If possible, could you add context when insulting my mental faculties for not noticing 'something' so that I at least know what 'something' is at issue?
For context it's likely various things. Not being able to figure out how to board onto the station. Not being able to to figure out how to access your status window (2 times now.. think once in your previous episode). And in the last episode you couldn't figure out how to do research (though you figured that out at the beginning of this episode so no big deal). Please don't bite my head off again, I am just giving your the context you asked for.
@tmb-gaming2604 *" Not being able to figure out how to board onto the station"* - It would have helped to remind me that it was the station for helping out the miners. Yes, that was not working for some reason. I figured it was bugged, and went back after the pre-release patch and tried again. *"Not being able to to figure out how to access your status window"* - Will need more context for that. Sorry. I know it only appears if you have a status right? You mean when there were no status effect in place? If so, yeah, I think they were at the center of the screen when i first found them. But when you don't have any status active you need to press a key. Not sure why that's a big deal to be honest. Again, hard to remember this far back, but it's probably just I was looking for it where I first saw it. *" And in the last episode you couldn't figure out how to do research (though you figured that out at the beginning of this episode so no big deal)."* - Yeah, the end of last episode and start of this episode ran into each other, so basically you're saying that it took me too long to figure it out? OK. Again, not sure why this invites scorn, but at least I now know why. *"Please don't bite my head off again, I am just giving your the context you asked for."* - I didn't bite your head off. I simply asked you to stop nibbling at mine. Perhaps you didn't mean to do that. But that is very much how it came across.
Oh so you know that you Don't need to actually buy a ship at all. All the best ones are earned for free. The Freestar questline gives you one at the end. You can steal one during the Crimson Fleet questline. Just about every main story questline will give you a ship. Plus there's side quests that also give you good ships & gear.
@@GophersVids You responded to the wrong person btw XD. *"Will need more context for that. Sorry. I know it only appears if you have a status right?"* At the bottom right it lists it. So ya, when you have a status effect it shows up in the middle to make it more noticable. But when you don't have a status effect, it disappears but still shows on the bottom right on how to get there where it lists all the buttons to navigate the menu. So for context, in the last episode and this episode you were trying to see your stats, but didn't look at the bottom right where it lists the button to get there. *"OK. Again, not sure why this invites scorn, but at least I now know why."* I most certainly didn't scorn you. And if you seriously think I did, I want you to actually quote me doing so. The only thing I ever said is that you seem to struggle with the UI in the beginning, and then proceeded to act like that was me insulting you, which is is not at all. Maybe you and I view the word "struggle" differently. I don't know. For me saying you struggle is just me saying that you don't figure it out easily. That it takes you time. Which as far as I am aware is just me stating a fact. Where exactly is it belittling? *" I didn't bite your head off. I simply asked you to stop nibbling at mine. Perhaps you didn't mean to do that. But that is very much how it came across."* I did nothing. My comment was one of the least negative, but for some reason you chose mine out of all the ones being harsh and accused me of crap I didn't do.
Lol these comments are crazy. Part of the charm of a Gopher video is yelling at your screen solutions to whatever issue he’s having knowing that he will eventually figure it out.
In this case, a bunch of these episodes were done pre-release. I also played this game pre-release and I will say that I ran into a bunch of issues where it wouldn't let me board places I was supposed to be able to and other assorted glitches that were resolved in the day 1 update. I wondered if that was the case with Gopher's not getting in to save the miners because I had run into that initially too
6:35 - This was the first and only guy in my entire playthrough where I just took out my shotgun and looted the quest item off his corpse. I don't know what exactly it is that makes exactly this scenario so aggravating, because there are a bunch of other "do this for me first" happenstances in this game I encountered previously, but this one was the one that ticked me off, and none since.
@@blaze2609 Sarah is more useless of a character than the adoring fan. She is so utterly bland, a parsecpooch plushie has her beat on personality and personal attachment value.
it's like watching a toddler learn how to walk and he just keeps stumbling every 5 meters. you want to help him but he has to learn it on his own... i also think he will never find the Status button where the health and all the numbers are... The UI designer from Bethesda should be forced to watch these videos and see this grown man struggle with this user interface so damn much.... how hard is it to design something intuitive that also gives the actual numbers and information people are looking for without hiding it in a sub sub sub menu.
