That is SO awesome. As a lifelong Texan I really appreciate any visitors to our state exploring the history especially something like this that is Off the beaten trail. I've only been there once myself...
The labia was actually just rubble when they found it in the 20’s or 30’s they rebuilt it to what it looked like base off of the layout of it. But still it pretty old from being built in that time. They built everything by hand no machine which They also did to the mission that converted Indians to Christian’s.
Fantastic job explaining the entire site with respect. We used to live in the area and visited many times. The updates are super to preserve history. Our friend was the curator there years ago. On a special occasion called “ Spanish Nightwatch” I had the privilege of lighting fireworks from the barracks roof. A night our children still remember as adults. Thanks for bringing this to us.
My mother and I visited that site September of 1992. It was fascinating. We were there when they were holding a Texas cattlemen barbecue in the huge square, so smelled that barbecue smell as we toured it. Thank you so much for the memories.
I really appreciate our nations history . This is not something I was taught about in school so Im very glad to know this. The fact that you were able to experience the location where it happened is amazing.
I love getting the history of a place and your Pops is great at summing it up and making it interesting. What a place. I’d never heard of it, just the Alamo. Historic and stunning. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I'm on the road now but I'm from right down the road from here. This is such a great place and you guys just made one of the best videos on it I've seen. Love seeing pops with all the history of the place. Thanks yall!
❤ love Pops history information. It makes traveling more enjoyable. This location has been added to my travel bucket list. Thank you for all the your videos.
We love the videos with you and Pops. This one was particularly fascinating, and thank you, Prof. Pops, for the additional historical information. I think I'd have found staying there a little spooky and more than a bit sad, given the history. What an interesting experience, though.
Oh wow- what a wonderful place to visit- and exciting place to stay! Enough room for a whole family! And, more "Pops History" speaches, please. He has a great style and great voice, well being a professor and all. Thank you both!!
Thanks for your posts They have inspired so many of our trips to America from Australia. I especially love watching you and your dad’s travels. I wish you’d do the Camino de Santiago in Spain one day! I think you’d show the effort and camaraderie whilst explaining the history of the place as well! Also I think you’d go the whole way instead of coping out at 200 km like so many you tubers.
I got to stay there for my birthday in Nov. found the page in log book that y'all wrote in, also they gave me the book Texas blood book that Pops had , (gift from Josh and Pops) great birthday gift, thank you and God bless y'all on your trips.
I used to travel for work in south Texas from Austin. I’d always stop at this place. Just amazing history vibes there. Thanks for the detailed history pops 👍. Hope you guys got to see Mission Espiritu Santo down the road.
We are watching your RUclips live chat with you, Pops and Amy. Josh your wife is gorgeous. We love your videos and you mentioned that your dad is from NJ. I love in NJ now but I'm from Upstate NY. You like to hike you should check out Watkins Glen and a gorgeous falls in Elmira. Pops is right too about PA, especially Lancaster it's beautiful there, a fall trip is the best. Keep making those fabulous videos and all the best to you and your family.
I’m going to sign up next week when I get paid. I’ve been following you since you started Brent and and can tell you as a runner you will probably have to put a limit on the amount of runners you allow or have staggered races by age group. This will be very popular for sure and will blow your mind by the response you will get
i love seeing videos talking about my town! if there was any place i would recommend in texas, it would be goliad. not only are the people there great, the prices arent too shabby! and we have tons of cats so if you're a cat lover like me, come around! we have tons of historical events too and sites that you can check out! the hanging tree, reenactment, courthouse and my favorite, the state park. the hike and bike trail is amazing too! it is about 10 miles to get to the end and back, but along the way there is plenty of facts!
This is the town my bff lives in. Lots of history. PS, there is really no good place to eat at in Goliad. Hop over to Victoria to eat. Or if you hit market days in downtown look for a Vietnamese booth.
I visit it often, as does my roommate. Locals hear screams coming from the massacre. Down the road away from town past La Bahia is a Mexican restaurant of the same name. Best authentic food in the area.
Very Few people know about another battle/siege just 25 miles south of Goliad - at Refugio, TX. A Mexican General Urrea attacked the small garrison. He camped under a large Oak Motte just across the Mission River from the town of Refugio which is still there and has a TEXAS Historical Marker, designating them the Urrea Oaks. The siege went on for days causing much stress to locals, so many of them left Refugio and traveled to Goliad where most were killed . Remember Refugio was also a Battle cry at later battles.
Bummer! check out the SubStack I made, I am sending out emails there every week when I post a new video since some people don't get notifications. throughmylensco.substack.com/
does look a bit haunting wouldn't dare to stay in it, must say was surprised at the price, cheaper than the cheapest room in any national park lodge for such a big room and an unique room
We drive past the Goliad fort quite often about 18 miles from my home. , . Don't forget to tell about Col Fannin who was killed by Mexican firing squad. The Mexican soldiers heard Remember Goliad, and Remember The Alamo at every battle after that
Blessings in an abundance of the faith. I salute you. 😘🙏Grace and peace be unto you and to this place. God bless you. 🤍🌈🤍Thank you. Will you believe and receive Jesus Christ as your LORD and personal saviour??? I do. 😊
That is SO awesome. As a lifelong Texan I really appreciate any visitors to our state exploring the history especially something like this that is Off the beaten trail. I've only been there once myself...
Loved Pops’ history lesson. Are you considering having him do more of these lessons on future trips?👍🏼
Thanks so much!

I loved this Josh, I loved pops telling the history. So much history is lost today, and the kids just don't seem to want to hear about it.

This was great - being born & raised in N Texas - I love seeing & hearing about all the history of the state I love.
The history lesson from professor Pops was a nice twist. It seems like a very cool place to visit. It reminds me of my Tia’s house in Mexico 😁🙌🏽
Thank you for sharing!
Fireside history lesson from Professor Pops should definitely be a thing!

What a unique experience!
An amazing experience to spend the night in a place of such historical significance. The bathroom reminded me of the Madonna Inn
Yea it was a really unique spot and the bathroom is definitely like the Madonna Inn
This is why I have a K2, rempod, and several good apps on my phone for places like this. I think I will do this
Prez pops knows his history!

Hi mate, When did you visit this place? I have travelled lot in Texas but need to explore gulf coast areas. Summer time will be taxing.

I have lived 5 minutes from here in Goliad for 15 years.
Pops is a learned man. What is his history specialization/major?
