I’ve been doing this myself lately - if I thrift it I have to at least wear it. So it’s been cool, it’s forced me to try some different styles and now I’m thinking about reworking those into even more wearable looks…. Kinda a fun middle ground challenge lol
I recently finished the 75 Hard Style Challenge, and it forced me to do exactly that. I'm pleased to say I'm proud of how many of my pieces I actually wore, but actually, what I realised was missing from my wardrobe were 'basics' 😂
For me personally, I would get rid of the denim dress if you are constantly picking the other over it. There is no need to have two of the same dress that serves the same purpose. I was able to get rid of so much of my clothing with this mentality and feel more inspired since I love everything in my closet. Example, I used to own so many cream knit sweaters and I recently thrifted this one that I constantly wear and I realized that if I really liked my other cream knits I would've worn them already and in the month i've had the new one i've already worn in 3 times. I got rid of the sweaters because clearly I liked the newer one the most
Shopping my own closest is one of my BIG goals this year 2023(since I practically own a store) today I’m wearing a blouse I’ve never worn before and freaking LOVING it! Time to be more sustainable, budget friendly and conscious/creative with my choices!

Those burgandy velvet pants stole my heart. They are gorgeous, and you look great in them. They could be worn with a white button up and black sweater-vest, or even dressed down with a graphic t-shirt. I think they are super versatile. I understand that you aren't vibing with them, though. I personally would lurv a pair for myself. 😻
Perhaps the pink sweater with the burgundy velvet pants also.
I saw those pants and instantly my mind went to how many shirts I have in my own closet I’d LOVE to style with them! Just goes to show-one man’s trash is another man’s treasure haha ❤
For the cheetah print dress, I envision either tiny bows there on the straps or those big bows on the tops of your shoulders making it look like you tie the straps together there. You can also put a half corset over top; like the ones that just go around your torso! And I looove the wine colored velvet pants look! You rock it :)
For the denim dress, you could maybe sew a bit of elastic on the inside of the dress (either all the way around or just a bit in the back). That way you can define the waist however much you want without needing a belt, and you can always remove the elastic if ends up looking funky. Either way, hope you find a solution that works for you!

I’m about to order one of those waist snatching clip things that were on my mom’s dresses from the 80s… no joke. I was thinking about what would change one of my garments into something I’d wear… and I realized one of those would do it.
Just a few ideas - bc u mentioned that u like the tennis skirt to be covered up, try it with a loose or oversized crewneck, it gives more of a sporty than a preppy vibe! For the velvet pants - try it maybe with white, it's more unexpected. Just a simple crop top or even a white puff sleeve blouse. That way it's not just "dark vibes" - if u know what I mean :)

You could try camouflaging the v-neck of that denim dress with your peter pan collar blouse and necklaces, it could look cute. But honestly if I don't like the fit of the upper part of a dress I would most of the time wear it as a skirt with oversized cropped sweater.
that pink sweater would be perfect for the diy where you crochet little motifs like strawberries and then stitch them onto the sweater

I definitely like the idea of going back through your closet and finding what you actually have and truly love or don't love. Also you should do another monochromatic outfits video with clothes you have in your closet. We would love to see it.
Here's how I'd style these for you:
1. denim dress: with an oversized knitted sweater (maybe in cream color) over it.
2. pleated black skirt: with a shorter band t-shirt, layered with plaid flannel, and sheer black stockings, for more grungy/punky look
3. cheetah dress: rocker chick style with black leather biker jacket and chunky chain necklaces
4. velvet pants: 70's style with a striped turtleneck sweater and Converse sneakers
5. and 6. pairing bloomer shorts with the pink knitted sweater, or any fuzzy oversized sweater, for a cute and cozy lounge look
7. swirly pants: add a black satin bomber jacket for a cool streetwear style
8. long shorts: with a blazer as a suit

I think you could style the tennis skirt with an oversized sweatshirt and maybe some sneakers. It would be very casual and comfortable outfit with a peek of cuteness from the skirt.
The denim dress I would keep it simple, just a white tee underneath with some vans/converse. A bit more low key/casual but very spring vibes 😁
I think the key is to just go with your gut. Lately when I’ve been feeling in a slump about what I’m wearing, I choose one piece to focus on and then the first thing that I gravitate towards after that until I have a complete outfit. You end up with some really cool, out of the box outfits that way. Don’t over think it. You have great style decisions!
You should do a video or a video series where you style outfits w what you have in your closet but once you pair pieces together you can’t pair them together/in that way again and see how many outfits you get/like! It would maybe inspire you to pair pieces together that you typically wouldn’t!
And it would remind you of pieces you forgot about!

Everyone should video themselves trying on 'meh' clothes like this... Alexa’s shoulder scrunching and grimaces tell the tale, lol! Making it work is fine, but probably better to just wear the clothes you feel great in!
I've become quite brutal when it comes to my closet clean outs because if I don't 😅 oh boy my wardrobe would be so overwhelming.

On the denim dress you not taking advantage that you can just use it as a vest just leave it open or close the first 2 snaps leave the rest open and throw some fun printed pants underneath. Those shoes at 11:54 are sooo cute. I like the marble pant with the green boots, or you could have put on some other white boots or something. Shopping in your closet and reenvisioning items is good thing, but sometimes it's just better to let some things go instead of just keeping them to "just wear around the house" because you most likely won't.

