videos!!! 👍🏼♦️🇺🇸❤🇺🇸
That's definitely something you don't see every day. I love watching trains from this location. Thanks for sharing...
Glad you enjoyed
Now where else would you see a truck pulling a train down main street? Love it, jolly good show JT.
As always, great video!👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Well that was a surprise. Here in Britain we have bus replacement service, but you have truck replacement service. LOL
Great Footage Jawtooth!!, Dave
Jhooth I always get up in the morning to watch your videos before work. They get me off to a good start.
Glad you like them!
Great video JT. Love that street running "Live action" in LaGrange.
Thanks 👍
Notice how the sides of the cars are built up with those vertical columns. They add support so the excavator actually drives on the top of the rails. The operator really has to know what he's doing but those wide treads make it possible.
Thanks for watching 😊
No. Those are just so we can load more ties in the cars. The excavator drives on top of the ties and unloads along the tracks.
@@justinfowler2857
I saw a similar car here in Arkansas doing it that way so thats what I figured this one was doing too.
@@stevearcher3921 i guess what you saw was the excavator riding on ties that were stacked flush with the top beam of the extension.
Wouldn't surprise me thats what I saw and Didnt recognize it for what it was. I never worked on the railroad and just like many am fascinated by the things they do
That is pretty wild. Never seen that before. Thanks JT 😊
No problem 👍
Wow, J T, one of your wildest and craziest videos ever!
Glad you enjoyed it
I saw a few L&N covered hoppers in the train with the FD waiting. How fitting.
PS: Was the Chief a runner?
Enjoyed this, especially the two police officers fixing the "barrier-guard" ... your police force has multi-talented officers!
This video depicts just one of many reasons why trains should not be a mile or more long. On a happier note: it seems that no matter how many times you visit LaGrange it’s a pleasure to be there. What a great place.
I am there right now. I just filmed a train almost 2 miles long
@@JawTooth Ah yes. There you were on the VR South cam. :)
What? What other reasons could you have and why are you against trains being long? The reason why trains are the most efficient means of transporting cargo is because they can pull massive amounts of cargo with a surprisingly low amount of energy (relatively). If a train only pulled a few cars at a time, it would be the least efficient form of transportation……
@@Jay_Force_One How about pulling a single "car" on rubber tyres on tarmac. Efficiency is through the floor yet its sadly a very popular method of freight transport.
@@neilrobertson811now what are you on about..
Oh i almost forgot, how old is sweet lil Brandy dog and Chessie dog?
This was a really good video!❤
Glad you liked it!!
BTW the gates have a breakaway pin that if you hit it , the gate swings away avoiding the snapping of the fiberglass gate . It makes it a easier repair for the signal department , sometimes
😂if that ain't a train I don't what it could be!!!! I know one thing.... that truck is a BIG BAD BOY!!!!!!!
Thanks for watching!
LaGrange never disappoints! Right place, right time for sure. Thanks for the awesome video!
You got that right!

"Wow, cool", is the same thing I said. What an interesting mix of events. I would've never thought that the Brant truck could pull that much weight, but obviously it's designed for it. I've seen 'em pull a few empties before, but 4 fully loaded gondolas and a 5th with the tie handling rig is pretty impressive. It must have some pretty steep gearing. And the bent crossing arm, I'm guessing the cops have had to straighten that out a few times before. It didn't take too much effort to get it back close to where it should be. All around, a great day of railfanning, JT, thanks.
Thanks for watching 🎉
19:00
being inside that train is probably the same feeling of being in a lambo in the middle of that city.
Thanks for watching 🎉😊
Probably a big formal CSX event where they want everyone to dress the same... including wearing their train ties. I really can't think of any other way to explain what I just saw. However, I haven't had my coffee yet this morning. Gracias por tu video, Señor Jaws. RT sends, Puebla, México...
Lol, thanks for watching 😊
Wonder if Shoestring ever rode that line? 😊
I bet he has
I caught something similar by Union Pacific in AZ... Seems to be standard operating procedure for dropping ties. Excellent coverage of everything taking place on this very entertaining video !!!

Nice vid JT!! You had some awesome catches that day! Great work 👏👏👍👍
Thanks 👍
It went by on the rails, Dude.
I'd say that's a train.😊😊😊

You always find the most unusual railroad "stuff". I have never seen a truck like that with 3 rear axles.
Thanks for watching 🎉😊
My favorite Railfan channel. A lot happens on that Main Street with the tracks and road curve there. People are constantly driving off on the tracks or blocking the train there. Nice to see it all close up.
Very true! Thanks for watching
Looking like they are getting ready for tie replacement
Man I’m already watching this well I’m not gonna be able to watch it all because I have school😢😢😢
They spent all Summer working from O’Bannon North to La Grange. Today they are working at the 31 on North. Good Upgrades. MOW busy on that LCL Sub. 😊
Very cool!
I was there again today
What an amazing cool video. A truck pulling street running train.. Wow! 😮😊😊 Boy you caught some winners here Mr JT. Amazing.❤😊 Something we've never seen before. 😊Thank you so much ,really enjoyed this. And your sweet fur babies. Take care! 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yes, indeed; it was a train, limited to the tracks, the "locomotive" was funny lookin', and it was marked CSX. So there you go!
Well said!
My oh my, it was all happening there JT. Right in front of your camera. Great work capturing it.
The CSX hi rail truck pulling the gondolas with the railroad ties was a great catch. The backhoe dropping ties along the right of way was the first time that we have seen this process. Too bad we were not able to watch the backhoe move from its resting place to the rail on top of the gondolas. This is not the first time that we have seen the LaGrange, Kentucky come to the rescue when a crossing gate malfunctions. I enjoyed watching this vide and I look forward to seeing the video that you create of your trip to LaGrange, Kentucky on 24 October 2023.
Thanks for watching 😊
Another one of my favorite Jawtooth places! I believe those crossing gates are the most abused in the nation!😊 cool catches there Jawtooth! Thanks for sharing!👍

