    Present progressive
    Estar + AR verbs
    AR verbs drop AR and add
    -Ando
    Estar + ER & IR verbs
    ER and IR verbs drop the stem and add -iendo
    When an er and ir verb ends in Vowel before the stem the i becomes y
    Leer -> leyendo instead of leiendo
    There are also some exceptions
    Like dormir which becomes
    Durmiendo instead of Dormiendo
    Or decir which becomes
    Diciendo instead of deciendo

    -ando (-ar verbs)
    -iendo (-er / -ir verbs)...
    we can attach the 'lo' 'la' of the direct objects to the end of these is all. It would be like saying:
    We are playing it... but attaching "it" to playing (if English allowed that).
    Does that help?

  • @SeñorJordan
    @SeñorJordan  12 лет назад +5

    There must be a context...
    Ex:
    P1: What do you want to do?
    P2: Sleep.
    It's one word, but it's in a context and that's what I need to answer your question. :-)

    I'm glad you've been finding my videos useful! As far as 'carro', I completely understand what you're saying. But that's not a major difference. Generally the grammar is transferable from one country to another with minor differences while words like: car, bus, shirt, pants, hat, etc will vary on the countries and regions within them.

    Señor Jordan: Mis más sinceras felicitaciones por este otro fantástico video. Es muy didáctico y entendible para todo anglo parlante en su camino para hablar el idioma español. Adicionalmente nos ayuda a quienes somos maestros de español a enseñar gram'atica de manera simple, alegre y con muy claros ejemplos. Un abrazo.

    I think you have just become my favourite spanish teacher. I love the pace and I'm learning a lot of vocabulary the other courses don't use. Who knew what the word for vacuum was? One concern I have is the use of words like Carro, in Spain it is more common to use Coche or Auto.

  • @SeñorJordan

    leo = I read
    estoy leyendo = I am reading (right now)
    [form of estar] leyendo = [someone is] reading (right now)

    Thank you for your comment, Mr. Max West. I presume you must be above average in your ability to learn a language. I applaud you. You still had to move through an obstacle course before you became a Critic of Spanish Language Teachers. I have to make an extra effort to learn a language. I have studied many videos of other Spanish language Teachers paid for by advertisers in the RUclips and other parts of the Internet.

    This pretty much explained all a beginner will need to know to properly use the "Present Progressive". Also, can you make another video explaining that other verbs can also trigger the use of the Present Progressive with some nuances. For example, Using Ir+Gerund gives the verb a sense of gradual arrival at something. Eg. Voy estudiando- I am studying and gradually doing so. Besides Ir we can also use Seguir, Andar, Continuar etc.

    "Lavar los trastes" (wash the dishes) in some parts of the Spanish world means "to wash butts"
    For a more generic expression, "lavar los platos" o "lavar la vajilla" would make it more universal.

    Primero: Puedo los adjuntar objetos directos "me" , "te" "nos" y "os" a los verbos que terminan con -ndo?
    Y segundo: Puedo los adjuntar objetos indirectos o los dos(ambos los objetos directos e indirectos) al mismo verbo? Y hara un cambio el lugar de los acentos? :)

    Yo sé que ha contestado esta ppregunta pero no comprendo la respuesta... ¿porque dijo " teniendo la cama" en vez de "haciendo la cama"? teniendo significa "having", ¿verdad? y haciendo "making", ¿no?

    • @SeñorJordan
      @SeñorJordan  11 лет назад

      Creo que lo expliqué en el video anterior... tender la cama y hacer la cama son la misma cosa. Posiblemente en un lugar prefieren una forma en vez de la otra. Pero si usted contestara la pregunta "haciendo la cama", sería lo mismo.
      Y no dije "teniendo" (de tener)... dije "tendiendo" (de tender). Sería como "tend to the bed" en ese contexto.
