The "Triple Crown" train could be considered the Grandfather of inter-modals. Nice to see them still running, but I know their days are numbered. Thank you Jaw Tooth for another wonderful half hour! So thankful you do these videos - I'm getting a lot of ideas for scenic spots on my model railroad, learning a lot of things about the area around me, seeing amazing trains, and being able to relax as I watch them. May God always protect and bless you!
I've never gotten to run a roadrailer trailer. I hear they're heavy. Use to see ads for them in the "throw-a-ways" at truck stops. Their main yard is in FT Wayne. Amtrak use to pull mail with them out of Chicago.
Interesting article I have not seen any transport system such as this before ; I wonder if it is safe or just another way for railroad companies to save money!
Hey, Señor Jaws! That's the day I of my flight to Tijuana and then hoof it across the border (se llama/they call it... la linea) for some tasks in TJ and San Diego, CA. Long trip... flight is scheduled for 3hr20min. Gracias por tu video. Back again in... Puebla, México, RT sends/envía... Have a great day!
Remember, it’s people like you that can help keep Americas railroads safe. It’s gettin’ weird out there, stay safe, keep your head on a swivel and, *as always,* great video!
That was a great Triple Crown train. It's really unfortunate that they are phasing them out. It seems like a much more efficient way to ship trailers with less handling. Thanks for catching one of the last of it's kind JT! 😊😊😊❤❤
That is a cool fire department. It's great to see old schools repurposed into something useful. So many are left to deteriorate to the point they need to be demolished. 😊😊
That Triple Crown train was wild. I never saw anything like that before. And the train in the dark was pretty cool. Seeing the lights of the locomotive in the dark was pretty exciting and it was cool seeing each car appear out of the dark one by one.
Hey Jaw tooth! Another great job, like the darkness, little spooky, heavy air night makes deeper sounds, I really appreciate what you do!trains are in my blood, retired Carman Dan,GTW Flint
Sure glad some of you are getting these Road Railers while they are still around to get. And I really liked the night shot. Kind of in the O. Winston Link tradition. Thanks.
Hey jaw tooth cool trains. It's fun watching trains cross diamonds. I've never seen a road train in real life. Only on videos. Please be very careful filming at night. Stay safe. Have a great railroad day 🚂🙋♀️
YES!! The clip in the dark WAS worth it!! I thought it was a really interesting shot seeing the cars come out of the darkness and the details you could make out. Also, that Triple Crown train was magnificent! Never saw one such as this before and glad you were able to bring it to us. Hope you catch the second one in a future video as well. Great video today JT!! Missed you yesterday, so was looking forward to today's post! Thank you so much!!
WOW!! Now I GET IT! Never seen more Triple Crown Road Railers in my life, and that is an amazing sight! Only seen 3 or 4 prior to this! This is a real sight to see! Truly awesome. I see what you meant by a wobbly ride!
Really enjoyed seeing that long road-railer train- I counted 124 trailers on that bad boy! Saw one of these trains back in the day at Stockton… all Swift trailers on that one. 👍😀
I saw a TripleCrown roadrailer train arriving in Cincinnati, Ohio about six years ago when I was looking at the railroad yard during the WWII event at the Cincinnati Union Terminal.
Interesting that NS had some unusual rail cars that I have NEVER seen before. Happy Birthday Randy. Cool video today Mr JT.❤😊 Thanks Chessie and Loki is awesome. Enjoyed this 😊
That's a pretty long triple crown train! I was expecting something a little shorter considering this is the last route that remains for them. Glad to see the road railers still out there doing work!
Have seen the NS/ Triple Crown Road Railer many times, when it's passing through Sidney, IL. Have seen it 4-5 times this fall, while hauling to/from, or at the grain elevator in town. The most recent one I saw had a BNSF locomotive the the head end.
It was amazing when Road railer came out how many railroads and trucking companies we're on the bandwagon. For several years there was a daily Fort Wayne to Twin Cities run which used NS power and ran on the UP from Chicago Westward. Sadly once the Ford truck plant closed that was the bulk of the business and also probably paid the best and it was dropped shortly thereafter. With those Mega trains you shot that line does have its good share of 89 ft Auto Parts boxcars which also are disappearing and fewer roads own or operate them. The night shot came out very good as one could make out the reporting marks on at least 90% of the cars. All it was missing there was hobo shoestring cooking dinner in the camp.
