There are so many crossovers of metal with classical, baroque, opera and symphonic music. Here are a few samplers of the directions this has gone to: Savatage - This is the Time, This isn't What We Meant, Chance, Morphine Child and my personal favourite of their phase that eventually evolved into Trans-Siberian Orchestra: Not What You See. Therion - The Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah Live in Poland 1998 (For a more gothic vibe with operatic vocals). Rhapsody - Emerald Sword (Gourmet Italian cheese with orchestral overkill). Rhapsody - The Dark Tower of the Abyss (Shamelessly ripping off Vivaldi and it's glorious). Stratovarius - Black Diamond (Essential European power metal megahit). Vinnie Moore - April Sky (Instrumental cover of Largo from J.S. Bach's Concerto No.5 in F minor. Pure joy). Yngwie Malmsteen - Far Beyond the Sun Live in Leningrad 1989 or Fugue live with the New Japan Philharmonic or really half of everything he ever did. He's THE neoclassical metal guitarist and influenced entire subgenres of melodic metal. Also he did Aerosmith's Dream On with Dio and it's just beautiful. Devin Townsend - Why? (No guitars here, just arguably the most impressive vocalist of modern metal doing his thing with a big orchestra and choirs). Btw love your channel and how you catch on to elements even some lifelong rock/metal listeners don't seem to notice :)
This came off of the Defender's of the Faith album which was unfortunately the last time I got to see them live in 1986,My Lord that's a long time ago and it tells my age.......Old 😆

If you'r talking about a metal symphony, you should check out video of Yngwie Malmsteen playing with an orchestra, he's totally, kickass. One the greatest guitarist, and composers of all time. That's why they call him 'El Maestro'
I totally love Judas Priest! They and Scorpions are my all time favorites who are still around jamming from that late 60's early 70' time period. Lex when you say "Heavy Orchestra" I'll bet that you would like the Metallica S&M album!
This album (Defenders of the Faith) concluded JP's second era of evolving metal, and was (surprisingly) even MORE intense than Screaming for Vengeance...they go very well together...what began with Hell Bent for Leather (aka Killing Machine in UK) and ended with Defenders of the Faith was arguably the golden age and the epitome of metal (at the time)...and secured their place in history...then suddenly, Turbo...
When I caught priest on tour in Vancouver , Canada , for the Turbo tour, the opening act was, uh, Bon Jovi . A bit of a mismatch by the promoters, eh ! Then, on the Painkiller tour , they brought Testament & Megadeth with them ( ' death finished their set by playing ' Anarchy in the u k. ' Ah, That's better !
@@Shagrath71 my shoe got pulled off my foot at the turbo show, thought I was doomed, no chance of finding it on a packed floor . Pounded beers in pkg lot before, lots of hash . No one knew who the opening act was , maybe that's better that way in this case
So many great songs by JP! Other ones to definitely check out are Exciter, Screaming For Vengeance, Genocide (do the Live version off of Unleashed in the East), Tyrant, Nightcrawler (live is amazing also) & Beyond the Realms of Death just to name a few.
After Painiiller, this was probably the second or third Judas Priest song I ever heard and I still love it :D What Lexi was saying about orchestral metal, that does totally exist. Nearly all symphonic bands use orchestral sounds in their tracks. Bands like Nightwish, Dimmu Borgir and Ayreon use this quite frequently. Metallica also performed live with the San Francisco Symphony, just check out the S&M concert. If you liked the original Master of Puppets, this version will surely bring your house down :D

Alice Cooper has small events at his youth community center in Phoenix. The center provides free lessons in art, music & production. Students who excel are rewarded with the opportunity to play along side big name talent. A few years back, pre-COVID, my niece's boyfriend at the time was one of those students. He got to play an event with Rob Halford. First, Rob's voice is as strong as it has ever been. But even more notable was the way he interacted with the kids rotating thru the set on various intruments. He encouraged them to get up front & rock the fxxk out as if they'd been jamming with him his entire career. Afterward, he did a meet & greet, pics, autographs, etc specifically for the kids. Someone of Halford's status doesn't need to participate in such events. The fact that he did with such vigor & encouragement is one of many reasons he is THE Metal God.
