Me casually watching this when RM's song starts playing, I started panicking, cause I had no idea why my Spotify started out of the blue. It was not my Spotify. Jack, you don't play it fair here. You make my two passions collide: books and Namjoon. I already discovered you because of your video about his book recs. Not fair. I love it!
It wasn’t a large haul but… 4:20 House of Idols by Choi In-Hoon 5:14 Human Acts by Han Kang 6:10 Unexpected Vanilla by Lee Hyemi 6:48 Love in the Big City by Sang Young Park
i read human acts over a year ago and I still think about it frequently. it's really a book that stays with you. also, thank you for including rm's song in your video :)
Loved everything about this entire video like always but loved it even more the moment I heard RM's Seoul playing in the background. Talk about taste!!
Omg i'm so jealous of you Jack... i wish i could go to korea and buy a thousnad of books there. I read the vegetarian for my contemporary korean literature class and loved it and for the upcoming book day i bought both 'human acts' and 'the white book', i cant wait to receive and read them!! Specially human acts because i heard marvelous reviews from my friends and i'm all ready to cry (something about the Gwangju masacre always make me shive and cry). I bought the spanish version because i heard is incredibly well translated and the translation of deborah smith had some mistakes from the korean... but i hope you enjoy it to the fullest :)
Oh lawd how I wish I could browse translated Korean books in a Korean bookstore! 🥺 I'm curious myself about Love in the Big City, it's been recently translated into Romanian, my native language, and I can't wait to read it! You enjoying it from the start makes me even more excited. 😁
hi, fellow Romanian. Tomorrow the book you're talking about it's going to be 20% off at Carturesti (books day, if I remember correctly). Cannot wait to read it!!
@@summersnow30 Already ordered it from the publisher! 🙈 But same, I've heard so many people I trust talking highly about it that I'll read it as soon as it's in my hands.
As both an ARMY and a fan of your channel, I of course got super excited when I heard Seoul by RM. 😄 What a perfect choice 💜 And what a great haul!! I’ll be looking into some of these for sure.
Never seen a British RUclipsr I subscribe come to my hometown before! Kyobo Gwanghwamun branch is my all time fav bookshop. Love your video even more now. Though, I'd like to recommend you to have a glance on Korean publications to see how beautifully they make the covers and everything. It's quite different from what English/American ones usually have. Enjoy your time in Seoul!
It is also my dream to go to S. Korea and experience the life there. And there can be no prefect book than Love in the Big City to read in Seoul. And the song "Seoul" by RM that you chose as the BGM describes the vibe perfectly. 💜
I've been waiting for this!! I moved to South Korea (not Seoul tho) almost exactly 2 months ago and I've only been to a couple of bookstores. I'm still finding going out a bit intimidating but bookstores are my comfort space. Also the cover design here is top tier!! Can't wait until I can comfortably read all those beautiful books.
I also read Love in the Big City super quickly, it's certainly so easy to fall into! I had to sell my copy before I moved here and it was hard to part with.
OMG As a korean subscriber, I’m so excited to see your Korea vlog in your channel I hope your experience in Korea was great!!!!! It is surprising for me to see the familiar bookstore in your video! I can’t wait to see other videos of your trip!!!!
the way you’re just PUMPING out content for us 😭😭😭 i love your explanations on why you pick books. also, great song choice 😌 the perfect song to play in seoul
I recently read the latest novel by Han kang, and I loved it. As far as I know, it hasn’t been translated into English. When it happens, I think you might want to read it!
It's actually tragic that I live in Seoul and haven't been to an actual book store yet. You've just inspired me to check out some bookstores and see what catches my eye. I've been wanting to get back into reading
During my exchange semester in Korea, I absolutely fell in love with the bookstores. All the books are super pretty and presented beautifully. I used to go there and just wander around since it was so peaceful and calm. And inspiring. And oh, Human Acts by Han Kang is one of those books that ripped my soul apart. So good luck with that one!
I found your main channel last year looking for RM books recommendations and I completely loved the “conversation with a friend” kinda vibes. And when I heard “Seoul” from RM in the background I almost scream! It’s really helpful to have a source like you to got introduced to more Korean literature. I’m really excited with this new project!
i’m currently reading Human Acts!! i loved The Vegetarian sooooo much so now i want to read every single thing Han King has ever written. Love in the Big City on the other hand….I really didn’t enjoy it but i look forward to hearing your review
It's because of your videos I started being interested in korean and japanese books. I must thank you, it's amazing. I have only started one japanese book as it was the only one I could find in store, that I really knew I wanted to read. But I will continue to add to my list and it's you who opened my world to these and it's amazing, so thank you :)
Ahhhh! I've been wanting to do this for poetry books I just can't find in the states. This is so cool-- I just read the title and am excited to watch the full video later
When I went to Kyobo bookstore, I absolutely loved the Korean books - the way it’s binded, the weight of the paper, and it’s so affordable! I wish American books could be binded with the same quality.
Jack, if you get a chance to visit Starfield Library in the Coex Mall or the Seoul Book Repository, please take a video so we can live vicariously through you :) cheers!
What a coincidence, i bought human acts the other day too. Havent read it yet and to be honest the cover enticed me aside from the summary. Youre excitement over the book makes me excited too 😆 Ps. found your channel 2 yrs ago and you inspired me to read again, because of you I discovered Haruki Murakami (Kafka on the shore). Because of that I highly trust your book suggestions 😅
Omg Im also on holiday in Korea and was in that exact same book shop a few days ago and I also bought unexpected vanilla and a Korean lit portable library book!!! 😀 Unexpected vanilla is great! I missed love in the big city though, I really wanted to find that one 🥲
btw jack, if you ever upload a seoul vlog you oughta blur strangers faces or at least that's what i've gathered from watching korean youtubers. they're not comfortable with being filmed without their permission, even if they're in the background.
Hi! I'm Korean who loves British English/culture. I've seen your videos for nearly a year and a half. I'm glad to see you are enjoying your time in South Korea! Maybe we can run into each other someday when you come to Korea! Thank you and have a lovely day xx
The way I jumped out and got so excited hearing RM’s Seoul as you browse a bookstore in Seoul. Perfect! 💜💜

NO WAY YOU USED SEOUL BY RM AS THE BGM (ELITE TASTE) I LOVE YOU AND YOUR VIDEOS
I already love these types of videos but for korean books AND with RM's seoul as background music?? YOU'RE TICKING ALL THE BOXES, JACK
Jack’s inspection of the Continent continues. Also, let us all join in saying: Buying books and reading books are 2 separate activities.
Omgg have fun there!!! The last book is new to me but sounds exciting! Thanks for the rec
Also RM Seoul!! Song choice he has such beautiful writing💯

jack using seoul by RM as one of the bgm for this bookish vlog taken in Seoul, that’s just so perfect!!!! 💜
