@TwinfiniteTwins never said they were non aggressive. Just not as bad as people think. Like compare them to the bone sharks, and they look like scared little fawns
I love that the Stalker looks so grumpy and in below zero you can pet a baby Snow Stalker and it likes to be pet at firts and then is like "wait i'm should be scary"
I have had a few cameras stolen by stalkers. always fun getting them back. I also learned a cheat to farm teeth. Grav trap + metal salvage + stalker = tooth fest
I love these toothy boys. I like putting my scanner room in a part of the kelp forest, so I can watch through the cameras as they play with them like balls. It's adorable
In code, Stalkers have designated ’nests’ which they bring their metal goodies to. If nests are too close, they’ll start stealing from eachother and drop alot of teeth in the process. This looks hilarious and is also quite useful for speedrunners who want to get lots of teeth without having to manually feed them.
The Stalkers gave me my fondest memory of Subnautica 1. That being the revenge of launching them into orbit with a repulsion cannon for the quarantine platform to deal with.
Helpful hint: either to play it safe, or to get a free tooth, carry metal salvage with you in their territory. Or simply play peekaboo around an existing metal salvage already in the sea floor. Drop yours or just swim around said salvage already in the water and the stalker will seemingly forget you exist and just nom on the metal instead
I consider the stalkers like the wolves of 4546b, so I find them quite adorable, even if they occasionally take a bite outta me. You need them for their teeth so a bit of symbiosis is in order. Though it is annoying when they steal my camera pods that's just a consequence I am willing to shoulder.
The reaper also has no bioluminescents Tip, hit the stalker with any knife once, and they will run Edit: the lava lizard has bioluminescents, its back has dimmly glowing lava
these creature videos of yours always makes me wish you would do a video on the Alien Containment Unit, about what creatures can be kept in one, where you can find their eggs, gameplay applications of different creatures, etcetera.
A crazy theory that got in my head while I was drugged lol, if the stalker is the oldest species on the planet, is it perhaps a descendant of the giant fossil in lost river?
Love your videos keep up the good work :D oh and btw from all the videos on the life forms of subautica, I was thought a lot of stuf that I did not know!
3:05 tip: if you don’t have fish or scrap although they do have good spin speed they have high reaction time and after swimming for a second in a straight line you can dart to the side and let them swim in the wrong direction. This builds up a bit of distance to support an escape. 4:06 second tip: stalkers are extremely intelligent but don’t have large memories so they will forget you which is why they can’t be permanently tamed, but before they forget they might bring you scrap as thanks because they see your tools are made of shiny metal just like the scrap metal they play with. They do have imprinting which is why they remember you if raised in containment.
1:48 It's not about keeping the teeth sharp, the bite force alone is enough to easily kill anything they'd actually hunt. It's done for the same reason as other animals with super fast-growing teeth, to whittle them down. There are a number of animals who, if they don't constantly grind their teeth down, will eventually die due to their teeth growing too long, resulting in them looping backwards in on the animal and piercing the skull. Rats and beavers are a good example of this.
"Captains log day....f### it. My colony is dead... we got attacked by something. No idea what it looked like but it left some weird residue. it's...a weird blue color. I don't have time for this, captain out."
Honestly they’re not that aggressive. As long as there are other fish swimming around, and of course metal salvage to play with, they’re usually quite occupied. Bone sharks on the other hand… you are their top priority and they will relentlessly attack you and your vehicles
I love the stalkers. Not particularly dangerous and like to play with metal objects! I usually raise a number of them and release them around my base to act as almost guard dogs (since the ones you hatch yourself are less likely to attack you) and bring them scrap to play with. They steal my scanner room drones often, but they're too cute to stay mad at.
A theory on the metal gathering. Since each Stalker seems to have a designated area that they will take salvage to I believe that this is meant to be some kind of nesting/mating behaviour where they are using the pile of scrap as a place to protect the eggs or as an attraction mechanism, the method being the biggest scrap is the shiniest and therefore indictive of a stronger swimmer
I've been wondering something. Did you draw all the art yourself? I actually love the artstyle and think all the things are very well drawn. Props to the artist! That art adds such unique flavour to your videos I love it
Ive loved subnautica since it released, however i havent played it due to fear of deep bottomless water, but a few days ago i ordered a copy of it and im going to play it finally after all these years 😂
The first time I encountered a stalker I was afraid of them and did not like them. Once I figured out they can be tamed with peepers I realized they were actually fren shaped.
I have an idea for a challange. Beat subnautica without the bladderfish If you want to take it a step further. Then beat the game with only using the water from chests. (So no creating water urself)
I didn’t know they were aggressive for almost all of the game because everytime I would swim through a kelp forest they just didn’t attack me for some reason
When I was playing through Subnautica for the first time, I ended up giving each creature a name. I didn't do it purposefully, it just sorta happened. With the Stalker, I gave the name "buddy." I did not find myself being bitten often by them, though they did chase me quite a bit. I find them kinda cute and didn't feel scared encountering one for the first time, and I found it fun when they chased me seeing it as more of just a bit of play.
Once wiped out a entire population of stalkers in a kelp forest brought them back by grabbing any eggs I found and I do my best not to hurt them when traversing through with a seamoth, prawnsuit and cyclops.
They're scary at the START of the game when you're scared of everything, after a while, they're not intimidating at all, and they telegraph their attacks. Very easy to avoid and manipulate. Plus when you get a knife, you are the superior being of the two. Plus, they are mostly slow moving.
I was surprised that you didn't mention how when you temporarily "tame" stalkers, they will retrieve and drop metal scrap near you as a "gift" of sorts. I do wish that there was a way to permanently tame them to use them as an auto-harvesting system for scrap.
2:22 I have a small story about this one. I once had a stalker steal one of my cameras, and it just *refused to drop it.* I followed it a while, waiting for it to drop it, and it didn’t. Eventually, I tried attacking it with my knife. Still, it didn’t drop it. Eventually I killed the stalker, and *still,* even after death, It refused to let go. I then gave up, and a while later when I came back after doing something, the stalker had released the camera *after clipping through the sea floor with it.*
i at this point haven't watched the entire video so he might also say something about it but i just noticed the very front of the beak with the top and the bottom sticking out bits looks like the things the reaper has(maybe suggesting it is in the same evolutionary tree?)
One time due to a glitch with the alien containment I had a stalker swimming about in my base. Apparently if you have an alien containment it’s possible for creatures from outside the base to glitch their way into the base where they can eat your fish in the alien containment. Which was annoying, I had to build a special Alien Containment tower up out of the water just so the stalker wouldn’t be able to eat my pets. Although it did lead to a funny interaction Me: (sees stalker) Why is there a Stalker in my bedroom? Mom: What?! Me: Look here (shows game), this thing is called a stalker and it’s swimming around in my bedroom.
Honestly i always tought that Stalkers looked adorable, they are derpy when they are no trying to remove your face lol
They're kinda like wolves, dangerous but sometimes cute?
I agree. And they’re really not as aggressive as stated

The stalkers usually gather the metal scraps into piles to certain places
In code, Stalkers have designated ’nests’ which they bring their metal goodies to. If nests are too close, they’ll start stealing from eachother and drop alot of teeth in the process.