@@ZeroB4NG *"it's like watching a toddler learn how to walk and he just keeps stumbling every 5 meters. you want to help him but he has to learn it on his own... "* - FFS
I assume it was bugged because nothing was happening when I pressed E. So I left thinking it would get fixed in a patch. And I went back 2 patches later and had no issues. But I'm being told it may have had something to do with the scanner and the fact that it was on when I was trying to hail it initially. I do know that when I switched to joystick the letter E was a little hit and miss, and I ended up remapping the target key to a joystick button, because I started having trouble even targetting ships and salvage if I used E.
Guys I understands the frustration, but why do you all feel the need to complain and to do it in such a mean spirited way? If you are so frustrated then feel free to stop watching, no need to bash the guy who goes out of his way to record and upload these vids for our enjoyment. If I had to speculate. most of the annoying things in the video is happening because of the fact that he is recording, atleast that's how im reading it, he does not want to interrupt the flow of the video with long pauses in gameplay by looking/ figuring out menus and such or to have to a bunch of weird cuts in post. Try to have some understanding, or atleast try to give helpful feedback. Also I believe this is recorded way in advance so don't expect the issuse to be adressed immediately, something to keep in mind when you comment. And Gopher, if your happen to read this I want you to know that I have been thoroughly enjoying the series so far and that I wish for it to continue for a long time. cheers.
*"because of the fact that he is recording"* This is understandable. Back when I recorded I missed a lot of stuff I normally wouldn't as well. However, when you are consistently missing things... it also would normally make sense to stop recording and take a closer look and figure out what it is you are missing. I get he doesn't want cuts or to stop the flow of the gameplay or anything, but to be frank .. how is fumbling through menus not interrupting the gameplay even more so than that? Knowing where things are would mean less interruptions in the future, right? And it would also be a more enjoyable experience for the audience. With that said, I still find his videos very enjoyable to watch. But yes, it can be frustrating sometimes XD.
@@tmb-gaming2604 Oh I totally argee with you, that would be the best way to handle the situation. I was just trying to explain what I thought was happening and why the people here should be nicer about it. ✌
Well he already does a lot of cuts for looting and other reasons, spending some time to fully read and learn the interface and then cutting out the footage would likely be a wise investment for future games.
Hate to ask on a Starfield video, but any plans for another Cyberpunk playthrough? I would love to see you play the DLC, and with a different life path the whole thing would be worth a replay.
Yes. Major plans. Just trying to find a gap in my Starfield play through AND giving a little time for mods to get updated for 2.0 :) I'm hoping to start playing in weeks, not months.
If you invest points in research, it will lead to breakthroughs which end up costing less resources...plus use synapse alpha and any other boosts you can use.
@@SeraphArmaros I don't think I was asking for that. Maybe I was asking for some sort of auto-equip/unequip? Was i getting in and out of my space suit constantly? If so, that would be it. It's just that I really am not keen on features that hide an item but still give you the benefits. I Later on it just wore me down and i started using it. But I would still prefer something that just took it on and off completely. I know that may seem odd to a lot of people, and I'll admit, in this game it makes less difference because in a lot of cases where combat is likely I wear the suit anyway. But I am sure there will be a mod for that sometime later anyway :)
@@GophersVids Ah, I see. Sorry for the misunderstanding, then. I like to play my Skyrim on hardcore survival role-playing mode with mods, so I kinda get it. I do agree the game could use a wardrobe feature so you can quickly equip and unequip outfits for certain situations.
@@GophersVids There's a status option listed in the bottom right. For those times you would like to check your status effects. You've probably figured that out by now though.
Husband comes in after walking the dog, says we'll have leftovers for lunch, and asks if there's a new Gopher video. Told him our visiting in-laws ate all the leftovers, and I'd check for a new video. Yes! Three minutes ago, see? Thanks, Gopher. Confrontation with in-laws averted.
Haha. When i tried to get to the Demos shipyard the first time for the same mission. I couldnt figure out how to dock to stations either. So i got a good chuckel out of Gopher doing the same thing i did.
Ive heared that in the recent patch that added detailed maps, custom interior ship options etc. That you can now reselect new traits when you start NG+...anyone know if that is factual???
you can get neon from vendors :) and anything else you need .also if you do the UC questline and help out sysdef against the crimson fleet you get 250000 credits at end, it is a long mission so to speak.
I wanted to start with making a businessman type character (like quark from Deep Space Nine) not a fighter or anything . But it just became reasonable for me to avoid fighting by sneaking. Then I reasoned my character would use a long range weapon if he can’t sneak pass. And I’m a stealth Archer Bethesda’s done it again
Not sure if it was actually just a prelaunch issue or not, but from what was shown, I think the problem was you had the scanner open. That's just based off of what was shown. I think it is kind of like how you can't open doors and such with the scanner open on foot. Also the point marker has to be approached instead of just a docking hatch which is why later when he talked about the problem without the scanner on he still couldn't dock. I mention the prelaunch thing in case it was a deal from before the first patch. Even people who did the premium edition still had the Day 1 patch. I don't know if that was the case for Gopher when recording this episode who I think said he got a review copy of the game. I remember hearing from someone else who had a review copy of the game talking about how the premium edition early access did already have the "Day 1" patch and there were a lot issues that fixed.
