Present progressive Estar + AR verbs AR verbs drop AR and add -Ando Estar + ER & IR verbs ER and IR verbs drop the stem and add -iendo When an er and ir verb ends in Vowel before the stem the i becomes y Leer -> leyendo instead of leiendo There are also some exceptions Like dormir which becomes Durmiendo instead of Dormiendo Or decir which becomes Diciendo instead of deciendo
-ando (-ar verbs) -iendo (-er / -ir verbs)... we can attach the 'lo' 'la' of the direct objects to the end of these is all. It would be like saying: We are playing it... but attaching "it" to playing (if English allowed that). Does that help?
There must be a context... Ex: P1: What do you want to do? P2: Sleep. It's one word, but it's in a context and that's what I need to answer your question. :-)
@androstempest I'm glad you've been finding my videos useful! As far as 'carro', I completely understand what you're saying. But that's not a major difference. Generally the grammar is transferable from one country to another with minor differences while words like: car, bus, shirt, pants, hat, etc will vary on the countries and regions within them.
Señor Jordan: Mis más sinceras felicitaciones por este otro fantástico video. Es muy didáctico y entendible para todo anglo parlante en su camino para hablar el idioma español. Adicionalmente nos ayuda a quienes somos maestros de español a enseñar gram'atica de manera simple, alegre y con muy claros ejemplos. Un abrazo.
I think you have just become my favourite spanish teacher. I love the pace and I'm learning a lot of vocabulary the other courses don't use. Who knew what the word for vacuum was? One concern I have is the use of words like Carro, in Spain it is more common to use Coche or Auto.
Muchas gracias por todo que haces por la gente para practicar espańol! Besitos! Soy polaca y comprendo espanol porque miro tus videos! Gracias! Gracias!
It's a cool T shirt on the best teacher! Muchos gracias por ... uhm.. not in spanish jet... for your joyfull, adorable, 1th quality, mood-giver, etc. ... lessons! Love you forever!
More context? What exactly do you want to say? Is there a complete sentence that you could tell me so I could help you translate it better? Do you want to command someone, "Sleep!"...?
Thank you for your comment, Mr. Max West. I presume you must be above average in your ability to learn a language. I applaud you. You still had to move through an obstacle course before you became a Critic of Spanish Language Teachers. I have to make an extra effort to learn a language. I have studied many videos of other Spanish language Teachers paid for by advertisers in the RUclips and other parts of the Internet.
This pretty much explained all a beginner will need to know to properly use the "Present Progressive". Also, can you make another video explaining that other verbs can also trigger the use of the Present Progressive with some nuances. For example, Using Ir+Gerund gives the verb a sense of gradual arrival at something. Eg. Voy estudiando- I am studying and gradually doing so. Besides Ir we can also use Seguir, Andar, Continuar etc.
Muchisimas (acento) gracias Sr. Jordan. I really enjoy your videos. The y have helped me and the students, of course, a great deal. Thank you very much for everything...
thank you Mr. JORDAN for the videos . Did i tell you that your name is the same as my country's name ?? if i want to improve my Spanish more and i have almost finished your lesson ,where I go ? since that you have said that these are not made to make the one fluent in Castellano..... AGAIN senor JORDAN :ME GUSATAN TUS CAMISETAS FOR GIVE MY ENGLISH AND FORGIVE MY SPANISH VAYA CON DIOS
When playing sports, the standard is to add "al" after the conjugated form of "jugar" before the sport. you don't have to, but it's the "standard" way. :-)
PEACE Mr . Jordan thank you for your brilliant lessons .And Am asking God to give you the health so that you carry on in this tiring work :teaching . but am asking what is the the number of your last lessons ? I mean how many lesson of yours do we have on you tube thank you sir .
"Lavar los trastes" (wash the dishes) in some parts of the Spanish world means "to wash butts" For a more generic expression, "lavar los platos" o "lavar la vajilla" would make it more universal.
Hola; I need help, if i wanna say sleep, how do i say that without refereeing to a WE,HE,ME. just sleep. would i simply say dormir, because i was tough that was TO SLEEP.
one problem I have is the names for the lessons, 01? doesn't that mean this is the first lesson? I've been viewing them in the order uploaded, but that doesn't work if you change one. Could you please make sure it's clear which lesson follows which.
Hola Senor Jordan.
Hi there! Thank you so much for this helpful video, also can you tell when will we use siendo or estando, I'm learning Spanish on my own, I accidentally found out these two on Spanishdict but couldn't work them out :(
One slight mistake when you had Está tendiéndola on the screen you said Estoy* instead of Está, but again very minor and I'm no one really picked up on it. Anyways, excellent channel.
Sr. Jordan, a mi me gustan mucho tus videos pero creo que es un poco mas facil entender para nosotros si tu explicas el proceso como esto, quitar el AR, ER e IR y los reemplaza con ANDO, IENDO o YENDO.
anyone else here bc ur teacher made u watch this?
thotithehotti yes, life...
ya
Yes bruh...
Its just kinda wasting time, mi amogo.
GANG GANG YES
No Im here bc my teacher sucks at teaching this 😂
i feel like if spanish teachers taught spanish using english more often it would be so much more helpful like how senor jordan teaches
Present progressive
Estar + AR verbs
AR verbs drop AR and add

Estar + ER & IR verbs
ER and IR verbs drop the stem and add -iendo
When an er and ir verb ends in Vowel before the stem the i becomes y
Leer -> leyendo instead of leiendo
There are also some exceptions
Like dormir which becomes
Durmiendo instead of Dormiendo
Or decir which becomes
Diciendo instead of deciendo
I'm here because of the "shutdown".
Che Yums same

same, honestly. This would've been so easier if we were in class
I agree. I am more of a first person learner, meaning I've got to be able to ask questions and such.
Ye

we can attach the 'lo' 'la' of the direct objects to the end of these is all. It would be like saying:

estoy leyendo = I am reading (right now)
