When I first got my 4-16 I broke it due to a user error and NF fixed it and had it back to me within two weeks, and I only paid for shipping there. They were easy to work with and very communicative. They also fixed my friend's 4-16 that had a messed up elevation turret at no cost to him, even though it had been damaged by the previous owner and my friend wasn't the original buyer.
I just sent back a new 5-25. They turned it around in two weeks, but they told me their current turnaround time is 6 weeks. They expedited mine because it was a factory defect. I also have a 4-16 and nxs 2.5-10. The 4-16 is so nice. The parallax adjustment is just so easy to adjust focus and take the parallax out. Recently got an attacr 1-8 and can attest to the durability as my friend dropped my 308 from a short distance onto concrete and it got scuffed a bit but nothing major. Having come from some low and mid grade vortex scopes, the difference is stark. But, like you said, everyone has a different needs from their optics and mine were decenct magnification for at least 400 meters, high durability, and red dot bright illumination.
I think their 1-8 ATACR and 1-8 NX8 are the only red dot bright offerings they have. I have other NF scopes and the illumination is just seriously lacking. Looks GREAT in a brick and mortar store though. Bright enough to make one believe it would be excellent in the field.
@@MochiMoose Thanks for the heads up. I've got the nx8 too, so I would have assumed they were all that bright. I guess I wouldn't care about that brightness in a higher mag scope though. Maybe that is their reasoning.
Awesome video! I’ve been on the Nightforce train looking for a scope and I’m glad to hear of your experience with the 4-16. Just a quick question, what do you think of Schmidt & Bender scopes? I’ve also been looking at their 3-20 PM II ultra short scope. My goals in using the scope are similar to yours.
I use the same exact scope on an 18” rifle for the IWI gas gun comps and 2-gun comps. I think it is the near perfect scope for an AR. I tried the top mounted dot at my last 2-gun comp and it absolutely sucked. I use a 1.93” scope mount and an offset that is also 1.93” in height so when I rotate to the offset, they are the same height. I might eventually get a 14.5” barrel, but I’ll still keep the same optics because this setup is nearly perfect. The price is a con, but I don’t mind the weight because I use the Criterion Core Barrel.
@@jimmybrodriguez I’m a RUclipsr myself, and just starting out, so I always like to show support to my fellow comrades haha; especially when the editing is great! Great optic, until you go to reset the ‘Zero-Hold’(NOT A ZERO STOP) to a factory setting, and the elevation turret locks up. Mine is on its 3rd trip back to nightforce. And will be sold when it comes back.
The first time was my fault, removed the four small set screws below the elevation cap. My fault. Elevation turret froze in place. The second time I moved the optic to a different rifle needing a different 0 and followed the instructions to the letter. Elevation turret froze in place. Third time I put the optic back on the original rifle with a new barrel.. and ran into the same issue.. I will say to NFs credit, they got right on the issues and had an RMA labels in my inbox while I was on the phone. Turn around on the RMA process was about a month and change. At no cost to me. I’ve run a handful of their ATACR line up.. the 4-16 was problem child.. purely for that issue alone. Fantastic optic otherwise. Conversely on Leupold’s MK5 series the zero-stop is easy to reset and is a smidge lower in glass quality at almost 1000 less.
@@jimmybrodriguezit’s also important to note the 4-16 and a few other their other optics, there’s a difference between the ‘zero-hold’ and the ‘zero-stop’ systems. There’s different processes to each system.

Picked up the new nx8 1-8 fcdmx. I think it decent glass for the weight and FFP reticle it runs with. Not as clear as the vortex razor, but not a huge deal considering all the other positives it brings to the table. I don’t think I’ll get any other glass mfg going forward besides NF
Hey Jimmy, quick question for ya, know you’re using the SOLGW recently, thoughts on that vs Cobalt? Interested in Cobalt, especially with the upcoming Ambi lower.
Out of the box the SOLGW is the way for me with their precision barrel. I do still like the stuff from Cobalt-Aaron and Mikey are working hard over there to keep improving the product. I'm really interested to see what they've got coming in the ambit lower and new barrels. Either of those two are great options and can't really go wrong.
Haven’t looked through one of these but I had zero issues shooting 1040yd yesterday with a 18” 556 and a leupold mk5hd 3-18 at 13power zoom. AAC 77gr at 2650fps more than enough magnification
I've not hear that, but I think that largely depends on your application and what distances you're trying to shoot at. 0moa is the way for me across the board and makes it easier to translate no matter which gun i'm using.
Not sure, I don't weigh my rifles. It's one of those things I build it out and it is what it is. I don't think about it much. Maybe I'll weigh it once the 18" comes in

Been saving up past several months, avoiding unnecessary temptations, while contemplating on either the NF Atacr 4-16x42 or Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6-18x44. Settled and purchased this exact optic & reticle. Great to see this video, I feel more confident in my choice. Currently using the Badger Ordnance C1 mount for my lpvo, I like it so planning order one for the NF Atacr. Any other mount recommendations?