@@GophersVids Maybe. I just know having the scanner active while doing things like that could cause problems. That isn't the case now, but I think that's because it was patched or something. I know I had problems before the recent patch with that. I did figure it out so I made sure not to have the scanner active when docking or trying to hail a ship or station, unless something else was causing the issue for me.
I do have to say that the Starfield UI is not terribly intuitive, compared to previous Bethesda, and that Todd Howard talked about how that was a specific design choice for them this time around to drive water cooler talk about "oh did you know you could do this" kind of thing. But, it always amazes me how so many people don't notice the options in the bottom corners of the screen. I also had to admit that I had trouble docking the first time as well, not remembering that you have to select the ship/station/whatever you want to dock with to get the docking and hailing prompt.
I call bs on that. Why he won't admit when they made a wrong choice is pretty sad. I'm glad the modding community always comes through but Bethesda really needs to stop relying on modders to fix the things they screw up.
What drives me nuts is how they bound the ship photo mode to the same button that repairs the ship. I get that it's probably a compromise for the limited buttons on a controller, but there's no excuse not to have a separate keybind on PC.
I'm on opposite side. Unfortunately many hates tutorials. There weren't many in Fallout 4 either. There is an ingame help menu, they could expand it further, but I'm also sure most didn't read current help menu either. It takes 2 clicks to find a relevant video about any topic.
Just commenting to say I think I prefer you, Gopher, playing through this than some others I know of. Anyway, I am going back to lurk mode, and enjoy the play through.
So going by Gopher's pinned comment: Is it safe to say Gopher has around 100 episodes banked up? Cuz, that is awesome and I am real excited to see more!
Holy Guacamole people, y'all need to take a chill pill before watching these vids! Forget about how unintuitive the UI can be, we are talking about Gopher here, THE MOST immersive LPer I have ever seen in ~15 years of watching different LPs. Do you not understand that such deep connection with the character in the game (a.k.a. "role playing") requires very serious mental efforts? That it is hard to pull such feat in perfect conditions, when you are calm, relaxed and focused with nothing distracting you, and our everyday life is notorious for NOT providing such conditions too often? How comes people don't understand that such mental focus requires forgoing paying attention to other small details around you in the game? Not to mention that because the whole "how can he not see it!?" thing happens naturally, it is very entertaining to watch, especially anticipating the upcoming facepalm in the future, when Gopher eventually figures it out? Jeez...😤
Look Gopher you and I are about the same age I'm guessing after watching your vids and listening to your references over the years. Even I read the whole damn screen (UI) to see the controls for all the various interfaces. Alright comment section what is the over and under on how many episodes before he reads the whole UI? We are at #17 now.
Ya, sadly I don't really get it. Anytime I start a new game I always go through the UI, every inch of it. But honestly, this is a Gopher thing. In just about every game I have ever seen him play he struggles with UI, or rather it takes him a very long time to get used to navigating it.
*"Look Gopher you and I are about the same age I'm guessing after watching your vids and listening to your references over the years. Even I read the whole damn screen (UI) "* - Again, someone else made a comment about my age here. Getting a little sick of it to be honest. But I'll answer your question: Never. I pretty much never 'read the whole UI'. Not even sure what we are talking about here. But if I missed some UI prompt, yeah, that's normal.
@@alexwalters35 *"That's the thing. So much of his complaints about games over the years are because of his lack of patience. "* - I lack patience? Well I guess it's better than the age comments. We're just different. *"In just about every game I have ever seen him play he struggles with UI"* - Not really. You guys are assuming I 'struggle' with something because I don't engage with it the same way, or to the same degree that you do. Hey Gopher, I absolutely adore you playthroughs Question: If these videos were recorded before the release does this mean it's an unmodded playthrough?
The footage is actually really old. Presumably he recorded this a few hours after getting access to the early reviewer copy, it seems this is still the same play session as that. It's also unfortunate he's had to go so long without the local map 🤣😂🤣
Am I the only person who dislikes those sorts of options? :) I mean, I caved eventually and started using it. But it never felt right. I'd much prefer a proper auto-unequip feature instead.
