I loved the transition between Love and Peace and Sunday Bloody Sunday. But I remember at the time thinking that Bono looked rather silly with the bandanna. It sort of made me giggle in the midst of rocking out. Great concert.
What's this song he sings in the middle? Is that a Bono original, or is it a hymn or some sort? I love it!! No matter how many times he sings Sunday Bloody Sunday, he always pours his heart into it and it's like a new rendition.
Wow! I'm shocked that everyone here misinterpreted Bono's message.. I really hope he's not to blame here. You all thinking that he means that all the religions are one? You haven't read his Grace over Karma interview then. Open up your eyes, he doesn't stop at "it's true", he doesn't even say THEY're true or IS true, he goes on - all sons of Abraham! Now where is he wrong here? Jesus, Jews and Muslims are all sons of Abraham. And in Jesus Christ there are no nations, so they CAN all be one!
You're absolutely right, based on what he said. I thought about that after commenting and then before reading your comment. He does say, "Jesus, Jew, and Muhammad." He's saying that they're sons of Abraham. So you're right, he doesn't say Christian, Jew, and Muslims, are all sons of Abraham. Romans 4, which I cited does say that Christians are sons of Abraham, sons by faith in his promises, which Jews and Muslims both have rejected by rejecting Christ.
and the idea here is to unite rather to take a sword. For Jesus Christ there are no nations, no religions, cause God is higher than religion. Basically Bono just tries to say that remember that we have lots of things in common, and so we can have the Truth be in common too.
To those who didn't know, Muslims are a branch of Jews from the family tree of Ismael, which have seperated from Jews, but they have the same history with Jews BEFORE they did. Then came their own prophets and Mohammed who ALSO is the son of Abraham. Bono doesn't talk at all about truth of any religion here. Although I know he implies that one in Jesus idea, I'm sure of it, but he doesn't directly say anything about religion!
He doesn't say Christian, Jews, and Muslims, he says, Jesus, Jew, and Muhammad, so you're right that technically Bono isn't saying all the adherents of these religions are Sons of Abraham. However, his words don't match the visual. The cross doesn't represent Jesus, it represents Christianity, and the Crescent Star, doesn't represent Muhammad, it represents Islam, makes it very confusing to interpret what he actually means. Co-exist can mean "co-exist" or universalism.
Well yeah, you have a point there, BUT it's better to view it not as some universalism but as a desire to bring all to one God, Jesus Christ, which Bono openly worships (let's not go into the sincerity, cause we're not the ones to judge). All in all I'm not an expert on Islam, but I can say that Davids star and the Cross can easily coexist. They don't even represent the same thing so.. and also like you said, Christians can also be considered sons of Abraham through promises
Read Romans 4 from the Christian New Testament and you'll see how he's wrong. I'm a Christian; I'm not a Son of Abraham in the same way that a Muslim or Jew is.

Edge really rips it with that masterful guitar sound! Bono not bad on the drums either - Not as good as Larry though!
Yes, we can Co-exist, but they can't all be true! Check out my Contradict channel to understand why.

A false teaching to be sure! Sad that people buy this idea............