I'm a truck driver I use to work Red Gold tomatoe Co. They use to load there products on triple crown trailers an i use to take the trailers back to triple crown yard in Fort Wayne, Indiana I'm not sure if yard is still open or not,, I love watching them put those trains together it was pretty cool.
Hey, JT... loved all the trains... glad you did post the "dark" one! I loved it... different perspective!!! Loki is growing... he's not such a "pup" now, loved watching him grow up from that cute little thing you brought back home back in May! Is that your lake? Hey... loved the Triple Crowns, as well... yes, I was thinking the same, that one engine pulling all those cars! Thanks, JT.
The Triple Crown Road Railer was really great to see I'm always interested in how many cars and long a train can go on especially when they cross a crossing and just keep going and going, i also wonder if a certain person could be taking a ride on one of them, great an appearance by your dogs having fun in the yard and the slide show at the end Thank You Jaw Tooth.🤠🇺🇲 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲💨
The technology is so simplistic. It is actually beautiful. The trailer sits on a truck-set and each truck set is connected by a hydraulic hose that runs along the bottom of the trailer. It is brilliant!
I was delighted to see the Triple Crown! Didn’t know a train existed that didn’t use regular train cars. And it was a long train, too! Thanks for the video.
Loving the old school building turned Fire Department! I'm glad it's been put to good use, and it looks great! I wish I could see what "vintage" the old school part is. Can't wait to see the Triple Crown ride by!
Nice catch. Hey about a year ago you commented on my 1 abandoned RR bridge and asked abput the spur on main j 10th in Northampton PA. I finally saw a train there. It didn't cross main Street but i did see a switcher moving along by the volunteer fire dept. I live in this area and went to school here (go Konkrete Kids) and in 20 years (im 37) never caught a train here. Oh and at the sigfried station on rt329 they are building a new highway bridge. Lots going on in the area where Americas first Portland cement plant is and the world's first coal fire kilns for cement and steel. Everyone else was burning wood or charcoal. Fall foliage festival in jim Thorpe is on now too if ya want some steam videos.have a great blessed day Mr Jawtooth. Huge fan and proud to have seen your comment and like. You rock Brian. Be safe.
Good afternoon Mr Jaw Tooth. Until I saw this video I had never seen and never heard of Roadrailer. However, I Googled it and have read up on it. Apparently we had the system here in the UK on one line (East Coast Line) from 1964, but it didn't last long and in the end the weight of the extra wheels for the railway made the trucks too heavy to be economical when used on the road. So, after nearly three years of watching your videos, I am still learning new things.
Hey JT. Good attempt to catch 256 (WB Triple Crown). NS has been running those later in the evening in October 2023. For night filming, Delphi, IN has a great spot on old IN-25 near McDonald's just a few miles west of your filming location. Thanks for the video!
I'm glad you included that night train, it was pretty cool. Something different. Kinda like watching a train from a camp site. Great video! You catch trains in a variety of places and the time of day is no different. Great job. Stay well roll on
Always interesting to see the Triple Crown trailers. Can't really see how they were ever an efficient way of transporting loads, with all the logistics involved, and the trailers themselves had to be significantly heavier than standard van trailers. But still cool to see them! The night train was like a ghost train! Cool video JT! 🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💯👍🇺🇸
I love hearing the trains going over the diamonds. Love the clickety black. And you were right, that last train in the dark was almost impossible to see. But you did your best. Nice to see Chessie and Lokie playing together. He must really like the water Great video. Have a nice day 😊
Instead of phasing triple-crown out, the railroads should be considering more of these types of trains. Looking at the minimal spacing between cars, looks like they are almost theft-proof, because no crooks are going to get those doors open. I heard they can run these trains up to 155 units [i didn't count this one], which is pretty fuel-efficient for a single locomotive.
From 2014 to 2018, I was a contractor truck driver for the USPS. My routes at one time delivered to the towns of Payne, Latty, Melrose, and Oakwood,Ohio. During this time, I used to see the triple crown train absolutely speeding through these communities. The truck I drove was limited to 62 mph, and they easily were doing 65 plus. Impressive sight to see.
Just a few weeks ago I was in Hannibal Missouri down by the Mississippi River and saw this train come across the river and through Hannibal. That lone NS engine sounded mighty good from about 40 feet away!
Awesome work JT, great night shot too!! It's always cool to see them at night regardless of the light situation. The boys and I have seen plenty of CN trains in the dark, and we still love seeing them. Playful pup!! But man, growing fast.