@@GophersVids I never use it. I prefer to unequip the helmet/spacesuit. Using a feature to hide it breaks the immersion. Because the NPCs will not know the difference. Like when we used non wrist mounted Pipboy mods in Fallout 4 for example.
@@GophersVids I normally would as well, but it's a bit more difficult in this game because the armor system is attached to the spacesuits. Meaning auto-unequip would probably get in the way a lot as there are plenty of breathable environments where you would still technically need the armor it provides like in combat. And since NPCs rarely ever comment on your spacesuit, just hiding it is the best option. I think the armor system should have been done differently so you don't have to wear a space suit everywhere.
@@tmb-gaming2604 *"I normally would as well, but it's a bit more difficult in this game because the armor system is attached to the spacesuits. "* - I ended up using it just to save my sanity. That and the fact that if you land on a planet before equipping the space suit and helmet there's a chance it will eject you 400m away and you'll start dying :)
You know folks the UI isn't the best and making a let's play, especially the way Goph does it, is a whole nother animal. You give it a try, remain in character, be entertaining, don't google everything to see what, where and how to do everything so as to remain spontaneous and then see how you do. It's not easy. No one makes playthrus like Goph does. The amount of if time and effort he puts into a playthrough is way over and beyond what I've seen anywhere else. The fact that you are unaware of it by just watching the vids is a sign how well he does this stuff. Now just for Gopher, I think I saw a vid that said the "help" section in settings, maybe, is not like a game support but more like a users manual for the systems in SF. Not that I plan to read it all😂😂 And I have seen lots of youtubers have issues with docking. Tbh Gopher, I think most of your viewers just want to help and don't really understand what it's like to read all those comments and how negative they come across. And a few are just Aholes. Plus when you're so far ahead people can think you're not listening to them.
I find it interesting that you chose two traits (Hero Worshipped, Alien DNA) that you just got rid of at the first opportunity. Seems like a waste to me. BTW, I like how you thought Vasco dropped you out and relied on the low gravity...on Earth, which has exactly 1g, the same gravity as we currently experience.
It's his first blind playthrough, most of the other traits are either uninteresting or directly involve you with a faction that at the start of the game you have no way of knowing who you're allying yourself with, personally i think the only fun trait is kid stuff because you get multiple interactions with your parents and it's just wholesome vibes
I don't think he has space for the fan at the time, and he played with alien dna a lot but he is having really bad medpack luck, so it's understandable.
I think he stays there? I never chose it so I'm unsure, but I think he can go back and get him, he may have just forgotten, or as Gopher enjoys rping, his character may have forgotten, he's been rather busy running around.@@tmb-gaming2604
@@tmb-gaming2604 I don't know. You might be able to recruit him again, but the whole point of the trait was that you get an annoying fan who says annoying things to you but can be a follower. That seemed to be a pretty straightforward description, and his interaction with the fan was funny, but it seems a wasted opportunity to spend a trait on something that you're just going to interact with once. I can't see his character suddenly changing to be like, "Oh, yeah, I want that guy on my ship now."
That man standing near the ship as it launched should have been turned into powdered toast, then remain as a permanent fixture upon the wall he was plastered across.
I find it intriguing how you figured out how to use the thruster function on your ship so fast yet couldn't figure out how to dock at station at this point in time after having already done it once with Moara's ship
Not sure what you mean to be honest. You dock at stations using a key. Q by default. Y on controller. But you need the hail option to appear when you target it.

@@GophersVidshuh, I guess you were doing it accidentally without realizing at 25:19 with that little sideways drift, that's kinda funny 😁 As for the targeting that kinda makes sense, I've had a few times where I couldn't target the ship or planet I wanted, usually due to other sensor contacts being in the same vicinity to my crosshair when trying to target
Being completely honest, while I've *adored* this game so far a lot of the stuff you're getting stuck on like the lack of docking, the status screen just straight up isn't very intuitive. I understand peoples' inclination is to insult you but I spent 20 minutes _myself_ trying to dock with that station. You're _first_ introduction to docking in the game, I think people forget the ship was already selected and highlighted so it never even gives you the context clues that you have to 'click' to get those options and _then_ it doesn't tell you you have to be within so many meters of it...again, the docking with Moara you're already there close enough 9/10. As for the status screen, sure, it IS there in the bottom right but these are NOT typically screens hidden by a button press, they're typically within other screens or just on that main screen, that you have to press a different button entirely AND while ONLY in that menu is just...not very friendly. I love this game but if anyone is trying to get your go...pher...for not knowing something the game doesn't intelligently explain is just silly to me. It needs, bare minimum, a proper tutorial because there's STILL stuff I'm learning 95 hours in that should have been basic info...because the game doesn't tell you.
