A Technic set that actually involves technical ingenuity, plus many new parts for the actual crunch of the entire Technic line - highly desired gear and gearbox pieces? It might not be the prettiest thing (hello multi-coloured pins), but this is otherwise a huge step in the right direction for Technic. Technic is technical again.
Great review and a great looking model, but three of the cons you listed kinda sealed it for me. Repetition/deja vu is a concern, the same reason I skipped the Ferrari Daytona even though there's some changes here and there. But value is probably this set's biggest weakness for a number of reasons; it just doesn't seem as good despite the same scale and overall size compared to the BMW. I know the BMW had flaws to it but that set felt like it had a good amount of meat to it, yet the BMW isn't dramatically more costly and it's often discounted nowadays as it's been around for a while now. Even when not comparing the Yamaha to the BMW bike, the value still doesn't feel great, being quite a fair bit more costly than the Heavy Duty Tow Truck, John Deere 948L-II Skidder and even the Peugeot 9X8 Hypercar. The Peugeot set I just finished and it was a very good enjoyable build and it took a huge price slash today, by 42%, so it's now only £97 after only two and a bit months. Although I expect similar to happen to the Yamaha, it's a likely pass regardless.
Like this video way more than others. For Technic sets specially with new evolutionary parts such detailed reviews are actually preferred and helpful. Been watching Sariel vids even when I was in my dark age. It is a relief to see how Sariel's review pattern remain unchanged. Much appreciated. It's amazing how his Technic reviews shape up a prospective/potential Technic buyer's views/perspective 👍
Review Score 28/35 I already got Lego BMW M1000RR, Should I get this Yamaha MT-10SP? New gearbox system are interesting. Price quite steep. Maybe wait until black Friday sales.
For a different kind of bike, with stand out colours, they should make the John Britten V1000 super-bike, which was a home built bike that was a world beater... :). john britten v1000
The new pieces are nice, but it's hard to tell how necessary they were. They don't seem that functionally different to what we have, and it makes me wonder if the same gearbox style and dimensions can be replicated with the pieces we already have.
Very mixed feelings, and not just because of the insane price. The best thing, besides the new parts, is obviously the limited number of stickers, which also feel very much optional. But as cool as it looks, the real thing has a very distinct frame shape, which is completely absent here. But what's most disappointing: Even when this is a *NAKED* bike, you still hardly see anything that's happening on the inside. If only they build it much more open, and made some removable panels from System pieces for the frame....
Maybe I missed it because I didn't see the whole video, otherwise the hint that the original has six gears and not just three. In addition, I don't like functions with rubber bands, they just don't last ten years or more.
seems like a massive missed opportunity for Yamaha to choose this bike over the Niken GT, which i only learned it existed when i went to look it up how the MT-10 looks after seeing this set come out....just go and google the Niken, i wait here. That would have been a real head-turner instead of this fairly standard looking bike, since anyways this is more about increasing the brand image than selling more bikes.
bikes like the Niken have a reputation of being made for folks that are scared to ride a normal 2 wheeled bike and need training wheels (and to be fair it's not easy to justify all that extra weight), so it may have been a weird take
@@tank-eleven other then the novelty it's mostly aimed at people who'd have difficulty maintaining balance and otherwise wouldn't ride, like too short legs, injuries/disabilities, age related issues, etc. also probably cops and delivery guys and other situations where you spend all day on and off the bike and gets tiring so the self-stability is welcomed. "scared to ride a normal 2 wheeled bike" is kinda short sighted, don't be that guy.
Thanks for the review. I'm happy with this release; I liked the last model but I'm not really a BMW guy. But I do like, and own, Yamahas... (I don't like choppers or cruisers either....)
comparing the real bike with this model the panel placement is quit off, the seat does not look good in my opinion. so for the total review pro/cons the set gets a lot of stars !!!!! thanks for the review.
Yamaha has 500 pieces fewer and is 30 euro more expensive (199€ vs 229€) than bmw but despite that you gave both of them 4 stars for value, why is that?
It's technically cheaper than BMW and if BMW can be found discounted now, a year after it's release, then probably Yamaha will be even cheaper a year from now.
230 € for that thing 😂 Current lego pricing is just a garbage. For that money I can have retro masterpiece, that will be better looking and going high on value.
So we're paying 140 euro for the parts and 100 euro for the AR app? Hope it will still be working in 20 years...
The cooperation with Yamaha is quite interesting.
I'm looking forward to new sets, like chainsaws and pianos.
We already have a typewriter, so a piano isn't so far-fetched!
@@bibasik7they made a piano like 5 years ago
Quads too maybe. Halfway to a licensed speedboat
The pianos are made by Yamaha Corporation, which Yamaha Motor Company is technically no longer affiliated with
It looks like gearboxes are getting a lot more realistic, next thing they’ll do is add little cylinder heads on the engines.
I don't know what do you mean this model has 4 cylinders

The AR suite is actually wild, might have to pick up this set purely for that. Makes up for the fact that you can't physically see inside the set

Thanks. Hopefully the gearbox doesn't jam after a bit of use like the BMW did for me, requiring a rebuild.
The BMW falling apart was a feature, just like the real BMW :) The Yamaha also seems to be true to the real version in this regard, very durable!
