My father had the “pleasure” to have one dentist like this when he was a kid. A few weeks later, after every visit to this dentist, he had dental pain. He went to another professional, and she told him someone has been damaging his teeth. He was not the only victim.
@@danielfenton4230 the first dentist to diagnose a million things in my mouth was a femail, didn't go back to office after getting a root canal at a specialist that the place I go to now suggested for me to go to, they also said not much was wrong other then the root canal that needed to be done.
In my late teens a dentist told me I needed crowns on six of my front top row teeth, and to discuss the cost with my parents. I was floored, and said, "What? Is this medically necessary or just cosmetic?" to which she then admitted it was just cosmetic, and I declined. I mean, at least she was honest, but she initially framed it like it wasn't optional.
Wait to see the level that a car dealer can reach in this very particular field... You have to see it to believe it. I can't even figure out how they manage not to be inundated with legal action until bankruptcy.
I'm a dental nurse and I've heard stories about dental fraud before but these stories, I can't believe they got away with it for so long. I audible gasped when I heard William wasn't sterilizing his instruments. I feel for everyone of these patients.
I had a hole drilled into a hot tooth when I was 3. (winter 1998) No numbing agent at all because the dude was taught baby teeth didn't have nerves, thus I wouldn't feel anything. He kicked me out when my eyes watered and I cried. My mom saw the whole thing. Still struggle with that trauma & can't go to the dentist alone. Edit: He left the hole in the tooth when he kicked me out of his office.
I had a dentist who pursposely didn't do a good job at putting braces so they would fall off a lot and I had to go often to get them reattached, she also left the wires too long, it stung my mouth and it was painful. It all ended when my dad had enough and screamed to her at the top of his lungs the worst insults you could possibly imagine and threatened to sue her. Miraculously, I never had anymore problems with my braces since then.
I had the opposite happen to me. As a kid I was constantly complaining to my dentist about tooth pain. He told me I was fine. It finally got so bad my mom took me to a new dentist who immediately told me I should have had braces years previously and I had impacted wisdom teeth. After braces and wisdom tooth removal I've been pain free since. A good dentist is so important!
So do I ! My current dentist always leaves cavities on purpose to charge more expensive work later to social security. I'm used now to go back home and see in the mirror that she left cavities without giving me any new appointment ! I'd like to change practicioner but live in a "medical desert".
@@francois3116 some cavities can actually remineralize even if they seem like dark spots on your teeth, as long as their isn't an actual hole in that space then as long as you take care of your teeth with fluoride (toothpaste) those spots should be ok!
Yeah my dentist is a very nice lady but she always cleans out 4 ‘cavities’ from every single one of her patients. I had one cavity but she said she cleared out four. Other than that I don’t think she commits fraud but….. I can’t really be sure. Luckily I have a relative who’s a dentist so I always discuss anything I’m about to get done with my dentist.
Same, they told me and my fam that we had cavities and drilled into our teeth and refilled it only for us to have other dentists tell us there weren’t any cavities in our records and it didnt look like we had cavities around where they drilled. They drilled eight of my mom’s teeth
This happens so often. I went to a dentist who told me I would need a tooth pulled immediately, or I'd be in "unbearable pain" within 2 weeks. I refused. That was 5 years ago. I now have a dentist I go to routinely, and I still have all my teeth. There is no indication that I will need any teeth pulled any time soon.
When I was 20 years old my dentist told be I had beginning paradentose 🥺 years later I visited another dentist, who said I didnt. Im not sure whos right here its scary:(
I went to a dentist recently, a private dentist and not my NHS dentist - they said I needed 4 fillings, a root canal and both my wisdom teeth removed. I didn't trust it, I went to my NHS dentist and they said I had a leak in an old filling, and that was all I needed. So many scam dentists out there
To everyone here who has ever been victimized by an awful dentist like these, in childhood and/or adulthood, my heart goes out to you. I feel absolutely disgusted with dentists who do these things to people just trying to seek help or seek a routine check-up. WTAF. I can’t even fathom it, harming and traumatizing people for the sake of money. It’s… ugh. Truly devastating to me that this is a real thing.
after i got married i went to my wife's dentist now that i was on her insurance. I had a cavity on a molar and was happy to get it filled. he took x rays and spotted 11 other cavities! when i went back to have the next one filled i told him i had pain in a specific tooth. I was shocked and a bit upset when he insisted on working on a different tooth. after that we decided to see my toddlers dentist as she was in town and we were already bringing my son. She took and reviewed my x-Rays and praised me on having NO CAVITY'S!!! he had planned on drilling and filling 10 more of my healthy teeth! Don't trust these snakes, if you have no pain and a dentist is trying to sell you dental work you need to get a second opinion.
At one point, my dentist told my mom that I need some brace to correct the 2 canines in my mouth as they were facing forwards a bit. It wasn't necessary to do since she told me that it was only for aesthetic. I've had the same dentist for years and never had any bad experience with him. And most of my visits are for a yearly check up. My last check up was on dec 22 and there was nothing bad going on. A small cavity that needs to be flossed but other than that, there were almost nothing bad on my teeth after 4 years not visiting the dentist. I do trust my dentist. Also, I do think some countries have more strict rules on dental procedures than others. I live in Canada so it might be the case.
As a dentist, getting a second opinion is always fine and reasonable but the attitude of no pain; no problem is a terrible one. By the time you have active and particularly unprovoked pain in a tooth you are often at the stage where you have to choose between expensive root canal or extraction of the tooth where if you were seen before a simple filling may have been fine. Pain in a tooth is a very bad sign indeed.
@@Ultrasonic00 I never said no pain no problem, I said no pain second opinion... and for good reason. This guys office was lined with all types of awards and accolades but wanted to drill half my mouth for no reason other then to bill my insurance. He refused to work on the one tooth that actually hurt because it would have been harder for him then drilling a healthy one.