I knew you'd come around, Lex. Judas Priest are Metal Gods. There probably wouldn't be a Slayer without Priest. I've been listening to them since their 70s stuff (still my favorite Priest era, the Victim of Changes era). I bought this album on vinyl when it came out, then went to see them in concert when they toured to support it. Great White opened for them. Think it was about 1984. It was a LOUD concert. One of my friends who came with had just went to the doc that day to have her ears unplugged after years of not hearing well, and that was a big mistake. 🙉 She couldn't wait to leave, and was out of there before the encore. The rest of us almost left but then we heard the Harley Davidson fire up and stayed. 🙂
Love this song and, Priest! No one screams like Halford! Seen them twice. Once with Ripper Owens and once with Halford for their reunion in 2005. Tipton and, Downing are beasts and, I believe underrated. Also, don’t know if you already have but, I think you should react to Sisters of Mercy “Lucretia my Reflection”. I think you would dig it.

This came off of the Defender's of the Faith album which was unfortunately the last time I got to see them live in 1986,My Lord that's a long time ago and it tells my age.......Old 😆
I said this before the 2 times i saw them in the early 80s I felt assaulted with music when i left the concert. Them and Rush were my best concerts
Seen them in 86 in Florida…I was never the same!
Judas Priest has sooooo many great songs. Saw them in concert 3 times. Their live shows are some of the best.
On the albums, each guitar solo was individually credited to whichever guitarist had created it.
Great song. We almost did this song in our garage band back in the day, but the bassist said he thought I could never sing that fast, but I showed him that I could, but the real problem was that he couldn't figure out the bass part.
Love your reactions. Priest melodic breakdowns for the win!
Love Lex's evil grin during the guitar solo, lol.
Lookbeforeyouleaphasneverbeenourwaytokeepourroadisfree, chargingtothetopandnevergiveinneverstop, thewaytobe, holdontotheleadwithallyourwillanddon'tconcede, you'll see there's life, With, viictooory, on hiiiigh, ..Freewheel Burnin... This is symphonic and the whole album from the first note to the last is just as good. I saw them on this tour, they performed the whole album, plus more classics, and it was the best concert ever.
If you'r talking about a metal symphony, you should check out video of Yngwie Malmsteen playing with an orchestra, he's totally, kickass.
One the greatest guitarist, and composers of all time. That's why they call him 'El Maestro'
First concert ever was Defenders Tour!!! Priest Priest Priest!! JP has so many flavors for you to savor. 18 studio albums and several live albums.
Going to their concert tomorrow night 😎
I totally love Judas Priest! They and Scorpions are my all time favorites who are still around jamming from that late 60's early 70' time period.
Lex when you say "Heavy Orchestra" I'll bet that you would like the Metallica S&M album!
Totally agree, and the scorpions are my favorite band of all time seen both them in concert.
More Judas Priest songs to try: Electric Eye, Delivering the Goods, Exciter, Desert Plains, You've Got Another Thing Comin, and so many more!
My first concert was these guys on this tour. Will forever be etched in my brain. If you haven’t done victim of changes yet, it’s a definite must!!!
Ah, That's better !
My secret shame is I like Turbo even though at the time I turned my nose up at it like everyone else.
@@Shagrath71 there a few good things on that album, but I think everyone wanted more of the previous 2 albums
@@richardkey4289 Yeah, at the time the reviews were mixed at best.
@@Shagrath71 my shoe got pulled off my foot at the turbo show, thought I was doomed, no chance of finding it on a packed floor . Then 20 min . later it bumped me, I grabbed it, it took a few minutes to be able to put it on , by then my sock had a layer of stadium floor filth that was like a tire tread on the bottom ! Pounded beers in pkg lot before, lots of hash . No one knew who the opening act was , maybe that's better that way in this case
My first concert was Judas Priest Defenders of the Faith tour. It was one of my favorite groups growing up.
