The new UI is great, also Monk/Wand combo is busted.

    When I do a Monk run I like to keep a weapon that has sword dance, guard etc. a power that doesn’t have to be used to attack. That way I can equip it and meditate for the reduced cost whenever I want.

    Talking about a new beta: it introduced a lot of cursed wand effect, doubling the amount of them if I remember correctly. With this in mind it would be interesting to see a wondrous resin trinket run

      sure, I'll make a note of that, I've actually never used the wondrous trinket at all.

    Oh now I see the full change to Combined Energy! The only returning 1 energy (instead of half the energy spent) is a big nerf to this ability but the new feature is a buff: now you only need to use the weapon ability and the monk ability within 5 turns of each other! You used to have to use both abilities consecutively (in either order), so it meant you often had to finish a fight with a weapon ability (even if you didn't want to) in order to get the cheaper meditate after the enemy was gone. This was quite bad if you were using a weapon whose ability wasn't useful for finishing an enemy, which was many of the weapon types in the game: both of the shields (block ability), both the dirk and the assassin's blade (short range teleport), the quarterstaff (defensive stance), the scimitar (sword dance), as well as the sickle and war scythe (harvest, which does bleeding damage instead of regular damage. None of these weapon abilities could finish off an enemy so they were very bad weapons to use on a Monk due to the power of Combined Energy. Now you can use literally any weapon ability in the game and all you have to do is finish off the enemy within 4 turns and then meditate by the 5th turn!

      ah yes! I just realized I was still using it like it was the old version in my latest recording. I got a good tip about using the shields guard then the discounted meditate, so we don't need enemies around at all.

      @@runningfromcake Oh yeah, with that combo if you take the the 2 extra points in combined energy then you can use a finishing blow on the last enemy to set up a 1-point-cost focus and then swap to shield with no enemies around to set up a cheap meditate (which will give back weapon charges anyway)! This lets you keep focus up all the time between fights which is super great for walking through a door and blocking a warlock shot. Nothing worse than getting hit as soon as you open a door!

    From the third boss actually if you are front of the wall angle in the middle you are 100% sure to touch the pillar with the disintegration wand
    So no need to check the position first 😊

    Nice DM-300 fight! I'm not gonna tell you whether to max out the wand or invest in another weapon! You're having lots of fun with this run and I think pretty much anything goes at this point. Monk is in a really great spot with this update! Love to see the new UI stuff too!

  • @chongli297
    @chongli297 2 месяца назад

    Okay, I officially dub this run: awesome! Even though you can no longer do the super-cheap 2.5 energy meditate, all the other new stuff is really good and makes the wand Monk more versatile. I love how crazy the dash is (8 TILES)! Also, you might not have noticed but Evan took away the TIMER on Focus. So now you can use Focus once and you just have it permanently until it blocks an attack. This gives you a really good reason to put 3 talent points into combined energy just so you can combo weapon abilities with Focus to make it cost only 1 energy and then you can have it active all the time! Plus if you have Focus energized it doesn't even cost a turn to activate! I wonder if it can block evil eye beams and Yog lasers now?!

      wow that's actually pretty ridiculous. I missed out on putting the talent points into it for now but I can make a potion in inspiration and get two more points for it. FIMA monk even more busted now.

    • @TypingHazard

      Not 100% sure but I think it has to do with the update adding trinkets to the journal. If you drop and pick up the trinket it ought to ID it. Typically it's ID'ed when you acquire it, but since there was no "acquire event" if you already had it in inventory when the beta came out, it sits unidentified.
      I noticed my spirit bow was not in the journal when I reloaded my Sniper run, and so I dropped the bow and retrieved it, and it put it in the journal. I noticed that none of the other characters unique items were in the journal despite me definitely having played with every class in the game previously. I then started a New Game with Warrior and the broken seal popped into the journal.
      So tldr, these items go in the journal on new games and on drop/pickup.