Eleven cavities compared to none...what a crook. I was told I had two cavities by my dentist once, but then had to switch dentists before they were filled, and the new dentist found new cavities. I have been visiting the new dentist ever since, and have had zero cavities while visiting there. When I asked the new dentist why I was told I had two cavities before while she found no cavities, she said that some practitioners are more aggressive than others. I don't know if my old dentist actually was doing anything wrong, as it might've just been a case of differing opinions, but with eleven cavities, there's no question there.
@@juanstarnotip8122 I'm not going to take away from your personal experience, but if you want a second opinion EVERY TIME you get standard non emergency dental work done you're going to cause yourself a lot of headaches. Find a dentist you trust and then listen to their advice unless something is clearly changing to an outrageous level.
My dad chipped his teeth, like 4, when he was a kid one day when he fell down. My monster of a grandma (story for an other day) make him go to one of her dentist friends. Instead of any other procedure, the "dentist" decided to extract those healthy teeth, and one more for good messure, and give my dad dentures at the age of 12, the kind of denture that you can take off. He can't use permanent dentures cause while extracting the teeth she destroyed his jaw. Turns out the dentist was not a dentist just a woman who got there hands in some dental tools, her office was is her home, and God knows is everything was clean and sterilized. The worst part? My grandma knew she was not a dentist but let her work on my dad cause "that poor girl needed the work" (I have to say that my grandma never let her friend work on her, but gladly gave her my dad and uncles ALL THE TIME). FU grandma
FU for roasting your gramma. She took your dad to the dentist, didn't she? How does that make her evil. It seems like you are the bitter entitled little demon.
I remember my dentist said I had 4 cavities and told me come next appointment. So I did and my other doctor checked it. Turns out, I don’t have cavities and she said all my teeth were perfectly fine. :v making me feel don’t trust them at all.
@@handlemyd- I don’t really know. They told me I have it. I went back again I guess for filling but the different doctor said my teeth doesn’t have cavities. Made me really confused af.
I have been a victim of this exact thing since childhood. I have over $50,000 into my mouth. Not a single natural tooth left. My mouth is entirely crowns. Once you start getting a few, the harder porcelain material damages surrounding teeth. It's a domino effect that turns you into a lifelong customer. I have also lost 3 teeth from poorly done root canals from this same dentist, so basically paying to have teeth taken away from me that I already paid a lot to have "fixed."
That's why it's better to get back teeth done in gold, I'm a dentist, my back teeth are all gold, some crowns done 40 years ago. Many reasons gold is superior there and not a large difference in price
I've probably spent close to $50k on my fragile teeth, only to lose most of them due to a few unscrupulous dentists. As such, I've stopped going altogether, even for cleanings, until one eventually gets so bad that I have to have it pulled. For years, I hid behind my hand when I spoke and apologized to others for not having a nice dental appearance. Now? No dentures, no implants, and yet, I still sing on stages with my broken smile and missing teeth. My deepest empathy goes out to all who have suffered so greatly at the hands of sadistic, greedy dentists.
I have often felt afraid of this, that they were drilling where there was no cavity. My then boyfriend was told he needed a canine removed and replaced with an implant. I smelled a rat and took him to my dentist for a second opinion. My dentist confirmed the diagnosis. Boyfriend then went ahead with the lengthy, expensive and uncomfortable procedure. He had been in excruciating pain. But who can afford to have everything checked twice? And what if it was his dentist that cracked the canine in the first place? And he was a guy with otherwise perfect teeth, who never ate sweets. We go to great lengths to gather together enough money to have dental work done, sometimes over a year or more, asking for dentist money for birthdays, forgoing other things, moving in with someone to get on their dental plan, etc. What a terrible crime.
Thank you for showing people how to avoid these dentist scams at the end, sucks Scott committed alot of fraud people trusted him and he took advantage of them because he was greedy, glad he was caught in the end he deserved it stay safe out there
My mom had all her teeth pulled when she was a young teen. The dentist told her parents that it would save them money in the long run not having to deal with dental issues. Since then, my mom always had problems with her dentures. While watching the TV show Breaking Amish, one of the young Amish women also had no teeth and dentures and her parents were told the same thing by her dentist. For my mom, it was in the 1940s but for this Amish woman it was just about 10 years ago, so it's still happening.
Wow, that sounds like some early 1800s logic--no teeth, no teeth problems. Dental regulations should be strict, and only those who are actually qualified should be allowed to practice.
Before fluoridation in drinking water and in most toothpastes, it was pretty common for people to have really rotten teeth at a fairly young age. We love our carbs! It still doesn’t make it okay to just rip everything out, though.
I was never afraid of the dentist growing up. Now at 23 I'm terrified all because of one visit. Had a root canal done, their drill broke in the root of my tooth, and they didn't tell me till they were "done." They then filled the tooth because removing it was not in their abilities. To top it off, I didn't receive a form til afterwards. The one that reads what can happen during a procedure and what you could expect. :') so I've had a metal drill bit in my root for 6 months now
I've never had a good dental hygiene since I was a kid and have never been to an actual dentist myself until after I was in my early 20s and was already working. When I was living in the Philippines, I had dental work done by some resident dental students for free from one of the Public Hospitals ongoing dental program there and their work deserved a 10-star! Not only was the entire check up to post-op process less painful than I have always imagined, but each of the dentists who worked on me was very respectful and made me feel comfortable all the way through. I now live in NZ and have found a dental practice who only does what is absolutely medically necessary for me and doesn't promote all kinds of expensive procedures I won't need/want, especially with dental expenses here being very expensive. It's a shame that some professionals just don't live up to what they have sworn in oath to do for their clients/patients all in the name of money.
I haven't gone to a dentist in a decade because I didn't trust my dentists anymore. They kept telling me the teeth that had no problems needed to be worked on while the ones that bothered me were ignored.
This is why I tell people that just because they have a degree doesn't always mean what they're doing, or corruption doesn't care which position you're in.
