    "The Peace of Basel ended the War of the Pyrenees on 22 July 1795. An alliance convention between France and Spain was signed at the Second Treaty of San Ildefonso on 19 August 1796. All in all, it was a victory for the French republic. Portugal remained in combat, however, as peace was not concluded with the Portuguese. Spain allied with France in 1796 following the Second Treaty of San Ildefonso." (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_R...)

    "Get him over the side......with dignity". Lol. I love Captain Pellew's character. Also "Let us pray that the Almighty never becomes neutral" is great too. I just watched the whole series over about 3 days, a few days ago. Great cinema, extremely well cast

    Love that everything that happens is historically correct. When the spanish officer boarded they did the correct boarding honors, with the flute (forgive me if I'm wrong) and saluted. They were all standing in the correct positions too. I also love how they say "Beat to quarters!" which is historically correct as well.

      It is a whistle referred to as a pipe, held by the boatswain or his mate. It only has two tones so it cannot be a flute

    No English captain speaking French but the cadet??

    • @SantomPh
      @SantomPh 5 лет назад +16

      Hornblower was educated in the language, his captain was not. Also Hornblower is not a cadet, he is a midshipman aiming for line officer status.