Personally I'm waiting for that lightbulb moment when he realises that Ballistics stacks with pistols rifles and Shotguns. frankly I find the laser weapons a bit naff
I've already spent a few perks on lasers and none on ballistics, was hoping for more variety and more cool laser guns but there's just so many more ballistic weapons than lasers I feel I wasted perks
Hay Gopher, the container downstairs behind the research station is linked to all the other crafting stations so you never have to take everything out of your safe upstairs and lug it downstairs when you want to craft, it has infinite storage as well, a great QOL TIP!!
No it is not, unless you use a mod as I do. The basement container even resets itself in its default state loosing all your stuff! But as I said, it is moddable and can then be used safely and linked to the benches as can the bedroom safe.
Not that this individual would steal guns, jump packs and space suits but if a relative of Lenoard made it to the stars....modding weapons and armor will remove the stolen tag.
well when are you going to check the tabs at bottom of menu's where it clearly in brackets says click to hide suit and/or helmets also same place status will show char info DOH
A few weeks ago DOH. Or did you mean when will I start using that feature DOH? At some point I did break and start using it, but I never liked it. I'd much prefer an auto-unequip than a hide feature.
i know this was recorded weeks ago but im waiting for the point where it sets in that this isnt Fallout in space and what we know from past games doesnt always correlate to Starfield, took me a good minute to come to terms with that myself
wonder how long for a scrap mod or do you think Bethesda will notice their folly and fix the whole can't swap mods thing. the whole crafting idea is rather broken in this game.

I also played this game pre-release and I will say that I ran into a bunch of issues where it wouldn't let me board places I was supposed to be able to and other assorted glitches that were resolved in the day 1 update. I wondered if that was the case with Gopher's not getting in to save the miners because I had run into that initially too
The guy who calls you Charlie-3 is my favorite
It might be a tie for me between him and The Valentine, the sea shanty guy's ship.
Just to randomly put this here, I love your videos Gopher. Thank you so much for sharing your playthrough with us and making a depressed guy smile. :)
I must say, the random space encounters are some of my favorites, and i hope Bethesda adds more in the future. Charlie-3 guy, you keep on truckin'!

And Gopher, if your happen to read this I want you to know that I have been thoroughly enjoying the series so far and that I wish for it to continue for a long time. cheers.
*"because of the fact that he is recording"*
This is understandable.

There was actually a patch prior to day 1 too, mid way through the review period. So it was the scanner that prevented it from working?
Agreed!@@bhart3321
What drives me nuts is how they bound the ship photo mode to the same button that repairs the ship. I get that it's probably a compromise for the limited buttons on a controller, but there's no excuse not to have a separate keybind on PC.

Is the storages linked with the crafting/research stations in the Lodge?
Jeez...😤
Exactly! it's part of the entertainment, but some of these entitled commentators feel so out of touch, with their "Aktchually..." way of thinking.
Look Gopher you and I are about the same age I'm guessing after watching your vids and listening to your references over the years. We are at #17 now.
Pretty sure he's said that he finally gets it on episode 50ish.

If I wanted to sit down and memorize the entire control set before playing the game, I probably could. But I'd need to want to do that. I'd need a reason. And in this case, I don't even know what it is I am supposed to have missed in the UI that is so critical and so damning of my mental faculties.

Hey Gopher, I absolutely adore you playthroughs
Question: If these videos were recorded before the release does this mean it's an unmodded playthrough?
Being 16 minutes in, and not knowing how old the raw footage is: The automatically hide option for helmet and spacesuit are wonderful.
@@GophersVids
I normally would as well, but it's a bit more difficult in this game because the armor system is attached to the spacesuits.
But honestly I don't mind losing all the armor buffs when not in the space suit. Made me feel more vulnerable running around town. But constantly having to take it on and off wore me down.
Not that I plan to read it all😂😂
And I have seen lots of youtubers have issues with docking.

Wait, will the adoring fan not come back if you choose the option he chose?
I think he stays there? I never chose it so I'm unsure, but I think he can go back and get him, he may have just forgotten, or as Gopher enjoys rping, his character may have forgotten, he's been rather busy running around.@@tmb-gaming2604
@@tmb-gaming2604 I don't know. You might be able to recruit him again, but the whole point of the trait was that you get an annoying fan who says annoying things to you but can be a follower.
Oh you missed it. That was basically the first time i looked at the character skill menu.