With all the discussion about terrible nurses and doctors lately I feel the need to shout this from the roof tops. So many people will rush to the defense of ALL nurses and doctors while actively ignoring how terrible, miserable, and evil many of them can be, including in a discussion ABOUT a bad nurse/doctor
Its like those doctors on the internet who are telling everyone that bacon is perfectly healthy and vegetables are bad and they are actually growing in popularity. Some people get degrees just to spread the complete opposite of what they learned.
Nobody goes into dentistry because they want to help people or save lives. If you want to help people or save lives, you go to medical school and become a physician. Most dentists choose that career because they want to make a lot of money. If you are in doubt, just read about how fee-for-service healthcare in the USA works. It's exactly what it sounds like. The more services the healthcare provider performs, the more money they can bill to the patient's insurance. Therefore, dentists actually get rewarded for performing unneeded procedures.
I used to go to a female dentist in our small town. She ruined my parent's teeth, and they constantly complained about pain. One day they made her do a check up ( she said there are no problems ) and then the same day they went to another dentist and he said there are many cavities and bad dental work... Thank God we stopped going there , she didn't get to ruin my teeth. 😅 Update: Just to clear things out. My parents are doing ok now. The new dentist fixed their teeth and they feel no pain.
My dentist growing up literally restrained me to the chair. I couldn't tell you the last time I went to the dentist because of this trauma. Currently I have a completely broken tooth (orthodontist left a bracket and it decayed) and basically any filling I've had has come out. At this point I'm just happy my wisdom teeth are coming in without issue.
I got restrained too but that's because I was being monstrous and screaming at them. Might have even tried to bite them, not sure. Why did they restrain you? Did they have a reason or were they just vile?
Doesn't surprise me. I even have a theory that it happened to me when I left my childhood dentist. On my last visit the newest dentist suddenly told me I needed a bunch of fillings in my front teeth. Unfortunately neither my parents or I questioned it.
Same here. I had to switch dentists because of a change in insurance, and at the very first appointment, my mother was told I had a cavity bad enough that it warranted a crown. It hadn't even been a whole year before my last visit at the previous dentists office (which i had no cavity then), and now this new guy was saying I needed a complete crown. My mom never questioned the dentist either. I had pain for the whole 6 months of having that crown as well as sever inflammation to my gums surrounding that crown. Eleven years later, I'm on my third crown with no guarantee that my tooth won't have any more problems and eventually need to be pulled. I was 9 years old when the quack money hungry dentist damaged my adult tooth to put a crown on it.
@@imyoursalad2803 I don't believe the dentist I saw is still working at the place I went to. It sucks that your mom didn't care about getting some kind of payment back, at least for your pain and suffering. Getting a crown is painful and a bit traumatic, honestly. I've had problems trusting dentists since then.
On Long Island New York, Suffolk County, there was a dentist that did this. He did it to me and my sister and roughly 50 other children in our area. He was falsifying X Rays and saying we needed cavities when we had none. He'd drill to the root, cover it up and wait a few years for the inevitable root canal. He was caught by my 7th filling in as many months, was put in jail and was sued for what he did on top of which. My parents alone received $10,000 (This is in 1970s money) in compensation and there were 49 other people being paid out. So this is nothing new.
You forgot about the monster pediatric dentist who pulled children’s teeth when they were perfectly healthy, didn’t use anesthesia, and screamed at them. I can’t remember his name but HE was def the worst.
I just overcame my fear of the dentist 2 days ago. I was in elementary school & used to have to BEG to be numbed. And when they did choose to numb me (shouldn't have had to ask) they weren't thorough or slow enough so I still ended up feeling pain. After having a molar extracted while I wasn't numb I developed a phobia of the dentist. It was too much pain for a 7 year old to bear. Got to the point where I needed a root canal & my jaw was throbbing. I finally went to a new dentist 20 years later & broke down in tears in his chair over what happened as a child. When I say I experienced 0 discomfort that day, I mean it. I had no idea it was supposed to be PAINLESS! if you've experienced pain or abuse at the hands of a dentist, do not throw away your own health over it. There are gentle and caring doctors still out there!!
Also. The methods have changed. It wasn't painless when I was a kid from any dentist. Now they have better tools and methods, so it is mostly painless with a little discomfort when injecting or from long opening of mouth.
A family dentist performed dental fraud, he stated that me, my brother, and all my cousins needed crowns when we were young, so our parents agreed, turns out we didn't need the crowns and that guy disappeared.
my mom had a dentist like this as a kid. her family had really good insurance, so the dentist would take his picks and scrape cavities into their teeth then say they all needed fillings so he could get paid for the procedures. They stopped going to that dentist once my grandmom found out what was going on.
I feel a bit better knowing I'm not the only who fell for this. I had a dentist convince me to have three perfectly good silver fillings removed and replaced with ceramic (I think?) fillings, which broke over the following five years. By that point I no longer had insurance and the teeth eventually broke. By the time I could afford to go back, all three teeth had to be removed and now my teeth have shifted around; some of them are crooked and others have big gaps between them. The other silver fillings I have, all of which are 30+ years old, have given me no problems at all. I'm still really angry at that dentist.
Same :( I have a lot of filings crumbling out of my mouth and my silver one is holding strong from when I was a teen. My old dentist kept putting the Temps in over and over and blaming them on my teeth. Now I wonder if he was just committing insurance fraud. My teeth are so jacked up now :/
@@korin1131 I'm so sorry. It's so infuriating knowing your teeth were fine, and then somebody deliberately destroys them for what? A few hundred dollars? And then your smile, your ability to chew are messed up forever and you're stuck with it. 😡
@@korin1131 "silver" fillings are dentel amalgam, which also contain mercury. It's alloyed with the silver so it doesn't go anywhere but some people are convinced that it has to be removed Right Now even at the risk of your teeth.
@@ferretyluv There are no such thing as "ceramic" fillings they are a UV cured resin polymer composite. They just call them "ceramic" because "plastic fillings" sounds like they wouldn't last as long as metal ones (which they don't). The thing that makes amalgam fillings last is that the silver in them kills bacteria at the margin of the filling preventing further decay which is why they last a lifetime.
