    What kills me is that in the past few years, multiple excellent Corvette models reached 10,000 supporters on Ideas, mainly a C2 and C3, which Lego ultimately didn't approve. Then here comes along an official Lego Corvette set, where they picked the most difficult Corvette to build and it unsurprisingly looks terrible! They had good potential Corvette sets handed to them on a silver platter! Why on earth is THIS the Corvette set we got, of all things? It makes no sense.

      Lego ideas has many weird choices made by them. Can someone explain to me how BTS Dynamite set was approved despite having so many better choices? This dynamite is an abomination of a set.

    • @AHYL88
      @AHYL88 Год назад

      @@oskarskalski2982 BTS Dynamite was likely approved because of the huge popularity of the boy band; they may not be our kind of music taste but they're huge in Asia. The music video the set is based on has 1.7 BILLION views, while their official RUclips channel called BANGTANTV has almost 76 million subscribers.
      The fans of the band are crazy in that they'll buy anything with BTS on them; the BTS Dynamite set is terrible value and certainly not for majority of Lego fans but from Lego's point of view, as cynical as it may be, it makes sense why they went for that set. Lots of income of course from new Lego customers but also high potential of those customers to not just buy the BTS set but other sets in the other ranges also. So even if only say 1% of those 76 millions subs buy the BTS set, that's still a ton of income.

    Not every form can recreated with Lego. There are restrictions of what can be achieved using bricks.
    Lego should maybe restrict themselves to building cars that can be built better. There are enough blocky cars out there - like the Ford Lincoln Continental Mk III / IV or V

    • @firanbricks
      @firanbricks Год назад +2

      What about even more curvy Corvette C3 - it was made as a C Model of Porsche 10295 by Firas Abujaber. It's really hard to design good looking curvy models using bricks, but it's not impossible.

    • @Thinginator
      @Thinginator Год назад

      I disagree, it's hard to make actual curves with Lego but approximating curves and tricking your eye into seeing curves there is very doable. Just because Lego is blocky doesn't mean blocks can't look like curves. Just look at the models in Legoland, they manage to make recognizable and curvy-looking vehicles out of mostly basic plates and jumper plates. The problem with the Corvette set I think is that the designer was obsessed with smoothness, which IMO is not as important as approximating the actual shape as close as possible. If the general shape is close enough, you'll see it as smooth even if it isn't. But this car's shape is all wrong, so it looks like an ugly uncanny valley Corvette.

    To me it feels like the designers of the recent Icons cars don't have the genius touch with parts that Mike Psiaki brought to the line. It feels like the designer of this set gave up on trying to shape the front and just accepted the flat appearance. It's disappointing. P.S. Great song choice to open the video. Definitely gives it an early sixties open road vibe.

      @philp8872 Год назад

      Until this picture of this dark red 300 SL I never realised how much I want a real one ;)
      Jokes aside, this curved beauty of a car wouldn´t end up looking good as a lego set, I suppose much worse than the Corvette or even the Aston DB5.
      The Mustang or the Camaro have just the right amount of straight and cornered shape to look good as a lego set. And it´s a miracle the Porsche looks as good as it does in lego form, with all it´s subtle curves. But even the Porsche, I feel it has some very wrong shapes.
      Everything blockier would translate better into Lego, what about a Toyota Landcruiser BJ4, or an early Lotus Esprit?

    • @Danse_Macabre_125
      @Danse_Macabre_125 Год назад

      @philp8872 DB5 was only "aesthetically challenged" because of it's James Bond movie functions. Lego should try a Countach at this scale, preferably white with a red interior like the SC one

    Completely feel the same when I first saw the images. I was expecting it to be an MOC or a predict image. The front just looks completely different from the c1, and the side looks as if the designer just grabbed a random Lego piece to describe the curve and called it a day.

    I don't get why they went for the face-lifted C1 instead of the original one, though I'm guessing it's because the original ones came with the Blue Flame straight-six instead of a V8 and LEGO wanted to put something nice in that engine bay... Still, the lines on the front end of the original one were much better and cleaner, and the rear was great too, with the exhaust routed through the rear "jet engine" trim pieces.

    Despite price, and inaccuracy which is unfortunate in how authentic most of the other cars look I feel it fares a lot better in the shaping than the DB5 Biggest issue to is the proportions of that car are completely wrong for the scale while the Corvette here looks properly sized. The front end/hardtop could use a bit of trouble shooting/refinement but other than that like the basic functions, and how it displays next to the other cars. Would look great beside the classic pickup as it's in the same era but a real shame they both ended up red. Wonder if Lego will offer it in the rumored yellow at a later time.

    The corvette was also an odd choie of car as we got a chevrolet branded car last year in the form of the camaro.Even if lego had designed a c2 or c3 corvette the shape would be blocky as the curves of the corvette cannot be represented by square lego pieces.The lego speed champions set 76903 from 2021 had a 1968 c3 corvette whose shape was blocky even though it had the 8 stud wide design where cars can be more accurate and detailed

    Normally I prefer coupes, but this just doesn't look good with the roof on. At first I thought the model looked very nice, and to me it still does, but wow I didn't realise how far from the source material it is.
    After the rather high price and cost cutting of the Camaro and the seriously higher cost of the Land Rover Defender, it was basically time to move away from the Icons cars, and this Corvette doesn't sway me. The value proposition of this range already looked bad over the past year, and it's made even worse with this Corvette as well as recent discounts of the Camaro (which is looking desperate as I've never seen an Icons vehicle get frequently and heavily discounted before), and other sets in other ranges, like the Technic Peugeot 9X8.

In the icons area they are really overpriced and with really big design flaws, like the camaro being black, the land rover with the wrong colour or a structure with things nobody asked about, and now this blocky corvette that looks like a chinese copy of lego.

In its original incarnation, the Corvette was not a muscle car; that happened later. Lego already did a couple of muscle cars (including another Chevy), so this stands out as something different.
