The Wet nurse is the Doll, the Doll is filled up with spiders, my parents work at from software
Perfect
I listen to these, and I think Richie is the “How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man?!” meme.
That movie is definitely Kung-Fu Hustle! Great episode, glad I suggested the apostles!
17:27 to 20:50 is comedic gold. The timing, the voices, that Thak you Richiea at the very end. It's all perfect.
I loled for a good minute haha
I will never get bored of these. And nor will I get bored of Dr. Pilbeam pointing out how awful it is. This is where quality redefines itself.
I think the 10 legs thing is 2 arms and 8 legs, but more because they're like drider/centaurs. A lot of stuff in Mergo's Nightmare is just fusions of two animals, so it's not that weird to think that in an attempt to ascend like Rom, the apostles tried the same thing.
The default nightmare apostles actually have heads (the eyes are clustered like a tarantula) and 8 legs
the two "legs" in the front are actually pedipalps modified for walking(as scorpions and vinegaroons modified them into claws for grabbing prey)
Don't know if you'll see this but I was wondering if Richie knows about the Spiders of Leng from Lovecraft. They lived in Leng which was this city where different realities merged. I wondered if that could be an influence here.
The movie you were talking about in the beginning is kung foo hustle btw
Happy quarantine! Stay safe :3
Yes!! It is!!
Sinclair forgetting the Giant Spider and her Children in the misty reflection realm of a lake is why we keep coming back for high quality insightful content; thank you both.
Thanks!
Also I really appreciate all the background work you clearly do Sin. You still master your gimmick of silly counterpoint to Richard, but are certainly no slouch on L O R E
Sinclair is so adorable in this episode
26:00 wow i can´t believe Rich just cured me from my feelings of self-inadequacy
The apostles summoned by the bell ringing ladies in chalice dungeons scare the heck out of me
They're called pedipalps. I used to keep a tarantula.
thats better than a pedopope
I was about to comment this as well haha
@@scramblex2692 thx, i hate it
Here I am, glad to see the apostles get attention. Here’s my perspective: originally worshipping the Wet Nurse (like one does), they eventually fell out of worship towards her when the old blood was found. Without her guidance, they turned to the next best thing, tangible great ones.
Amygdala appear to be one being and multiple creatures, all at once, as Patches says “Lord Amygdala” yet we find False and True Amygdala…and Patches isn’t so much upset that we killed his Fucken god as he is surprised that we’re alive. He knows his god *can* die, just that it doesn’t die often.
From how I’ve parsed it, this is a being which occupies multiple hosts at once, with the False Amygdala being those Eye Gardens in Byrgenwerth while the True variant are made in the nightmare. What stands out to me about Nightmare Apostles is how they, when backwards, Sorta resemble their God’s physical form.
The abdomen matches the fat head of the multi-armed gatekeepers, they have a plethora of limbs yet two are incredibly loner than the body and the main body is rather small with a tiny tail behind which is supported on small legs. We’ve seen transformations turn a (assumedly) beautiful woman into a big ass Wolf with weird fingers and antlers…it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Amygdala’s consciousness, when occupying a Large Nightmare Apostle, transforms the body in a way that is utterly backwards compared to the Garden of Eyes’ anatomy. After all, Nightmare Apostles weren’t spiders originally, so another transformation bastardizing their body and mind wouldn’t be anything new either. And, if I’m really stretching…I’d say that the Apostles go through literal loss of their head as they slowly become more of an appropriate vessel for their God’s consciousness.
The tail of an Amygdala is small and admittedly purposeless, yet it clearly exists in the first place. The spiders were human once and probably still have a spine if it’s able to support a human head *at all* before said head eventually falls off. As the body grows an the creature is overridden by Anygdala’s consciousness, the exoskeleton is shed, revealing certain parts of the creature have been reshape-like a cicada shedding its skin-and one such facet of this could be that bony little tail which would make good support for whatever head could fit on it (if shrunken down).