This is why people don’t trust dentist or doctors. It’s so sad and infuriating that people use their authority to harm others. As someone going into the medical field I hope I can change this, even a little.
In some countries those who can study subjects such as dentistry is limited to students with very high marks. That means that those who may be good instead of very good at memorizing are not given a chance albeit they may have a different approach to things although that would not apply to everyone.
I have a fear of the dentist ever since I was a kid, ate too much candy and had to get my teeth pulled out. And yesterday I just got my teeth pulled out and It actually went well. The doctor was nice and told me what's going to happen. I think she could tell I was nervous, also when she tried pulling out my teeth, I would freeze and tense up. She had to tell me to relax a couple of times.
A special sort of person needs to be a dentist to children. Kids whose parents didn't look after their teeth well need to be guarded from trauma that having a lot of work at a young age can cause. There are some dentists who, even if technically competent, shouldn't treat kids who need something more than a basic cleaning.
@@zoyadulzura7490 The dentist that pulled out my tooth when I was a kid was fine. I was just a crybaby, and refused to let go of my mom. Even when the dentist explained, I saw the dentist equipment and went into panic mode. 😅😅😅
Need a dental referral at Christ Health Center. The dentist there have a gumball machine full trinkets you got with a token from the dentist. I tried to get something out of the machine and realized you need tokens to get it. Take good care of your teeth children. Your too old for Medicaid dental services after 21. Medicaid dental insurance is only for Children. I'm looking for affordable dental care. that's the reason I have these papers from the doctor 💊🏥.
I remember going to the dentist to make a removal of a tooth. I wasn't brushing my teeth and a tooth eventually begun to hurt. So I started to make appointments with a dentist and she eventually told that the tooth had to be removed. On that day, I remember that on the first time I went there she said that, If I felt pain, I would rise my arm to let her know, and I did that 2-3 times and she applied anesthesia all of those times, I eventually told myself to stop and endure the pain until she removed it. I couldn't feel my mouth for like the rest of the day because of the amount of anesthesia she applied. At least I got a toy and Ice Cream after the removal… and I got to keep the tooth, although I don't know where it is now
I can't tell you how many thousands of dollars I have spent on dental care and now have full dentures. I had root canals that cost $1000. He punctured my sinus cavity and I had an awful infection within 2days. My face swelled, my eye swelled shut and i couldn't breathe out of my nose. After treatment for this it reoccurred within 2 weeks. He left a suture in which got infected. The root canal failed, no reimbursement and ended up paying more for an extraction. I can't eat most foods, and when i do the dentures fall out. I have not eaten in public for 7 yrs or with another person. I am very depressed and isolated. I can't afford implants to stabilize the dentures. I just watched a webinar that teaches dentists how to make more money, have more write offs and get more insurance reimbursements. Its disgusting
The exact thing happened to me! I was in hospital for 5 days after the dentist punctured my sinus, black and blue face, eye swelled shut and it felt like someone had their fingers in my eye socket trying to pry my eyeball out. They were putting so many different antibiotics in my iv bag trying to get something to work which caused thrush/candida infection. I have SEVERE PTSD from this and need to be sedated for some procedures. At least I survived some have died from this.
People like this are particularly vile. Like, someone mugging you is one thing. But a healthcare professional, or really any professional. Doing this. I think they deserve far, far harsher punishments than just a random mugger.
Once I had a severe caries. I visited a dantist, that recommended me a crown. Then I came to dantist I know in my native city, and he said: "Crown? What for? The tooth is not dead". He saved my tooth by filling it. And costed much cheaper. I always search for two oppinions. In place where I live, If you want to be treated with the best material you have to pay by yourself.
I remember how devastated I was to hear the first dentist I went to in two years tell me I needed eleven crowns because supposedly all of my old ones had gone bad, on top of a root canal. I ended up getting the root canal with my old dentist while visiting my parents, and when I asked about the other crowns he was totally confused. He said I only had one crown that needed to be fixed, in a tooth that I knew had chipped. That was several years ago. A lot of those “needed crowns” have still never been needed according to dentists in several different cities I’ve lived in.
My dentist changed out all of my old silver fillings. I had them done when I was almost 18 yrs old and two of my fillings had actually become malleable and leaked which caused two of my teeth to break. Resulting in me needing a root canal in each tooth and a crown on each tooth. So he decided to get rid of all the others so it would not break anymore of my teeth. And I was super thankful. I hated the broken teeth as they were very painful. He didn't decided to replace all my silver fillings until I came in complaining of pain and he found the two broken teeth with the old leaking fillings.
Oh yeah. This is definitely a thing. I have gold crowns from severe decay, but a dentist claimed that I must replace the crowns or my teeth will be ruined. I was willing to get the work done, but my mom convinced me that it was a scam. I had them checked again during a routine government health checkup, and another dentist said they were fine 😅
My mother is in her 70’s. Her childhood dentist didn’t “believe in” Novocain and performed all their dental work without it. Her mother had a root canal done without any numbing. Once she discovered a dentist who wasn’t a monster, she got Novocain for everything, even a cleaning! She called the old dentist Dr. Torture.
As a retired dentist, I fully agree that there are dishonest dentists, too many I fear, but the vast majority, and I include myself, are hard working honest professionals. My crown percentage, was considerably lower than average.
I learned the hard way to be weary of cosmetic dentistries. I went to one around 10 years ago. I knew I had cavities, but each time I went in, the procedures got progressively more and more expensive. I stopped going after a visit costed me $1100. Sometimes, I wonder how many of the crowns I currently have were necessary.
