Good review of the I30N. Good to see they’re still making 4 door sedans in a manual. Sadly getting very rare these days. I like the sound and that you can track drive it and not loose your warranty. It looks like a fun car to drive. But I’m not sure what’s going on with the panel gaps and strange design choices. Still would consider buying one.
Finally a i30 Sedan N review, this thing is an absolute blast and just stupid fun, 50-60k for this car is a bargain, if this had a German badge on it I guarantee you it would be 20-30k more for the asking price, people are complaining that this is expensive is ludicrous, it’s an absolute bang for your buck, tell me another car in the modern day that comes stock with track warrany, pops and bangs from factory and is immensly fun to drive, it would always put a smile on your face. Ross if you find the manual not very quick then the DCT would change your mind, it’s an absolute hoot, it has super quick shifting and is a game changer, it cuts 0.5 second off the launch time and in a roll it feels like it has an extra 30 kW, but I understand the love of manual for the purist unfortunately these days they aren’t as quick as the modern automatics. I’ve also driven the Sonata N Line and that is also fun to drive, it’s not track heavy as this car as it isn’t a full blown N model but the 2.5 turbo it has underneath its bonnet is an absolute hoot, it has crazy straight line performance and would shock alot of the boy racers out there. Hyundai and Kia are killing it these days, coming out with bangers like this, nothing in JDM market compares these days, the modern WRX is horrible, its looks are starting to grow on people but it still is’t an attractive car and the performance is worse than the WRX of 20 years ago and no STI is a major letdown, the Evo is dead, the moden Supra is basically a BMW, the Nissan Z is too overpriced and you can get similar performance for almost half the price with the Kia Stinger GT, the Skyline hasn’t been around for 2 decades, others such as the Mazda MPS hasn’t made a return, the only decent car is the new gen 86/BRZ but it doesn’t compare to this performance wise but its a good looking car and extremely fun to drive. The Ford Fiesta ST/RS hasn’t made a return and I could go on, in a world currently bombarded with Utes and soccer Mum SUV’s hogging the roads at least Hyundai is making sporty sedans in a market that no longer caters towards the Sedans. God I miss Australia when classic sedans such as the Commodore SS and Falcon XR6 Turbo/XR8 were going head to head, how far we have slumped from those days.
I have the ‘22. You can lift the wipers up. After killing the ignition, hold the mist up within 5 seconds of killing the ignition and the wipers move to straight up and down
I was sold on getting one of these as a sedan, but got told there was a 3 to 6 month wait, picked up a hatch with sunroof instead. These cars pull hard
Johnno the wipers aren't busted mate the Cerato GT and other hyunda/kia cars are the same.. It looks WAY cleaner with them out of view ( look at a commodore etc) and they're tucked down out of the wind at high speed and to service /wash them just look in the manual. You move the wiper stalk a certain way and it opens the wipers half way so they can then be lifted up like any other car.. The traffic speed thing is a government regulation so they can't just get rid of it.. And with the updated model didn't they get a revision to the turbo which made them more responsive and quicker?
regarding the wipers under the bonnet BMW use a similar system where you have to perform a sequence with the start/stop button whilst holding a function on the wiper stalk and the wiper arms will come up the screen and stop for you so that they can be changed. I presume its a similar thing here
Yes 100% 👌 but if they did get ready for a 60k price tag. Looking underneath on other videos there's plenty of room for an awd set-up, they'd sell way more though too. I like but hesitant about the fwd only. Coming from a rwd fg xr6t I'd mis the grip of rwd, and well the hp too lol But 500hp and 775nms is a bit too much as a predominantly street car, unless your on a perfect surface it just bakes tyre lol despite the pilot sport 5s that and if u get on it your well over the speed limit in a blink 😬 Least in the n you can have fun in it and not be too far over unlike my xr where I have to be super careful
Great review Ross! Can confirm the 2023 does not have a speed warning chime. The Panel gaps around the bonet im fairly certain are functional. I agree it's stupid you can't raise the wipers to clean under them!

So true about the Speed Limit Alert system. I'd even go a step further and say it actually causes a distraction. Every time it beeps you instinctively take your eyes off the road and look to see what the car is fussing about. It's not "unsafe", but it's less safe than not having it on. Madness.
I own a Sonata N Line and that car is an absolute FWD tyre shredding rocketsled, I’ve driven the i30 Sedan N (Elantra N) in both DCT and manual and to be honest as much as we all love a manual I honestly preferred the DCT over the Manual in this particular car, it just felt more fun and snappy, we all know the DCT is quicker than the manual but for some reason the DCT just felt more engaging and modern, and I liked the WRC style race shifter on the DCT. Also the manual doesn’t get the fully hectic NGS boost button which is a shame.
you have 2 extra gears to play with.. the DCT is still very fun but you feel much more engaged in the manual.. n they just dont make em like this anymore :(
