Old sewing machines. The artwork on the machine with all the wonderful metal parts and the beautiful intricate detail on the solid oak stands and legs. I just love them.
Yes. But he always sounds so sad. But when I think of our lots of favourite Finns - Mika, Kimi, Janne,... - then I am sure, that he is a cool and nice guy. :-)
Amazing to think that you are taking something apart that was once being put together by people in another place and another time. The first time those parts have been removed since they were laid in place all those years ago.
I must have watched about 7 or 8 different 'coffee grinder restoration' videos and they're all great. Dunno what it is about these things that make them so satisfying to watch.
It's always so shocking how quite this guy's videos are. I feel like if a penny dropped off his workbench it would shatter my eardrums. 10/10 would watch again.
Oh my god, when he talked I literally looked around like WHAT IS THAT WHERE IS IT COMING FROM? Also I love these Odd Tinkering videos and I am obsessed with them. I'm super inspired to get into this restoration hobby. Fixing dead pixels and loose screen cover on my original GameBoy today. Going yard sale-ing this weekend to look for some kind of beginner project with metal or wood.
Look at you with a sandblaster now...haha Congrats!! I love that you use a hand screwdriver, not a power one, the power ones can destroy those old screws. That coffee grinder is absolutely beautiful!!!
From someone that loves vintage and antique items, I have to say that this was very satisfying to watch. I own 2 coffee grinders. One has a porcelain bowl and the other is cast iron with some intricate designs on the grinder housing. It was very rusty when I purchased it and just like yours, the bottom wood was cracked in the back. All I did to it was put olive oil on the metal to try and preserve it. If only I had your talent! I wonder what it would look like restored.
Great video as always and you have a voice! I had no idea that you can set the coarse on these old. I therefore got a electric one... Must find out if my grandmoms coffee grinder is still intact. Thank you!
I normally hate woodwork and metal work, but you make it seem so relaxing and therapeutic! It triggers my ASMR! I appreciate how you make all the loud tools quiet, the sanding is a bit to loud, but I can just turn ny headphone volume down. Love your work dude, Keep it up!
What a weird backhanded complaint/complement. If you usually hate wood and metal work why are you here? And yeah, obviously if anything you listen to through headphones is too loud you can turn it down, that's the entire point of adjustable volume. That's like saying "the sun is so bright and inconvenient, but I guess I can just put on sunglasses." No shit sherlock.
Yes they are beautiful and you Sir did a lovely job of that one it really is beautiful. You could restore some vintage phones and lampshades, some of them were incredible.
Thanks for this video😊because my grandfather used to have grinder like this one and when I was little presented it to me and it was a fond reminder of him even if he just died. So thanks😁
This video is great! I watched this and started tinkering with mine for HOURS! (I'm not mechanically inclined) My burrs are rather dull but after watching this and some patience I got it working nicely. Just kept having to adjust the height of the burr until I could get a grind that wasn't too coarse and yet not too fine. Fine grind on dull burrs does not work well.....you'll be grinding for an hour. So I ended up setting mine up to a medium-coarse grind perfect for what I'll be using it for.
There are some other good ones out there. Rescue & Restore has one strikingly similar, if it doesn't upset this guy to be sorta kinda promoting another channel. Apologies if it does, feel free to delete me if so. But they both do very nice thorough work & you're missing out 😁
I have a few I watch , My Mechanics, Tysy tube restorations , are a couple that are really good but then there are some dodgy ones too , try a couple and like and subscribe to the ones you like , share the ❤😺
I think it has to do with the video styles. His are to the point and straight forward and focus on the object and not a logo.. choughtysytubecough cough
Congrats on the 400k subs! Pretty cool some beans were left in there. And it always makes me chuckle when stuff goes flying in your shop and your hands just say "meh".
I watch these and listen to music in the back ground. I heard someone speak and though someone walked in the room. Of course, it is close to Halloween so it is time for a good scare! Love the coffee grinder! Glad to see you have a sponsor!
I can't lie, your sudden voice startled the heck out of me! It was nice to finally hear it though, and I'm so happy you got a sponsor! Thank you for all your lovely videos, I hope you make many more and have much happiness! =)
Hey, I can finally hear your voice, unless there was an older video I missed lol Another great restoration. I don't mind your brand sponsoring. Got to get the moolah somehow.
OMG THE RESTORATION MASTERMIND ACTUALLY SPEAKS! side question. have you ever had to give up on a restoration because you misplaced a piece to what you were working on?
The common restoration video - manual coffee grinder. Has all the basic elements: Wood, Brass, Steel, Rust, Staining, Polishing. All restoration channels would be incomplete with out one or two coffee grinders. Missing is the basic oil lamp. The lighters theme is a bonus.
Hey, I'm looking to try restoring stuff at home, will you ever make a video for absolute basics of restoring, like what tools a begginer have, some simple items that can be easily restored and stuff like that? Cool grinder too!
Great job! Coffee beans are oily especially the brown ones. Using the grinder regularly will keep it from rusting, with periodic cleanings, should last forever. If its for displaying only, plating the parts is a great thing.
Ketchup is slightly acidic which is good for cleaning certain types of metals such as brass and copper. Alot of old antique items use a liberal amount of brass which is why ketchup is a popular 'trick' for restoration.
Cheryl Hartwig You have to avoid cheaper ketchups which can contain red dyes, not the best choice for restoration. (Cheap ketchup is made from lower grade tomatoes, which are still wholesome but often partly underripe. If they don't dye it red it looks muddy grey in the bottle. The things you learn working in a tomato processing plant.)
Awesome restoration. This coffee grinder looks near perfect. What other items you ask? I think a brass carbit lamp would be nice they look beautiful even unrestored they look amazing. Greetings,, Kitty.
I have a suggestion to offer. Rather than sand the old finish or use a chemical stripper, which you seem reluctant to do and I don't blame you, I suggest you get a cabinet scraper. You can remove the finish from flat surfaces rapidly and with no more loss of wood than with sand paper, it's cheaper in the long run because a scraper and burnisher will last a long time so you don't spend so much on sand paper, and it produces a beautiful surface that takes a finish better because you don't clog the pores of the wood like when you abrade the surface.
I love how these vintage and antique coffee grinders are always so beautiful. What other item you think used to look beautiful?
Old waffleirons and espresso cookers, they have a brassy industrial charm
Old Radios
Classic vinyl player, that think looks vintage and beautiful
Old sewing machines. The artwork on the machine with all the wonderful metal parts and the beautiful intricate detail on the solid oak stands and legs. I just love them.
Sewing machines are one of them. Looked so cool.
This guy has a voice? Interesting.
This is revolutionary news to me
No, i hope. Videos without voice - so cool!
With just a tiny hint of "Rally Finnish", even. I like it!
Yes. But he always sounds so sad. But when I think of our lots of favourite Finns - Mika, Kimi, Janne,... - then I am sure, that he is a cool and nice guy. :-)
My fav restoration channel got a brand deal!!! Hell yeah! Make that money homie
Thanks. Hopefully it helps me to make even more great videos

Nothing like watching another RUclips restorer do a coffee grinder.
Great video, Tinker! I've watched every coffee grinder restoration I could find! Loved them all!