My orthodontist told me that I needed to get many teeth pulled, recommended even a big operation, and insurance plans so that I could handle the high price. I was 18 years old and ignored it. I went to my trusted dentist, and he told me that my teeth are not anything dramatic
As a kid I had a dentist who constantly said I had tons of cavities. He billed our insurance thousands of dollars unknowingly because we had medicaid. The last time I saw him for a “cavity” I wasn’t fully numbed, I tried to tell him but he wouldn’t stop. When the dentist saw me crying he said “kids younger than you do this stop crying.” When we left I walked out before my mom and went to the car still crying. After I told my mom I wasn’t going back we went to another dentist who compared the xrays he took vs the ones the first dentist took and I had no cavities where the other dentist said I had 4.
That's why I am really happy with current dentist. He's kind and loves to make dad jokes, he also wants you to first try cheaper home treaments such as fluroid gels and stuff before he gives you the more expensive treatments unless he thinks it's absolutely necessary. Also he actually explains what's happening and how you can help it, like when I started my meds I didn't know it would reduce my salavia production and increase my chances for cavities, but he explained it at my last appointment and gave me tips on how to help that. And he's a dentist who actually compliments you if you're taking better care of your teeth at the next appoinment. All in all amazing dude. Luckily I got him and haven't encountered any horror dentists like this one in the video.
I went to a new dentist a few years back and they took an x-ray and claimed I had a lot that needed to be worked on, stating I had over 37 cavities and needed several teeth to be pulled. That was the first and last time I went there and instead just went right on back to my previous dentist who just says I should get my wisdom teeth pulled at each check up. I never do since they never hurt or anything like that. That new dentist I tried to go to got arrested about 3 weeks later
My mom recently had an event like this, and thank goodness for her intuition telling her to get a second opinion before anything could go any farther south than it had, she had to get two oppeeations in order to reverse the issues
My dentist did a root canal on my upper right incisor when I was 14. He did not tell anyone, even my mom. And he used a toxic filling🤬 Few years later I was told by another dentist that I had a lame root canal done... Now I have an incisor that is very weak and I'm constantly worrying about that tooth😊
I get fluoride every time I visit the dentist, but that's only because my town's water supply isn't fluoride-enriched enough, and I don't brush my teeth as often as I'm supposed to. I even looked up our water test reports to verify that myself, and sure enough, they were right. Plus, they only charge
Sounds like my husband's dodgy dentist who removed 4 teeth and put on braces on a 9 year old. He then wore those braces for 9 years. No at 44 his teeth and gums are all rotting and falling out. Not to mention the pain he has felt since the are of 9 wearing a jail cell around his teeth. Nothing looked wrong with his teeth in his childhood photos. I think the Dentist took advantage of his parents who where very young parents
These dentists are sadistic scammers, and the only decent thing that scammers provide is an example of how it's not just stalkers that need restraining!
In contrast to the horror stories I have (in my opinion) as nice experiences as possible of more-extensive-than-normal (and also normal) dental procedures. Due to a freak occupational accident I lost 7 front teeth and damaged one canine almost 3 years ago. Primary treatment was done in a public hospital, after which I started going to a private clinic that was recommended to me. After under a year the missing teeth were totally replaced with RAIs, crowns and all (+ a root canaled canine). I had never any long term pain because of the procedures, and have been able to work and live just like before the accident. I am so very grateful to the amazing dentists and nurses who helped me maintain a good life quality.
When I was a child I needed a baby tooth removed by a "specialist" that my regular dentist recommended. They put me in a soundproof room so my mom couldn't hear me scream and pulled it out with no numbing or anesthetic. Nothing. Safe to say my mother was FURIOUS and I was hurting...
Oh that sounds horrible, sorry you went through this. My mother never stayed with me at the dentist as a child, she didn't take care of my dental health other than to bring me to the dentist. Prevention was not an option for her it seems.
I have a one up story for this. I lacked enzymes to make my teeth fall out... so either I pulled them myself or got them extracted by the dentist. Every. Single. Baby. Tooth. Now I need nitrous.
My hygienist always says looks good after cleaning, calls in the dentist to look at it for all of 10 seconds and says looks good and leaves. I'm gonna stick with this place
Im so glad Norway Covers my dental care. due to disabilities that makes it hard for me to take care of my teeth I get preventative cleanings and xray check ups every 3 months. it all started with one chipped tooth. I got a root canal and porcelain crown covered. I also have a fear of dentists as I have a history of the pain killer/numbing shots not working properly and they began the root canal while it still felt everything. after many years of work Im not scared to go to the dentist but only that one dentist I have now. if I go to a dentist I dont know I'm terrified.
I had a dentist as a child who tod me noting could ever be fixed, do super basic cleaning or fixes but never used enough numbing, ten told my mom everything was fixed. Believe he's still on the run after finally getting caught red handed like a decade later. Meanwhile we had a man doing dentures and partials on people for 5 years the city over, and he was recently found to be a fraud with no prior training at all. Its horrifying what people get away with.
I was never scammed but I can speak on anxiety of going. I think I was 10 years old and went for a routine cleaning. Right off the bat when they started cleaning and it really hurt. It wasn't the kind of pain you can tolerate for a long time. I had to stop and end the session. Took little over 10+ years before I even considered going back to the dentist for cleaning. Fortunately the new dentist I went to was a much better experience and almost pain free.
Stop fearmongering. If there are any concerns, just get a second opinion... ask the dentist to explain rationale. No need to fearmonger. As a dental student, I am sure you are aware of the uphill battle dentists already face from some vitriolic patients that you genuinely trying to help. Nothing is worse than giving your heart to a profession, to patients, and get met with unwarranted hostility.
@@quekumber that's for sure a thing, but I'm referring to the uphill amount of dentist that are doing this just for the money and barely knows anything. I'm pretty sure that there people like that in every college, but atleast where I live they are too many too count.
I went to a dentist that never saw me personally and offloaded decision making to their dental hygenist who kept pressuring me to get multiple fillings for “cavities”. I got suspicious and stopped going there. My new dentist saw my teeth and was shocked at how dense they were in the X-Rays. He said I have absolutely nothing wrong and wouldn’t be surprised if I never got cavities for the rest of my life. Had I listened to the other place, I could’ve damaged my perfectly good teeth!
