    Actually, this is a pretty good metaphor about how consumerism pressures people to consume things they do not need, or in many cases even want, just because we can produce it.
    The fact that it was an essay written (well, dictated) by blind and deaf from birth Helen Keller is actually incredible.

      oh now I get it, thanks for pointing it out! I always forget to read the video description. I though this was a bit condescending to men like the 50s videos were to women. This videos is going to get a lot of dislikes from men that like me didn't read the video description. I think the joke will go over many people's heads....and even if it doesn't it still won't be funny for them. Just like some women don't find Dave Chappels jokes about women funny.

    This video has very little to do with feminism. It is about the cons of capitalism being played out in an easily understandable small scale setting.

      Magari, the “invisible hand” isn’t perfect. Sorry Adam Smith. Sometimes too much of a product is made and consumers have zero demand, but when there are big corporations, they can use advertising to make you buy something you neither truly want nor need.

    • @ParadiseofDarkness
      @ParadiseofDarkness 6 лет назад +4

      But cakes can last a month in the icebox and even if he made extra he could sell them to the neighborhood or give them to the poor to help out. This makes zero sense.

    • @blah7983
      @blah7983 6 лет назад +2

      Magari Adam Smith is the inventor of capitalism, he argued that the “invisible hand” (supply and demand) would make sure that everyone could get what they needed preventing corporation control over commodities. But there are other factors besides supply and demand.

      graphic organizer I mean, the games were very popular, it’s just something to relate them to. There’s no problem with finding a “blank-esc” style unless it is completely different from said style. Personally I do see it relating to cuphead since the entirety of the game is that style, but with bendy it’s only small bits and pieces. That’s just my personal thoughts on it.
      Hope that helps a bit!

    As a feminist I need to point out the obvious. This is a cartoon illustrating the flaws of capitalism writting by Helen Keller in the 1930s. It comes across as sexist, because it was written in the 1930s. This video is not about feminism, at least at the time the idea of "getting men into the kitchen" was in fact a feminist ideal of showing men that "womens work" should be respected and learned from. Just look at the classic I love Lucy episode where her and her husband switch roles. It's riddled with sexism by today's standards but was highly feminist by theirs. Anyway learn more about Helen Keller before calling this economic piece "sexist".

    • @NYM0
      @NYM0 6 лет назад +5

      i have an unrelated question but, ive seen alot of videos where feminists put men below themselves and go as far as to say that all men are rapists. Have you ever met another feminist who says or believes in that?
      ps. im not assuming anything about you

    • @berbnobirbyes.8583
      @berbnobirbyes.8583 6 лет назад +37

      DJ.HoneyRat I know this wasn’t directed towards me but I am also a feminist and yes, we run into those people from time to time.
      I hate when everyone thinks all feminists are 3rd wave feminists. Some people are not calling them self a feminist anymore as well just because of the stupid people...! :/
      The line “who run the world? Girls.” Still annoys me. Technically we run the world because we give birth but it makes it sound like girls are above guys. I don’t think girls are below guys though; I think they are on even ground.
      I wish masculinity wasn’t such a prison for guys and femininity wasn’t such a standard for girls.

    Why are we having gender wars in 2018? Instead of men versus women we should have business operators versus home operators or better yet people can just stick to what they’re good at. If a woman is good at business strategy then she can run a business.
    If a man can manage a household they have the right to do so.

    I think you might need more than a title card to show that this video is based on an essay written eighty six years ago by someone who is largely forgotten today (certainly-I’d wager-by most people on RUclips) and which explains the outdated solutions to the outdated problems. Still it was a great effort and hugely entertaining not to say quaint. Next time try something out the gilded age since we seem to be swinging past Ms. Keller’s time period and right into the age of the robber barons. Maybe an essay by a famous muckraker like Upton Sinclair or Ida M Tarbell to encourage the muckraker of tomorrow. I’m sure you can find something in your archives.

      What happens when stuff "goes bad" or gets outdated? Of course, it's still a waste of resources to make it when the "family" or targeted market gets "full/tired of it" or no longer has any demand for it. It's a nice analogy when you see the right parallels, but you still have a good point. I just felt like adding my two cents here lol

    Hellen was wrong about businesses producing outside of demand, maybe in the thirties but not now. Firms try hard to adjust production for demand and if the demand is not as high as supply they will adjust to attempt to meet it until equalibrium is met and if they don't the firm will fail.

    The men use the labor saving machines to get more work done at their workplaces, increasing the economic value that they produce. The amount of work in a household is the same, with labor saving devices reducing the amount that humans have to do.

      Nick C not by individuals with severe disabilities, read the black stork! We should put the focus on women with disabilities who empower and value all individuals, not just those they deem valuable. This comment is not at all against you, I didn't learn about her dark side until I was taking classes specifically to be a special education teacher. I'm pointing out how public schools put most of the focus on her when talking about disabilities even though she's extremely problematic and we have better role models to look up to with disabilities

    she doesn't know much about economics?
    she probably does the house spending and has to plan for grocery's and clothing purchases? like??
    at least ... its shoiwn she has common sense..
    and the cartoon makes a valid point about making the industry pay for wasting resources on things no one needs

      You can actually learn a lot when it comes to managing a household, TBH. Knowing the amount you can spend, produce goods that will benefit said household, dealing with waste, bills, other members of the household, etc. A lot of people these days have difficulty doing so, at least those who didn't put theory to practice like myself. Both my parents instilled this kind of knowledge from an early age, mainly because I'm responsible for an autistic relative when mom and dad die
      Its something that gets taken for granted, but its necessary info for survival in this world . . .

    I can see how this thesis in the shape of this metaphor would make sense when it was created. mid great depression. but today you also ha e to realize the true span of globalization and near century of stability consumerism has had. If this metaphor was updated the husband would sell the cakes adjusting the price so he may be rid of as many as possible. those extras cakes as well are not necessarily a bad thing as storage and later consumption of goods should their ever be an inability to make new cakes. and if you counter that last point of that saying aomething along the lines of it will be outdated. I know of people who have gotten this far with nothing but a admittably outdated iPod.
