  • Wild wild footage, showing one of the rawest and rarest sights to see and film in whale-watching; an Orca predatory event. Orca by themselves are uncommon, covering vast distances every day and never staying long in one location, but to film them hunting prey items is far less common.
In this footage, filmed by Capt Josh of Alaska Whale and Drone Tours, several Transient Orca close in on and kill a harbor porpoise, before tearing it to pieces. While one of the females is feeding, the male gets excited and attempts to mate with her. Probably not for the purpose of reproduction, but simply because they enjoy it.

Thank you so much! For me, getting the footage is easier, it's the editing that's difficult. I'm working hard at getting better though!

size doesnt matter. Some groups of Orcas only eat Salmon

Just look at the size difference between the big orcas and the puny porpoise. The porpoise didn't stand a chance. RIP.

Not even a little chance. Harbor porpoise are pretty slow too, so no escape.

The music is SO annoying 😑

Whirring drone buzzing is much more annoying, I assure you. There is no natural sound captured this high up.

How close are the drones to the orcas?

We maintain an altitude of between 350 and 400 feet above the marine mammals, and use the awesome zoom features of the Zenmuse H20 camera to get these shots. At the altitude we're flying at, we barely even notice the drone from the boat! I'm very sure the wildlife is never even aware that it's there, enabling us to get much more natural behaviors than we could otherwise get.

@@AlaskaWhaleanddronetours That's great to hear that you maintain a decent altitude far away from the orcas, respecting their personal space and habitat whilst capturing these incredible videos. Thank you!

@@AlaskaWhaleanddronetours So many of the shots you get are incredible. Just love your channel. You said you use the Zenmuse H20 camera, which I know are not cheap! Can I ask which drone model you use to get these aeriels? Thanks for sharing all of your gorgeous content!
