  • So today I changed up the true dual exhaust setup I have on my 2018 F150, and have a X-pipe installed. Hopefully y’all enjoy the direct comparison of the 2.

    The exhaust is 100% better with the X-pipe installed. Don't be afraid to add a small resonator to trim the tone a bit more, if necessary....

    Sounds infinitely better with the x pipe. A set of flowfx mufflers would make it sound perfect imo. Regardless, nice truck 👍

  • @videomaniac108
    @videomaniac108 2 года назад +7

    Because of the alternate bank firing order of the Coyote 5.0 V-8, the exhaust pulses in each bank are 180⁰ apart. The other bank's pulses are also 180⁰ apart but are 90⁰ out of phase with the other bank. Merging the two flows with an X-pipe crossover will blend the high pressure pulses from one bank with the low pressure zones between pulses of the other bank will cause the high pressure pulses to be accelerated at the junction and create a low pressure wave to propagate back the header pipe towards the cylinders, scavenging exhaust flow during valve overlap on some cylinders. This causes better cylinder filling and an increase in volumetric efficiency and torque, something you see on the dyno and feel in the car.
    The X-pipe also changes the tone of the exhaust, creating a single stream that has a fundamental frequency twice that of the true dual setup and lower in pressure amplitude, because of the stream of pulses diverging into two pipes after the X junction.

    I had an automotive teacher back in the 90's who would always say "stock is beautiful" I didn't understand it at the time because I was a teenager and wanted to hot rod everything. But as I got older I understood. This video is a perfect example, loud obnoxious waste of money that's less powerful than the factory designed stock exhaust.
    Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with building hot rods, but there also tons of aftermarket crap that just wastes money and makes the vehicle run worse because it doesn't work well with all the other factory parts that were designed to work together. Basically certain aftermarket parts throw a wrench in the works and just make everything worse.

      There was definitely a decibel drop with the X-pipe. The truck didn’t become quiet by any means, it was still loud, but the true duals compared to the X-pipe was like night and day. Of course videos don’t do exhaust justice and you’ll know for sure on how it sounds in person. Plus, the 5.0 is just a loud motor. Cat back True duals on a 5.0 is going to be a lot louder than a 5.3 or 6.2 with cat back true duals.

    Jesus I hate that clapping sound. 2 1/4 inch pipe and no mufflers. Always sounds the same especially with big tips. Sorry to hate on it, anything that claps like that is a no go in my book

      The clap/chop exhaust sound is definitely an acquired taste. I personally enjoy it, but there is such thing as too much, which it definitely was before the X-pipe.

      The X pipe toned it down a decent bit, I’m satisfied with its level of loudness and aggressiveness. Anything more and I think it’ll be too quite for my liking.

    Someone sold you wheels with the wrong backspacing. Either that or you have no respect for anyone following you in the rain. looks are obviously a personal preference, but that crap literally damages cars around and behind you. Also, truck sounds great but a small bullet muffler would probably make it more livable.

    • @kev_lsn7042

      The wide wheels do more damage to the body of my truck than it does to any vehicle around me. Furthermore, the street tires aren’t bad for slinging rocks and debris. Maybe If it were mud tires, but even then it would mainly do damage to my truck.

      @@kev_lsn7042 As a man who lives where this is a popular "mod", it does in fact throw crap on everyone behind you whether you know it or not. This is the reason there are DOT laws about fender flares and tire coverage. Not because they're in the pockets of "big fender flare". Otherwise I dig the truck. Not that my opinion matters. Just don't husk road crap on my old truck or car. Or motorcycle.
