Don't give up and use this experience to learn from...you are truly gifted. But do other things as well to build your social media following. Because you are honest, people will stick with you. No Sam mustn't give up. I have never seen such graceful and powerful dives carried out by any other diver. It's truly staggering that he didn't make the Olympics. But he's young and needs to get back out there. So sorry he didn't make it.

This is a fascinating glimpse into how close the competition is. When you were showing the dives, I kept thinking, "okay...okay...where's the screwup?" and you didn't really have any big mistakes. As you've said before, people at your level all know how to do the same dives...it's just a question of who puts them down best at comps when the judges are scoring. I'm so sorry for your disappointment. Would've loved to watch you in Paris, but will be watching you elsewhere! Thank you for your honest share(s). As a schoolgirl, I used to go to the swimming pool to watch a friend diving. Sie was so brave and I really admired her. I think my presence and attention were a great motivation for her. Some of the best in their craft face big disappointments or even refusals, there are so many examples, only to succeed and shine anyway and I am confident that that is what you'll do as well. The hard thing seems to be the higher you're already up the mountain, the bigger and harder it feels to experience any setback.

It's really brave for a man conditioned to suck it up in the face of failure, and it's awesome that you acknowledge feeling the pain of failure before a world audience. I'm very glad that you aren't quitting, Sam. You are old enough to know not to quit if you want to win and are too young to quit. In the American military, after every exercise, the staff briefs the general (or admiral) about what went right, what went wrong, and "the lessons learned." They must do so candidly and honestly because ultimate success depends upon fixing what went wrong. You are two-thirds of the way to earning an Olympic medal, Sam. In preparation for making this video, you apparently took an honest look at each of your dives, and you have acknowledged what went wrong as far as the technical aspects of your dives. In your own words, you have admitted that your dives were not mediocre but also were not your personal best, and in your heart, you know that to qualify, as well as to win a medal, you must give your personal best. You also acknowledged that the divers who made it did well, but maybe that was just the good sportsman in you. Now, you need to figure out your own "lessons learned." Were you over-confidant? Was it knowing that you have the talent and skills to go to the Olympics and bring home an Olympic medal--you do, you know--that caused you to relax your guard where maybe you should not have done? Were you well-rested and feeling well, or did excitement get the better of you? If these issues were present for you on the day of the trials, you know you can fix them and that you must fix them. You said that the two divers who made it did their dives well; if that's accurate, then this time, they deserved to go forward. It's a shame that all the training comes down to two days of trials on which one must strive for perfection or at least give one's personal best, but that's how it is. You can't repeat the dives to fix them on the same day, but you CAN fix them. You are too great an athlete to quit. Keep training as if the real trials are a month or a couple of weeks away, and repeat your weekly training with that thought in mind. When you think you can't do any more, let your muscle memory take over. Don't stop training and let your muscles forget. Then, one day, in the not-too-distant future, Australia will call to you to take your place on the Olympic diving platform, but to do so, you must be ready.

This is a fascinating glimpse into how close the competition is. When you were showing the dives, I kept thinking, "okay...okay...where's the screwup?" and you didn't really have any big mistakes. As you've said before, people at your level all know how to do the same dives...it's just a question of who puts them down best at comps when the judges are scoring. I'm so sorry for your disappointment. Would've loved to watch you in Paris, but will be watching you elsewhere! Thank you for your honest share(s). As a schoolgirl, I used to go to the swimming pool to watch a friend diving. Sie was so brave and I really admired her. I think my presence and attention were a great motivation for her. That is awonderful memory.

Some of the best in their craft face big disappointments or even refusals, there are so many examples, only to succeed and shine anyway and I am confident that that is what you'll do as well. The hard thing seems to be the higher you're already up the mountain, the bigger and harder it feels to experience any setback.

I'm very glad that you aren't quitting, Sam. You are old enough to know not to quit if you want to win and are too young to quit.
In the American military, after every exercise, the staff briefs the general (or admiral) about what went right, what went wrong, and "the lessons learned." They must do so candidly and honestly because ultimate success depends upon fixing what went wrong.
You are two-thirds of the way to earning an Olympic medal, Sam. In preparation for making this video, you apparently took an honest look at each of your dives, and you have acknowledged what went wrong as far as the technical aspects of your dives. In your own words, you have admitted that your dives were not mediocre but also were not your personal best, and in your heart, you know that to qualify, as well as to win a medal, you must give your personal best. You also acknowledged that the divers who made it did well, but maybe that was just the good sportsman in you.
Now, you need to figure out your own "lessons learned." Were you over-confidant? Was it knowing that you have the talent and skills to go to the Olympics and bring home an Olympic medal--you do, you know--that caused you to relax your guard where maybe you should not have done? Were you well-rested and feeling well, or did excitement get the better of you? If these issues were present for you on the day of the trials, you know you can fix them and that you must fix them. You said that the two divers who made it did their dives well; if that's accurate, then this time, they deserved to go forward. It's a shame that all the training comes down to two days of trials on which one must strive for perfection or at least give one's personal best, but that's how it is. You can't repeat the dives to fix them on the same day, but you CAN fix them.
You are too great an athlete to quit. Keep training as if the real trials are a month or a couple of weeks away, and repeat your weekly training with that thought in mind. When you think you can't do any more, let your muscle memory take over. Don't stop training and let your muscles forget. Then, one day, in the not-too-distant future, Australia will call to you to take your place on the Olympic diving platform, but to do so, you must be ready.
