Such a great track. The Heaven & Hell album is a classic
If anyone wants to paint or knows where to get a good print of the album cover, please let me know! I've wanted that for years!
You finally got to listen to this masterpiece and Lex, you get it! This was epic for the time because Ozzy had just left Black Sabbath and Dio came over from Rainbow, so none of us knew what to expect. This entire album blew us away and the same for Ozzy's solo album that immediately followed. It ushered in a new era of heavy metal. Spot on and glad you liked it as much as we did when we first heard it :)
@Music yes, we sure were!
At the end when she's iff the couch
We had no idea what we had and the effects it had in our emotional cores as kids coming of age in the late 70's and early 80's. Rush-Moving Pictures, VH-Women and children, AC/DC- Back in Black, Ozzy Osbourne-Blizzard of Ozz, Zepplein-In thru the out door, and Sabbath with Heaven and Hell. We were rebellious degenerates with pent up energy and this music was our emotional release and kept us centered and sane while growing up in a fucked up and insane world.
@@artboylan4539 agreed! Our era definitely had the best music ever and I'm so thankful for that.
Well put brotha.
Falling off the edge of the World and Sign of the Southern Cross would be great Sabbath songs to hear you cover....
Yeah, certainly two of my favourites of Dio Sabbath.
Lonely is the Word is my favorite Sabbath song with Dio
Sign of the Southern Cross is easily my favorite Dio-era Sabbath song; that majestic riff and the immense sound of the production, which, in my opinion, makes Mob Rules a better album than Heaven and Hell.
Ronnie was such a fantastic singer. Not only for his great voice, but also in his delivery of the lyrics. He just gave the words an extra pizazz.
Yeah, he did it with so much conviction and feeling which really made you feel it. I have been a huge fan since the 80´s and i have luckily seen him live several times, the first time in 1987. To me he was the best Metal singer of all time.
@@Stefan- I saw him live only once, with Sabbath on the Heaven and Hell tour in 81. Was always a fan of Sabbath but wasn't sure how I'd like them without Ozzy. That concert made me a believer!
@@centuryrox Cool ! I like all the different era, its a bit like different band almost and in some cases it almost is when it comes to the members. Only Tony Iommi was in all these incarnations of the band, he deserves a lot of credit for creating all this great music and Geezer that wrote almost all of the lyrics for the Ozzy era.
I became a Dio fan in 1988, but I was always a bit more of an Ozzy fan. I did listen to some of his Rainbow songs and knew about Dio's involvement in Sabbath, but I was just more of an Ozzy fan, even up through about 2002 or so. In fact, I only ever saw Dio live twice (Strange Highways tour and Angry Machines tour). Was too young to have gone to the Live Evil tour (1983?).
One of the biggest REGRETS of my life was passing on the opportunity to go see Sabbath on the Dehumanizer tour. At this time, Sabbath was playing the smaller, more intimate venues, which of course makes the experience even more amazing. My brother saw Sabbath twice on that tour. I was an IDIOT for thinking there would be more opportunities to see Dio Sabbath.
Since Dio's passing in 2010 I have become almost obsessed with all things Dio. Yes I still like Ozzy, but Dio is my guy. And can anyone really argue that Dio's voice is not far superior? I don't even say that as a knock on Ozzy. Dio's voice is superior to just about any metal singer out there. R.I.P. RJD. Greatest voice in the history of Metal. 🤘🎸
I love Ozzy and his version of Sabbath but Dio is my guy too, his voice is just made for metal, actually no matter of genre not many can compete with his voice, just the emotions and stories he paint with his voice and words.
4:20 That bass line really brings this song to another level.. “Die Young” would be an awesome one for you guys to check out :)
'Die Young' is my favourite Black Sabbath song. Lex would love Tony Iommi's guitar work on that one...
Die Young is SOOOOOO good. Having said that though, there isn't a bad track on that album. If it wasn't the first Metal album I bought it was very nearly the first, and I still listen to it on the regular 30-odd years later.
420 is always a good time
Die Young is like a perfect metal track for radio. What is it? Three minutes and a half of perfection?
Geezer actually quit the band for a short time in the early stages of writing for this album. Dio played bass and sang with Tony during the writing process for some of the songs. Ummmm, talent on display ?
I LOVE these two. Lex is the type to jump up on the table at a party and rock out playing air guitar with Brad saying "babe get down from there." One is chill while the other is free spirited. Love you guys! Love these reactions to the songs I grew up on.
DIO'S LYRICS NOT ONLY GAVE US FANTASY? THEY SPOKE TRUTH!🤘
You two should check out "Neon Knights" from this album. One of three singles released. "Children of the Sea" was the B-side of the 7". Scorching, uptempo song, only three reactions by my count (one with a misspelled title "... Nights"). I think "underrated" is an overused term, but "Neon Knights" is extremely underrated and underappreciated by the reactor crowd.
