  • Can a machine be mindful? What does that even mean? Sticky questions with major consequences for humanity are tackled in this provocative talk by De Kai, the AI professor who pioneered web translation AIso like the Google/Microsoft/Yahoo translators and Founding Fellow of the Association for Computational Linguistics. Will machine intelligence ultimately be different from humans' in how they feel and think about things? What does artificial mindfulness mean for the future of human culture? How should the moral and ethical implications guide AI research labs like De Kai's at HKUST (Hong Kong) and ICSI (Berkeley) in machine learning, natural language processing, music AI, computational creativity, cultural technology, and empathetic AI? This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

We still lack the elements to articulate the nature of feeling and subjectivity as a whole considering its evolutionary complexity

The sooner we install self destruct switches in AI and laws to limit what AI can do; before it is too late to save our species in general from an AI caused extinction, the better.

Computers are just very efficient file storage and retrieval systems. There is no evidence a computer will EVER be anything more. The ideas of machines ever being self aware are fantasy.