JT this was one of your awesome videos, great job but not surprised.👍👍
Wow, thanks!
You sure find some crazy things !!!!!!
thanks for watching!
It's unusual that they went back and forth so much, the Brandt trucks are pretty common, NS has one for each Division, CSX looks like they recently started buying them as that truck was pretty new compared to the NS Harrisburg Division one.
Thanks for watching 😊
Cool video Jaw !!!!! I learned a lot about trucks on rails!!!)))) Thanks !!!)))
Glad to hear that!
An awesome video! Mr. Tooth is absolutely the best! Thanks so much & Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you too!
Awesome catches JT!! 😊
I like this a lot on your "short" 👍 👏👏👏
Glad you like it!
Think of the truck as a disguised GE 70 tonner and with that air horn it will command attention. With the freight cars behind it it looks a lot like those big rigs in Australia that haul several trailers out in the rural areas. And as for all the accidents and bad parking that appear on Virtual Rails you back down the street with the crane which will lift any offending vehicle into the gondola. Thanks JT for a great look at CSX Intermodal services LaGrange style.
You could hear the moment the engine got to the milepost where track speed increased to 25mph - the slack went out of the train and you could hear the jerk. Great day with plenty of action. Thanks for posting it
Good point! I should have mentioned that. Thanks for watching!
That is some hot live action let me tell you!
Good morning Pappy, and that looks AWESOME!! Looks like you have a good size garage as well. Thanks for sharing and have a good day. Happy modeling!! - Jason

@JawTooth you have great video's to Jaw tooth I'm not sure why this comment made it to your channel 🤷♂️😅
I have never seen a truck pull trains cars before
I have a caboose here in Wyoming, Michigan but the thing has doors steel plated and other cars also have not moved in decades it looks... all rusty.
That was some cool stuff JT! I'm guessing the fire department wasn't a bit happy about having to wait on that train. Perhaps they should put an overpass in town somewhere. Thanks for the video. I thoroughly enjoyed it! 😊😊😊❤❤❤
Thanks for watching 😊
eh not the happiest but if it's only the chief who cares. pretty much everyone can be in command
Awesome video again, looks like tie replacement is going to be happening soon.
Most likely
Well, they unloaded all of those ties somewhere, so I expect some replacement to begin soon :)
With that high-rail truck carrying ties to and fro, you got more action than usual, JT.
Yeah, that was pretty cool
That was cool seeing a Freightliner pulling gondolas! Couple of weeks ago we saw a semi tractor pulling train cars on the track, in Monroe, Washington! Lots of action great video!

A very interesting visit to LaGrange. Plenty of varied action, a really good video Jaw Tooth. ❤
Thanks for the visit
Pretty good driveline in that truck to pull that weight. Interesting to see how it would do going up or down a grade of any length. I would not want to be going down a long grade running on truck brakes alone.
Grades might be an issue due to lack of adhesion because of a lack of weight, but just getting stuff rolling is pretty easy on rail.
Brandt R4 has sufficient tractive effort to haul 15 loads on level track. Rating goes down depending on the grade.@@dustinmcdevitt6819
And the truck is equipped to control the railcar brakes, just like a locomotive. The transmission is not a standard Freightliner model like in a highway truck. Much stronger set-up. A new Brandt truck costs over $1 million.
Thanks for watching!

nice catch! what a series of unique situations! Thanks for posting!
Thanks for watching!
Here in Victoria Australia we were running an "RTL Class" locomotive for a while until about a decade or so ago, it was essentially a hi-rail and coupler equipped Western Star truck that was legally able to run as either a locomotive on rails or a truck on the roads, with the idea being that it could be used to move freight over then-disused lines in short, lightweight trains to the still-used parts of the line where the short trains would be assembled into one long train and taken to the cities/ports by a normal loco.
There's videos of it hauling log trains around Bairnsdale and Sale on RUclips, along with a lot of photos.
Really interesting , lots of different things going on 🙂👍
Thanks for the visit

Awesome video as usual; you always manage to capture the unique. Beautiful town, pure Americana....thanks!
Thank you very much!
I find street running to be so surreal as trains pass along the street and in between buildings. (There isn't any of it left in the UK). The other thing that is surreal is looking at road vehicles running on railway lines. This one takes the biscuit: A road vehicle, adapted to be able to run on railways, pulling railway wagons, on a railway embedded into a street to perform street running. Not something I have ever thought of. Maybe only on a Jaw Tooth video.
Thats the most unique one you've ever captured! Great catch. Yes its a train, just a different power unit..
Thanks for watching and commenting