How often do you shoot between 10-16x? Also if your goals were limited to 700 would the Mark 5 2-10x be a good buy? Any more insight on their new reticle?
It tunnels at low power, so calling it a 5x erector is a bit of a stretch. It's basically a 5-20. Same thing happens on all the other high power atacrs. The 5-25 is actually a 6.5-25. So just decide I you're OK without 4x on the low end, the size, and no locking turret. I think the 4-16 is the best of the bunch.
I would really like to have a 4-16 ATACR, but I may just keep saving for the new Kahles 3.5-28. To me, that seems to be the best option available given the huge FOV and optic quality. The only downside is the insane price.
Jimmy, question on the Mil XT reticle, did you do a 50 yard Zero or a 100 yard zero off your center aiming point? I’m looking at this scope for my Noveske 16” SPR running a Vudu 1-10x28 MRAD reticle. But I think I should have gone Nightforce. Keep up the great videos from ATX.
Yo my friend I’m in Dallas and really wanting to get into long range shooting and scoped carbine. Any advice on where to start? I’ve been trying to find someone with land to shoot for a decade now. Just ordered ATACR 4-16 🤘🏼
The illumination in the worst part of the ATACR, mushy button you gotta press a buncha times to change. Don’t see why they can’t implement a proper illumination knob like everyone else does. Their system feels like something off an Amazon special air soft scope. Other than that, I really like my 4-16.
My goal is to educate, not try to sell you on something so if this optic isn't for you at least the information will help you make an educated purchase
It's a fine optic indeed. Wasn't the perfect optic for me as I wanted a lower min magnification in a shorter lighter package. I went to the March FX 1.5-15 DFP and have no desire to swap to anything else that's currently on the market. It doesn't compete with the NF-A at max mag, but I find it still plenty usable. The TR-2B reticle is also by far my favorite I've used, but it isn't a fine as that NF-A that you like.
@@jimmybrodriguez right. No worries im just gonna do it better. Gonna get the adm delta mount instead of recon, and gonna pair it with a new bcm 18” upper. Then im never sellin that thing
Iray thermal being a RH25? That's an interesting combination as 4x is as low as you can go with the 4-16 and the RH25 doesn't lend itself to be a "long range" thermal. Can't wait for the video as I quite like my PFN-640+ (more as a do all optic and not as a dedicated clip on).
@@jimmybrodriguezfor Quantified performance GP division the 1-10 razor is the best optic in the game imo. But for a traditional rifle scope, the 4-16 atacr is just too damn good, affordable, nice turrets and the Mil-xt reticle is fantastic.
IT SHOCKS ME that the Razor LHT 4.5-22 (weighing only 21oz) isn't WILDLY popular in the SPR/Scoped Carbine world. 1. Full warranty. When you rifle does the inevitable cartwheel off the bag, which happens with most top heavy rifles, no problem....completely covered. That said, NF builds tanks, so who knows maybe it won't break, but peace of mind is a beautiful thing. 2. Did I mention it is only 21oz? 1/3 less weight than the NF 3. NF probably has better glass (not compared to the Gen 3 Razor, but probably the LHT) but not by much In fairness, the NF is a better scope in terms of turrets, build, fit n finish, etc. But the mere WEIGHT savings with the LHT should skyrocket its popularity!! You also pay nearly 2x as much for the NF
Still find it super weird how you said you loved the vortex Gen 3 1-10 equally to your ATACR 1-8 and then it was never seen again. Really odd, that. I guess your word as a man does have a price. Didn’t want to lose access to free vortex products. I’m honestly getting to the point that I’m going to make reviews because I don’t want free shit, I am gainfully employed and make 135k a year. Not rich, but I can afford what I want to buy. I feel like none of you self-interested “please sponsor me” guys have integrity meaning anything.
In the comparison video I did of the two there is whole section on the two things that I didn’t like about the razor. One of those is solely personal preference. As I focused more on shooting and getting better as a shooter, I like shooting the same thing over and over, so even though both are good optics I picked one and I picked the one that suited my preference. I don’t need 3 lpvos that all do the same thing so I got rid of my 1-10 and I also got rid of my black atacr 1-8. Additionally, you should definitely do reviews, the larger the dataset consumers have the better educated decisions they can make.

What about the the slightly bigger brother and a 5x erector the 4-20? Just as good with a little higher top end?
I'd maybe use that on a large frame gas gun or bolt gun. Not a fan for a small frame.
Love me some of that purchase validation
Its the little things in life lol
What’s the rifle you got it on? Would love to hear about it.
It's in the intro. Just a test rifle until my 18" is done
I just bought a FN15 DMR 3 with a 18’ barrel. Do you think this scope is too much scope? I want to pair with an offset red dot
Love the Wes Anderson vibes
It was fun doing it. I want to make content more enjoyable to watch. I feel like a lot of it has started to look the same.
I would really like to have a 4-16 ATACR, but I may just keep saving for the new Kahles 3.5-28. To me, that seems to be the best option available given the huge FOV and optic quality. The only downside is the insane price.