I have to say, I love that first denim dress! It has wonderful drape and flow that, in my opinion, completely counteracts the "shapelessness" that you described. It looks very cute with the t shirt, but it would also look great with a light colored, patterned, short sleeve collared shirt/button down! I especially love it with those red cowboy boots- it has a very comfortable, slight childishness (in a good way!! and very slight!) I feel like sailor moon would be a great inspo starting place for styling that dress!
Idea for the wavy patterned pants: pair with graphics! Graphic tees/tops have the unique quality of going with both patterns & basics & I got my patterned flares specifically to toss them on with graphic tees for a little pizzazz!

i love how you tried to make each outfit different. If i dont like an item of clothing or feel uncomfy with a bottom, i will wear a black turtle neck, claw clip in my hair, lots of jewelry and my black leather trench coat. in terms of shoes, its always my jadon docs. I need to branch out more lol
This has inspired me to shop in my own closet. I have so many pieces I have never worn because I don't know how to style them. I have some skirts I've never worn and I never thought to pair them with a long t-shirt. Definitely going to try that look out. Thank you for the inspo!

i would personally style that cheetah dress with a denim jacket and either docs (bc i have them) or a nice pair of tall black leather boots (i do not have those). maybe even go slightly 80's inspired with my hair and makeup, or do a little "indie sleaze" moment

I think that pink sweater would look so cute with the black tennis skirt peaking out the bottom with those cow print cowboy boots on, you could even put black or white ribbons in your hair too! Or an out of the box fun diy would be to put small black ribbons all over the sweater.
You could wear a chunky knit in red over the denim dress. That would look cool with the red boots, you could even use the same belt to tuck the sweater in it.

This thought process helps me get rid of things I’m not using:
Usually we’re keeping the item because we regret the purchase. We’re keeping it to give ourselves the opportunity to prove the regret wrong, BUT it actually only KEEPS REMINDING us of the guilt we feel for not using it!
What’s best is to take the loss on the chin, and GET RID of the thing that’s making us feel bad about ourselves.

The animal print dress needs black sheer/opaque sleeves under it 💗 i don't mind it with or without the belt, either is fine imo
Jean dress: white tee under, flannel around the waist, docs. Black tennis skirt: just like you styled it but with a jean jacket. Animal print dress: definitely a belt, a sheer black top underneath, and tall boots. Could also wear the pink sweater over top and tucked into the belt in the front. Or, animal print dress, heels and an oversized cardigan. I'd go for red but nearly any solid color would work. Burgundy pants: white graphic tee with a big graphic, a fluffy headband, docs. Also would pair well with the animal print dress tucked in.
For the first denim dress, try styling it like a long gilet. Keep the dress unbuttoned and wear it open over another outfit, as a third piece.

The leopard dress - I would wear it long (without the bows) and then add a wide obi belt at the waist to shorten and highlight....and then add a proportional jacket. I would 💗 to get my hands on a piece like that!!!
Note: I prefer a preppier style than you, so my suggestion would not be for you, but for me if I wore it...... Just to clarify
I would type in 'denim dress outfit' to look for inspo for a specific peace into Pinterest or 'Whimsygoth outfits' or '90's grunge' into Pinterest for some aesthetic inspo that's my go to when I can't style a piece or on RUclips for that matter.
I think any puff sleeve top will look killer under the dark coloured jean dress or a striped tee shirt or long sleeve underneath or a turtle neck definitely a Phoebe from friends or 90's grunge style will work to make the outfit more wearable especially with your lace up doc Martin boots.
The velvet pants give off strong whimsygoth vibes so an oversized sweater would work great over the top or do the same outfit as in the video just add a moon or sun chain belt over the top. The same with the black pleated skirt if you did a whimsy goth, grunge, goth or punk outfit you would love the tennis skirt more as it's an alternative fashion outfit staple.
I would do white tee, wavy pants and white sneakers or white boots to match the pants and make it more casual. A plain white or green sweater that matches the colour in the pants is also a good pairing. A denim jacket with the white tee and pants would work as well.
Lean into the rockstar girlfriend/90's grunge for the leopard print dress and pile on the accessories that match the Hardwear on a leather biker moto style jacket the oversized leather moto jacket would work well and give you a 80's maddona rock chick vibe.

First off; sunshine is such a good moniker for you!🌞I think you should take the top off the denim dress and make it into a maxi skirt. And I think you should wear the tennis skirt underneath the leopard print to give it a little fullness and interest. Also, nay on the Mary Jane's with that outfit.

The first outfit I would do a stripy turtle neck underneath with tennis shoes, loafers or platform. Something that shows the ankle to balance all the fabric on top. I would still go with the belt as well maybe a black one to match the shoes. For the second outfit I would pair a graphic turtle neck with a turtle neck and tennis shoes with chunky socks.

For the denim dress with a V neck since the buttons go all the way down run with it as a duster. Take something very sheer and soft with a square neck as a base layer (preferably a square neck lacey shirt maybe your white peasant blouse top) for bottoms go tighter rather than looser, maybe bike shorts. Wear your red cowgirl boots.