Fact^^^^^.
I concur, I would only add that for me the entire album is great, but Lonely Is The Word, might be my favorite
Neon Knights is my favorite RJD era Sabbath song. An absolutely incredible jam.
yep....Neon Knights is a banger I have trouble choosing from it, Children of the Sea, and of course Heaven & Hell as my favs from the album....but Neon Knights is fan-freaking-tastic :)
This album is my favorite dio performance and one of my all time favorite metal albums.
Tony Iommi invented metal and then he hired Dio. Give the man his props!
Amen, Brother. Iommi is the creator of heavy metal. And I'm of the sometimes unpopular opinion that Dio Sabbath is the best Sabbath.
Honestly, I think Iommi played some of his absolute best riffs and solos with Ronnie James Dio. 🤘🎸
@@josephbarr1659 , no argument from me! 🤟👍
In an interview, Dio said that Children of the Sea was the first song he and Sabbath composed.
Iommi confirmed too
Yep. The story of how this song came about is well documented. Iommi even talked about it in his autobiography.
Basically, Dio came over to Tony's house (might have been a party, can't recall), and the guys wound up in Tony's studio. Tony played this riff he was working on, and asked Dio if he thought he could do anything with it. Dio responded something to the effect of "Give me a few minutes and let me see what I can come up with". Dio sits down at a table over in the corner of the room with a pen & paper, and 20 minutes later he has what would essentially become "Children of the Sea". It was the very first song Dio wrote with Black Sabbath.
Couple of things I find interesting...
1. Tony has said that they were working on this song unsuccessfully with Ozzy, but Ozzy didn't like it, and couldn't come up with anything lyrically that worked.
2. It is a known fact that Tony Iommi records everything that's played in his studio. It has been said that he has volumes and volumes of tapes, going way back to early days, stored in his "vault". Now and again some of this stuff gets leaked, or somehow made available to the public. How cool would it be to hear some of those first recordings of this song, the song that launched the Dio era of Black Sabbath?
3. Both Dio and Tony Iommi have said that the recording of the Heaven and Hell album was one of the happiest times in their lives. It's in Tony's autobiography and it's in Dio's autobiography. 🤘🎸🤘
Ronnie mentioned this as well during the "Heaven and Hell" tour of 2007, as he introduced the song. The younger fans were unaware, but the older ones roared when that riff started. Pure magic.
One of my all time favorite songs! Thank you for the reaction!
Lex, "It's just incredible music". You definitely got that right.
I grew up on this music and I started teaching when I was 22. I’m retiring in June after 32 years and I still listen to metal. I will have metal played at my funeral. It will never get old for me 🤘🤘🤘
Amen, brother. I'm 51 and my 3 favorite bands are still Sabbath, Priest and Maiden in that order. 🤘
I currently work in the very boring and stiff field of clinical research. The other day we were on a video conference call and the Vice President of Clinical Affairs says, "Joe, is that an Iron Maiden shirt you're wearing?"
Everyone laughs, and he says, "That's awesome". 🤘
“When the riff kicks in” is the appropriate phrase.
every song off the heaven and hell album is badass
Children of the Grave(a 51 year old song) is another killer Black Sabbath song🤘🤘🤘
Sweet jesus...51 yrs old...wow... Time flies
I distinctly remember taping (?!) this off the local FM radio station that would "debut" new LPs at midnight every night. EVERYONE was eager to hear what Sabbath would sound like post-Ozzy. Suffice it to say this blew us all away. And I'm an old Boomer. RIP Ronnie.
Do you remember Rockline, th nationwide broadcast where they'd interview artists in studio & debut new tracks off upcoming Album? It would come on @ 10 or 10:30 CT just when I got home from work in time to record it. Good times🍻
Great song. Dio could paint a picture with his lyrics
Neon Knights is a banger....
So is die young!!
I love this track. When me and my friends were in junior high school we used to all do Dio impressions by yelling “Look out!!”
😆👏👏👏👏🤘
We used to change "Children" to "Chicken" and laugh about it being a metal tuna commercial 😆 Looking back it seems so Lex-ish 🤣
One of the greatest metal albums of all time. Pure masterpiece., top to bottom.
Look Out!!!! This tune is all about that incredible Geezer Butler bass line. My band used to play this song and that bass line is amazing all by itself.
Dio and any form of Black Sabbath are always phenomenal!
You know who else? Deep Purple! Listen to Perfect Strangers off the album by the same name by Deep Purple and then explore the rest of that glorious album and work your way back through the years of hit after hit!
And then go down the Rainbow rabbit hole...