If you go that route I'm interested to hear your experience
Do you think you would still buy your Atacr 1-8 again? If so why?
Yes, different applications. I've got a follow up video comparing the two coming down the road
Would you put this on a AR10 or opt for higher power?
This is perfect for an AR-10. Spend good money on a good mount as well.
16X is plenty for up to 800 yards
Everybody here needs email NF and ask for a 4-16 in FDE… make them hear us!
I support this movement
Jimmy, question on the Mil XT reticle, did you do a 50 yard Zero or a 100 yard zero off your center aiming point? I’m looking at this scope for my Noveske 16” SPR running a Vudu 1-10x28 MRAD reticle. But I think I should have gone Nightforce. Keep up the great videos from ATX.
Just curious if you normally run a bubble level on your scope or rifle? Didn’t see one on your rifle set up this video.
I have and MDT digital one that I swap between guns. I don't use it all the time.
Yeah, it's not as good as the 1-8, but I don't really use it so I haven't noticed it as much.
*English rap starts playing*
Me:*pauses, mutes and continues until I see Jim sitting and talking about the scope*
fair and noted
I appreciated the technical breakdown about clarity, sharpness, etc. Great video
My goal is to educate, not try to sell you on something so if this optic isn't for you at least the information will help you make an educated purchase
I really did not need this video to drop while im sitting here trying to decide what to put on my Ridgeline rifle 😂
This optic with that rifle is a tough combo to beat
@@jimmybrodriguez absolutely! Mines consistently between .5 and .75 with sig 77gr
What barrel length is that rifle? A 16 or 18?
16"
I sold mine now I regret it so much😢😢 im gonna buy another though. Its that good
I’ve heard a couple people do the same thing
@@jimmybrodriguez right. No worries im just gonna do it better. Gonna get the adm delta mount instead of recon, and gonna pair it with a new bcm 18” upper. Then im never sellin that thing
Iray thermal being a RH25? That's an interesting combination as 4x is as low as you can go with the 4-16 and the RH25 doesn't lend itself to be a "long range" thermal. Can't wait for the video as I quite like my PFN-640+ (more as a do all optic and not as a dedicated clip on).
Not an rh25
Great video, thank you!
Thank you 🙏
Any time!
Would love to get one if they weren't more expensive then the khales k318i or steiner t5xi 3-15 where I live
Thank you.
of course!
This is what I need on my 18 inch.
My longterm plan is to put it on an 18" too
The intro to this video has immaculate vibes.
@Spessforce more like it on the way
All roads lead to the razor 1-10 and the 4-16 Atacr, I refuse to elaborate.
Bold lol. It was the reticle in the 1-10 that really bothered me.
@@jimmybrodriguezfor Quantified performance GP division the 1-10 razor is the best optic in the game imo. But for a traditional rifle scope, the 4-16 atacr is just too damn good, affordable, nice turrets and the Mil-xt reticle is fantastic.
@@submoa9278 lots of good guys in GP using it. I could see the benefits of the bigger dot in matches for sure.
More Scope then the 5.56 bullet needs. With a 200 grain 300WM then it would fit right in. But its a very good scope. $2,500 at Optics Planet.
Why not to use NF 2.5-20, it has wider range of magnification, lighter, and cheaper? Just saying !!
Always the dopest content jimmy 🤙
Currently too poor for Nightforce. But working on that lol
appreciate it. It's worth the wait. Ive wanted this optic for a couple years
IT SHOCKS ME that the Razor LHT 4.5-22 (weighing only 21oz) isn't WILDLY popular in the SPR/Scoped Carbine world.
1/3 less weight than the NF
3. NF probably has better glass (not compared to the Gen 3 Razor, but probably the LHT) but not by much
In fairness, the NF is a better scope in terms of turrets, build, fit n finish, etc. But the mere WEIGHT savings with the LHT should skyrocket its popularity!!
You also pay nearly 2x as much for the NF
Hate to say it but someone is curating these comments. I’ve had multiple deleted.
🤷🏾♂️your guess is as good as mine
Ok cool now tell them to make it in tan
Listen, if I had that kind of pull i'd have a tan one already lol
💪
What I gathered from this video. Size doesn’t matter to Jimmy but he can take a big erector. Tight.
Hella tight…wait what. hahaha
Hello everyone, poor here; I like the arken 4-16x50 for a cheaper version of this
6 erector size is average, just as good as 10 erector
Honestly, some might even say 6 is above average
Man start doing more videos on your guns again those are the vidoes people wonted to see that got all the veiws we won’t to see rifles and parts used
Regret selling mine 😭
Pain. Thankfully I talked a buddy out of selling his. He had a moment of weakness.
Can’t wait to tell my GF that my smaller erector size is actually better and causes less strain!
Aus would save him weight
Vudu 1-10 SR5
good option for some but not for me
Great info on SPR scopes, but very poor finacial advice... 😂
