It was hard for me to decide whether I was an 8 or a 5. I feel I’m an 8, but my friends think I’m more like a 5. I thought I could be a 5 because I’m introverted, but now I think I’m a self-preservation 8 because I am strong-willed and don’t want to need anyone.
5’s can feel more of a need to not need people more than 8’s. 5’s come off like 8’s in that they gather information, and act competently. Competent action can look like confident action, but the 5 feels more of a need to get info to gain confidence, 8’s are more naturally confident and do without so much need to think. They do and they trust themselves when they do. Also if you are an introverted type its is far far more likely you are a 5 than an 8. Even sp 8’s have a consistent need for intensity and tapping into vital anger to make things happen. One that is an ego fixation and that should persist in a majority percentage of casual behavior.
I tend to overthink but then I go with my gut feeling. I also don’t want to need people because needing people makes me feel weak. Information gathering is not a big thing for me; I feel I pickup info around me naturally.
@@hh-wo8ii I am no expert but It seems to me that you are more like the 8 than the 5. You can be introverted and be an 8 because 8’s naturally balance introspection and action. Everyone overthinks these days. 8’s we trust our gut and ourselves that is about it. We are power aware and we assert it into the environment instead of being over looked. I recently realized how I just butt into conversations 🤣 Or what I have to say about the situation is possibly better left unsaid has just occurred to me and I am 44. Go figure! Anger provides 8’s with a strong will and a kind heart that we armor up, because of the insensitivity of others that triggered this defense mechanism in childhood and pervades into a philosophy of life; that keeps playing on repeat in adulthood until we see the pattern which we keep recreating the same scenarios. Betrayal etc. Hopefully this helps. I’m a sx/so 8w7.
I really like your work with the subtypes Dr. Chestnut. I return to your book time and time again (wish you would write one just for 8s) and I mention you often on my podcast. I hope to meet you one day!
Eights are raised in heavy conflict environments. I’m an 8 not an Enneagram expert but it’s going to be an energy difference. And also the core of what drives the social 8 is a very protective nature, a 6 is based in fear and a 2 gives to get. 8’s give without thoughts of receiving because we never knew anything consistent in that kind of reward. Depends on the core motivation and the center of intelligence that is favored where fear is not something 8’s experience with the exception being not in control of themselves and their loved ones protected and not being vulnerable to being abandoned. Or betrayed. Where 6 feels that they play out worst case scenarios it calms their anxiety and 2’s always act from the heart center and they thrive on being rewarded for their almost fake but not completely fake giving nature. It’s like that validates them and 8’s validate themselves on criteria that comes from within. I’m a spiritual sex/soc/self pres stacked 8 and this is just my take from learning from Beatrice and being me.
That tends to be the case! We all have a sequence, where we overuse one of our instincts and repress the other. The one in between tends to be easier to balance throughout our lives.

Love learning from you Beatrice!!! You rock! Love from a Sexual 8! ❤

When you get panicked, do you tend to find yourself a) paralyzed? or b) acting without thinking? or neither of those?
Do blunders count?

Hi, how can you tell apart a social eight from a Sexual six or a two ?
Eights are raised in heavy conflict environments. I’m an 8 not an Enneagram expert but it’s going to be an energy difference. And also the core of what drives the social 8 is a very protective nature, a 6 is based in fear and a 2 gives to get. 8’s give without thoughts of receiving because we never knew anything consistent in that kind of reward. I’m definitely A sex dominant 8?but relate almost as strongly to the social 8 and self pres non existent lol
