Amazing how this show makes you feel emotionally... here's a story about attempted suicide which is intrinsically sad but here they also manage to make it amusing too (without losing the sad side).
Only at a later point in life did i realise that, although its mostly played for jokes, Elliot has one of the most fucked up lives of the entire cast...
Elliot was *extremely* well written. She starts the show as a cocksure doctor who wants to do anything she can to get ahead, to be the best doctor ever. By the end of the show she’s ready to admit she might not be a doctor forever. Elliot isn’t sure if she’ll be a doctor forever is one of the most relatable feelings in the work when working in the health field.
@@naterk9460No most came from her mother and father, both very self absorbed and dismissive of her. She was neglected by her mother who only wanted to show her that men were to be used. Her father just didn’t care at all and she felt she had to prove herself to him.
Probably one of the reasons she wanted to commit suicide.. Scrubs did sometimes go to very dark places in the stories that weren't told blatantly and you had to look for yourself.. Dr Cox's connection with his parents (ESPECIALLY mother) is another one of those as in season 1 he straight up said he hated his mother.
@@recht_voor_zijn_raap5506 jd’s first name for the first 3 years of his life was Johanna, and when he did a plié in ballet his uncle said good girl in what I can assume is a perverted sense.
It really is messed up. Most people won't take Elliott's story seriously because she's rich, pretty, etc. They don't take into account that she is still a human being with feelings. Not to mention that her parents screwed her up MAJORLY, a lot of people in her life took their own lives and that she wasn't always considered pretty. Also, according to the story she was about to talk about regarding her one-piece, she may have been groomed by one of her teachers.
That's the point of good writing, people themselves are imperfect, they're narcissistic, arrogant, rude and tactless, the reason we watch shows like thess is it because they accentuate these traits in their characters who say things most of us never would in real life. Problem is these days, whilst we've become more aware of mental health problems and societal pressure, shows these days are less likely to tackle these issues in a way that resonates with people, and will only dare to do what's acceptable within the realms of political correctness and will take no risks whatsoever.
What I don’t understand is how the real darkness of this story tends to be lost on people. What really makes this scene for me is the mention of her one piece bathing suit was in the back of her coaches car and how that story informs the suicide attempt, or at least the idea of it. Like, she was raped by one of her teachers when she was 16 and then began having suicidal ideation some time afterwards but couldn’t take the plunge during the attempt when she abruptly and yet somewhat comedically rocked out of her mindset by mere coincidence. The first time I watched this scene it but her neuroticism and desire for control into a much deeper context.
Knowing Elliot I don't think rape caused her decision making. More like she made a poor decision and freaked out with her typical anxiety and overreacted. It's literally her entire character base.
Nope. Knowing Elliot, it was something far more mundane, yet embarrassing, and wholly self-inflicted. And then having embarrassed herself, her anxiety and insecurity goes into overdrive and she thinks she can't live it down and bam. Middle of lake splashing around waiting to drown.
@@eddiewinehosen6665 so apparently some people are unfamiliar with the concept of statutory rape. Any sex with a child whether consensual or not is rape and it’s traumatic to have an adult take advantage of you like that, especially someone like a teacher or a coach who has power or authority over you. Also, apparently people aren’t familiar with the fact that many rape victims won’t discuss their rape due to feelings of shame and insecurity that comes from having your agency taken away from you by an abuser, or possibly from being stigmatized and mistrusted by ignorant people.
I think everyone misses the fact that Elliot was likely molested or ra*** , she says at 1:34. She says her "one piece was at the back of Coach P-'s car" and had a direct bearing on her trying to die. That's freaking dark. The very fact she can't say the words over what happened to her..that's sad.
you are jumping to conclusions here. I think this was mentioned somewhere in another season aswell, she fancied the teacher and regretted doing it with him afterwards. that is not rape nor molestation, that is a bad decision from her, and a stupid teacher that isn't mature enough to turn down sex. The teacher should be fired and have his license revoked, this however still doesn't mean it was rape.
@@XpVersusVista if it's with a minor it's statutory rape, dude 😐 a minor might think they're consenting but it's literally breaking the law for the adult in that situation to respond to it. The adult is undoubtedly the one manipulating how the situation turns out no matter who came onto who. The teacher in this story isn't some guy who was stupid to turn down sex. He was an adult who knowingly had sex with a minor. And we don't even really know if Elliott came onto him first or if he was grooming her into this exact scenario from the start. Rape is rape.
It's kind of crazy how even though Elliot grew up in immense wealth she was horrifically abused by her parents. Like I remember she says in this episode that she was a depressed sixteen year old whose mother told her every day how "Garbage" she was. Her parents were something else. Also why was her swimsuit in the back of an adults car?

I wouldn't sweat that too much. Different circumstances, but I had my teenage suicidal phase back when, as did a lot of my friends. The fact that we can and do laugh and joke about now is a privilege, but it also means we got through it, and figured out how to stick around.
