Thank you so much for your contents, they are really the next step I was looking for in my basic mace practice. Greeting from an Italian in Berlin, Germany!
You're very welcome! This is exactly what I wish I knew back when I started using my mace, so I'm very glad its useful for you too. Very cool to hear you're an Italian living in Berlin - you must speak many languages! My fiance is part Italian, her Nonno is from Viareggio and now has a small but beautiful vineyard in California. Thanks for your comment, my friend! Enjoy your mace practice 🙏
Many thanks, Simon! I'm really glad you enjoyed this video. Thank you for watching and commenting! It's an honor to share what I've learned. Since you're just getting started on your mace journey, I invite you to use the free Steel Mace Essentials eBook. It streamlines my best RUclips videos and articles so you can learn all the basics in only 14 Days. Glad you like this video so much!! Also, it's really funny you say that about tension vs compression. A Tension Field technically relates to how tension is held through the whole body (with the mace simply being a part of the circuit), though I totally agree that squeezing the hands together on the mace would be compression while ripping apart would be tension. Thanks for watching and supporting this channel!
Excellent to hear! My goal is to simplify these techniques as much as possible. Thanks for watching, and enjoy applying these exercises to your workouts!
I know nothing about steel mace training, so this question might be dumb. But could these movement also be done with a sledgehammer? (There are Many weight and handle lengths available)
This is a great question! You can absolutely use a sledgehammer and I'll share the best dimensions, but first I want to mention 2 potential drawbacks. The first drawback is the obvious one - the weight is rectangular rather than spherical. Most movements, transitions, and swings are still entirely possible with a sledgehammer, but you have to be careful with which way the sledgehammer is pointing throughout movements so you don't hit yourself. The second drawback is that the sledgehammer is likely to be less balanced than a steel mace because of the handle's material being lighter than the metal used in a mace. Also, the handle might be grippy which could impact some transitions. But aside from these drawbacks, a sledgehammer is a great choice and is used by many people successfully. I'd look for one between 36-42 inches (90-110 cm) in total length and a weight of around 10lbs (4.5kg). You could start with a slightly lighter one, but I wouldn't advise a heavier weight until you've mastered the basics. You'll build a stronger foundation and have a lower risk of injury. Hope this is helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm super stoked to hear that you're interested in steel mace training, and I couldn't recommend it more highly. It's a blast and the effects on the body are incredible. Thanks for your comment and may the mace be with you!
Thank you so much for the reply! This is very helpful. I have a 6 lb sledgehammer so the head is rather compactand it has a wooden handle so my hands can freely slide if I need them to.@@flowmadesimple
You can use whatever you want as long as it has a long handle and a weigt in the other end. If you use sledgehammer, you'll quickly learn to not hit yourself with it 🙂

Very nice!! Usually you can get some good deals around Black Friday from Onnit or on Amazon. White Lion Athletics is also a great option if you're looking for a mace that's more customized to you. Let me know if you need any advice when picking one out!
Yes, absolutely! I recommend 3 places: Amazon, Onnit, and White Lion. If you're looking for a 7lb mace, get a "Yes4All" brand mace on Amazon. The handle is a better length than other 7's and they ship pretty quickly. You can also get heavier maces from Yes4All or other Amazon brands. Onnit sells higher quality maces, but they cost a little more. They are ideal for 10, 15, and 20 lb maces. They have a more durable paint job and I've found them to be a little more resilient. I don't recommend Onnit's 7lb mace though because the handle is shorter which provides less leverage. Finally White Lion Athletics has great options, particularly if you'd prefer a mace measured in kg instead of lbs. Does that answer your question? Let me know if I can help with anything else!
Nice! Many of my students have Retrospec maces and think they are great. Some of them have a slightly narrower handle diameter than other maces, but that has never been an issue that I've seen. Congrats on getting a mace! 15lb is a good and challenging mace weight, you'll get a TON out of it. Enjoy!
Hi there, that's a great question! The answer depends on the individual, though I recommend that everyone begins with a 3-5 kg mace, and I've found that 7-9 kg maces are about as heavy as most people can manage effectively. So I would say no heavier than 7-9kg, to answer your question. You can certainly use 10+ kg maces, but often those are used only for swings like the 360. Maces are deceptively heavy due to the majority of the weight being on only one side, so it's best to start light and move up from there. Does that answer your question? Please let me know if I can answer any others, or recommend a steel mace brand to purchase. Thank you very much for watching and commenting this great question!

The friction loc asp baton with the leverage cap is a must for self defence,
Had to google what that was, but agreed. It looks very balanced!
Love this video but please: tension would be pulling the mace apart and compression is squeezing the mace together!
This is my go to video!

I started with a 6lb sledge, and now it feels like a toy. I graduated to an added adjustable one, but still break it the sledge from time to time.

I bought 15lb Retrospect from Amazon I think it's very good quality but this is the only one I have so can't compare.
