Aweesome, love these old school tests! The Jensen A-200 was from 88/89 and original MSRP was $200. Many of the budget amps at this time were made in Korea and you'll see other amps such as Audiovox, Majestic, Sherwood, Alphasonik and others that incorporated the single sided circuit board with all the through the hole components (and lots of physical wiring). It's impressive to me this thing not only still works, but survived the Amp Dyno Tests!
Wow! now that's a blast from the past! I remember those in 1989. had that one and it's baby brother the A-80. I remember the A-80 was $49 and if I remember right those were $99. What a deal for someone at $25
Dude I haven't seen any of those floating around since the early 90s. Even back then I thought they were old. I had a blue Jensen from the mid to late 90s, I liked it.
Thanks Mojo! My friend had a Jensen amp back in the mid 90s that was blue. He had it on two 12 in subs (forget what type) and it bumped good. I always wondered if that amp was doing rated power. At the time a lot of people clowned Jensen amps because they weren't Rockford Fosgate, Orion, PPI, or whatever big brand at the time. But I thought it was a good starter amp and seemed to preform well.
1986 thru 1989 model. 😉 My best friend had one. I remember when he bought it. I was running 2 Kenwood 9020's and a 7020 and he decided that he was getting into car audio with that Jensen. They sell for $25 to $50 now on ebay.
I started driving in 1991 and I couldn’t afford the Jensen’s they sold at Walmart then so I bought one of those that was very used as my first real amp. It replaced a Sparkomatic EQ Booster. So it is definitely from the 80’s. They were selling the more rounded design blue and silver colored Jensens in the early to mid 90s.
I had an amp that looked exactly like that Jensen. It was branded "UNIC", which was a rebranded Pyramid, which was likely a copy of something else. Bought it in 1992 to power 2 PYLE Driver 10" subs in my 1967 VW Beetle. Rated 50 × 2 rms (100 × 2 max), cost a hunerd bucks and it did the job just fine. There was also a 75 × 2 (150 × 2 max) version.
Late 90's I had the a300 and it was 75x2rms @4ohm, wasn't rated 2ohm stable in stereo but was rated 150x1@2ohm. I never understood why it was low but being my first amp i thought it beat the block down on Walmart impp pioneer 12's!
I believe that circuit board only has traces on one side. It's probably like a thin copper trace that's coated in solder to thicken it up. It's all through hole components as SMD wasn't used until later. They had to use a lot of jumper wires due to it being one sided. It's kind of shocking it still works.
Most companies earlier amplifiers were made to compete with other companies using quality parts, and were very well built, before inflated power ratings was a thing. Even Pyramid, Power Acoustics, and believe it or not Majestic.
Now that is old school. BiPolar transistors no mosfets at all. Hand assembled. The caps looked like a generic of Nichicon brand. The caps are probably dried out and need replacement. Tough design throughout; its age and still working like a champ is evidence of a good design. Looks like early to mid 80's to me. By early 90's very little wire used in construction and automated assembly had began, which lowered cost of the product for better profit margin and lower cost for the consumer. Whomever finally gets this should take time and effort to recap (electrolytic capacitors) with USA Sprague or CD equivalent caps, and it will likely keep working 40 - 50 years from now, if it doesn't get blown up dropping to .2 ohms bridged by a novice. Lol. With a good set of efficient 6x9 speakers like Kenwood R series, it would fill an automobile with decent full range sound probably for normal daily listening. Great video as always and 100% up front and on the level 👍. Our politicians could learn something from you. Like the voltmeter bridge test. I typically used a small speaker for that, but it definitely works and I will use that as well. Old dog-new tricks. LoL. If it doesn't sell quickly let me know; ok. @@everyangle4310 yes, sort of. Jensen has always been kinda “decent”, especially the new ones that can be bought at WM currently. This amp is better than my first 2 amps. Not good, but yes, “decent”.

Wow, this was from the 80’s. This was my first Amp. My truck got broken into and someone stole it and my subs. Never seen it again

Had the same amp. Ran it from a Crayco deck into a 2x12 guitar cab bridged to mono, and it was so loud it ecoed off buildings.

I also remember Wal-Mart selling a Kraco 140 at the same time they were selling this. I don’t remember a Jenson 140.

Thanks for the input Michael!
I came across this amplifier on eBay, and they were saying it's from the 1990s? Don't know for sure if that is right, it looks more like a late '80s.
Nice
Haven't seen the video yet.. paused..its Jensen. It will do rated.