Ahhhhh.... The Rainbow 🌈 rabbit hole!! Heck yes. Man oh man, those performances from Rainbow's "Live in Munich 1977" just defy description. Catch the Rainbow live might move you to tears. Blackmore was such a beast on guitar 🎸 in the live versions.
I'm more of a Tony Iommi fan, but watching Blackmore on stage is impressive. I tip my hat to his mastery.
@@josephbarr1659 💯
Like Lex said, "Ozzy is a mood." However, Dio is a vocal master!!!
💯% agree with that.
Accoding to Ronnie James Dio, this song is about Ecology. The lyrics talk about as humans learn to run before we know to walk, and due to this we are hurting our surrounding and organisms due to advancements in technology and wars.
Thanx for reacting to this great metal classic!
Still gives me chills anytime I hear it. Lex, you really got it!
DIO saved this band
Wish we had more music from this lineup.
@@NeonNights80 Wish more people knew about all the offerings from this lineup. It's not just Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules.
There's also Dehumanizer and then the final reunion under the name "Heaven and Hell". Have you heard the song Bible Black?
@@josephbarr1659 I saw three Heaven and Hell shows.
It's nice to see someone doing something different and ya this is one of my favorite Sabbath riffs hell ya! Thanks again. You get it girl!
This is my favorite reaction by you guys!! This whole album is a masterpiece
Love you guys. A true “Yin & Yang” of reactions. Both feel an understanding of the music, so important. Love how you both bring your own perspective.
Lex, you are a true rocker! You so get it. These reactions are fun. Thanks you two.
Dio was a beast! Falling off the edge of the world is another great Black Sabbath song with the great Ronnie James Dio!👍🏻
Agreed 💯% My gosh that friggin RIFF in Falling Off the Edge of the World is just otherworldly. It's so forbodeing, it's almost scary. That whole Mob Rules album is another Masterpiece.
Been waiting for this one!!
Been waiting for this one yal!
You two are fantastic! I love your contrast between expressive and introspective! You both capture the artistry exceptionally. I've listened to Dio since 1983, you honor him well, thank you.
I love rocking’ with you two! 🤘🏻🤟🏻💜
I love watching lexs face when the Riff drops and she smiles .. you can tell she’s like “ yeah I’m feeling this 🥰
You know, how Lex was feeling was EXACTLY the way I was feeling when I heard this song. Very glad to know music is as contagious as the parent's feared it was.
You guys are awesome. I'm a new subscriber, now I'm going to binge watch. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Wow, haven’t heard this in years and it all came back to me instantly
Great react.Glad you liked it so much Lex.also yall seem to be doing good.
Lex we all love you!! Keep going.
Lex, your reaction is on point and it completely consumed you about 3/4 way through the song … it was amazing to watch it touch you!!
This is 7th grade for me 1981. Had it on vinyl!
Sign of the southern cross is a great Black Sabbath / Dio song
Yes .Love this song..
Agreed. Also, Falling Off the Edge of the World.
Damn! You do all the BANGERS!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👏🙌
Reminds me of first buying the album And hearing for the first time.. great job lex and Brad!!
When the song kicks in is correct. I do enjoy watching you both listen to awesome music and enjoy it! The late 70's and 80's had awesome music!!!
I was and am blessed to have seen all of this live Dio is greatly missed good job guys
We love Lex!! Brad as well!!
I really appreciate you guys doing a deeper cut from the greatest heavy metal band of all time!
My favorite song off Heaven and Hell. It speaks to my nerdy bookworm side which I try to suppress. My favorite from the Dio/Sabbath era is either Country Girl or Voodoo, should check them out.
Never suppress your bookworm side. (I think Ronnie James Dio would've said that, too.)
I love Country Girl
Oooooh, Country Girl!!! Possibly one of Sabbath's most overlooked songs, and one of my all time favorites.
Think about just how incredible and unique that riff is.
What's funny is that Tony Iommi, in his autobiography, admits that he didn't want to record this song at first, when Dio approached him with the idea. I imagine Tony probably initially thought Dio wanted to do a country music song! 🤣 Of course Tony goes on to admit that Dio made it awesome and it worked out great.
We made the mountains shake with laughter as we played...
Lookout!!
Loved watching her jam to this killer tune.
Whoever did the fan video, that's just amazing.
This entire album is a legendary, epic masterpiece!
One of the greatest albums of “sword and sorcery” metal ever produced!
When the riff drops, YES!!!!! You’re starting to get it now
When the riff drops, I like that Brad
I love her reaction. She's so pure.
