I just successfully replaced the chip in my Optoma Pro 360W. These instructions are great! The thermal pad on the new chip was too thick and wouldn't go flush... so I abandoned the pad and am using thermal paste. I bought my chip from AliExpress. It took a few months to arrive but was much cheaper than anything on eBay. I did reference the expensive eBay listings to figure out the exact specs of the chip I needed, so thank you to those people.

Chris Batchelor Hello, I have optoma HD600x projector with chip dmd 1272 6038B, I would like to know if I could mount a 1280 6438B. How long does it take to get the dead pixels back? Thank you

      noooi tgn
hi, took me about an hour and a half to replace the chip. My replacement was a 1272 series chip. I used Arctic Cooling MX-4 paste instead of the supplied thermal pad to hopefully increase heat transfer efficiency. When I removed the old pad, it had come away from one side of the old chip, and that was where most of the dead pixels were. All working ok now, no dead pixels. Good luck!

Thanks for your video. It is now nearly 4 years later and the price of the DMD chip is still around the same. Considering that and the risk of having the same problem within the next time, I think I retire my HD67 and buy a new projector. For the price of the DMD Chips there are projectors available which are as good as this one or even beter and for the old price of the Optoma, there are great choices available. I hate to throw my projector away, I'm fixing everything in my house that's broken as much as possible...

    • @CROW_BH11

Sjaak Schulteis I would rather buy a new projector that is 1080p instead of staying with this one there's so many projectors out there really affordable or even at the same price as a DMD chip

I'm sorry, I see your answer just now. I have been looking this whole week on the different sites for a projector that has full 3D and is 720p or up. It's not easy to find one within my budget. One of my favourites is the Optoma HD142X, a model from 2016. The newer models have this aura around the screen, which seems to be an item from the chip they use and I see that many people find this disturbing. I don't know how I would feel about it, as I haven't seen any projections of the HD143X or HD144X... I'm not looking for a "smart" projector. I have a good Androidbox which I can connect to any projector... much prefer a simpel projector that has a good, sharp image. I also don't need one with a very high ANSI Lumen, because I'm not planning to use it during daylight. It is pure entertainment and where I live it is dark after 7 pm and no outside lights are disturbing me...

Fantastic to see someone do this before I dig in. I didn't see when/where you applied the thermal paste for the chip. @ 9:50 you mention the pad. Was thinking there would be a point where you scrape the old off, apply the new.

If you remove the two screws next to the VGA connector, you can easily lift the motherboard out of the way and won't have such a hard time removing the lens assembly. Also makes it much easier to see what you're doing.

Nice Video..However, before you replace the DMD, take all of the factory applied 'Paste' off and use 'Arctic Silver' Heatsink Paste and you'll never have a chip go out again. The factory paste just doesn't cut it, and ultimately causes the chip to overheat which in turn causes the little mirrors on the chip to freeze up.