This happened to me, when I was 13 I went to the dentist, she was just supposed to fill the tooth but she drilled it in half, right into the nerve, all 3 teeth she worked on had to be removed. I didn't know this has happened to to other people too. I still have nightmares about the pain even though it was over a decade ago.
I kinda had my own suspicions about a previous dentist. But maybe I'm just paranoid. I went in for a cavity that didn't hurt. Then after the drilling, I was told I needed to get a crown. There was no mention of this before and suddenly I was paying 10 times what I expected.
Had to get a cavity filled years ago. Apparently they had messed it up and it began causing decay inside my tooth. When I went to get it fixed, the other dentist refilled it, and then found a small chip in the filling that he said wouldn’t affect me in any way, but he was a perfectionist and so took out the new filling and refilled it again. Then on my way home, a small piece of the filling fell out. I go to a different dentist now
It's a nightmare, so many bad dentists out there which seem allowed to experiment on people. Passing an exam based on studying is not enough. There should be a psychometric assessment or so to test for their suitability to perform on people.
My partner ran into a dentist like this and he went for a second opinion because it just felt so odd. The second doctor said his teeth were completely normal!
what a shame, im here literally 2 weeks after i requested for a dentist to clean my teeth, later i was transferred to an emergency check up with all teeths X-Ray'ed and told me that i might need 2 crowns, then they told me that i need to make a teeth extraction appointment. Look, i'm not a doctor but i firmly believe that a teeth able to bite meat and doesn't hurt at all, DOES NOT Need an extraction, my teeth was intact, it hardly had any cavities, i just went along with the doctor because of all the scary words he threw at me with the X-Ray thing infront of me, i trusted the one who was a certified dental doctor.
My parents took us to a dentist when we were kids that was abusive and definitely over treated. A huge red flag is if the dentist encourages the parents to wait outside of the exam room. The less involved they want you to be, the more concerned you should be. Their justification was that they actually treated multiple children in the same large space at one time, and parents should not be watching other people’s children have medical care done. I was nervous going to the dentist when I was little, but after going to that dentist as a child, and then young adult, I was traumatized. I get panic attacks trying to schedule a dentist appointment. I’m overdue for cleaning, and for some dental work, And it’s some thing I’m gonna have to work on in therapy before I even think about getting done. If your dentist wants to see your child alone, even if there are other children, or other doctors in the room, run. They likely aren’t giving your child enough medication to numb the area, or belittling your child, or are straight up, hurting them on purpose. I experienced all of this. The practice was actually shut down because of these issues happening to many other children. It was marketed as an affordable place to take your kids and specializing in working with young children. And they were not Safe.
Sounds like a dentist I heard about from Florida. I already have dental anxiety and I don’t even have trauma. Just minor teeth pulling when I was little
My aunt and uncle went to a doctor like this. He was overprescribing painkillers to all of his patients to get them addicted. Sadly, my aunt and uncle are still addicted and struggle now that the doctor is behind bars. It’s good that that awful man will never be released, but so sad for his hundreds of patients left with pill addictions. Worst yet, my aunt and uncle don’t even think they’re addicted because the drugs were prescribed by a doctor so they refuse to get any sort of addiction treatment and have started hoarding pills.
I remember getting my bottom wisdom teeth removed. I never had an issue with the office before, but, this time was different. I woke up and had the normal symptoms of the medication. Except, my tongue never got better. It's been 3 or 4 years and I still can not feel part of my tongue from where they removed my tooth. When I told them they feigned assistance but nothing came from it.
I had the opposite problem. I almost lost one of my teeth (and could have risked even worse health problems if it stayed that way) because my previous dentist never saw a problem and didn't fix anything until after years of returning pain I called another dentist, one who also took emergency calls, because the pain already shot all the way down my entire throat.
I graduated from BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery, aka the degreefor dentistry) last year and spent nearly 2 out of 3 clinical years under covid lockdown. Because of that I had a single year of experience versus the standard 3 years. Despite having passed the exams and supervised procedures, I don't have the confidence to be an actual dentist. As Brew says, dentistry is VERY, very subjective and I do see a lot of our lecturers disagreeing with one another on what treatment to go for, let alone diagnosis. It'd lead to newer lecturers (coming in from other institutes, with decades of experience under their belt) to be shunned and the long-staying lecturers would make their little bubble together. Also as Brew says, once a filling is done, the integrity of the tooth is compromised, and that it only delays the inevitability of extracting that tooth altogether. I entered dentistry wanting to help people, but all I see is a bajillion ways to compromise a person and I didn't want to be a part of that. Plus I didn't like the high margin of subjectivity of dentistry coupled with the fact that we're dealing with human lives. I decided to switch to an office job while having a few laughs when my colleagues ask about my degree.
Had Medicaid and looked for dentists that took it in my area. The closest dentist in my area was within my neighborhood, which is a few minutes of driving. However, the closest one that could take my insurance was almost 2 hrs away. Luckily my parents helped me with getting private insurance and funds to get the dentist in my neighborhood, and each cleaning and xray went well. The problem with insurance, even if you're assisted with it, is access to offices. Medicaid is the least accepted insurance in our area for any healthcare.
The middle of the video where it went over the most common things they push… instant red flags for my new dentist. I’ve never had dental insurance and have always gone my to my small hometown one that does “$99 cleaning” they would recommend a filling or let me know I may need a crown in the future but they’ll take a look at it in X months to see if I really need one… my new dentist did a cleaning and told me I needed $8k in dental work - they then tried to get me to commit to a payment plan and put a deposit for my next appointment. I wasn’t able to and said I’d have to call them. Seeing this video makes me really glad I didn’t have the extra money at the time. Gonna go back to my little dentist for a second opinion
A dentist told me that since I bit my nails and my front bottom teeth were worn down on top, I needed to cap them or they would start eroding down and rot. I didn't think it was that bad and ignored him and didn't do it. Its 15 years later and my teeth look exactly the same.