I got in to Sabbath in '74 when I was 9. Growing up my mom hated them, Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Deep Purple, Boston, Bad Co., etc, etc. She hated it ALL, except for a few mellow songs. And then when I started to listen to Punk also, she REALLY hated that. Most parents who were teens in the 50's-early 60's weren't into the harder 70's rock but of course a few were.
Yes!! I knew Lex would love that. For your next Dio you should do Gates of Babylon by Rainbow. Reminder the Rainbow guitarist Ritchie Blackmore is from Deep Purple.
This whole album is amazing. You guys should do each track. Perhaps the best Sabbath album..
The bass work is top notch Geezer doesn't get enough love
Every song on that album is awesome!!!!! I listen to it at my desk on earbuds. ; )
You need to check out another Ronnie James Dio era Black Sabbath classic..."The Mob Rules"!!
she gets it!
You really have to do "all the fools sail away"
EPIC ALBUM!! Great Reaction guys! IT was Rebellious!! Even some of my teachers listened to it when they gave it a chance.
I've watched like 40 or so of your reactions. Lex is simply a rocker. Period. Headbanging rocker.
Yes! I've been missing MetaLex. Nice to see her back in full twisting and contorted form. 😁✌️
Lex u nailed it ! When the riff drops..
I agree...in fact, "Neon Knights" has always been my favorite Dio/Sabbath song of all time. The energy of the song is absolutely addictive, and every word that Ronnie sings is effortless and powerful. Tony is free to incorporate new riffs and awesome lead fills, Geezer and Bill sound so perfect....Top 10 intro songs also IMOP.
Shame on the Night, Gypsy & Don't talk to strangers off Holy diver are Dio classics
Y'all are picking a lot of the best ones, and this is one of 'em.
Awesome Reaction!!!!!
Had the double Dio horns, and head bobbin throughout this song! More from this album please 🙏 Lonely is the word, and Neon Nights would be killer!
Love how Lex gets it, not sure Brad is such a big fan, but Lex definitely loves good metal! Great reaction both of you
I have always called metal driving or working out music.
Like grabbing another gear.
Thanks for jamming out once again.
First song they wrote with Dio. Whole album is Gold
Lex you crack me up.. You care little for lyrics, but are All In On Feel of the music. As much as I listen closely to lyrics, at my age- 58 Dec 30th, I sooooo relate to music being a “feel it or not” kinda thing
On the Brad side, I am a lyric lover as well. The band Giant had a hit with “I’ll See You In My Dreams” that hit home with me when I served in the Gulf War after losing my Dad
So, as always- you two are a perfect mix❤️
Lex totally got it! Jammin the freak out. Just listen to the bass line in this song... incredilble.
Lex captured the song spirit, Black Sabbath and Dio rules!
the BEAT definitely dropped, along with the guitar riffs!
Ugh.... good times.... goooooood times 🥺
Yes Lex! I luv your reactions! They don't call it head banging for nothin 🤘Cut it loose! The bass in this song is just on another level. The drumming is epic and then there's Dio, nuff said.🤘
Brad, you can just call it "the drop". Don't have to add riff or anything, just "the drop".
This and Wishing Well are my favorites of the album.
Top 3 Black Sabbath album.
Was lucky enough to see Black Sabbath on the Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules tours. Two of the better concerts I saw as a teenager.
I love the riff too Lex
42 yr old song STILL kicks major ass!!!
Metal Forever !!! Simply !!!
Lol.... Brad I love how Lex gets more into it and animated than you do. Cracks me up cause I acted luke she did when I heard it the first time. Love you guys!
Yes, when it kicks in!
I think this was the most anticipated album along with Ozzy's solo album of my time. Someone below mentioned it, we were all on edge waiting to hear what was coming out. Not like today when you get instant access. Then you had to wait for it to come to the record store. Both albums were awesome.
I was very young when the beatles were on a show called "The Ed Sullivan Show" on Sunday nights...but they ushered in the "long hair" generation, guys let their hair grow, and a revolution was slowly beginning, a social revolution, and much of the music that came out not long after that fateful night where the Beatles were on TV, black and white, and the girls were screaming, and their hair was long, for that day, and I turned to my parents and said...This is my favorite band!!! they later confided in me when I was older that they thought "Oh NO!!! Tv is rotting his brain!!" Then comes Black Sabbath, and parents were scared out of their minds, because they believed it was devil music, that it was horrible, and shouldn't be played...so we played it louder...Rock ON!!
🤘🤘
You are listening to a legend of the metal community!!!!!
"When the riff drops" sounds cool to me! I'm gonna start saying that.
Pure magic!
Right on, Lex!
One of the best Heavy metal album of all time and almost all songs are awesome. DIo was phenomenal during this time. Heaven & Hell blew me away like anything.
Falling off the edge of the world black sabbath!!!!
Still love this whole album
Thanks