So many great songs by JP! Other ones to definitely check out are Exciter, Screaming For Vengeance, Genocide (do the Live version off of Unleashed in the East), Tyrant, Nightcrawler (live is amazing also) & Beyond the Realms of Death just to name a few.
That joint woke me up for my 24 hour shift starting at 7:00Est tonight! That and a double espresso I'll be jacked 4 24 hours 4 sure!!!!!
Too cool! My last day of school sophomore year 1984 I went to see Judas Priest on tour supporting, "Defenders Of The Faith". You would've loved it
After Painiiller, this was probably the second or third Judas Priest song I ever heard and I still love it :D
What Lexi was saying about orchestral metal, that does totally exist.
I don't think they're ready for black metal even the symphonic variety.
@@Shagrath71 Probably not but it was the first example after Nightwish that I could think of lol
"Look before you, leap has never been the way we keep, our road is free....."
Rob Halford was spittin bars before Eminem was an itch in his dad's nether region. Went to this concert May 9, 1084 in San Diego. It was my first metal show of many.
1084? Now that's old school
@@psychedelicfright85 LOL! Got me. Ever hear of that old thing called RIF? (Reading Is Fundamental) Bruh, it's been upgraded. Now it's PRIF. (Proof Reading Is Fundamental). Sausage fingers be sausagy in that one.
What a singer Rob is. Wow.
Can never play enough Priest! 🤟😎
Well now Lex will have to listen to some Meatallica S&M, they played with the San Francisco Symphony conducted by Michael Kamen.
Gotta be careful driving when listening to most priest songs. Lol
70's era Priest is the better, the pre British Steel days. Not that there's anything wrong with the stuff after British Sreel.
The video for this song is ICONIC!!
The sentinel live from the fuel for life tour will blow your mind
Love this song and, Priest! No one screams like Halford! Seen them twice. Once with Ripper Owens and once with Halford for their reunion in 2005. Tipton and, Downing are beasts and, I believe underrated. Also, don’t know if you already have but, I think you should react to Sisters of Mercy “Lucretia my Reflection”. I think you would dig it.
I remember my ears ringing for days after this concert. 🤘🔥
Hi There! First time viewer. I'm really impressed with your repertoire! Just watched Freewheel Burning & then Victims Of Changes as JUDAS PRIEST is still my all-time favourite band even without KK Downing. I have seen this group live more than anyone else. Afterwards, I played 3 Jinjer videos; Pisces and Judgement & Punishment [ including the one with Lexs ma] - all fabulous! If you like the feel, energy, vibe & and dual guitars of JP and the vocals of Tatianna, could I suggest Arch Enemys latest song Handshake with Hell as it is barnstormer which sort of combines the quality of the two. Many Thanks - Take Care!
This is the old thrashy Priest we like!
I'm a big time Judas Priest fan. You've not even began to scratch the surface on their music. The second song I ever learned to play on guitar was "Breaking the law" by J.P. I bet I know how to play more of their songs than any other band, with maybe the Scorpions as a close second. Glad to see you're still doing some of the old school metal stuff. love the videos. William C. central Indiana.
My first heavy metal cassette tape i ever owned.
This is one of my favorite songs of all time.....period. This was thrash before there was thrash. I loved Priest before this album.....but this took them to a totally different level.
Lex got it, and it sounds like Brad did too......Gonna make him a headbanger yet.
Thrash was a thing at the time, but Priest were right up their asses with this one.
Before Metallica, Slayer, etc if you said metal Priest and Ozzy were the first things that popped in my head.
Every song on Defenders is amazing. You should also do The Sentinel and for something different Love Bites. And Jawbreaker. Really every song on that record should be heard.
Brad had me rolllllin with "let me get in your ears!"
My absolute favorite song from the 80s which made me a fan of Judas Priest. Thanks for the review!
