      Dave Du Toit, founder of the VMF, says it again and again and again: monkeys are NOT pets. They are adorable when they are little, and you may have grown up with one, but please remember that God created and placed this animal in its perfect habitat, and to take that little creature out of its natural surroundings for your own pleasure is wrong.

    The babies are always cute, and I think after about 4 Seasons I'm getting better at telling the little ones apart, then I see that the one I thought was a boy is a girl, lol🤷🤦🤦. Oh well.
    I was happy to see Mr Floki, gosh it's amazing seeing him put his foot flat and then being able to push with his toe and heel down. WOW! ♥️♥️♥️
    Shallan is the poster child for resilience and fortitude, truly remarkable! Her recovery is a wonderful testament to the outstanding care that the VMF provides for all of the resident (and "guest") monkeys, and the "in n out" patients. I don't think the majority of monkeys that have come to the VMF would have survived if not for your intervention and remarkable care! Why are their families getting shot and how did the babies survive?

    • @theopinionisthighqualityopinio
      @theopinionisthighqualityopinio Год назад +1

      @@alicekramden8640 Many times the adult vervets are shot by farmers. The babies are saved because they hang on to the mother's stomach, but sometimes they're killed too.
      In South Africa, vervets are considered to be "vermin" and farmers get angry because the vervets eat a small bit of their crop. They seem to forget that the monkeys were there first, way before the farmers were!!
      Anyway, unfortunately they don't die just from being shot. Many are hit by cars or electrocuted on high tension power lines. Some people kill the mothers to get the babies to sell, too. The whole situation is really awful!!
      Thank goodness for the caring and compassionate people at the Vervet Monkey Foundation!!! They've been rescuing orphaned vervets and samangos for thirty years now. If it weren't for the VMF, lots of these primates wouldn't make it. The important thing is that they, the monkeys, were there first and they've had their habitat almost completely destroyed by humans. The people at the VMF are trying to save the monkeys that have been harmed.

    The Karma you all have coming must be off the charts~ I love these little guys, I love the sounds they make when they're "talking", they're just adorable! I've been on a mission to report all of these "Baby monkey" channels on RUclips that are clearly abusing these "pets". First, they shouldn't ever be pets, then these idiots expect them to learn like human children! It makes me so very sad, I've lost countless hours of sleep worrying about their wellbeing. I don't mean to sound like the nosey neighbor or whatever, its just I KNOW they belong with their mothers and you can tell how they vomit after a bottle they almost attack from hunger they're not being fed smaller amounts OFTEN. I used to try to tell them that they nurse all day but those babies are just $$ to them!! RUclips must stop paying abusers!!

    • @alicekramden8640
      @alicekramden8640 Год назад

One video short was a 20 something female doing a manicure on a baby monkey, with a big pair of scissors, not small ones or even nail clippers, one slip and she would have taken a finger or thumb off and she wouldn't have noticed.

      That sounds absolutely horrible!! I can certainly understand why people continue to report those channels. What I don't understand is why YT refuses to do anything about the situation, no matter how many times and how many of those channels have been reported. I refuse to believe the channels are bringing in big bucks to YT, so there must be another reason.
      I don't understand why people continue to watch that stuff, especially since so many know how badly the little monkeys are being treated. Imagine if all of those people found the VMF channel and they could see what it looks like when people really do care about primates!! 🙂

      Angela, I think a lot of us would like to know the same thing. What kind of people can be so heartless?
      Unfortunately, the thing is that in South Africa, these vervets are considered to be "vermin", believe it or not. Lots of farmers think that the troops of vervets are somehow destroying their livelihood by eating a small part of their crop. The truth is that the monkeys were there BEFORE the farmers were, so in truth the farmer has taken away the only places that these primates lived and ate. Anyway, it's usually the farmers that would shoot a whole troop like that, but then there are also people, like some teenagers thinking they're cool or something, who might go out and get some kind of sick pleasure from this kind of thing. It wouldn't be someone wanting to steal the babies to sell, because they left the babies there.
      I agree with you! "I don't get it and it's obviously horrendous to do something like that!! I just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone in feeling this way. The whole thing is beyond belief!!

      I can imagine the situation in the United States and it's got to be really difficult. I'm American, but I've lived in Italy for a really long time. My eldest brother lives in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and they have the same thing going on there. Humans encroaching on areas that have always been for wildlife, so the animals begin to go into the towns for a lot of reasons. It's even happening right across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans, where my other brother lives and where I'm from originally. Louisiana is chock-full of all kinds of animals, but I never thought I'd hear that this kind of thing was going on right outside of New Orleans!! You're absolutely right about it being really sad!!

    Can you elaborate on why the older monkeys are supposedly being shot but the babies aren’t? 🤔 something isn’t adding up

    • @sandrabentley8111

      Maybe because the older ones cause havoc to farmer's crops or even get in a home and rummage for food. They seem to live close to humans, some call them a nuisance like the Table Mountain monkeys, in Cape Town, where they ransack homes in large troops, Even open windows, run through homes etc. Maybe wrong, but it's my guess why the adults are shot. They are treat like vermin.

      The babies are carried by the mother so less of a target, but if shot from below baby and mom would suffer, its when they go gloat over their murder victims that for some reason compassion comes over them and they dont seem to be able to execute the baby or they have a girlfriend that they would like to impress