I remember back in 2012-14 that the Triple Crown was all but guaranteed between Minneapolis and Chicago by way of the Altoona Sub in Eau Claire. Sorry to see them go - they were the fastest trains on that line!
It was great seeing the Road Railers still being run. In the early days of Road Railers they were pulled by 4 axle locomotives. One 4 axle locomotive could pull 72 loaded vans, if there were 73 vans in the consist another 4 axle locomotive was added. That big 6 axle locomotive was pulling 124 vans as noted by an earlier commentor. I am not a fan of night videos. Do you know where the second train (that crossed the diamonds) was coming from/going to? A great video.
The defect detecter says 0 but you report wobbly boxcars? Every time we hear these reports it’s always 0. So all the cars are all OK I reckon. Hard to believe.
Defect detectors detect axle defects only, not anything that would make cars "wobble." They don't detect flat spots on wheels, of which there were several.
Ive been fortunate to have gotten two Triple Crown Roadrailer Trains in my lifetime, both in Michigan, both on CN Rails, and both were seen 10 years ago.
@@JawTooth Good areas are around Milan up U.S.23 north of the Ohio/Michigan state line. Small towns points west...And east of there toward Detroit Metro Airport. The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train does run on that line. (If they decide to do it this year)
I enjoyed watching this video, Jaw Tooth! It was nice that the Triple Crown Road Railer trailer train again. I had originally thought that we would never see another video of a Triple Crown Road Railer train because you mentioned in your June 2023 video of a similar train that the Norfolk Southern was going to stop running this train. I wonder how long Norfolk Southern will continue this train. The night train was difficult to see. The whole train was a silhouette as it passed in the dark. You could have used some light on the subject. The location where you caught that last train in the dark would have been a suitable location to see an eclipse of the moon.
Once i was in my parent's car on our way to florida when I noticed a Train passing alongside us, and to my surprise, It was a roadrailer! I was totally stunned!
That was a Great video !!! The train pulling the road trailers , they were doing some serious moving . I mean wobbling back and forth. It looks like it would be easy to derail. Great Job J.T.
I thought the Road Railer was interesting - don't recall ever seeing one in operation, but I got some almost surreal vibes watching those train cars materializing into that little pool of light from out of the darkness. 🙂
I like that firehouse! I wonder if Wide World of Trains saw that Triple Crown? Great video JT. Hard to believe only 1 locomotive pulled that whole train.
Night shots are difficult. Ya wanna illuminate the train w/o blinding the road crew. Short of catching the trains at Amtrak stations or sticking with the street runners I aint sure how ya pull it off. But I appreciate ya sharing with us! Oh, and the 1st freight, prolly the most 86ft hicubes I've seen in a long time. Great catch.
Hi JT, what a fab video, i just love N/S locos! When trains hit diamonds they make such a great distinctive sound proper clickety clack! Loved the night filming pretty spooky for this season. Hope you enjoyed Indiana. ❤😊 oh ps Loki makes me laugh! 😅
Cool! Jaw Tooth Mystery Theater with the spooky night train. 😂 Great night video!
124 Triple Crown trailers! AWESOME catch, Jawtooth! My favorite type of unit train! Thanks!
That was cool! Even though it was dark you could still see the cats except for a couple of the darker ones!
The "Triple Crown" train could be considered the Grandfather of inter-modals. Nice to see them still running, but I know their days are numbered.

That was a great Triple Crown train. It's really unfortunate that they are phasing them out. It seems like a much more efficient way to ship trailers with less handling. Thanks for catching one of the last of it's kind JT! 😊😊😊❤❤
The problem is they aren't efficient. They improved when they changed the design but it's still more efficient and cost effective to do TOFC/COFC.
They are also heavier than a normal van trailer so less freight per trailer which is less efficient.
I remember when Southern Pacific ran roadrailers on the I 5 corridor for a short time. Was pretty short lived.
Thanks for watching!
They don't want to pay anybody to put them together and take them down that's why it's not profitable for the railroad very very good idea

Wobbly cars is because of track, and you want some wobble.

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching!

125 truck trailers pulled by one single locomotive.. Now that's impressive.
I agree. That is pretty good. Semis can't compete with that lol
I liked the nighttime train. It kept my attention, trying to sort the cars out. It was kinda fun!
it may have been dark but i could still see the train and you still worth posting.