More dentists than you would think participate in fraud. They don't necessarily have to break your teeth to accomplish it either. If your dentist is run by a large business they definitely have quotas they're trying to meet and will constantly recommend new treatments. I had a dentist like this but I moved away. My dentist in my new state is from a small practice and one of my relatives works there. Suddenly I didn't have any cavities either even though my previous dentist told me that my tooth was actively decaying. Funny that.
It is also the low insurance reimbursements for in network dentists and high students debts pressuring dentists to create fraudulent diagnoses and unnecessary treatment.
To everyone who avoids the dentist for fear of painful dental work: If there is something wrong, it won't go away alone. It only gets worse. This guy is basically the more serious version of the dentist who gives candy to children.
I never had any pain in my teeth but I was told i needed a very deep filling, i had SO MUCH PAIN after that dentist appointment, they told me i needed a root canal or maybe even a tooth removal. They did the same thing to my mom :(. The dentists made my teeth hurt every time i went, weather it was a cleaning or filling!! so we went to a different dentist and got our x-rays from before those fillings/root canals, she said “You never had any decay where your filling is now, and your root canal should have been a normal filling.” we never went back to that dentist EVER again.
I just switched dentists. My old one retired and the fellow who bought his practice tried to convince me to replace my two 3-tooth bridges when I had asked about a broken single crown on a different tooth. I got referrals from friends to another dentist who took x-rays and after examining my teeth, said that the broken porcelain was cosmetic and there was no need to replace any of the bridges. He saved me thousands of dollars!
I once went to a new dentist and she wanted to replace all my fillings. I'm glad I canceled that appointment. It's been 10+ years and I've never had any problems.
This is far more common than people are even aware of. My daughter went to a dentist, to have her teeth cleaned, who insisted she needed five fillings. At that time, she did not have even one filling. Fortunately, she refused to allow him to do these procedures. To date, five years later, she still does not have fillings. She is 40 years old. So it still happens. If you only go to have your teeth cleaned every two years, how can the dentist possibly make the type of money, some of these dentists make? Obviously, some dentists still push for extra, unnecessary procedures. My daughter is now afraid to go to a dentist, until she has researched the dentist, and his practices. When my daughter went for a second opinion, the dentist she went to, assured her, that she had no cavities.
OMG, I do not trust dentists at all as it is, and my uncle is a dentist. I've had numerous dentists tell me to pull my wisdoms, which I can't afford to pull as insurance wouldn't cover and will cost me thousands. To this day they remain and I'm fine with my teeth, I'm 46, I'm pretty sure there really isn't going to be much change besides decay if I don't take care of them.
I replied to another post here.. in some countries, dentists are trained to pull them anyways! In some other cultures, they don't do it unless they would cause issues in terms of crowding for example. I would not get them removed at all if there are no issues. Get that small tooth brush for a single tooth and you can easily reach the back tooth. Unfortunately, I only learned about this very recently.
this happened to my sisters; my father, both of my sister and me we got dental braces at the same time, it took my father and i 2 years but my sisters had to keep going for around 3 years every two weeks 5 years total, the dentist even left the dental clinic and started making appointments at her house at some point we found it weird and then they went to another dentist and he told them it was actually making her teeth worse, we then learned she was known for her frauds

Hi Brew
My father had the “pleasure” to have one dentist like this when he was a kid. A few weeks later, after every visit to this dentist, he had dental pain. He went to another professional, and she told him someone has been damaging his teeth. He was not the only victim.
What happened to the evil dentist? I hope he was punished...
@@danielfenton4230 bruh...
@@danielfenton4230 Females can be bad doctors too.
@@danielfenton4230 Seriously?
They weren't honest until you asked.
thats criminal btw
The dentist in the video got caught, but there are lots of dentists who do this rarely enough so that they don't get caught.
Wait to see the level that a car dealer can reach in this very particular field... You have to see it to believe it.
I can't even figure out how they manage not to be inundated with legal action until bankruptcy.
that's a good one.
I'm a dental nurse and I've heard stories about dental fraud before but these stories, I can't believe they got away with it for so long. I audible gasped when I heard William wasn't sterilizing his instruments. I feel for everyone of these patients.
Dentist messed my mouth up. Now I’m afraid to trust another 😔
I had a hole drilled into a hot tooth when I was 3.
@@KaiDaigneau who taught them? Thats insane. As an owner of baby teeth he shoud know
@@KaiDaigneau Wow, I hope that guy isn't practicing anymore. He sounds very unqualified, and unempathetic as well.
It's a real sad thing to witness I guess and feel sorry for many.
It's amazing how having straight teeth and a good bite just feels so much better, right?
it seems like a lot of doctors and dentists ignore kids' complaints
@Michelle Kozmik Jirak yeah, turns out when there not overcrowded they don't hurt.
Are you a girl? Misogyny will explain what happened to you.
It sounds like the second dentist was the one who scammed you. And you had impacted wisdom teeth as a child?
Dental fraud is so incredibly common, especially now. I caught my own dentist commiting fraud.
Im not sure whos right here its scary:(
Odd considering it costs so much more to repair a tooth vs. pulling one. Maybe he just really wanted your tooth.
one dentist i went to said i'd need 4 teeth pulled to fix my 2 crooked teeth.. other dentist just put braces and everything was fine
Same. I had one who told me I'd lose all my teeth unless I got specialist treatment. And 5yrs later nothing is wrong.
Jesus. That's absolutely wicked. I hope they got some form of justice...
I had something similar and I am 23 yo i can’t get over it 😞 and i had to loose it healthy tooth 😭
I remember my dentist said I had 4 cavities and told me come next appointment. So I did and my other doctor checked it. Turns out, I don’t have cavities and she said all my teeth were perfectly fine. :v making me feel don’t trust them at all.

Hope you continue going strong!
well thats not a very smart conclusion and way to go but if youre fine with it...
Trauma…
You are not alone this seems to be quite common.
how do you eat?

