  • “Lady” was the first of several hit Styx songs that Dennis DeYoung wrote for his longtime wife, Suzanne. It became the first hit song for the band, and it is largely held to be the very first power ballad in rock. Get into the inspiring story in this episode of the Behind The Song podcast.

My high school boyfriend/fiance' gave this song to me in 1978. Every time I hear it, I morph right back to that time.

Really really nice throw back to the music many of us grew up listening to. I remember being in the Army and stationed in Germany in 1992. I had Styx's great hits CD. A fella upstairs would hear me playing it and one day asked If he could borrow it. It took me 3 months to get it back! Great stuff!!! BTW...sorry for the comment you had to delete on the Van Halen Right Now song. I will watch my mouth from now on. No harm, no foul. Good day.

The most impressionable Rock songs of my youth. I still remember where I was at when first heard. Thanks Janda for putting STYX and Lady on Behind the Song!!! Thanks Christian for your hard work. Still a big fan of the band and of Dennis and his wonderful talent!!!

Oh, I didn't expect to start the day with another long cry for my high school sweetheart and wife. Julie was with me through thick and thin for 43 years. Janda, you knocked this one out of the park.

You made me tear up, Janda, and I'm 60 years old. My goodness. Good job.

They took their 4 album to that rario station to fldtip off.
The station manager came to meet them and told them he wasn't going to play anything from that album but at 8 pm he was going to play ,"Lady".
    DeYoung was dumbfounded.
But at 8 pm that night the station played it.
    The rest is history .

I still Tommy Shaw was right to leave the band. Dennis DeYoung took the band in a strange direction with the whole Mr. Roboto thing… DeYoung could have made that his solo project. You need a Pieces of Eight. Honestly, I like Lorelei better than Lady. Keep up the good work, Janda. Good timing for Valentines Day.