So, in summation, my stance is this:
Nightmare Apostles, former Byrgenwerth scholars had discovered their original deity in the Wet Nurse before falling out of appreciation for her. Perhaps they viewed her as less than a true Great One (she appears and behaves Pthumerian enough), perhaps she made promises she wouldn’t keep, perhaps she’s a phase in the lifecycle of Amygdala hosts**, or perhaps there was simply a splinter cell which defected to a Great One that was tangible in the Amygdala we see today. Transformed into decapod arachnids by the blood and power of their god, which could be found in the Chalice Dungeons, these skittering bastards made themselves a home in the dungeons themselves-learning yet growing into a mindlessness not unlike the Celestials we see today. After a while, some would literally lose their heads and eventually be transported to the Dreaming World where they’d find themselves more time to gestate under the will of their God’s presence. Given enough time to reach appropriate size, the “lucky ones” would grow still and begin to crack open, revealing a very frustrated as well as unfed Amygdala. Any and all still conscious Apostles, devoted as they are, would send anyone and everyone into the clutches of their God’s new body. While comparatively young and weak, these bodies are vulnerable yet definitely require sustenance from whatever prey they can find-most likely other Apostles and Dreaming World wildlife if not humans sent to them by Apostles themselves.
**She’s definitely solid yet invisible to us, much like the Amygdala are without a high enough insight. Even if we max out our insight, we won’t be able to see her despite the fact she’s a solid creature. Her limbs are gangly, she’s got multiples of herself, dexterity unrivaled and is protecting a child…I’d be remiss not to at least entertain the notion this is a matured Amygdala body, which has metamorphosed beyond our mortal comprehension. After all, we can’t have all Third Cords and fight her, meaning we’re forever handicapped in one regard or another when fighting her.
I always felt there was a difference between the reasons something transforms into a brainsucker specifically versus the beasts of yharnam etc is that they were transformed by over consumption of eyes. They seem to be the exception to blood based transformation.
They haven't used blood, a phantasm was surgically implanted in thier skull
@@jacobhoover1654 which is what I said
@@connorkinsman3164 I thought u said they transformed from over consumption of eyes. Also, the spiders with human heads and Mergos Attendants are other example of transformation not based on blood.
@@jacobhoover1654 forgive me. Misreading my own comments now. I did say that. But I've also learned that I was wrong since this 9 month old comment. Lots of research and learning. The nightmare apostles are probably mensis students and the Attendants are just Pthumerians
@@connorkinsman3164 interview with Miyazaki says the spiders are Mensis members that transformed from being pulled into the Nightmare and the official guide says the Attendants are also transformed Mensis members
I found a door in the Chalice Dungeons that I could heavy attack through and which had three bell maidens on the other side summoning nightmare apostles...I ground up 1,600,000 blood echoes in an afternoon by stabbing through the door into the infinite enemies...suffice it to say I was severely overleveled for the endgame
@Joe Ç ive run into this dungeon in the normal chalices i think. Dont remember which one it was.
Joe Ç it was a story chalice, not a root chalice
i'm like. the opposite? of an arachnophobia. i love them so g-ddamn much they're like tiny stupid cats except less angry. theres something admirable that bloodborne STILL manages to get spiders to be scary, mainly with the little things like their slightly different number of legs from real life (like. those are clearly way closer to legs than pedipalps, it's clearly built on existing spider anatomy but it's so damn UNCANNY) and the way they're framed on-screen. not to mention it uses the same trick that makes the ds2 spiders friggin creepy what with how *still* they are
Funny thing about Patches at the windows: if you don't complete the dialog you can keep running into him everywhere.
18:22 I have never played BB and I knew ;)
13:20 I first encountered Patches at those people who laugh at me. I was very confused
You bastard,of all the enemies you picked the damn big ass spider as the thumbnail. Damn you.
it's sending you a kiss tho!

Btw you are really bad at describing movies Sin. xD
Dignity city forever! Better than Hogwarts 100%. The headmaster is on a rocket chair!
Yeah!
@@SinclairLore Would you play a sims game that takes place at Byrgenwerth, during the golden years, between the first dungeon looting and the departure of Laurence?
@@lucabaldazzi7289 Oh snap
Kung fu hustle
I love spiders😅
STOP STEALING FROM BERSERK! Except don't stop. Do it more, and slower
Rom is a spider? How can you say something so brave, yet so controversial?
Also I don't believe Patches and the rest of Nightmare Apostles are scholars, but Pthumerians since they're also found and summoned in dungeons and share the same facial features: one thing to note is that Patches is both found near and gives out a Clockwise Rune, which describes the inhuman mutations that many experienced, suggesting to me that the arcane knowledge of the Great Ones, channeled in the Runes, can turn their worshippers in creatures other than beasts.