That is absolutely horrifying
Wow, that sounds like some early 1800s logic--no teeth, no teeth problems. Dental regulations should be strict, and only those who are actually qualified should be allowed to practice.
Before fluoridation in drinking water and in most toothpastes, it was pretty common for people to have really rotten teeth at a fairly young age. We love our carbs! It still doesn’t make it okay to just rip everything out, though.
Back in the 40s that was the movie star thing to do.
Some dentists do not want you to keep your teeth
I was never afraid of the dentist growing up. Now at 23 I'm terrified all because of one visit. Had a root canal done, their drill broke in the root of my tooth, and they didn't tell me till they were "done."
They then filled the tooth because removing it was not in their abilities. To top it off, I didn't receive a form til afterwards. The one that reads what can happen during a procedure and what you could expect.
:') so I've had a metal drill bit in my root for 6 months now
I hope you'll never need an MRI
You... should probably go see a different dentist about that...

I think you should get a lawyer, because I think that's illegal, but I'm not sure.
If you ever want it out, go see a root canal specialist called an endodontist to chat about if they can get the K-file out.
Ah yes. This is exactly what I, a person with a fear of dentists, needs to be watching.
As long as your current dentist hasn’t done anything sketchy you should be fine
And if you have any doubts, check at a different dentist. If the second one suggests the same or less work, you find the right one.

That's so good to hear! The world needs more dentists like yours.
I haven't gone to a dentist in a decade because I didn't trust my dentists anymore. They kept telling me the teeth that had no problems needed to be worked on while the ones that bothered me were ignored.
dentists and doctors are crooks. they are master manipulators and salesmen.

As a dental assistant I will say is always good to have a second opinion as in any other profession.
Update: Just to clear things out. My parents are doing ok now. The new dentist fixed their teeth and they feel no pain.
yay
did u call the police?
@@v-14415 we didn't, her clinic is still open
@@farnom7662 why would you let that dentist go free? There will be other victims. You guys could have gotten money from it too…
Your story is sus...
I’m so sorry you went through this. It breaks my heart!
Please try and find a good dentist. They aren’t all bad
Try to sue them
This happened with my dentist growing up too.
@@RS-km2on the dentist that did it to me got closed down and sued to bad my mom cared so little that she didnt even bother getting the check from it.
As a Dentist in training I apologise on behalf of all dentists.

There is NO fraud like dental fraud. it is especially rampant today. I speak from experience.

@@Memento_Mori_Morals Because they're not supposed to :") They're connected solidly, so the fact that dentist did that is absolutely appalling.
Isnt it great he faced 0 consequences for assaulting kids because he claims he has dementia?
Thanks bud for the advice I feel calm
I've never been happier about the fact that I haven't seen a dentist in 7 years
Please go find one with good reviews
my mom had a dentist like this as a kid. her family had really good insurance, so the dentist would take his picks and scrape cavities into their teeth then say they all needed fillings so he could get paid for the procedures. They stopped going to that dentist once my grandmom found out what was going on.
I’m so sorry for your mother. I hope you are all doing well.
These dentists went from hypocratic to hypocritic.
My fillings are all ceramic originally. I’ve never had any problem.

Look at Russell Klein or Dentkits. Very affordable. And then there's densurefit which is a reline kit you can do at home.
See if the university has a dental school maybe they could do it all on 5 or 4 or whatever for you instead of Dentures
A lot of those “needed crowns” have still never been needed according to dentists in several different cities I’ve lived in.
horrifying
All dentist are like this like a crooked car salesman fixing a problem but leaving a worse one to destroy ur teeth.
Mom: Don't wory dentists cant hurt you
The dentist:
There really needs to be greater oversight in dentistry to make sure that there isn’t malpractice
A family friend works as a Dentist, they're told to over clean patients teeth, and probably even more things.
Not funny. If your tooth broke replacing the crown, you will be very affected physically and psychologically.
Whats a crown percentage also can you be a dentist if you have bad teeth?
I learned the hard way to be weary of cosmetic dentistries. I went to one around 10 years ago. I knew I had cavities, but each time I went in, the procedures got progressively more and more expensive. I stopped going after a visit costed me $1100. Sometimes, I wonder how many of the crowns I currently have were necessary.
I recommend AVOIDING chain dental businesses. They are often scam artists!

And he used a toxic filling🤬
Few years later I was told by another dentist that I had a lame root canal done...

Nothing. Safe to say my mother was FURIOUS and I was hurting...
thats messed up im sorry that happened 😥
AAAAAAAA
Fortunately the new dentist I went to was a much better experience and almost pain free.
it's amazing that a dentist defrauding people gets less time in jail than someone that is just getting high and gets arrested
As a dental student I just have to say be careful.
So glad someone finally made a video about this... GET 'EM!!
I think sadly most dental malpractice is a lot more subtle.
I kinda had my own suspicions about a previous dentist. But maybe I'm just paranoid.
I went in for a cavity that didn't hurt. Then after the drilling, I was told I needed to get a crown. There was no mention of this before and suddenly I was paying 10 times what I expected.
Oh god, they also offered me sealant as an adult, which I turned down. Were they serious fraudsters?
Both my wife and my teeth were totally ruined by school dentists. I'm 70 now, and I've only found one dentist that I trust.
and even that one could be suspect ...maybe just playing the long game!
That's why I follow the legendary quote: "If it ain't broke, don't visit a doctor"
If it doesn't bother you I'd say leave it alone.Get a 2nd opinion.
Just minor teeth pulling when I was little
My heart goes out to you. I’m so sorry you went through this.
As a dental assistant and soon to be dental student, this is horrifying to watch. My boss would never do such a thing.
The most innocent dental fraud I've been subjected to is getting charged $600 bucks for an x-ray.
Oh and the dentist who preformed the un-needed fillings/root canals owns the chain, since we don’t have much money or time, we can’t afford to sue
💀 *Bro- I’m suddenly getting A’s on my report cards….*
